A day before I received a text reminding me of my appointment. When I arrived to the Social Security office I checked in using my mobile phone from the text I received to check in. Then they text me my ticket number. Once my ticket number was called I received another text with the window number to go to. The guy at the window was super friendly saw my documents and told me I should receive my new card in 2 weeks. He also informed me that after 24 hours their system will be updated with my new name and I could go to the DMV to process my new Driver License with my updated name. The entire process took 15 min. It was super fast and I love how easy they have made it with the update text messages.

Tecate is the border city here and it's such a pretty city with lots of coffee shops, so you can always park your car and walk over to the border, have coffee and walk back, and the wait is not even long to walk back, maybe 5 min max. Lots of photo opportunities and shops and such to peruse and look around. Great to shop for outdoor garden decor (little statues and wind chimes) too. There's also toy stores, a hot sauce store, a "Chinese" themed store which is quite funny to visit, and lots of spots to grab food too, sit down and dine in or casual take out. I personally like the churro and champurrado place when it's open. There's a couple restrooms here too, but can get crowded and a bit gross with the large volume of people visiting. Free house museums for self tours where you just walk through and read the little signs that they have, and sometimes there's historical actors as well, which is always a treat.

Half of Ocean Beach (mostly businesses) loves this Police Dept. trailer that has been parked in the…read moremiddle of the OB Pier parking lot at the foot of Newport Ave. for what seems like forever. Officially, it is there because the OB Police storefront was closed a few years back & this is a way of keeping some kind of "police presence" in the beach area. But many others think it is bogus and needs to move. According to a story in a recent Peninsula Beacon newspaper, this Police trailer was put in place in 1999 and supposed to have been only temporarily situated there. But the years dragged on, and the Police Trailer is said to house just a cop bathroom and a break area for police to kick back and write reports. Many in the Ocean Beach community begrudge the cops their blue trailer for taking up precious parking spaces in the always crowded lot and feel the cops should move it over to Robb Field--where there is more room and just as much crime. The big news is a citizen has filed a complaint against the trailer and now the Police Dept. is having to get a permit to park it in the lot from the California Coastal Commission! So because the Police Trailer does provide some kind of "police presence" in the parking lot area where druggies and penniless vagrants roam free, I gave it 3 YELP STARS. But I also deducted 2 YELP STARS due to the trailer being a view-blocking, parking space-clogging eyesore that rubs it into the faces of OBceans that THE MAN is always watching them. Maybe the Coastal Commission will deny them a permit and they can haul the trailer somewhere else. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I live in Downtown San Diego but I needed an appointment within 2 weeks. Q: How long did it take to make the appointment? A: The phone call to reschedule the appointment took about 45 minutes, which honestly was the least efficient part of the process. This could definitely be improved. Q: Was parking difficult? A: Not at all. Parking was easy and convenient when I arrived. Q: Did they take walk-ins? A: Yes. The security guard asked whether I had an appointment or was a walk-in. When I arrived around 10:30 a.m. on a Friday, there was only one person waiting for walk-in services. By the time I left, there were about seven people waiting, so it definitely became busier closer to 11:30 a.m. I don't know the wait time for walk-ins, though. TIP: The first seatingrow closest to the kiosk is the waiting row/line for walk-ins Q: Were you seen on time? A: Yes, actually earlier than my appointment time because I arrived early. I need an appointment in San Diego within 2 weeks and this was the only location that was available The actual in-office process was efficient, organized, and much smoother than expected. My biggest recommendation would be: bring all your documents and mid morning appointments may be best. First I just want to say the security is a nice guy and tried to be very helpful. That being said…read morethe SSA in Oceanside has been remodeled inside from the last time I saw it it now looks like a jail. And the worse is that unless you have an appointment your not getting nothing done that day. I was the first person in the door when they first opened and they told me that what I needed to get done could not get done in person and that they were scheduling me a phone appointment because what I need done can only be done over the phone now. The next day very early in the morning I get a call from the SSA telling me that my phone appointment was being changed to a in person appointment because I needed to do it in person. Lol I told them I was in there the day before and their employee working intake told me I couldn't do it in person. So they told me just to come in person which I did but yea someone gave me false info and made me make 2 trips when I could have got everything done in the 1st trip. But they just want to push people out and force them to schedule appointments.
