Buyer Beware: Our experience with OMI/Lifekind revealed several serious issues with product accuracy, customer service, and post-dispute conduct that customers deserve to be aware of. For a mattress costing over $5,000, this level of inconsistency and service is unacceptable. We purchased the Lago Nouveau Certified Organic Mattress from OMI/Lifekind on July 29th. The mattress delivered to our home did not match the product advertised on their website. The law tag, stitched branding, material percentages, and certification labels were all inconsistent with the specifications listed for the Lago Nouveau. The mattress cover we received said "OrganicPedic Earth" instead of "OrganicPedic by OMI," and the tag listed only 85% organic latex foam, which did not match the higher organic content promoted online. We inspected the mattress immediately upon delivery. Due to the discrepancies and our medical sensitivities, we did not use it beyond a brief test. The mattress remained unused while we attempted to resolve the matter. The mattress was also undersized. It was advertised as a 10.5-inch profile, but the product delivered measured roughly 8.5 inches in height and approximately one inch short in length. When we contacted the company for assistance, customer service advised us to "stand on the corners of the mattress" to stretch it out. This instruction was unprofessional and an unsatisfactory solution for a premium organic mattress. Multiple attempts to resolve the issue directly with the company went unanswered. Phone calls did not connect to a representative, and email responses were significantly delayed. It wasn't until we filed a dispute with our bank that any meaningful progress occurred. After reviewing the evidence, USAA determined the product was misrepresented and issued a permanent refund on November 11th (Veterans Day). Although the refund was final and the chargeback was closed, OMI/Lifekind contacted us and threatened to send our account to collections unless we arranged a return within 10 days. They later hired a third-party disposal service (LoadUp) to pick up the mattress. The crew confirmed they were instructed to discard the mattress as bulk waste, not recover it for inspection or reuse, directly contradicting the company's public claims about sustainability and responsible manufacturing. This review is being shared to help other consumers, especially veterans and medically sensitive individuals, make an informed decision before purchasing from this company. We received a product that did not match the advertised specifications, encountered poor communication, and experienced concerning follow-up conduct even after our bank resolved the case. I waited a year since I bought the innerspring mattress and boxspring to write this review. I saved the Lifekind email sent to me to "review their store". Apparently, they want you to review quickly and disable the access to do that if you wait too long. I'm guessing because after a year, you'll see exactly what you bought and if it held up to what they claimed. A year old mattress should not have an indentation at all IMO. Afterall, I purchased their boxspring as recommended for the warranty. If you order a bed from them, don't expect that call 2-3 days before delivery they promise will happen from them or the carrier. That doesn't happen. So if you're away on the weekend somewhere to enjoy yourself and get the call the shipping carrier will deliver your bed that afternoon, good luck getting home in time. My advice. Don't plan anything away unless you give a neighbor a key to your house and hope they can drop what they're doing to be there to receive the mattress. The carrier delivers it to your door. They do not deliver it inside your doorway. Nothing this company told me was true about any of that. And for the cost, I expected better quality for an organic cotton innerspring mattress. read more

The worst pillow and customer service I have ever received. The pillow smells absolutely horrendous, even after airing it out. When I contacted the company to return it the woman on the phone said that many customers say the pillow smells like manure, and she find the farm smell relaxing. She suggested that we leave the pillow outside for two weeks to get rid of the smell. She also said that we should have sniffed the pillow through the plastic bag before we opened it. Never in my life have I had a pillow smell like I rescued it from a pigpen full of old bandaids, so I had no idea I would need to do a smell test in order to decide if I wanted to sleep on this repulsive product. It's spring in Texas, why on earth would I leave anything outside for two weeks then bring it inside to sleep on it?! the worst customer service ever. They used to years ago have phone customer service. They no longer provide that and chat is the only option besides there contact form. I have contacted twice on there contact form with my email. I have also contact contacted them on there site through chat. No response at all. When we placed our order there was no mention that the item was out of stock or would be delayed. 2 weeks later we still didn't have what we ordered so we e-mailed Lifekind and were told it would be another two weeks because one of the materials needed was out of stock. Nearly 3 weeks after that we finally received an e-mail telling us that the item would be delayed until the end of April due to Lifekind moving its production facility to Denver. A polite but firm e-mail to the director of customer service expressing our frustration about the lack of communication and delays (after spending over $1000.00) was received but ignored. All attempts to contact Lifekind got a response but only telling us to call back. However, comments about our experience were avoided - and no one answers the phone anymore so we couldn't just have a verbal conversation with someone. Naturally, we cancelled the order. We've been customers of Lifekind for 20 years and we wouldn't have continued to buy from them for that amount of time if we'd had this experience before. All our bedding is from them. We have everything from the wooden bed frame, their top of the line mattress, mattress topper, wooly pillow topper, pillows and all the sheets too. That's a lot of money over the years, but there are other companies out there making high quality, organic bedding and we'll be buying from them in the future. While the quality of the products I have ordered is excellent, the customer service is dreadful. I recently ordered a small stuffed bear for a new baby, cost just over $28. The shipping cost, however, was almost $20!!!! After arguing with them to no avail I went ahead and ordered it since the mother had chosen it from several items I suggested. Then it took almost a week to be shipped. I contacted them again and told them how annoyed I was and suggested that they offer me $10 off the shipping. No dice. Finally it was shipped and after 2 days of FedEx tracking telling me it would be delivered last Saturday and my telling the new parents to look for it, Fed Ex tracking now says: No scheduled delivery date available at this time. I ordered two pillows to try. On receiving, I knew immediately that one would not work. It was too think. I followed instructions and did not even open the plastic bag in which it was shipped before I returned it. The pillow cost $83.30 They only refunded $57.65, and I had to pay the return shipping. There was no reason to refund less than the original cost. The second pillow, which I am using, is filled with shredded rubber. While it mostly adjusted to my sleeping style, it is HEAVY and difficult to adjust during the night. I don't recommend this pillow to anyone. I will not purchase from this company again. read more

Everytime I give one of their Newborn Organic Gift Baskets it is the mom's favorite present. It includes a blanket, hoodie bath towel, wash cloth, receiving blanket, mild soap and a stuffed toy. IT ROCKS!! Plus they are super great with customer service on the phone and ship orders out pdq. I researched mattress a ton before I bought one. I decided that 100% latex is the way to go. Let me share with what I found about Lifekind. This is the sister company of OMI, a top of the line organic mattress manufacturer who sells 100% latex mattresses at fancy stores such as ABC Furniture in Manhattan. That's where I fell in love with their mattresses. I was recommended Lifekind by a woman who worked at ABC and decided to give them a shot as they share the same technology and facilities as OMI. I learned it's basically the mail-order section of OMI. The mattresses models differ from OMI because they have to be broken down in layers to more easily ship. However, the quality is still there - just under a different name "LifeKind". I bought the top of the line mattress (the trio) - size: Cal King. I am 155lbs. and found it too soft in its stock configuration (hard-medium-soft layer configuration). I returned the medium layer and replaced it with a hard layer for a hard-hard-soft layer configuration - this worked perfectly and the bed is now super comfortable and supportive enough. One should always have that soft layer on top - it's like a really nice topper. If you're not in a hurry, wait until about 1 time a year (for me it was around Oct.) when Lifekind has 20% off all mattresses. It's the best time to buy them. read more

Our new OrganicPedic mattress is like sleeping on a cloud while being cradled in an angel's embrace as it rains fluffly little kittens and cotton balls from the sky. Okay, maybe not the kittens because they have claws. But you get the picture. We were in the market for a new mattress after we threw out our old one because we thought we had bedbugs (we didn't--long story). So we tried them all--TempurPedic, Sleep Number, Dormia. We decided we liked the combination of memory foam and latex. However, we wanted one that minimized chemical and pesticide use. A friend of mine had just purchased a Lifekind OrganicPedic and was loving it. So we chanced it, without even an opportunity to try it out first. Ordering the mattress was easy and the people at Lifekind are quite possibly the nicest people you'll ever talk to. (Be sure to ask for Renee.) Our mattress took a couple weeks to deliver because they are built-to-order, per your specifications. The OrganicPedic comes with three layers of natural latex; we went with the standard firm-medium-soft. Though it wasn't cheap, this was the best investment I have ever made. I used to wake up with numb fingers--that has now completely stopped. My fiance's migraines are now much more infrequent. When the cat jumps on the bed in the middle of the night you don't wake up thinking it's an earthquake. The only drawback was that we felt it was a little firm. Not to worry. Lifekind has a three month comfort exchange program. Renee helped me through it and we decided to switch out the firm layer with a medium. She sent a new one right away (again, built-to-order) and now the bed is PERFECT. Seriously amazing customer service. Quick note: There is another review here that mentioned the bed sagging right after they purchased it. We've had ours for 3 months now and have had no such issue. In good faith, I ordered a very expensive mattress from Lifekind. Kyra was very sweet and respectful during the ordering process. However, I found the entire process very stressful, as I had such difficulty receiving a confirmation for my delivery date. After finally receiving my mattress, I was so pleased with its apparent quality and comfort. After six months, I turned the mattress to make sure it would wear properly. While doing this, the cloth "handles" on one side immediately started to tear. I still managed to use the handles on the other side to turn the mattress successfully. These mattresses are very heavy and one would think that the cloth handles would be doubly reinforced to account for this. And now it is time to flip my mattress. I called Lifekind to share my experience with the handles. Sylvia told me they would send a proper needle with thread to reinforce the torn handles, as my mattress is clearly under warranty. Oddly, she then told me that Kyra would be contacting me regarding this situation. As I was not receiving any calls from Kyra, I called back and spoke with her. She informed me that they would not send a needle or threads to repair my handles. Basically they refuse to do anything about this, period. I informed her how very upset I was that they could not assist me with this, as the mattress is clearly under warranty. She told me she would look into it further and call me back. It's been weeks now, and I've heard nothing. Basically, I just want to let other customers know that customer service is nonexistent at Lifekind. I think the customer service representative's are told not to call or deal in anyway with customers. Sadly, I am hesitant to buy from this company again. There are other organic mattress companies that actually care about their customers and will bend over backwards to make sure that they are satisfied. This company clearly does not do that. It is still my hope that Sylvia will choose to do the right thing and simply put the proper needle that they use with these mattresses, and some appropriate, strong thread, in an envelope, and mail it to me. I bought a certified organic wool comforter from Lifekind. I received it quickly and confirmed it had the GOTS label on it. Unfortunately, it STINKS. Like barnyard. I know wool bedding items have a slight lanolin odor but the smells like dirty sheep and the odor emanates from it. I emailed customer service and received no response. I left a review and confirmed my email but it has not posted. Now I noticed that there are zero 1,2, or 3 star reviews. I have been a customer of Lifekind, having ordered the Egyptian cotton blanket, a throw blanket, a shower head with chlorine filter, kitchen dish towels, bath towels, bath mats, and, I think, an ironing board cover. Just recently I ordered kitchen towels, and I laundered them before using them. When I began to try to dry dishes with one of the new towels, I realized that the towel had no ability to absorb the moisture. In fact, I noted that beads of water just sat on top of the kitchen towels. The customer service lady told me that she had these towels and had the same problem with them until they had been laundered a few times. Well, here is my thought: they may be made of organic cotton, but I surmise that the material might have chemical "finishes" that impede the absorbency. I am waiting for another response from their customer service, but I wonder if the company will be unwilling to make things right. Definitely will be going to other companies for this type of ware from now on. I advise others to look farther, too, as I have not been overly impressed with their towels or their bath mats as they frayed not long after I had purchased them. I ordered a $114 woolen pillow which came in a oversized card board box. I needed to try the pillow and opened the wrap. That's what i thought you do to test the pillow. I did not like it and contacted them for return over amazon. The shipping label said to put it in a box and send it back. I needed also to pay the shipping, so i put it in a box that was small to save on shipping cost. The refund when i called after 3 weeks was delayed because of inventory. I then called them and asked for my refund and they have taken beside my shipping cost $29 off the refund, because i did not send it back in the original box and not in plastic. I contacted amazon. They send me a very rude unfriendly email I stuffed it without the plastic wrap in a small box to safe money on the shipping. (email from the company: The customer sent the pillow back opened, used, without its plastic wrap and shoved into an empty cat-litter box in order to save money on return shipping. It cannot be resold or to another customer, resulting in a loss for us. Thank you.) would not do that. They could not sell it again. This company is the worst company i ever dealt with. I didn't realize fire-retardant is so bad for you until the saleswoman told me about it. I've had the Lifekind natural latex mattress for 6 years and still love it. A few days after we slept on it, my hip pain disappeared. My husband and I have different firmness , which I'm not sure I would do next time had I known there's a bit of a firmness where the 2 sides meet. So sleeping in the exact middle, over the years, has become less comfy. Not terrible, but when we turn the mattress, I get his side, so it really doesn't matter. I researched for 6 months all mattress companies and all components and toxins. My husband is a physicist and worked in organic compounds and chemicals. We bought three mattresses and a wool flannelette cover. We bought a crib mattress in 2008. It still looks new and is totally organic (most companies say they are but are not). It is supportive and comfortable. It is firm so babies don't suffocate. We used it for 2 babies and now our six yr old is still using it as it fits a toddler bed. ***So Yes I give it a ten and I would buy no other crib mattress. ***The customer service was also a ten. I was an over particular customer at the time, as I believe SIDS can be caused by a baby inhaling toxic fumes. The flannelette was a great natural alternative to a pee pad or wet pad that has chemicals. You must cover the mattress to protect it. The flannelette did shrink quite a bit after initial washes, otherwise its still perfect ten years later. It wont stop pee, just small stains and body oils. The twin rubber mattresses were the same deal as they held up well and are perfectly supportive, except they were way too heavy to use. We cant even lift a corner to tuck in a sheet, let alone flip the bed or move it. It seems they changed to now be much thinner thus lighter, but check the weight. The twins also had big yarn knots every foot, looked like flowers. They make for a bumpy uncomfy feeling. Make sure u dont get those. They r likely redesigned by now. My guess is they were a new model and there was this little issue with it and then they sold them off and then went with something new. So buy something thats been around for a long time. Also, to the lady in Hawaii who said these are not mold free... yes that's true they're not mold free nothing made with cotton or fabric or wool could ever be mold free unless it's Dipped in chemicals. The site says mildew resistant because wool is mildew resistant. But The word resistant does not mean mold free. If these were in a damp place with no circulation they would mold just like any other cotton / wool clothing. I bought from aurhouse (some crazy exp furniture store with US home made to order mattresses. It was not well made or firm enough. I bought from cuddle-ewe a wool topper and pillow. The wool pillow just lumped up because that is what wool does. So did the cuddle ewe tipper eventually and it felt too hot. read more

Beware - TERRIBLE customer service. I placed an order two days ago, receiving the Buy One, Get One Free promotion on pillows that was posted on their website. I then received an email this morning stating that the pillow I ordered was not available for the BOGO promotion due to a website error, and that I had the option of purchasing one pillow only or paying for both pillows. I called and spoke with two customer service representatives and then a supervisor, who did offer me 30% off on both pillows (but an increasing shipping cost), which made the total of my order $45 more than my original order total! The pillows I originally ordered now have a red note on the website indicating they are not part of the BOGO promotion, which I was told was added after my order due to the website error. I'm not aware of too many companies that will not honor an order that was already placed and try to charge MORE than was originally authorized by the customer, particularly when the pricing error was THEIR error, not mine. This is the WORST company with the WORST customer service I've ever had the bad fortune to deal with. We bought a very expensive bed that was uncomfortable and defective. Because of my sensitivities to non organic products, we didn't know there was another option. We contacted Lifekind and they agreed to work with us on an exchange. Every time I spoke with them in trying to get the exchange arranged, the price would change and go ridiculously high. When we tried to ask why the price kept changing and asked to speak to the owner, we were cut off and ignored. When I called after about 6 times, I was told that they had all been told not to speak to me. So they wanted to keep my money and leave us with a defective bed. A lawyer got them to refund the money and our credit card company was going to as well. We have the lawyer letter and emails as proof of what we are saying happened. It has left a very bad taste in our mouths and we hope no one else has to go through anything like this. There are many other reputable organic bed companies out there who care about their customers and will do right by them. We were able to buy a wonderful organic bed from another company who went out of their way to make sure that our experience as well as our bed was just right for us. They even went so far as to give us a bamboo comforter to take away the bad experience that Lifekind had given us. Costly mattress sagged after a few years and the warranty was not honored! Here's our experience: We bought a queen-size organic foam latex mattress from Lifekind in 2001. As soon as we removed the cardboard packaging, we were shocked with how heavy it was and how it flopped all over and wouldn't stay upright, making it a real pain to carry (absolutely two people required). We wrestled it into the bedroom and onto the bed and noticed that it ever-so-slightly sagged in the center area and the sides were higher. Oh well, we'll live with it, we said. It was comfortable and we were happy with it for about 4 years, until we really began noticing how much it was becoming compressed where we slept, and wasn't even recovering with mattress flips and rotations (which we did 2x a month). After a couple more years of living with this I decided to contact Lifekind, since the mattress still was under the "limited 20-year warranty". The woman I spoke with at Lifekind couldn't have been sweeter and more sympathetic, leading us to believe we'd have a chance at getting a replacement or settlement of some kind. However, she said we'd need to submit photos of the mattress with a rigid, straight pole of some sort laid across it, illustrating the sag problem. We did, and I even put a brightly-colored scarf behind the pole, so they could clearly see the large gap between mattress and pole. Well, she called me back and very apologetically said that now we had to do it all over again, but this time with a ruler in front of the pole, showing exactly how much the mattress was sagging. We did, and the woman at Lifekind finally called and said she was sorry for all the trouble we'd gone through, but even though our photos clearly showed that the mattress was sagging about 3/4", they wouldn't honor the warranty because it had to sag at least 1-1/2"!!! Excuse me? This was a very expensive mattress, even in 2001 ($1,220.00), and I think we were reasonable in expecting superior performance from it, but we were disappointed in the product and even more in the company's responsiveness. Customer service persuaded me the smell will go away after 2-3 weeks - after "ventilation" on the open, BUT it never left, basically I payed $170 for this organic pillow and cannot return it and cannot us it. :((((((. Some of their products are good, but know that if you have to return something, you will be treated very badly. By badly I mean uncivil behavior, and an unwillingness to back up their products and their claims about their products. Since there are so few truly fragrance free companies, I really wanted to have the professional relationship maintained, but it was not possible. Very sad. read more

Great organic products, but expect to pay top dollar. I'd give them 5 stars, but their website is annoying. It makes me pick up a phone or email them to know a price-which at midnight when I shop is annoying. I should just be able to see prices. read more
