I joined as a LT member earlier this year at one of the Long Island locations, have visited a couple of them and my experience has always been the same: welcoming staff, friendly service, clean locker rooms and (whether its an abs, arms or leg day) more than enough machines to suit my needs. Check-in Review: Upon arrival at the Manhattan Sky location, I was greeted by a fast talking young man at the service desk telling me they're a "Diamond Club" facility which he said none of the Long Island locations were (although I checked and they have Diamond Club signs at their own front desks). Anyway, he went on to tell me the next time I wanted to work out there I'd have to pay a $40 additional fee. Basically, buy a day pass like a non-member when I already pay a monthly fee or I needed to "upgrade" my existing membership for access. It was clearly my first time there and although there were three people behind the desk, no one offered to give me a quick tour of the facility. Odd approach considering their layout is on multiple floors like a dept store; also knowing I'm currently a member and could potentially upgrade my membership to work out there. Facility Review: Once I went downstairs, I had to walk around down several hallways to figure out where everything was: the locker rooms, indoor pool, hot tubs and steam room. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 5pm yet there was no staff to be seen in that area to help direct me. This lower level had a very dungeon-y feel to it. The showers were relatively clean, however, one section of the locker room smelled like sweaty socks. Hey its a men's locker room, I thought to myself, but then again that's something I've never encountered at any of the other facilities. The swimming pool was surprisingly lukewarm which was nice considering how cold it was outside that day. I'm an intermediate swimmer so I wasn't completely bothered by a Lifeguard being present only 30% of the time while I was in the pool during my 40min swim. Definitely something to keep in mind though. When I reached the weight room area on the upper level, it seemed small. There was also a meathead powerlifting when I arrived that stared in my direction like, "I know you're not going to try to invade my space". Very stand-offish and off putting. Have you ever been to a friend of a friend's house and not felt completely welcome? That's how I felt visiting this facility. I also agree with another reviewer on here regarding the elevator situation, kinda odd sharing an elevator with tenants who live in apts on the other floors. Who's monitoring whether or not non-members/tenants are wandering their way into the gym? Strange logistical configuration. Conclusion: For a facility that prides themselves on exclusivity and charges extremely expensive fees, they really lack in the customer service dept. This gym is a fraction the size of their Long Island facilities and seems to be severely understaffed. I have everything I need at the other locations and feel no need to return here or upgrade my membership. Surprised! On the lockers section I would say this gym has one of the best lockers/policies I've seen so far from any GYM. Easily accessible, not being crowded is a 5 stars on my book. Bathrooms in general are also awesome, it almost feels like a personal 5 star hotel section. The staff is friendly and up to speed keeping up everything clean and neat. I haven't attended a class yet, but the variety offered on their schedule is quite nice and alike to other LT centre. The Pool(s)/Sauna(s) are awesome. Clean and not crowded, can't wait for the summer to try out the outdoor ones. Now the bad, horrific and obvious... This is a high-end GYM, and for that matter, not having machines for all sorts of exercises is a deal-breaker for a lot of people! For instance, if you are like me and allocate a day for a targeted area of the body, on Abs day you will only find ONE machine you can use throughout the whole GYM, I mean, what GYM doesn't have a simple ABS BENCH you can use? For legs there's only one single Legs machine to throw a few 45 discs on legs day. Forget about calves, not a single machine for that, just wing it and improvise (WHY... why)! The number of machines are VERY limited for a $200 single membership. Luckily, I simply upgraded my membership from a previous LT so I got the awesome $10 discount on the price! :@ LT management should rethink on adding more machines types into this GYM DRASTICALLY. Just copy the layouts from other LT centers and ADD those extra options to your ACTIVE MEMBERS ASAP! read more

I like the fitness center. I tend to get there in the early mornings. The bathrooms are not clean at that time. I had pictures but I had to get a new phone - lost them. Also, why does every other Lifetime open from 4 am to midnight and cost less but Sky costs more and has less available hours to its members? I notice that Lifetime has other openings coming to the NYC area, they will open from 5am - 11pm and they are charging $250 a month WTF!!! Less hours than the other Lifetime fitness clubs in the NY area (LI & Westchester) and wayyy more money - that's CRAZY! They should have the same hours as the other clubs in the area; why is it any different in the city that NEVER SLEEPS??? They should open at 4am and close at midnight like the other facilities especially since they are charging so much more than the other facilities - I suppose because it's Manhattan but that is ridiculous!! read more

As a New Yorker I have seen my fair share of exorbitantly priced things and like to think it takes a lot to shock me. On a particularly gorgeous day I decided to check in on the out door pool, as I haven't ever used it since this location is close to my office and not my apt so I don't frequent a lot on the weekends. They wanted me, a member of this gym for years, to pay ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS to sit by the dumb pool. Shock is not even the right word. I was a founding member at this location and after reading some of the negative feedback, I wanted to come back and leave some positive remarks. 1) The staff: I can't speak for how it's been recently, but when I went, everyone was incredibly nice and helpful. Mari was a fantastic account manager and the trainers were great as well. 2) The facilities: Clean, neat, and well kept. 3) Amenities: So many of them! Indoor pool, co-ed sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi, plenty of workout equipment, a lounge area, and a little healthy cafe with decently priced foo. 4) Cancellation: Not difficult at all. Not sure why everyone on here complains about it. I literally walked in, said I wanted to cancel, filled out the form, and waited out the 30 days. 5) Price: Expensive, but so, so worth it. 5) Location: My ONLY beef with this gym. It's located so far from any major transportation that it's a pain to get to. Originally I think they had planned for a shuttle but it never happened, so I ended up cancelling because I was traveling almost 3 hours anytime I went to the gym from home. 30-45 minutes from work in midtown. Pros: full size basketball court..rare to find on the west side..Great gym lots of room even during peak hours (compared to other NYC gyms) tons of squat racks. Cons: Definetly not worth anywhere near $200.. the locker room is max 100 SF literally a tenth the size of the YMCA where I worked out previously. There's nowhere to hang your dress shirts / jackets so if you come straight from work like I do or are heading to the gym before work you end up with a wrinkled shirt.. ridiculous.. for some reason they can't even afford to have separate shampoo and body wash ? ORIGINAL: Lifetime is my favorite gym EVER. Ive been dying to reactivate my membership. I'm currently at Equinox Sport and it was the best gym in NYC until Lifetime. The price for what you get is 30+% cheaper at Lifetime than Equinox. EDIT: Have to update my review after visiting Life Time's Sky location and is only based on that location and not Lifetime in general. I have been a fan of Lifetime for the last 10 years and kept my membership on hold status for 6 years hoping Lifetime would come to NYC. Most of the Lifetime gyms are the most amazing gyms that I never want to leave. However, the Sky location doesn't live up to high bar that Lifetime has set for itself. I can't believe I am saying this but Equinox Sport by the Lincoln center is superior and their Cafe is still under construction. The locker rooms at Sky are tiny. I could barely fit one of my calf muscles in it. Secondly, there is barely any space to workout compared to other Lifetime and Equinox gyms. Also, as mentioned by others, there is a lack of free weights and other workout equipment in general. Other Lifetime gyms have tons of equipment. Those gyms are so sprawling and have so much equipment that it would amaze me every time I went. The typical Lifetime also has multiple TV sitting areas in the locker rooms. It feels weird going through someone's apartment elevator to go from the basketball court and locker room to the weight room. I know the staff would probably say its nothing to worry about but it feels like there was a lack of design and planning before hand. When you want premium dollar I think that there should be none of these dings. I think it would have worked better if they just had an elevator that goes straight up to Lifetime gym and they put all the floors back to back rather than split them up the way they did. Equinox would be jealous and seething if Lifetime was able to build a real Lifetime gym in Manhattan. Build one in the up and coming area of Harlem. Sky gym as it stands right now is like your garden variety apartment gym in a wannabe luxury building. If the big wigs at Lifetime did their research they would know that everyone in NYC hates going to 42nd street. They also hate having to walk 3 long blocks from the train to go all the way to 11th avenue. To top it all off they want to charge Equinox prices when they don't really match up in terms of (location, number of locations, size, amenities). I would've expected Lifetime to do way better. Maybe if they had purchased and upgraded the Chelsea Piers then they could've built the first Lifetime gym at the caliber fans like me would expect from Lifetime. What I will say is their sauna/steam rooms and jacuzzi area was pretty amazing. The roof top also looks nice. Also, the staff kept trying to convince me that their gym is "exclusive". I'm like I pay just as much at Equinox which offers laundry service, a personal locker, convenient location and its all gym and not split between apartment and gym. Something that should be noted is that the gym isn't open 24 hours like the Lifetime gyms I am used to patronizing. When I get off work late I hate to have to rush through my workout to finish before 11pm. I feel like Sky turned out to be a botched rollout of Lifetime in Manhattan. I'll still maintain my hold status until I leave Manhattan or the folks at Lifetime build a real gym in Manhattan that is worthy of the Lifetime branding on it. read more

Gorgeous gym. Everything top of line. I come all the time and it pains me to leave this review. However, the service is really bad. The attendants haven't been trained in basic customer service, often don't know what they are doing, or the answers to basic questions. One of them told me we get a guest pass every month and after I bought a $1400 membership to the outdoor pool including weekends, did not explain to me the passes don't include access to the pool. Ruined a weekend morning for me. Really bad vibes. Moreover, weirdly rigid customer service. Why does anyone go into service or service management if they can't make on the spot judgment calls to improve brand? It makes me think there's something wrong with the training. Unethical practices: they purposely make it hard to cancel your membership. I moved out of the building where the gym is located and called to cancel my membership. They would only let me cancel in person or by sending a certified letter per "policy". They purposely don't allow cancellations via email or phone. I was traveling and had to go back to cancel in person. Waste of my time. [UPDATE as their response is deceiving] Cancellation requires 30 day notice so effectively implies paying an extra month, not as "friendly" as depicted below. They also refused to let me cancel via phone or email while I was traveling. They require in person or certified letter which makes it hard to cancel. read more

Only been going to the gym for a month, so 4 stars because I haven't really experienced all the features/services of the gym, but so far it's great. Nice staff, lots of equipment whether you're lifting weights, doing cardio, or floor exercises, well-stocked locker rooms, super clean, and great hours for those who get up super early or like to workout late. The price may be a bit high for a gym, but you really get a lot for your money with all the services they offer. I even did some free personal training with one of their trainers, Jimmy T., and had an awesome experience - super knowledgeable, friendly, and effective. I enjoyed my experience overall with Life Time Fitness. And you can actually work out of the 42nd St. location, especially if you're an entrepreneur. The manager Ioanna was a pleasure to speak with & provided the best service possible. If you need to sign up for membership services Maria T. is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, professional & goes above & beyond! The food in the cafe is pretty phenomenal for the price & Anthony Arce will go out of his way to provide you with the best customer service possible! Now, I went during the winter & walking all the way down 42nd St is not pleasant in the cold, so, the location isn't necessarily a great one for me. But, I imagine the spring & summer experience with an outdoor pool will be much more inviting to some people. Also, had a great pool training class (No Joke!!!), The pool service was also impressive & a very good cycling class. Great basketball courts too. In closing, it depends on your needs whether this club for you or not. I have to focus more on straight training at this point & its location is a challenge. Warning all from a 2 year member. This place will make you want to pull your hair out. Everything about it screams pretentious. The rules and regulations are obnoxious and reflect the entitled personality that runs this place. Someone obviously is calling the shots here that is not qualified. This place is one hundred percent a rip off and represents everything that is wrong with the world. I am ashamed to have called myself a member for so long. Let's start the review with the staff. I decided one day to try out a personal trainer. At first she was great. After a couple of sessions life happened and I got bogged down with work. I had paid her the full amount. After a couple a months when work slowed down I decided to reach back out. She was nowhere to be found. I was never refunded my money nor had anyone reach out to me. Customer service dropped the ball. After about 6 months I received a phone call about how sorry they were that she left. I felt robbed and still do. Trying to talk to any staff member is incredibly difficult. It will frustrate you and you won't even know why. Become a member at your own risk. Plenty of other luxury gyms with nicer staff, better and bigger equipment and space. Also, the bald middle eastern "manager" is hands down the most obnoxious person you will ever deal with. You are a manager at a gym. Please remember this. Secondly, if you are looking to join for the basketball gym and this excites you because of all the NBA glamor surrounding it. DONT. This next year they will make the pick up games very hard to watch. The experience for everyone will be short of stellar. When training sessions are going on, there is a very off putting vibe. Lets talk about the quality of pick up games. Over the two years I saw and experienced some ridiculous things. Most notable, a group of Caucasian guys in their 20's looking to fight over the court. The 3 doornobs insisted all of them play. One of their buddies didn't make it into the game after shooting for teams. They all decided to ruin the game and start their own 2 on 1 game on the other side of the court. When asked to move aside so everyone could play a game of 5 on 5 full Court, they started puffing their chest and threatening to call the owner's son who they apparently were friends with. They threatened and shouted for far too long acting like pathetic children. You will encounter some of the most entitled people during your time as a member here. Please do yourself a favor and save the money and time. There are plenty of quality gyms around the neighborhood. Good luck canceling your membership here. They will make your life the most difficult and give you the worst excuses. Money hungry is what this place is, with zero morals or ethics when it comes to business. I'm out of the country, they explained that the only way to cancel is by coming in or sending a hand written letter (what are we in the stone age still!!!). Now I'm searching for a post office in a foreign country with my fingers crossed that the letter will get there. Oh, and once they receive the letter.... Great beautiful new building nice clean locker rooms but you have to pay separate for a pool membership outside which is aggravating. When I join a club I want it straight forward pay a flat fee for everything. The outside pool isn't amazing it's nice but they treat it like a country club membership. I think it's about $650.00 -700 for thee month separate membership maybe more. The staff are all amazing, hard working polite wonderful people. I'd say it's in the top 5 gyms in NYC. The gym membership includes the indoor pool spa cold tub and hot tub basketball gym and yoga rooms. The actual gym with equipment was fine for me but my guy friends feel it's not big enough, I guess they need more weight lifting ‍ equipment. In all I'm digging this gym! read more

Theft going on at this gym! An entire backpack was stolen from the locker room on January 31st. Obviously not going to return to a gym where belongings are stolen so after requesting to cancel membership, Lifetime still decides to charge an entire month's membership fee per their procedures, essentially robbing me twice. You would think that under the circumstances and after having been violated in this way that they would allow you to cancel without continuing to charge you- especially since it happened on the last day of the month- but there was no attempt to ameliorate the situation. All I asked for was to not be charged for an additional month of membership to a gym who's facilities I would no longer be using. I was told I would get a call back regarding the theft and the extra charge, and I received no call back after a week, and no help from the GM, Ioanna. Very cheap. Perhaps it is an employee that is stealing members belongings and they are trying to cover it up? Either way, Life Time Athletic at Sky needs to reevaluate how they treat their paying customers, especially for a gym that claims to cater to high-end members. There are plenty of more high-end fitness centers who value their customer's security to choose from in the city, where you will not be risking your belongings each time you use the gym. Equinox on West 50th and Columbus Circle are just a few block away, and definitely better options. Edit: Once again unhelpful, I understand Lifetime is not responsible for stolen items but that is not the issue. I already did report the incident and the Member Service team did nothing. The issue is that Lifetime decided it was appropriate to continue to charge a fee after the incident. read more

I was told that I can terminate my membership 30 days in advance in person or by mail. I sent an email to cancel my mebership on March 29 and specifically asked if any additional information is required from me in order to effect the termination. I have not received any response saying email is not allowed until the membership fee was charged to my credit card on June 1. I sent another email to ask for explanation and again very slow or no response! Pls beware of their tricks to charge additional membership fees! And their quality of customer service is really disappointing! Short: Don't pay all that just for the spa. It's pricey. Long: I've been a member for more than two years. The gym has excellent equipment and the staff is top notch. They are always helpful and friendly. Aside from the expected weekend crunch times, the facilities are airy and although it can get crowded, it rarely gets too jammed to work out. (I don't take classes, so I can't comment on them.) I'm refraining from giving it a higher review because the water club is very disappointing, and it was meant to be the draw to me. The lap pool's temperature is rarely perfect, and the water is murky -- always. And I mean always. And not a week goes by when at least one element of the water club is not under repair. In fact, I'm surprised when the hot tub actually works! The steam room has a dank smell and it's looking worse for wear, unfortunately. Frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of the excuses for why it's always broken, and if the problems persist I will definitely be cancelling my membership. This is a very expensive gym, and for a hundred dollars less I could get almost the equivalent gym at many other locations that are much more convenient to me. The water club should be the tipping point, and when it's down as often as it is, I question the value of the $200/month price point at Lifetime. read more

WATCH OUT! Cancellation is the hardest thing to do. They ask for a 30 day notice . So I expect to pay an extra month, which is 200. And I am kind of all right with that. On the app, it suggest, if you want to cancel, contact them. So I fill out the contact form stating that I want to cancel. I didn't get any phone call for the cancellation, nonono, I only get a short email suggesting that I should suspend instead of cancel. And they called me an million times when I sign up. I fill out the form at the beginning of February they responded that why don't you suspend and hold you membership? As I was expecting a call from them, and I don't really check my spare email address often, I don't get this msg. I contact them again yesterday feb 27. they say that sure, if you want to cancel, you have to come in person, and there is a 30 day notice before the actual cancel. I had the chance to check out this amazing club as a guest of one of my friends over the weekend! Wow what a beautiful space and I can only imagine how incredible it is during the hotter months when the outdoor pool is open. Saturday morning I took a really cool class called Strike and the instructor was awesome and the studio was gorgeous! I hope to come back and try some other classes. After class I was starving and had a delicious shake in the cafe to get some calories back in. Everyone I met on the floor (the fitness manager and a cafe girl) was super friendly and positive. I wish the location was a little more central, but I definitely would consider joining for the classes and the pool. read more

Watch out for this place! They want you to sign contracts that makes it difficult to end your membership. It costs a min of $180 to quit, and if you have any unused training sessions, they keep the money. I think it is a violation of consumer protection laws. Also, this location often has air conditioning problems, and they block off portions of the premises for special events. read more

I thought this was the perfect health club, although a bit out of the way location. Friendly staff, facility that has it all. Unfortunately, there spa/hot tub is constantly malfunctioning. Or just when I'm lucky enough to be there. When you ask to see someone, they give the same polite answer.. We called to have it repaired.. You would think an organization as highly qualified as Life Time would be well equipped to maintain their key equipment.. There are a lot of people complaining and comparing this gym to Equinox and other LT locations. I find this gym to be great. I haven't been to any other LifeTime locations, so I can't compare. But I can compare it to the overall levels of the gyms in the city. Class selection is nice, instructors are motivating and encouraging. Class sizes are adequate (unlike Equinox, where you get kicked in the teeth by your neighbor because it's overpacked....probably to fire law violations levels) While the general workout area is not the biggest, the gym rarely gets packed to the point where you can't find a spot. The sauna area is amazing. Those complaining that it's co-ed... well seems like a personal issue to me. Do you go to a separate women's only beach? The Café has a decent selection of foods that taste quite good. Anyways, if you are looking for a gym that has great classes and isn't crowded, this is the one for you. read more

I'm only giving three stars for the great classes and instructors even though they don't offer a lot of classes. If you go to crunch or equinox they have classes all day long and lifetime does not. Second, I agree with another reviewer on here about the gym not being clean- always so dusty and never wipies available- hello MRSA! And they are always canceling classes and there's no consistency with the class schedule. Third, the gym set up is just odd. The weight area is so small and it's just a weird layout. Fourth, the pool.. sigh where do I begin..they're trying to be the soho grand but the location is in a residential building, and they have all these rules and extra fees! It's a pool not the Rivera so gimme a break. Oh and you can't bring kids! So if you have children you are biased against. This place is overpriced and overhyped. I have come to the conclusion that there are no 5 star gyms in manhattan, however, relative to the competition life time is IMO the best. The staff is friendly, the facilities clean and compared to other places the equipment is decently maintained. I still prefer the gym in my building for cardio and weight training machines. The main draw for me and reason I trek all the way to the west side is this life time has the best spin instructors. I highly recommend. read more

I have been a member at Lifetime since it opened a few years ago and I am so disappointed in what this place has become. I had my breaking point this weekend when I went to the gym just had another bad experience. I jump on the treadmill and the TVs dont work. The TVs on the treadmills havent worked since before Christmas and it's January 12 today. and when you ask someone from the Staff about it, they scoff and tell you that they should be working. I go downstairs to enjoy the sauna/steamroom/whirlpool spa and none of the facilities were working correctly and if they were, the temperatures were 10 degrees below what they should be. I tell the staff and there's 4 lifeguards in red shorts running around and no one knows how or why the temperatures are completely off or how to fix them. What's the point of having a spa if the sauna/whirlpool isnt actually hot? This is a daily thing. It's the little things that this gym has no clue how to get right. Like having clean showers when you pay $200 per month for a membership. The showers should always be clean. The customer service is the absolute worst and the only person with Leadership skills or knows how to engage the membership is Johnny, but he cant do it all. When it originally opened, they had top notch instructors and people that actually smiled when you walked into the club. Now they have average instructors and no one even goes to the classes anymore, which is a shame because they have beautiful studios. and the Staff is just nasty there. The complete opposite of everywhere else in the country (I go to the Ardmore, PA one and the ones in Minnesota or outside Boston when I am there for business). and Dont give me the "This is New York City" they arent nice. I've lived here for 12 years and people can acknowledge you here. The problem is that there is a pervasive issue with most of the staff and they need to gut the whole thing. For $200 per month, you should have some of the best instructors in the city, especially when you are part of a big corporate parent with resources behind them. Other Lifetimes around the country are well run, but this particular one is complete garbage. They have had 4 group fitness managers there in 2 years, and no one has been competent or engaged with members since the first one (Randim who was awesome). You are kidding me now life time?? I was debating between this and Mercedes club and called this place to get some info! First a girl picked up and told me an account manager will contact me shortly. 1 hour 30 min past and no call. Called back again and a rather aggressive guy told me that the sales office will contact me in 10 min! And "we are very exclusive club"! Saying something like that on the phone to a potential "buyer" only means one thing " life time club has no class who wants to create hype!"! That is def not for me! A classy place NEVER say such a thing before even getting my business! Btw it's like 3 hours past my last convo and no call has been returned ! You won't get my business Life time! I was a member of sky club. I cancelled the personal training program in September. But I still got charge in September and October. And when I called them, they just said they would call back. However they never call back. They try to grab every penny from your pocket. Horrible gym. read more

Awesome amazing experience! I am currently a lifetime member at another location and was in NYC Sunday through Thursday so I called Sky and spoke to Anthony at the Front desk he was terrific and extremely knowledgeable about the club and all it has to offer. From Jasmine in the spa To the yoga and barre class with Caitlyn I loved my 3 days here and will definitely come back! Lifetime never disappoints read more
