Bobs installed plank flooring using a discontinued product that was discontinued for a reason. After the installer rushed through the job, leaving junk under the new flooring, the whole floor puckered up. Bobs came back and pulled the whole floor up and glued it down...though it was supposed to be a floating flooring. A couple of months later the flooring puckered up again and Bobs would not come back and fix it. Now, I have a $7800 floor that looks bad in multiple spots. I thought i would patronize a local business, and boy did i get burned. I don't recommend Bobs discount carpeting in Grass Valley. Bob turned out to be a real jerk. read more

After I received multiple bids for flooring. I chose Bob's Discount Carpets due to the energy I received from the staff, which gave me confidence that they were the right company for the job. Bill the owner, gave me great advice in choosing the flooring that fits our needs. I recently purchased an older 70's home and husband and I were doing all the renovation, but due to the floors being unleveled I didn't feel confident in installing the floors. I am beyond happy with the results from Bob's Discount Carpets. The entire demo & install team did a quick and efficient job leveling and installing my floors. The vinyl floors came out beautiful. I also liked the fact that I was able to purchase & have them install the base boards; other companies I spoke to prior said they don't have them available. Husband and I chose to caulk the baseboards after the install & everything looks absolutely flawless. The vinyl flooring Bill recommended to us to is also scratch resistant & so very easy to manage. I purchased engineered hardwood flooring from Bob's for a new building. I could have purchased identical flooring online for 34% less (including shipping), but I chose to support a local business. Things took a bad turn in connection with installation. Bob's quoted me an installation price of $4.00 per square foot. It wasn't the lowest price I was offered, but as I was purchasing the flooring from Bob's I was willing to pay a little extra. It turned out the $4.00/sf price quote did not come close to reflecting the true price Bob's attempted to charge me. My floor is 304 square feet. So, I calculated the installation cost would be $1,216 ($4 x 304). However, after purporting to measure the floor, Bob's said the actual installation cost would be $1,537, which works out to $5.05 per square foot, an increase of 20% over the $4.00 figure I was quoted. Bob's offered to install the floor the following week. As Bob's supplied no breakdown for the $1,537 figure, I called Tom, the salesman I was working with, to ask how Bob's calculated it. He explained that Kurt, the man who measured the floor, said the floor was 338 square feet, not 304 square feet, and that in addition to the square footage charge, Bob's would charge previously undisclosed amounts for "floor preparation" and installing "transitions." Tom could not identify any preparation work that was needed. Rather, he told me that Bob's "automatically" adds $150 in floor preparation charges for every installation job. As Kurt's square footage amount was indisputably incorrect - I designed the building and supplied Bob's with a floor plan - I asked to speak with Kurt. After arguing for some time, Kurt conceded that his measurements included an exterior concrete patio on which flooring would not be installed. He said he would speak with Tom about pricing. I wrote to Tom the next morning. I told him I was waiting for a revised quote given the actual square footage of the floor (304 sf). I said I would not mind paying for prep work if it was actually required and performed. Rather than supply a corrected quote, Tom replied "we are unfortunately overbooked on our hardsurface schedule currently so we won't be able to install your job." Remarkably, he sent that email less than 24 hours after he confirmed Bob's could do the job the following week. The inescapable conclusion is that Bob's was not willing to honor its quote of $4 per square foot, but rather would install the floor only if it could jack up the price by artificially inflating the size of the floor and tacking on a completely unnecessary "floor preparation" charge. I know that floor preparation was unnecessary because the installer I ultimately hired for the job told me so. And that installer charges only for the actual square footage of the floor - the honest way of doing business. As an attorney, I believe the manner in which Bob's quoted my installation job was deceptive and misleading and, therefore, likely in violation of California consumer protection laws. I assume other customers have received the same treatment. Tom was quick to point out that Bob's has been in business since 1977 has "a pretty good reputation." I doubt that other installation customers realize that after Bob's quoted them a price per square foot it inserted a higher price - without any breakdown -- in the final contract. A company that acts in that manner does not deserve a good reputation. read more

We just had Bob's Carpets come out to replace the carpets in our entire house. I highly recommend them. They had a large selection of carpets to choose from. They let me take the samples home. They even had cookies for my toddler when I came in to talk about the job. We decided to go with them for a couple reasons.. but the main reason was their price couldn't be beat. They were very friendly and personable as well. The carpet came very quickly after we ordered it and they started the job almost immediately. They left my house clean and the carpets are higher quality than we even thought. The installers were friendly, polite and efficient. We will definitely recommend them and/or use them again in the future. read more

Horrible! Don't these people realize they are not the only flooring company around! Very unprofessional and rude. They actually carpeted over my daughter's closet tracks and didn't come back to fix it along with several other issues that were completely inexcusable. I have never been so furious and poorly treated by any retail store in my life. They are pushy and non-appreciative. Buying a used car from a car salesman was a better experience. There are hundreds of other flooring places that treat people better with the same product! I will never shop here again, ever! read more

Bob's Discount Flooring installed a hardwood floor in my upstairs cabin. It was a challenging job because the old floor wasn't level, it had a few dips and peaks in the subfloor. There was also a bannister base and sliding doors that needed precise fitting. I was very pleased that the installation was quick and neat and on budget! The floor is beautiful and it fits perfectly. I am going back to BDF for another installation- I like the no-nonsense approach that they have in their showroom. There are no high-pressure salespeople, you are free to browse at your leisure. Also the prices are clearly marked and fair. You can shop around because there are a lot of flooring places in the area. But Bob's has a great selection of good quality hardwoods and carpets at fair prices, you should definitely stop by if you're looking for flooring. read more

I had a great experience from Bob's carpet from the very start. I went several places and they were all comparable in price but Bob's was extra helpful and felt like they cared through the entire process. I bought a fixer upper and it had 40+yr carpet and instead of moving on to the carpet and moving out again when they put in floors after my kitchen was complete (we couldn't put flooring in the kitchen until cabinets were complete and I had a long wait for that completion). I asked if they could do @75% of my floors so I could move in and call them once the kitchen was complete for them to come in and finish the job. They were happy to accommodate so I could move in and checked in though out to make sure I was happy. Everything went quickly and efficiently. I HIGHLY recommend them and would gladly use them again! I HAVE BEEN QUIET ABOUT THIS for a long time and this is my first ever review for any businesses ive dealt with over the years. It's been about 6 months now that I had laminate flooring put in all rooms but the bedrooms. The installer was an acquaintance of my daughters. She thought a friend. She's contacted him several times with no response First, I was never given a receipt and I need one! The major problem I have is that the way it was cut and laid ending up in straight lines down the middle of the living room, the floor is lifting in places and it's cut in places so short against the wall even the molding won't cover. I was told the laminate was waterproof and wouldn't lift. The pieces that fit under the doors were never put in and after taking all the doors off, they left them off for me to deal with. My daughter called and spoke with Bob himself and he hung up on her! What a joke. Everyone that looks at the job tells me what's wrong with it. Bottom line, a $5500 job and bad experience.
