The typography used, the clean lines, that old smell, the ghosts...first time for me at this post office (I am / sitting in the neighborhood) and liked the customer service very chill and also the fact I did not have to wait. I go to this post office often and the people that work there are spectacular. Always kind, helpful and knowledgeable. They have helped me find lost parcels and will go above and beyond. I don't understand the bad reviews. Some guy complained about not being able to borrow tape? Seriously? Buy tape (yes, they sell it), bring your own or figure it out before you get there. It's not a packing center and if they let you use tape, every single person would ask for tape and package up their stuff at the counter and lines would be horrendous. You're not paying them to pack or secure your parcel, so grow up, act like an adult or go elsewhere. Ain't nobody got time for that. Nobody loves going to the post office, but I needed a money order and was in the area so I stopped by. Street parking was busy, but I found a spot pretty close by. I went in and there was a pretty long line, but it moved quickly. Service was friendly and efficient, unlike at many other government/post offices. Don't forget to wear your mask! I have never had such a great experience as I do at a post office! The OB community is awesome and that awesomeness spills over into their post office and small businesses. I always go into the post office anxious. I moved here from Chicago where going to the post office was always a nightmare filled with attitudes and a lot of waiting. The OCean Beach post office couldn't be different. The staff is SO nice. I had the my own personal Zip code wrong and felt like a fool but I ended up having a wonderful conversation with the post worker that made my day. This Post Office is a trip! It is unlike any other Post Office I have ever been to. Ocean Beach has got real hippies behind the counter. One lady clerk rides her bike to work because she hates to drive. Another dude has dreads and reminds you of Bob Marley. There is also an older employee who looks like she should be retired and can barely walk but pulls up a stool and helps customers just fine. The Ocean Beach Post Office is not big. It is hard to park sometimes. Practice patience or smoke some medical marijuana before you come, because the lines can get lengthy but people watching is also a good time-passer there. Why they have the front drive-by mail drop-off boxes so you have to get out of your car to deposit your letters is a mystery but just like everything else down here, it is also charming in a contrary way. 5 YELP STARS for an impersonal, big government lackluster bureaucracy being pretty okay in that special OB kind of way. read more

Went here run take care some business. First time at this location. The lines was short and parking was ok. But one big issue. This was the closest post office to me cause I was in the neoghborhood I went to the counter and the old lady with the straight hair was rude from the beginning. I said Hello no reply back she asked where I was sending my package to I said its International..She then said u need to grab a box and we do not provide the tape ..I said ok I picked up a box for my stuff then she says loudly you should pick up the other box it's cheaper.. So I had enough I'm pretty sure she does all the time but to be Rude to ppl she don't know is just beside's me I went to a different post office and got great service. The people are cool but the service is terrible. My mail was lost on a consistent basis the first time I had a PO Box. After hours and hours of research and the post office not being able to figure out where my stuff was or what happened, I was basically told "tough". I do a lot of freelance work. There is a good chance I had payment checks in there. Now, with my second box, they set it up without an actual box. Months later, they told me they finally had a box/key for me but they couldn't give it to me because the previous renter probably had it and they had to change the lock. As in until that point, someone else unrelated to the post office had access to my mail at any time. They also told me I didn't have any mail, including a very important and expensive item, that they called me with a "whoopsie" when telling me they actually did have it. read more

He helped me save $30 by using a flat rate envelope when sending a package internationally and was kind and pleasant throughout our whole transaction, helping me feel at home at the post office although, as a millennial, I don't have much experience sending mail. It's a post office and they ship boxes. The one star rating is for the old lady working the front desk. Besides being rude and unfriendly, I saw her throw a shipping box with a fragile label about 5 feet away, into an empty metal bin. The box was about 8" × 8" × 8". Talk about not caring. While the staff is generally friendly, this post office consistently loses my mail and doesn't notify me. I have to call and beg and cajole the on-duty manager to have it redelivered. This post office is an absolute joke! From the supervisor to the mail carriers! Our mail has been lost, delivered to the wrong address, and packages have been opened at the post office and delivered with missing items! When you call or go down there they are argumentative and claim they do no wrong. Put a mail forward in to send everything this summer to our other house and they held all our mail at the post office. They had to box up everything and overnight it to us only after they finally answered their phone. Oops, sorry. Come on, maybe lay off the weed during working hours. Get to work! read more

Not sure what I need to say about a post office other than, this is conveniently located in downtown OB on Santa Monica. It's easy to run in and drop off mail or packages and likewise out front into the bins. I needed to make sure my letter was post marked a specific day so I ran in just to make sure and it was one of the quickest and most efficient post office experiences I've had. Love this Post Office. Always a sunny day at the beach when I need to mail something. Staff is surprisingly friendly but if you plan to go towards the end of a work day (3:45p and onward), plan for a 10 minute line. There is parking out front but if you go on Wednesday, you will likely be SOL. They have some mailing supplies on site which is convenient, but ultimately there are other shops around town (cough cough Postal Annex and the like) that ship USPS, but also offer service with every other private mail carrier--and you know how I love options. read more

Both mine and my sons US passports were stolen from this post office! There is obviously a theif there rummaging through people's private post boxes. Both our passports were tracked and delivered to this post office then they disappeared. I have a $10,000 European trip booked for my entire family and my passports are devastatingly vanished from this supposed trusted government institution! That is why I had our passports mailed there for security! Unbelievable! I will start off with saying that I love this post office!! I have my own box here and check it three times a week.. It is also a business box therefore I receive mail for many other people. Most of the staff recognize me when I wait in line for packaging. I love how there are specific people that just assist people receiving packages because I don't have to wait in line that much. Holidays can get pretty hectic and line can sometimes go out the door so you might want to send stuff with time in advance to avoid the long wait. Staff is really friendly. At times they might seem serious but its probably because they have been sending off packages all day long... I would probably be serious too if I was them! read more

If you are looking to call the OB PO, use 619-224-3610. The published number is incorrect. As for the service itself, unfortunately, less than stellar. I had a certified return receipt letter sent to me from in San Diego, the tracking shows it arrived into OB, however it never made it to my PO Box 10 days later. Kevin - very nice guy - has really tried to find my letter. But, its just not anywhere to be found. While I have never had a certified letter come up missing, however other things have been misdirected (a shipment went my an old address when it should have been delivered to my PO box). Just irritants that should not be happening with the post office. I know Kevin is between a rock and a hard place and has who he has to work at his location. I give him props for his efforts. But I hope he can influence some improvement. read more

"Oh, whew, ok thanks man!" Approaching the counter, big box in hand i say: 'Hey how ya doin miss!?' Miserable USPS employee: 'Is this ready to ship?!' Me: 'Ummmm (looking at my incomplete tape-job on the box), i say, NO ma'am, i would just like to know how much to ship this to zip code -----' Miserable USPS employee: 'Wheres it going, why isnt it labeled?' Me: 'Zip code ----- and its not labeled because i WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH IT COST TO SHIP THIS FIRST!' Miserable USPS employee: 'How do you want to send it?' Me: 'Cheapest way (smiling).' Miserable USPS employee: '$34' Me: 'Oh say word! $34? Aright lets do it!' (UPS quoted me $183....thatsa pretty big difference!) Miserable USPS employee: 'Its NOT READY TO SHIP...here! As she tosses a marker on top of the box for me to use.' Me: "Well, ive got a marker already, i just need to put a strip or 2 of tape on it....' Recently got a PO Box at this location and although it feels a bit strange to award 5 stars to a USPS, so far they've earned it. Everyone I've interacted with has been super pleasant, even down to the other patrons holding the doors for me on my way in and out. Clean, and everyone there is very friendly (even most of the customers). They are also pretty quick getting extra help up front if a line starts to form. I bring my office's mail here every evening. If I happen to come when staff is emptying the mail boxes, they come over to my car and grab my stack of mail--I don't even have to get out of the car! On days that I've had large mailings they're good about taking it from me so I don't have to stand in line. I send mail back to my family on the east coast and they get it withing 2 days of the mailing. I forgot to put a zip code on a birthday card once and it still got to it's destination! I've never had any trouble here--event during Christmas. I can trust that my packages and letters will get where they need to go in a timely manner. read more

If there were negative stars that's what they would get! Twice now the mail man has claimed he left a "sorry we missed you note" and there was no note! Just because he is too lazy to walk up a few stairs! I've had to go track down my package on my own! I paid for shipping they should be delivering it to me! Don't even let me start about the lady at the post office! I don't know where they find these people! Had no clue what was going on! Her hair was a Frizzy mess and not professional! Instead of trying to help get my package she took my number and said if "Fred" comes for lunch she will have him call me. She wrote my number backwards on the piece of paper! Came here to pick up a few packages just before heading to Mother's Saloon for some day drinking and food and good times. Long line on a Saturday. But this place has that mellow Ocean Beach vibe so they didn't close off the POst Office from any new customers right at noon. More like noonish. While waiting for the postal employee to pick up a few packages, I noticed a poem about Ocean Beach on the wall. Called something like Zip Code 92107. Can't remember who did it but I thought it was awesome to have something like that in a post office. Most post offices across America are bland soulless hellholes where you wait for passive agressive drones one bad day away from going postal to give you the service you need. But this poem on the wall gave the place a much more human touch. It may be an unexciting unfulfilling postal job but these folks I'm sure would rather be doing it here than anywhere else. read more
