Our room was small but comfortable and the canopy bed provided some "wow" factor. The original fireplace, tiled floor and decor were nice unexpected touches. The breakfast room was huge with a small pub area, and offered private restaurant style table seating (which is nice for those who aren't morning people and wanting to make new best friends at 8am with a table full of talkative strangers). The big windows let in the light and the view. We were offered the choice of made to order hot breakfasts (french toast, or eggs & bacon) and there was a long table set out with continental offerings that we were able to help ourselves to as well. Gave us amazing recommendations for other local vendors, like kayaking, tours, food, catering, etc. And they were all perfect! Judy and John, her husband, were the most gracious hosts. Basically, anything we needed, they provided without hesitation. Judy and I even planned a surprise event for everyone and it went off without a hitch! Now onto the lodging, my hubby and I stayed in room 305 and it was everything we could ever want! For all of the rooms, which I got to take a gander at because we had rented out the entire place, they were so precious. The website truly does not do the Boscawen Inn justice. Everything is immaculate, clean, and every detail was perfection. Honestly, I can't wait until we get to go back. Thank you Judy and John!!!!

One staff member followed us out to apologize not like the colleague who was rudely yammering to her colleague. We followed up with a call and email and received a sorry. That too is not appropriate. A refund or something to try to make up for the disgusting state of the non sanitary change room would be an attempt to make things right. Sad situation caution on the change room conditions and less than satisfactory excuses.

An internet search brought us to Oceanstone, which seemed like the perfect place to stay as we also wanted to check out Peggy's Cove too. We were lucky enough to secure one night and totally fell in love with the resort, pretty much at first sight. We had put in our booking comments that we were on our honeymoon, hoping we might get a really nice room. We were so pleasantly surprised to walk up to the kitchen in our super cute private cottage and find a lovely bottle of wine along with handmade, outrageously delicious sea salt caramels and a hand written note. To the resort, perhaps a small gesture but to us, it really make our stay that much more special. We really enjoyed our night's stay in our private cottage, which was just set behind the main lodge. The cottage was quaint, clean, and well appointed. We loved our small balcony just outside the living room area, we enjoyed our coffees out there in the morning. The bed was also super comfy too, like a cloud. We loved it there so much we inquired about staying a second night however sadly the resort happened to be fully booked for a wedding party the days immediately following our stay. We ended up eating at the restaurant on their property, Rhubarb, three times in just 2 days - it was so good. We enjoyed an early dinner when we first arrived, then ordered pizza as a "later" night snack then ordered take out the next day for dinner from the next cottage resort we ended up staying at just down the road. We also took a couple of lovely, calm walks along the ocean front during our stay which was so nice. The property is stunning and it feels like you are in another part of the world completely. Looking forward to someday returning again!

It was an amazing 2 night…read moretrip to see 6 Primrose at the Devour Food and Film Fest in Wolfville, NS, but I also knew that we NEEDED to add on a couple days and see Halifax. Hence, where the Halliburton comes in. I spent a couple days searching Hotels.com for all the options, reading websites, and talking to peeps from Halifax to get an idea of where we'd want to stay. I finally settled on the Halliburton and so happy that we did. It's a historic site literally 3 blocks from the water. The buildings official dates are listed outside on plaques as Halliburton House 1823, Henry House 1834, and Pryor-Benney House 1831. You can see the bay out the front door. We ended up with a basement suite to save our money for eating all the seafood our bellies could hold and it worked out great. The bathroom had been recently renovated and Bath and Body Works toiletries were complimentary. It's a series of three townhouses that have been converted into a "boutique hotel." Parking is included but limited and super squished. I don't think you could fit a large truck in the back. They do have overflow parking down the street next to the waterfront, but I'm not sure of the details. Breakfast is included and was your standard continental with one or two hot items. On our stay the hot item was beans. There was also cold sliced ham and hard boiled eggs. Coffee and tea is available complimentary throughout your stay. The basement did have a bit of an older musty smell, I'm not sure you can get around that being old and so close to the water but I didn't mind. Right off the lobby, is "Stories," their fine dining restaurant. The menu looked lovely and I'm sure it would make for a romantic eat in experience but we were more interested in walking around and checking out local pubs. I highly recommend Henry House Pub just two blocks away (delicious and traditional meat pies) and the Bicycle Thief (waterfront) for a fancier night out. On-site parking is a definite plus for Halifax and the spaces were adequately sized, but when an oversize pickup parked next to our little compact car, we had a heck of a time getting out of our space without bonking into the neighbor's porch. Location is decent but unexceptional; it's a few blocks away from the main attractions of Downtown Halifax, although our room was nice and quiet. Be aware that the rooms are all located in townhouses that are extremely narrow, with tight hallways, low ceilings, and a lot of half-steps that can pose a tripping hazard. Staff was pleasant but we would have appreciated if someone had showed us to our room, especially since it wasn't all that easy to find from the front desk with how the Halliburton is set up. Overall, our stay was adequate, but we would have chosen to stay at a more central and modern hotel if we had to do it over.

They are located directly on the ocean, and will likely have heavy wind, rain AND the risk of severe oceans swells yet they put their income above the safety of their customers while all of our other reservations for the weekend have cancelled on us and offered refunds or credit. UPDATE: Despite numerous attempts on my part and that of expedia's to get in contact with the manager they ignored all attempts, failed to get back to anyone, and they've billed me a full day early instead of compromising in any way (even to give a credit for a future stay or change payment method to an insured card) when their motel is about to get HIT BY A HURRICANE. Avoid these people. They shouldn't be in business.

It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

There was a nice selection of simple breakfast foods such as smoked salmon, cheese, toast with jams, muffins etc. You should definitely check this place out if you're looking to stay in Lunenburg.

BEWARE!!!!! Currently staying with my family in a queen…read moresuite for a night away before Christmas. Mega disappointed. Just want to leave and drive back home for the night. I can understand a couple issues however, there are a number of things that are pilling up to truly ruin the stay for me and my family. Firstly, the rooms are not cleaned to hotel standards beginning with the mirrors being dirty, the toilet was dirty, the grout on the tile is black and dirty. I had to run to the store to get Lysol wipes to clean the toilet and surfaces before we used them. Secondly, there was no toiletries but bar soap and a shampoo and conditioner dispenser. I had to go to the front desk to ask for a shower cap and body wash. I've never experienced this at a hotel and was really put off. Especially because they did not have any body wash to offer me at the moment, but would let me know if they find any. Thirdly, the room was really outdated and old looking, full of stains on lampshades, carpet, rips in carpet, shaving cream left on walls of shower from last visitors. Rust stains in sink and the elevator floors were filthy. I was forced to check the bedsheets for bedbugs, not the way I wanted to start out my stay. Really wished I stayed in Halifax for the night at a nicer hotel for the same amount of money. Really bummed us out right before Christmas. Tomorrow we will try the breakfast but honestly I don't have much faith in the rest of our stay here. Definitely WILL NOT be back. Save your money and go somewhere clean. My skin will be crawling for weeks!!

Midweek the shower was fine, but on Saturday morning it literally squirted a tiny dribble. The fitness room has three treadmills, but two were flagged "out of order due to maintenance" for the whole time we were here. Lively pool, but hot tub barely circulates, plus we counted at least nine large spiders readily visible on the inside of the windows next to it. Although I have been a HHonors Gild member for several years now, I would not recommend this hotel. Again, it is a great location and attractive superficially, but I can't believe the Hilton/Hampton chain can be pleased with the way this place is being run and cared for.
