I love this place, as much as you can love a bank I guess. The great thing is that they are not a bank...no crazy fees and minimum balances for regular checking and savings accounts. I came to this credit union from a friends recommendation after not being able to get a credit card from TD Banknorth about 5 years ago. I was under 18 but had been making deposits with them daily and they insisted I have a co-signer due to my lack of credit history. Instead of working with me they allowed me to close 6 accounts and take out all my money. I came to Northeast Credit Union with no accounts there, no credit history and being 17 years old and asked for a credit card which they issued me. I have been there ever since and no matter what branch I go to everyone if very friendly and I have never had a complaint about anything whatsoever. It easy to get answers and their online banking is easy to set up and use. This is as good as it gets. read more

I had been with this credit union for a few years. was very happy Sage the CS rep at the Lee NH branch was fabulous! When I moved out of state I stayed with them. When it was Northeast Credit Union it was a pleasure to do business, now as Lighthouse Credit Union it's a nightmare. I moved to another credit union near my new residence n it is fabulous. You call you get a person on phone, you do not have to go thru a million screenings to help! Lighthouse has Very poor customer service, when you call in you go around n around n around, and when you reply to emails sent to you, no one ever contacts you back, oh and you get emails saying please contact me, you reach out n those emails bounce back. Then when you do get a human, they inform you that person no longer works there! How is it an e-mail you get the day before that person suddenly does not exsist. Oh and then you go into a branch to get caught up on payments you owe n they turn you away, refusing to take it saying that need to talk to another party! I joined the credit union 40 years ago. It has evolved from Northeast to the present Lighthouse Credit Union. When it was Northeast it was easy to conduct business, minimal time to get a real person on the phone that had the answers. Then greed took over to become a bigger credit union hence Lighthouse Credit Union. Now you go into a phone maze discouraging you from talking to a real person. If you get someone that person may or not be able to help you. Sad. read more

Given terrible customer service, this bank has gone way down hill since I joined in 2013. They closed the closest branch in Maine and the one 5 miles away now is a real old building and not very attractive. Their interest rates are terrible and today I wanted to close one of my accounts I no longer needed with zero luck on the phone. Took me 10 minutes to reach a live person, which I am 99% sure they were not in Maine. While I understand the need for verification now adays, they asked me for acct# , name, birthdate, last deposit, who made it, social security #, address, and phone number. At this point I didnt have access without a lot of work to give them deposit detailed amounts. The agent told me I would have to go into the bank to close the account. Communications and customer service have degraded a lot. If it wasn't such a hasel I would have changed banks by now and most likely will yet. read more

We have a loan through lighthouse credit union. I made a payment through my online banking. They applied it to a savings account instead of to the loan and sent me a late bill when I called to try to straighten it out they could hear my wife in the background and accused us of trying to do we don't know what other than paying our bill because we owe them money so we have no other accounts take money out of Other than the savings account you have to have to have a loan through them apparently. That only has our payment in it. They told us to go into a live branch and hung up on us. I've had many loans. This is by far the worst customer service. To have been thinking they were giving me information on money I owe them And was trying to pay. We will never use or recommend Lighthouse credit union. read more

Website is atrocious. People who bank online will have a difficult time navigating, paying bills, and the interface is exceptionally frustrating. They might as well just say..we won't contact you just charge you fees. Fraud department saw 14 charges on one day, and never flagged account. But they charged 32 bucks for every charge. Charged a fee to change address...don't contact you, until they close your account. Will never do business with them again. I have been a member of this back for 28 years. Maintained a positive account. The past 2 years this bank has been horrible. The customer service is terrible, the amount of fraudulent calls I get locking my card and having to have a card reissued is insane. Had over a 700 credit score and refused a car loan. They mess up my banking and charges over draft and tells me that they will not credit anymore. This was your fault not mine. Switched to new bank and much happier read more

I have been attempting to conduct business at Lighthouse Credit Union in Portsmouth, NH. My mistake for not having the correct documentation. At my third visit yesterday I arrived with the correct documentation, I met with Amanda and answered her questions. Within 5 minutes she was very rude, clearly expecting me to understand the process, which I don't. I was asking about a loan for work to be done on a manufactured home, she immediately told me the credit union doesn't do this. I said I guess this won't work for me. Of note, I am aware of others that have accomplished a loan from Lighthouse for manufactured homes. When I mentioned this to her, she literally flicked her hand and said "well we don't do that" and got up. I thanked her for her time. I honestly felt so disrespected. read more

I was a member back when it was Woodlands Credit Union. I stayed through the name change to Northeast Credit Union. I lasted about two months after the change to Lighthouse Credit Union. The website is archaic. As others have said, customer service is non-existent. And, there is just no benefit to being a member of this credit union anymore. After much of my family being a NECU member for most of our lives - things have changed substantially over 30 plus years. The staff is happy when you are putting money in your account - but have the audacity to ask what you are doing with your money when you pull it out. This has happened to all my family members. I have had North East Credit Union for 8 years with zero complaints. Ever since the rebranding with the name Lighthouse Credit Union I have experienced nothing but issues with each and every branch. The "open concept" telling is a violation of privacy and customer service has completely tanked. Between uneducated loan officers who screw up your finances and loan requests where they suggest you go to your father for assistance because they are unwilling to help long term customers or provide accurate information in the process, I am done. Today was the final straw at the Portsmouth, NH branch. A young gentleman was assisting a young mother who then asked if they had a restroom she could change her baby in. He told her no, they won't allow it for public use even for her baby. She had to go then change her baby out of her car, where it was 37° outside and extremely windy. This was absolutely despicable behavior towards her and her child. It just goes to show they do not care about you as a customer or keeping you! When I was called up after her I asked him why they won't allow customers to use their bathroom as I have never been denied access anywhere else. He stated it was because "it kept getting destroyed". I asked "you'll even deny access to a mother and her child" and he shrugged, came back and threw my roll of quarters and deposit slip at me and told me that I'm all set and can leave. I spoke with the young mother in the parking lot since she was visibly upset and I completely understood how she felt. I highly suggest seeking services elsewhere. They are unhelpful to the point of being hurtful, and are nothing but disrespectful in the process. read more

Awful bank to deal with. I became Power of Attorney for one of their account holders. The account holder had no wife or children, he was estranged from his family for 20 years and had no idea where they lived. He had to go into nursing care at the VA Home in Tilton, NH. It was a nightmare trying to get the P.O.A. paperwork filed at Northeast Credit Union. I had to bring the account holder to the bank because he could not drive. It was as if they didn't know what forms they needed to complete the paperwork and wondered why I was going to be the P.O.A. We ended up going back a couple of days later because they forgot one of the forms. I was never able to activate his new debit card when the other one expired. They claimed that he would have to call himself because they had no record of a P.O.A. This was all during Covid "lock down". I could not visit the VA Home to help my friend call the bank. He could hardly use his hands. The account holder passed away on 10/22/2023. I notified the bank the next day. They froze the account. I was not able to pay the VA Home or burial bills from his bank account. They said that the moment the account holder died, I was no longer P.O.A. I was able to locate a brother of the account holder living in Connecticut. I notified the bank of him, gave them his address, phone number and told them that he would be most likely the next of kin. His brother paid all of the funeral expenses. On January 30, 2023, I received a letter thanking me for mailing the account holders death certificate. I had already gone to the bank in person days after the death, having to make an appointment no less. They took a copy of it but refused to say anything about the account to me. To this day 3/27/2023, his brother has not been able to get access to the account. He is working with the State of NH. The VA Home is still waiting for payment for his last months care and resident charges. Absolutely, ridicules. The deceased had an income of $1300.00 per month. The bank charged him $4.95 per month bank fee. Why bank there? I highly recommend anyone to go to a bank that does not charge a fee. They are everywhere! Brigitte M. read more

I opened in account with them about 7 years ago when TD Bank finally pissed me off for the last time. Everyone raved about how much better Credit Unions are. The people in the bank have always been great to my face. For the most part, they're pretty nice. I went in about a year later to open a saving account for my fiance and I. They said "No, we can't add him to your account, we're not accepting new customers" WHAT? Then, I had one teller cash my check (when I was working for a local business) and she told me that my place of business was a rip off and she will no longer shop with us, and went on an on with her attitude. She made me extremely uncomfortable. I avoided doing business in the bank since then and only used the drive through teller... until the teller SOMEHOW deposited over $1,000 into ANOTHER person's account! Took us 4 days to find the money, because she didn't transpose our account numbers, rather she some how had someone else's account still open and didn't realize she never opened mine. I should have left then, but I find it to be such a hassle to move ALL my accounts, auto payments, credit cards and everything to another bank. It's not fun. In August of 2012 I applied for an auto loan. I figured I'd been a customer for 5 years, great credit, they'll probably approve me. Nope! Instant denial. Since then I've been migrating my accounts over to a new bank. I thought I got all my auto payments moved to the new bank. Apparently I missed one. I just got a notice in the mail saying I over drafted and they were so kind to not let the payment bounce, and that I owe them $28 in "service fees". I called and said, "look, I've been a customer here for quite some time, and this has never happened before. Can you please waive the fee?" and I get a "no, those fee's we can't waive". So I'm going down there today, to close all my accounts. I should have made the move way sooner. The people in the bank are (for the most part) very nice, but I've given them more than enough opportunities to serve me well and they've sucked. I don't understand why it's so hard to provide good customer service. A little courtesy and forgiveness goes a long way, considering I didn't s**tcan them after the $1,000 mistake. Don't bank here unless you want the potential to be punished like a child. God forbid you ever get scammed/have any fraud occur on your account (like that isn't a horrible enough experience) you'll get blocked out of any and all online banking! FOR SIX MONTHS. All so they can teach you a lesson - but not a helpful lesson in how not to get scammed - a lesson that you deserve punishment for falling for it! Like thank you I don't already feel awful enough that I almost lost my money! And scammers are so good at what they do. So you've been scammed and now you can't even check your balances online/your transaction history (which helps you check if any fraudulent transactions happen!), you can only call or go into a branch! Even if I had time to go to a branch, during Covid I'm not comfortable going into a branch - which would be multiple times a week if I wanted to check on my account as often as I would with online banking. And I work all day (during banking hours) so I can't just call to sit on hold for 20+ minutes whenever I need to check on something. Even if I could get ahold of someone (which is rare) I'm really not comfortable having someone go through everyone of my transactions to tell me what's gone through and for how much. That's very invasive. How am I supposed to pay my bills if I can't see what's in my account or what transactions have gone through? As soon as I can I'm leaving northeast. They have horrible policies, horrible customer service, and aren't all that good compared to other credit unions! And I almost told my family to bank here! Hah! What a joke. Hands down the worst customer service I have ever received from a bank. I chose to finance my auto loan through a small bank with the hope of gaining exceptional customer service (which they "strive for") - don't count on it! I moved out of state and needed a copy of the title in order to complete my vehicle registration. While at the DMV, I called Northeast Credit Union and asked them to fax this information over. The customer service representative agreed to help me once she received a faxed authorization from me. The fax went to her directly, and when I called to follow up (after waiting for 2 hours) I was informed that she had left for the weekend and they could possibly process my request on Monday. This representative did not offer to help in any way and provided no additional assistance. They are 3/3 in horrible customer service and I will be refinancing my auto loan at a better rate with a bank that appreciates their customers.w read more

She is professional and takes an obvious interest in providing the services the NEFCU customer is looking for. I was signed up with them when I purchased my jeep and they were nothing but a nightmare. Who seriously charges a $5 fee each month when you auto pay your loan? Their customer service is also so terrible. They are incredibly rude and condescending, specifically when I had to deal with the Remote Services department. Good luck to you if you have to call and ask a pretty basic epayment question! You'll most likely get a very unpleasant gentleman who will quickly treat you like a toddler. Do yourself a favor and avoid NECU at all costs. I know when you sign up for an auto loan, it's sometimes easiest to go with their recommendation due to interest rates, but there are plenty of other great credit unions out there! The Northeast Credit Union is new here since they have bough out Ocean Community Credit Union. The problem here is that we are not new, I have Myself been a MEMBER not a CUSTOMER for 30 years. However it seem that we are treated like we are not trustworthy, we are treated like we are new, we are treated like we enter the bank of America in New York City. Just a reminder Northeast Credit Union : you are a Credit Union not a big bank and you are here to serve a small community that has been here long before you. I've been an abused customer for 40 years and they just keep getting worse and worse. Customer service is hostile and obstructionist, condescending and impudent. I keep leaving them and then just when I've forgotten how much they angered me last time I was there, I go back and am quickly reminded. Do not get a mortgage with them. Now I feel like I'm in an abusive marriage that I can't get out of. I have to give them my DOB, SSN, telephone number, acct number, and address before they will even listen to a non-specific question. We are just expected to trust that the minimum wage earner answering the phone should have that information. Take our advise and do not get involved with this no talent, rude outfit. They can sending past due notices on car loans when payments are already made and they already have cashed the checks. I would never take a loan from them again. My father has been a customer here for years. He purchased a car for me about a year and a half ago. Every payment on the vehicle has come directly from my checking account. Now that I'm 25 my insurance rates have gone down, and I have a steady job (as a teacher). I called to see if they could essentially transfer the loan to my name. I was denied a loan for $10,000 with a full time job (with a contract!) and a 775 credit score. I've also never missed a single payment on ANY bill. While this was irritating, I asked the customer service rep if we could finance the car with my father as a cosigner (so at least I would get credit for making the payments). She responded that, yes, they could do that. After speaking to my father on the phone, the representative (Liz is her name) assured him that he could cosign for me. I got a voicemail a few days later saying I was denied for the loan, but could reapply with a co-borrower. Yes, thank you for that information... that you told me last week. So disorganized! At this point, you'd think they'd call my father for his information, since he clearly stated that he'd like to cosign for me. She really should have just asked him for his information when he told her that he'd cosign for me. No call to him. No contact with me. So, I called today to speak to someone. At this point, I'd assumed someone had resubmitted the loan with my father's information (which they have on file anyway since he's a customer). No, they haven't done anything. Not only that, she can't even be bothered to call my father and get his information. He has to make the call, and "there's no guarantee that she'll be able to answer it." Truly an embarrassing organization. I mean, how hard do I have to work to give you my money? They act like they don't even want your business. If that's the attitude they want to have, I'll take my money elsewhere. read more

I've had the most frustrating experience with NECU. I had an auto loan through the bank, of which I paid on-time consistently for three years. I paid off the remainder of my loan (~$500) early. Upon completing the payment of my loan I requested to close down my account as I no longer live in the Northeast. I sent in the appropriate documents and was told 'thanks for banking with us you are all set'. Two weeks later, NECU draws my usual car loan payment from my bank (I had online automatic payments set up). How can this happen I supposedly do not have an account with NECU anymore...? So I call and was told I needed to close down the online payment. However, I don't have a bank account with NECU anymore so I can't close down payments! The person who told me I was "all set" had said nothing about closing down online payments. I asked the current person I was on the phone with if they could do it for me she said no... I then explained this was troubling and a pretty annoying inconvenience, I have been an excellent person to bank with and have paid my loan on time and early and done everything I was instructed to do in order to close down my account. She insisted I needed to get online and shut down the payment and call my other bank where the money was coming from. Totally unhelpful, never apologized for NECU's blatant mistake and blamed me for the issue for not doing something I'd never been instructed to do, even when I had asked: "is there anything else I need to do in order to shut down my account". Called back the next day after talking to my bank. Spoke to another person, more empathetic but not more helpful. She refunded me the amount that NECU had taken for my auto loan that no longer existed. She was somehow able to shut down the online payments that the other customer service women told me wasn't possible. And once again I got the 100% assurance that I was "all set". I would be getting the full refund check in the mail, there would be no more automatic payment and my account was shut down. Okay I thought, finally we're done here. No... I receive an email two weeks later saying "Our records indicate that your Northeast Credit Union account has a negative balance." !!! what account are you talking about NECU!?!?!? I've tried three times to close my account with you! I've been told twice it was all done by your representatives. How is there a negative balance, I was told there is no more account?!?! Called yet again, "the bank is holding you accountable for your unpaid loan payment" I explain my obnoxious story and I'm told "we'll have to open an investigation on this"... currently waiting for a call back... I've now spent 5+ hours on this issue that shouldn't even be an issue. People pay off loans and close account all the time I'd imagine. It feels like the customer service reps lack the power to really do anything. I give 2 stars because some of the women I've spoken to generally have been kind and sounding eager to help, although not terribly apologetic for how annoying this all is for me. Talk about getting a runaround. Nothing simple or assuring about this experience. I've had to follow up and double check every single thing and I can't trust what I'm being told because they've been incorrect multiple times! read more
