I was in high school at the time and my dad was with me, but we put the deposit down on the car and they kept it to "inspect" for an additional day to make sure everything was running smooth. Within WEEKS my car needed THOUSANDS of dollars in work on nearly everything. Ot literally started making the worst noises. You name it, we had to fix it. It was not up to inspection code and not drive able for several weeks. We paid about five times in maintenance fees of what we had spent on the car (3k). That car was absolutely nothing but issues, and for a Toyota with about 120k miles, it should have lasted YEARS. Only was able to keep it for 6 years total before it completely died. I would never advise anyone to work with this business. And yes, we did contact them about this and they continued to lie and had nothing to resolve the problem. SHAME ON YOU. I found an adorable car that I LOVED for sale at MJM Auto in Gloucester MA, a little ways away from me but worth the drive for the car. I instantly called the dealer to make sure it was still available and let them know I was interested in it. I got connected to a guy named Michael who sounded like he was on a cell phone, but he was very nice and informative about what I wanted to know. We agreed that I wouldn't go down there until I was buying the car, because of the distance. So I filled out forms online to check credit and stuff like that. I waited 5 days for an email saying whether my forms went through. I emailed him maybe twice during that period asking for an update: I got nothing. Then I got an email from him finally that was simple: it said I didn't have enough credit to get the car. So I emailed back right away and told him I would work on getting a loan. No response for a week and a half. He would not respond to emails, calls, voicemails. Nothing. I went online to look at the listing for the car and it was one. I figured that he took it off because I was about to buy it, no big deal. Another week of silence. I heard nothing from Michael. He would not answer the phone or emails. Finally I got an email back: sorry, the car has been sold. What?! The worst service I have ever encountered by anyone, especially by someone who should have been selling me a car. I went to buy a vehicle from them, they assured me everything was in good condition and the car was ready to be sold, I drove two and half hours with my mother. When we got there the car looked okay visually and ran okay, if you weren't mechanically inclined then you'd never know you're being sold a piece of junk. They fix and clean the cars just enough to run well and look okay to secure the sale. Car had a cracked exhaust just behind the muffler that was barely hanging on, the ac didn't work and the compressor was completely broken and seized, the belt was sliding right over the seized pulley. The front headlight was out. The central exhaust gasket just after the cat was not even a proper gasket used on an exhaust system, still not sure what the gasket thing they used was but it was not meant for an exhaust. Air filter into the engine looked like it was 6-7 years old and there was an interior panel missing that covered the fuse box. And to put the cherry on top, there was an absolutely catastrophic oil leak, the entire bottom of the engine was dripping in oil. They assured me everything worked well and there were no leaks and no issues at all with the car just for me to drive and see a complete piece of junk that at best needed $5k of work. We did them a favor and because of their unethical actions, I'm now stuck with a monthly payment more than I can afford. The manger on duty on Wednesday August 12th 2026 told me that all their employees know how car loans work and they never would've said that. Here's where their unethical actions come into play. They actually offered an additional $100 off to help cover the first month of extra finance until we paid the lump sum. Super Manager's only advice was "Hey, you can always refinance!". What a joke.
