Not only that he made us feel so welcome, anyone would be lucky to have him. Hacienda Encantada Cabo - 4-Bedroom Penthouse Vacation Review (June, 2026)…read more If you are looking for a luxury, five-star, hassle-free beach vacation, Hacienda Encantada may not be the best fit. The resort offers beautiful views and several bright spots, but our 4-bedroom penthouse felt dated, several service issues affected the stay, and the property does not offer direct beach access. In comparing online reviews, the Yelp ratings (3.0) and comments seemed more consistent with our experience than the more favorable TripAdvisor reviews (4.6). Positives The $142 per person, per day premium all-inclusive option felt worthwhile because food and drink prices at the hotel were very high. However, guests should be aware that the resort periodically--sometimes hourly--requires tabs to be closed and restarted, which can feel like an added prompt for tipping. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and Ernesto was a fantastic server. The hotel restaurants included in the plan were stronger than the Marina/Golden Zone options. Mestizo was our favorite, although one of the higher-end restaurants was temporarily closed during our stay. On our last evening, there was no indoor dining option available. Tip: Avoid Barolo for Italian food. The pool staff and service were a clear highlight of the trip, especially Oscar and Manuel. Our butler was also helpful in navigating most of the (daily) issues that came up throughout the week. Negatives We worked with the concierge for several weeks to arrange airport transportation and a boat excursion for six people. Even after reconfirming the details before arrival, the airport transportation was not in place, and we had to take a taxi to the hotel; transportation for the boat tour was also mishandled. Be aware that the airport arrival experience was heavily focused on timeshare sales, and many of the people offering assistance were affiliated with timeshare companies. After the airport transportation issue, we were again approached by aggressive timeshare salespeople at the Hacienda Encantada who initially appeared to be hotel staff. Fortunately, they did not continue approaching us after that first interaction. Several people we spoke with said they spent four to six hours of their vacation attending timeshare presentations. When we arrived at the penthouse, the room temperature was 82 degrees, and it took three maintenance visits before the rooms reached the 70s the next day. To keep the space cool, we had to leave notes asking staff to close the shades and doors, which meant we had little opportunity to enjoy the views during the week. The resort does not offer beach access, which is important to know before booking a beach-focused vacation. The resort also requires towel cards for pool towels and charges $25 for each towel that is not returned, which felt out of step with the expectations of a high-end resort. The Golden Zone/Marina area felt lower-end than expected and was crowded with cruise visitors. We were approached repeatedly while walking in the marina, including by people offering drugs, which made the area feel uncomfortable and less enjoyable for our group. Based on what we saw, the sister property appeared to be of even lower quality. One night during the World Cup, we were not allowed into the Golden Zone's Legends Bar despite having made a reservation two days earlier; it appeared that outside guests who were not on the all-inclusive plan were being prioritized, even though the bar seemed to have only a small number of people inside. The manager's on duty, Fermin and Gabriel were very unprofessional! Housekeeping was disappointing. Dust from the air-conditioning repairs was not cleaned from the bathroom or shower, and basic items such as tissues and soap were not replaced even when empty containers were left on the counter or shower floor; beds were made and towels were replaced daily, but little beyond that was completed. None of the rooms had smart TVs, so we were unable to stream content during the stay. Tip: Bring an HDMI cord. The hotel offered no evening entertainment, had no late-night bar or lounge options, and generally seemed to shut down around 10 p.m. Although the penthouse was advertised as accommodating up to 12 people, we felt it would be more comfortable for a maximum of eight. Overall Recommendation Hacienda Encantada may work well for travelers who prioritize resort views, pool service, and an all-inclusive dining setup, but it is not an ideal choice for guests expecting a polished luxury penthouse experience, seamless logistics, strong housekeeping, or direct beach access. We would not return and do not recommend the resort.

There are pros and cons. Here's the negatives first - there are lots of positives too, but the…read morenegatives are bringing out my inner "Karen." There's an aggressive push at check-in to commit you (and pay to attend!) an aggressive 3-hour time-share presentation, asking detailed questions about the cost of your last 5 vacations to convince you their $11000-deposit, $900 annual subscription, $1300-minimum weekly rental commitment for 25 years is a bargain. Food prices are higher than major-city downtown hotels - $30 for a cocktail, buffet $45. (Granted, most guests are all-inclusive or get food at 40% off if in the timeshare plan, but the full price is shown to you when asking for a tip to encourage larger tips.) And then after a surcharge to enter 2 of the fancier restaurants, there's still a further surcharge levied for half the items on the menu. The ice-cream shop is not included in the all-inclusive which seems an unfair money-grab. (When you are on an all-inclusive cruise ship, you are not handed receipts 8 times a day to sign and include a tip.) Long waits at the hostess desk every time to enter the buffet, either when the restaurant is full, or empty; long waits for poolside service, and a long wait to get the bill from the waiter every time - sometimes 10 minutes or so. (When we stood up to leave without signing they snapped into action remarkably quickly.) We were asked to give our room number 3 times at every buffet meal which seemed a redundant interruption. Not enough lounge chairs poolside - every single one was claimed before breakfast every day, despite unenforced signs that one cannot reserve chairs if not sitting in them. We did not get to sit in a lounge chair poolside the entire week. Most lounge chairs had lost their rubber wheels or the wheels didn't even turn. This seems like a simple investment that the hotel refuses to make. Beach was closed for walking (enforced day and night by lifeguards) due to dangerous surf and undertow along nearly the entire length in front of the hotel. Wifi does not reach all areas of hotel and requires a fastidious sign-in that takes longer than 75 seconds esp if the wifi is weak. Outdoor hot tub was tepid - making the walk back to the room very cold. Buffet items are not replenished near the end of the meal service. Tongs for serving at the buffet take a lot of force to close making self-serve difficult, with spilt food everywhere as a result. (Is management even looking at these things?) Although the buffet has a pork, a beef, a chicken, and a fish dish at every meal, and they vary, they are all stew-type dishes with a sameness to them all. When they did try something unusual, it was fish with vanilla sauce that was just a horrible unexpected combination. Authentic Mexican options abound, yet they are all very bland. Two kinds of music playing on top of each other in the spa massage rooms, and the music is distorted as if the pre-amp is set too loud. Massages are $200 for 50 minutes - more than the most expensive US venues, yet the therapists do exactly the same technique in the same order every massage with no special attention to areas marked on the intake form. The therapists do not massage as if they understand specific muscle groups suggesting they are not licensed trained therapists. The tiny general store had only candy; no basic toiletry supplies, and no over-the-counter medications for headache, colds, pain, sunburn etc. with the nearest pharmacy a ten minute drive away. Positives: Whales are abundantly in view constantly (it's March) and can be seen just offshore occasionally breaching - close enough you can hear the "slap" but too far to photograph without a telephoto lens. Architecture and ambience feels grand, though just a little dated, and well-maintained. The villa rooms are remarkably quiet, with very quiet central air conditioning, and staff move quietly through the compound in electric carts. Staff are consistently friendly, always very presentable, and greet every guest they pass. Comfortable bed with perfectly-smoothed sheets and spacious rooms with esthetically pleasing furniture, lamps, fabrics. Toiletries had a nice scent of guava and citrus. Housekeeping was detail-oriented with whimsically folded towels, and florets made from toilet paper. Efficient service at the coffee bar with great lattes. Beautiful gardens are well maintained, with even the dirt raked in patterns at the base of each tree, and gardeners attending to upkeep every day. Service is top-notch in restaurants that require a surcharge - such as cleaning all crumbs off the table between courses, coming by to place the napkin on your lap again after you visit the restroom, waiting with dessert in hand tableside until a break in the conversation, using extra staff to bring all plates simultaneously, offering a first sample taste of even the house wine. And the food is exceptional and imaginative in the surcharge restaurants.

Beware - Food Poisoning…read more We were excited to spend our spring break at Hacienda Del Mar. The resort is beautiful and many of the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are however some major issues with management and lack of accountability. We traveled with our two teens so we stayed in a two bedroom ocean view condo. Our first morning we woke up to the dining room ceiling caved in and water leaking everywhere. The front desk staff was helpful, but we spent the majority of our first day looking at other available units, then repacking all of our things, moving them, and unpacking again. The unit we wound up in was not as good of a view or location as the first, but we were happy to just move on. We never heard anything from management about this major inconvenience, we didn't expect anything for it but an apology would have been thoughtful. I would not have even mentioned this if not for what happened next. Thursday evening we had dinner at the resort (because we purchased the all inclusive plan so that's where we ate the whole week) and by midnight I was awake with stomach cramps starting. I spent the next 16 hours violently, violently ill. At this point my husband had reported my illness to the front desk and they suggested I see the doctor on site. I made my way there and they said I had to be transferred to the hospital because my blood pressure was too low. I spent the rest of that day at the hospital, and incurred quite an expense due to the injury incurred at the resort. On top of that, they also charged me for seeing the on-site doctor. Although I was still quite ill Saturday I filled out and signed an incident report and requested to speak to a manager. I was told the manager was in the other building and would be in touch. I have sent multiple messages and still not gotten any response. Just an apology from the management would have been great but I incurred significant expense due to the illness from eating at the resort. I also paid a significant amount for an all inclusive plan I was unable to use for a day and a half because I was too sick to eat or drink anything. I understand mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and response are inexcusable. Out of our 7 day vacation I lost 3 days dealing with issues directly caused by the establishment. I recommend you think twice before booking here.

Our stay was $28,000 and we were treated like dogs by this company. Please feel free to contact me regarding this review and our experience so you don't have to suffer and lose money like we did. We rented a house on VRBO and paid for all people staying at the house. After arriving in Mexico Kate called us and stated she needed to charge us more. They charged more than 8k more. No receipt of charges, they did not send an itemized bill until after I hounded Dave for days upon our return. Even after that they did not send daily totals which would have shown easily their overcharging every night for guests we never even had. After they sent the bill it was obvious they charged us for 18 people, we never confirmed nor had that many. We had 16 for one night. We had a five night stay. They rely on people giving their cc and not looking into the charges. David called me "psychotic" and "3 year old" when I stated the facts that we had been overcharged and sent facts related to the stay and my discontent. He offered to credit us back having us both sign a docusign if we would not write a bad review. Then he writes back and stated to my husband that I created a fake profile to make a bad review. All lies to get out of paying back what they owed us. He lied to my husband stating he never had one bad review and a quick google search you can find many I have reposted here. He made ridiculous and laughable legal threats on claims of defamation( though I have a background in law) but in true form refused to give his service address for us to serve him with legal paperwork on the overcharging and fraud. I am filing complaints with the BBB and getting into contact with the house owners so they know the fraudsters they are working with on their property. DO NOT use this company unless you want to waste your time and money. Dave and Kate are nice until they get their money and then they show their true colors, nasty rude money grubbing scam artists.

They agreed with our request, we worked out the details, they got most of our questions answered and took nearly 2 weeks for this to take place. Something that could have been done in a day or two. We dropped all our other options we had there, 10 of us booked flights and we were just waiting for the correct contract to get to us so that we can sign and wire over money. Then after all this and 2 weeks wasted, they said they are no longer renting the house to us. We are now out of options because our other options we had are no longer available. Our family and friends don't have an option for our month-long vacation. They have ruined our December and they don't care. They are by far the worst company we have ever dealt with, and I would recommend staying away from them at all costs.

The shuttle 10/10, food 10/10 - however the severely undercooked salmon and lamb led me to have food poisoning. However, I could not say the same thing about the HORRIBLE service. if you are coming for all inclusive here - DO NOT I warn you - the service is insanely slow, they make you feel like you are not part of an "all inclusive" deal and I'll go on later to explain why I had a problem with TRUSTING the PEOPLE and the employees for this hotel. Every activity and dinner FOR the all inclusive within the resort required a pre-reservation, including dinner - which I totally understand. It was the way that the reservation agent spoke to us as if everything was "fully booked out" when it really wasn't and lied to us. We arrived for a shorter trip, and when trying to book a reservation through the concierge for dinner, they said they were fully booked, I begged and pleaded to see if there were any spots, and they let us. When we showed up to the restaurant there were only 2 other couples there - so we were wondering why the HECK would you say that things were full when it truly wasn't? Same thing for trying to book the tequila tasting. Although we had a wonderful experience - they acted as if there were "no spots left" and that everything was "booked out" when in reality, my partner and I were the ONLY ones there. I do not trust the "concierge" at this hotel and this made me want to never come back to this hotel again. I do not recommend coming here unless you have every single reservation booked as they are not well equipped for an all inclusive vacation.
