Chuck is a subaru magician so I have bought 3 cars from him over the years. All super cheap and all lasted at least 100 K more miles. Once a 16 year old kid hit us totaled our impreza and Chuck came to the body shop to see if it was salvagable. He is super special. Don't be fooled by his grumpy exterior man if you are nice to him he will do anything for you. And guess what? The dealer wanted 2600 to put a new battery in our now defunct Prius but Chuck can replace the battery for 1000$ installed. There just is no one else like him. I've bought three cars from Chuck, and every single one has been great. So I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. As many of the other reviews stated - if you have a problem, Chuck will fix it and there will be no complaints. He's a straight shooter, and old school. If that's hard for you then don't buy from him. If you want a reliable car that fits your pocket, and an honest seller who will back up his sale, then Chuck's the guy. Beware of Lifestyle Motors!!! We originally went in last week to purchase a car for 1500. The owner, Chuck, said it would be no problem he had one that would work for us, but needed a relay switch replaced and it would be ready Wednesday. Wednesday we called and he reported his mechanic had been sick and the switch had not been replaced. Called Friday and it was reported ready, we went out talked to the mechanic who worked on it and he informed us the only work they had to do on it was to replace a fuse and the car worked just fine. Took the car out for a test drive and there was a slight shimmy to the car between 60 and 65 mph which is a sign that the struts can be going out soon. Drove the car back and before we could even open our mouths to Chuck he marked the price up to 1800, didn't want to negotiate the price, basically told us what we were going to pay for it. We mentioned the struts and he tried to say it was because of the new tires he had put on weren't balanced (like what tire shop doesn't balance tires after putting them on). Sort of the story is the dude is a dirty crook who just tried to take this Veteran for a ride and got a surprise when my mechanic buddy who I brought with me said to walk. DO NOT BUY FROM LIFESTYLE WITHOUT BRINGING YOUR OWN MECHANIC! I wouldn't buy from them at all. Perhaps I will go buy something from his competitor for 1800 this weekend just to stick that in his craw. read more

So here's the deal. Over the course of 5 years our family has purchased 2 Mazdas and 1 Subaru from Chuck. Do you honestly think we would have went back if the first car didn't work out? Chuck is a diamond in the rough. Some people may not understand his personality but if you spend some time with him, he truly cares about finding the right car to fit your needs. Even after the sale, he wants you to come back and be totally happy with the purchase. Through the course of three teenage kids, we've had our shares of scrapes and crunches and Chuck has assisted us in doing everything from getting the front of a car repainted after an accident and one time even replacing an entire engine when he felt it wasn't a good one that was in the car! By the way, if he thinks you don't trust him; he doesn't want you on the lot. I have respect for a person that expects to be respected! There aren't many (if any) places I'd send my daughter to unescorted to buy a car with confidence that she'd get a good car and a good deal but Chuck Engle runs such a business. He specializes mainly in Subaru with the occasional Mazda on the lot, presumably because of their reliability. My SO bought a '99 Forester from him 4 years ago and it's still doing great, even better now since we took it back to him for a few midlife repairs (timing belt, water pump, CV and such). It's not a slick lot with obnoxious sales 'droids stalking you. In fact it's a bit of a mess and your likely to have Chuck or one of his mechanics greet you in their coveralls. No hard sell, no closer talk, just the straight poop. He's been known to refuse to sell a high performance WRX to a teenage girl because "it was more car than she was ready for". Our daughter went to him recently to have him look at the Mazda her mother gave her that she bought from Chuck 10 years ago. He fixed it in 10 minutes after a pro took weeks of not getting it right. She's ready for a new car and Chuck was quite helpful. When she went to her credit union to see about a financing the loan officer had a lot of good things to say about the way Chuck does business. I agree with JD B., Last year I got a Subaru from Chuck, sure it had 200k miles, but with the work they did to it before I got it, I've put another 30k with only oil changes and a new alternator. A buddy of mine recommend him, and I would too. I think he works with what he has, and because of that it's not "as good as it gets". But lots of bonuses come with that. Cars are not always that clean, neither is the lot, but mechanically very sound vehicles. Maybe next tax season I'll buy the next subaru from him. read more

Almost no one has worse car luck than me and Chuck has held my hand the whole time. So far we got 2 Subarus from him, both went over 100 K after we got them with no problems. The first one got totaled when a kid went through a red light and hit me on the drivers side. Because of the steel reinforced doors, the metal folded all around me but I walked away and called Chuck who came to the wreck lot personally to tell me there was no way the first car he sold me (for cheap) could be salvaged. So within 24 hours we got our current Subaru from him. You will never find and I mean never! a person like Chuck anywhere. He will sell you a great car cheap and then turn around and fix little things for you really cheap and excellent work. One time, I broke a fuel tank going up a mountain road, both Bellingham auto and the dealer wanted over a thousand dollars to fix it and Chuck did it for a few hundred if that. My only worry is that he might retire and then I will have to give up driving altogether and take the bus. read more

Worst car experience of my life. Went to Chuck when I was 17 with my parents to get my very first car. We found the seemingly perfect car for me. Petes down the street is a friend of the family and has been our mechanic forever. Chuck refused to let us have Pete look at it, claiming his own mechanics cleared there was nothing wrong with the car and he and Pete had a "rivalry." He claimed the engine had been rebuilt and everything was perfect. He seemed like a very honest guy, not your typical salesman at all. Foolish of us, we bought the car. I went back to him for small things in the first month under his warranty. The car had a small shake so I took it to him, and he told me to drive it, an automatic, in third not drive to stop the shaking. ? After 6 weeks of owning the car I finally decided to take it to Dewey Griffin Subaru dealer to get it checked out. It took them 2 minutes before they called us back with a grave look on their face. The car had never had the head gaskets replaced at 150k and they had been leaking oil and coolant for several months, probably a year. The oil and coolant was caked onto the bottom of my car. After a long week Dewey ended up having to replace just about everything under the hood. The receipt of repairs went on for two whole pages. Chuck had been too lazy to even give me a battery tie down; my battery had been loose rattling around under my hood. ANOTHER $4,000 later I had a car that was drivable again. So if he says a mechanic can't look at it, WALK AWAY. He targets his buyers more than any salesman I've seen before, and he will take advantage of you until the very end.
