I recently moved from northern New Jersey to lower, slower Delaware. I have searching for a fitness center offering the same level of service I had become accustomed to at Fitness 19 in River Vale. Alas, no luck so far. Oh, there is no shortage of gyms, but they lack the professionalism I depend on for my fitness. Specifically, Fitness 19 is fairly priced and offers superior customer service. The gym is very clean and its variety of machines always are up and running. The staff is experienced and truly helpful. And most importantly the owners are honest. The one time I had a billing question, the matter was handled quickly and to my satisfaction. I think it comes from being locally owned and not being part of some massive corporation. I wish they'd open a branch in Delaware. read more

Been fighting with them for months to cancel my membership, tried to cancel in April and the people at the front desk gave me the incorrect information to cancel. Tried to cancel again August 4 by written email to abc. They confirmed the cancellation and said I just had to pay the $24 and change bill and then it would be done but I would have access until September 4th. I was unable to pay online so I went in person to pay. The manager charged me around $50. I called multiple times trying to get a call back from the manager to fix the issue as abc said they incorrectly charged me. Finally the front desk called me and said I should be receiving a refund. My son signed up for 1 year in june 2023. Told the owner that he was going to leave for college. July comes and he cancels, but because of the 30 day notice, they charge us a renewal fee $53 and another month fee of $15. So his membership is good till September. I tried calling the company that does there billing and they said it falls in with the 30 day notice that we must provide them to cancel. So we are responsible for the payment. The website states that the club hours are 7:00AM opening on Saturdays which is the reason I joined. This would give me an hour to work out before my other commitments on the weekend. However, the last 3 Saturdays I've showed up and left at 7:15 because the gym was not open. This is absolutely unacceptable, please contact me to discuss. I've tried emailing 188rivervale@fitness19.com and it doesn't go through, I've called the phone number and have only gotten a message that they will be closed on September 2nd. Today is September 28th. I joined because the price was right and the hours worked for me on the weekends, but they don't appear to honor the opening times. read more

So even with all the negative reviews and posts about billing issues, I stopped to check this place out because I really just need a place with treadmills for when it's too cold to run outside. Not bad upon walking in. I inquired about pricing and the associate atthe desk rattled off various prices depending on if you pay by credit card for checking account ( kinda weird). None of the pricing matched the website prices I had just looked at in the parking lot so I asked why it was more expensive than the posted prices online. I was told they run different specials but will honor any online prices with proof of price and was asked where I saw the price. It was their website. THEIR WEBSITE. Great local gym my mom loves. She uses the trainers here and really enjoys and benefits from it. I started coming with her as a guest when I was visiting. I got my own membership on a promo, which rotate and can be pretty good. Has all the basic equipment, well maintained, and never smelly. Gym has no issue with me being trans, nor should they, but it's still important to highlight safe community spaces as much as it is the hostile ones. read more

Very shady billing practices! Read the fine print! They charge arbitrary fees, will overcharge you and refuse to explain or refund! If you use EFT it becomes a hassle with the bank to fight them!! Even after the bank denied them based on paperwork we both submitted, they are sending fake statements to my house with invoices that I've never seen. Pros... the place usually isn't too busy and the monthly fees are low. Cons... the machines are often broken or in need of maintenance, there's a funny smell, the staff are not very friendly or helpful, the classes are boring and have little range, and when you have any issues the answer is "sorry, there's nothing we can do". Bottom line? It's cheap for a reason. If you just need a place with treadmills for rainy days, it's perfect. If you're actually looking for instruction or modern facilities, there are way better options in the area. read more

I purchased a lifetime membership after having a family member open an account. When that member attempted to cancel their account i was told my lifetime membership would be cancelled as well and the 300 dollars I paid was non refundable. I asked many questions to the owner when this was opened and he did not tell me that both accounts had to remain because I would not have done it in the first place. read more

Buyer beware of shady cancellation policies. They ask you to pre-pay your last month up front when you sign up. Fine no problem. My wife got pregnant so I went in to personally cancel for her in December. Then we got billed again in January. I called to inquire why they billed my wife again in January after we cancelled and they claimed that there was a 30 day cancellation policy to cancel. That I already knew about it...BUT when I told them that my last month up front should have been applied to that final invoice, the snarky female manager told me that she techincally had access until March. So I cancel in December, why do I want access until March? Thats a 60 day cancellation policy now...not 30. I told her what she was doing was illegal and she said "I'm not doing anything. I'm just an employee. Thats what Fitness 19 tells me to do!". And she hung up on me. You get what you pay for at this dirt cheap gym...I was just more calling out of curiosity to see how they would handle my claim that they had no right to really bill us one more time. I own health clubs for a living, so I'm very familiar with how this all works (my wife went here because its close to where we live...if you were wondering why she doesn't use my clubs). I was very careful the way I led the conversation as to see her resopnse. What they are doing is illegal in the state of NJ. There are several pending lawsuits at some major health club chains regarding this very policy. If you are cool with that going in...enjoy! read more

I've always known about this gym but never looked further into it. I've joined regular gyms, women's gyms, and most recently orange theory fitness. After injuring myself I needed to find a gym that I could do things around my injury. I found that fitness 19 was perfect for that. After being joined here for almost 5 months I've found a routine that works for me. The staff is always friendly and nice and I feel very comfortable there. They offer personal training sessions. They offer classes in the back in a room. I've very happy there and their price for membership is more than fair. They are always running promotions. If you are looking for a place with some classes, maybe some PT, and to use cardio machines, weight lifting machines and etc this place is a great town gym that I will continue coming to. read more

Worked out here with my girlfriend and she was asked to leave, after over an hour of cardio, because she was wearing a workout-appropriate sports bra. And not in a nice, customer friendly way; it was incredibly rude and aggressive. "Company policy" was the reason the girl gave us. If it's company policy, that's fine, I can understand that, but maybe it should be posted or communicated in some way, anywhere, before you pay to use a gym. Maybe the same girl who took our money at the desk should have given us a heads up she would be storming over later to kick us out. There is also a right way to address a situation like that, and a wrong way- and I cannot stress enough how terribly this was handled. Also, activewear is pretty standard gym attire. Same vibe as the other reviews- place is a knockoff and doesn't conduct themselves professionally. I was embarrassed for this employee and for this establishment. I've used this gym plenty of times over the years but this goes beyond one employee giving your company a bad name. It was a total and complete joke. Read the cancellation terms because it is nearly impossible to cancel your membership! I moved out of state, tried to cancel by phone, was told that I had to cancel in-person. I escalated to a manager that referred me to another website (not Fitness 19) to cancel my membership online. This website did not offer me an option to cancel because my account was frozen. To unfreeze my account, I had to make a payment. Because my bill was incorrect, I refused to do this. So I cancelled my credit card but kept getting calls from a collection agency. I finally took the call, escalated to a manager, and got my account cancelled by a third party. I have no idea whether or not this will affect my credit score, nor do I care at this point. It should not require an act of congress to cancel a gym membership for God's sake! Horrible service, and billing is a major scam! Take your business elsewhere! There us no professional supervision at 3:00 when the teens come in to work out. Kids are well behaved but are missusing equipment in a way that is detrimental to their well being. Many times the weight the kids are lifting is too heavy and they are being egged on by others to lift more. Kids are injuring muscles and joints. It's a free for all. read more

I want to quit the gym!! Cancelled my family membership in August. They continued billing us. Went back again December and cancelled AGAIN. Also retrieved a copy of my original cancellation which they had on file. Still, they continue to bill us. Disputed the charges with the credit card company. Fitness 19 re-billed us for the disputed charges and continue to bill us ... 6 months after cancelling our membership ... TWICE!!! I finally asked the credit card company to block them. Reading the other reviews, it looks like this is standard practice at this place. I have been coming here for years and it has everything I need for a great workout at an affordable price.They just completed renovations and added a spacious room with full mirrors to be used as a space for classes. They have medicine balls, rollers, lighter weights, to be used in that room when no classes are going on. Fitness 19 has everything I need for a good workout. Assortment of machines, benches, and dumbbells. While the main weight room can seem small at times, it's feels very compact and efficient. read more

No showers and the stretch space is tight but you can manage. Although I haven't gotten sessions, the trainers appear to know they are doing. Not high end but for the price it's a pretty good deal. It's very cheap to work out here, which is what brought me in. It's a small gym with the basic machines and weights. No classes or showers, but you know that signing up. You get what you pay for, and I'm ok with it. I do wish there was a little more room to do stretches. I also put down that it's good for kids. Not that there is a babysitting service like some gyms have, but I do notice a lot of high school aged kids are there. (Maybe middle school aged? I can't tell how old kids are these days). read more

I left the gym because the patrons, especially the men, do not wipe down the machines. It is gross as coli lives on workout machines and free weights. They really need to use their common sense. It is very disgusting when sweat is everywhere, bodily fluids, and I really don't want to lay in it or touch it. I have also seen the staff not clean up after themselves. The gym is fine but I was losing my mind listening to country music for over two hours. C'mon I get it, not everyone dislikes country music, but how can you think everyone likes it for two hours??? Who is picking the soundtrack? The employees? Do that in your car, not for the whole gym! Switch it up. To start, they tried to add extra fees and charges to my base student membership which was extremely cheap and popped up a red flag. Furthermore, the bathroom is disgusting and not well run and there is not even a locker room to change in at this gym. Most staff are pleasant but some will stare at you like there is an issue. Make sure to not use the designated lifting machines because you will be considered slamming weights when the plates are tapping each other even though no one complains about the light sound. Why have heavy lifting machines and setups if you can't use them without being harassed. The workers will make rude remarks that are absolutely unbelievable and unprofessional. Do not recommend and one more rude instance and the entirety of a high school will much rather go to the nearby NYSC gym which offers a sauna and proper lockerroom for only a fraction more. read more

Bad gym bad help. I cancelled my membership during the school year when I am at college and found out they billed me for all those months! I talked to the manager WHO I CANCELLED WITH and he said I never cancelled it he wouldn't return the balance or turn it into credit for additional months. My favorite gym I have ever been a member of!Super reasonable prices, and everyone I have encountered that works there is super friendly and extremely helpful! It is small enough where you can get to know the employees more personally, but big enough where you are not fighting for machines.
