Walking tour operator I took the opportunity to join my kids school trip to St. Augustine as a chaperone and as part of that, the school engaged Ancient City Tours as our guide for the day. The guide we had was Matt. Matt with the hat to be exact- because, you guessed it, he wore a hat. Easy to find if you were lagging behind - and easy to remember. Matt and his Hat made the day memorable- he certainly knew a lot of the St. Augustine history and was able to keep all the group engaged- kids, adults and even the teachers. We had a private ghost tour with Kendall, and she was absolutely fantastic. She is very knowledgeable and gave us a wonderful tour of the city, sharing its rich cultural history along the way. The ghost tour was especially amazing--she even gave my son a small device to help detect ghost activity, which made the experience extra fun for him. She also showed him an app where he could see and track ghost activity, which was really interesting (and a little eerie!). We stopped at several locations to admire the beautiful architecture of churches and historic buildings. Kendall is a true storyteller--she really gets into character and even dresses the part, which made everything feel more immersive. She added humor with some great puns, and we found ourselves laughing and enjoying every moment. One of the highlights was standing in a courtyard using a handheld device where we could hear what seemed like ghostly responses. It even answered my question when I asked its name--very eerie and unforgettable! Whether you believe in ghosts or not, learning about the darker, ghostly side of Saint Augustine made for a perfect evening. I've always wanted to experience something like this, and I'm so glad we booked it, even last minute. You won't regret it--but be sure to ask for Kendall... or you might! We took a group of 10-year-olds to St. Augustine last week and had a really mixed experience with our tour. Our guide, Cindra, just wasn't a great fit for kids--or honestly even for the adults in our group. She was very strict--expecting students to walk in perfectly straight single-file lines and not touch anything at all. I understand needing structure, but it felt unrealistic for 10-year-olds and came across as more harsh than helpful. At one point, the students were told they couldn't even touch the coquina stone the fort is built from, with the implication that they might damage it. That felt like overkill, considering the fort has been standing for over 400 years and has withstood hurricanes, cannon fire, and everything else--so a brief, supervised touch didn't seem unreasonable for a learning experience. Her tone also came across as sarcastic at times. On the second day, when students remembered information from the previous day, she responded with, "Wow, you were listening," which felt more dismissive than encouraging. What stood out even more was how she interacted with the adults. Parents were told they needed to ask permission to step away for something as simple as getting a coffee or using the restroom, and some were scolded when they didn't follow that expectation. That felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I also overheard her making negative comments about a few of the boys in our group, which felt unprofessional. Because of all this, many of the students didn't enjoy the tour as much as they could have. On the flip side, the other half of our group had a different guide who was warm, engaging, and clearly knew how to work with kids--and it made a huge difference. St. Augustine is a great place for a field trip, but I'd definitely recommend asking about your guide ahead of time, especially if you're bringing students. read more

Mr. Ron was rude and screamed at the Teachers today when he did not clearly communicate his expecrations. He never apologized and made racist remarks regarding Native Americans. Do better. Act professionally and treat other professionals with RESPECT. Notwithstandin, you need to learn to read the room. When you see little Elementary s hook children COLD in 33 degree weather that they are not used to, move to protect them and get them into a warmer environmenr. The callousness was revolting. The students requested to see other things they were interested in and they were dismissed. Wapecially since the other tour guide with the same school was more responsive and took the children into all the areas of interest. It is NOT ABOUT YOU!!! The children travelled almost 5 hours each way to learn about history and things that interested them. Will never recommend nor use this company again! read more

wanted to give a huge shoutout to our amazing tour guide Ms. Lisa for taking good care of us and keeping the energy going despite how hot it was. We enjoyed the fact that we got to put a face to a name from what we learned from our Studies Weekly of the history of St Augustine . Our 4th graders students were sad when we had to part ways with Ms Lisa , which shows you how much they enjoyed and appreciated her. Ancient City Tours was SUCH a wonderful company for our 4th grade field trip! We spent two amazing, educational, fun, exciting, and well-planned days with our rock star tour guide Jan! She made sure we were on time and ready to learn, and she taught the students so much about the city and its history. She was very knowledgeable and had a lot of fun with the kiddos. Ancient City Tours does an amazing job! We have worked with them for many years and just spent two days with Rob who is extremely knowledgeable about the history of St. Augustine! He even includes current events in his conversations with the kids so that they understand that history is always relevant and we continue to discover more and more everyday. Charlie was the bomb. Maybe it was more entertaining because we met him during the day when we wandered into the Hospital and he was hamming it up? I don't know but he sure knows all the good stories. This is the only tour that takes you into the Spanish Military Hospital at night and as you can see of my review of that place, it can get pretty spooky. St. A is reported to be one of the most haunted cities in the USA. Now, I am a non believer but for some reason absolutely love haunted tours, houses, cemeteries.. etc. This is a very good tour and the guides know what they are talking about. Remember it is a WALKING tour so be prepared. read more

We came to St. Augustine during Nights of Lights, which is a busier than usual time of year. As a result, our dinner took longer than expected and we were going to be late to the tour. They kindly moved us to a later time, which allowed us to enjoy dinner and still do make it for Ghost Encounters. I have always wanted to do a ghost tour while visiting an old city such as New Orleans or Savannah but just never seemed to get around to it. On my most recent trip to St. Augustine my girlfriend treated us to our first tour. I figured why not do it in the oldest city in the USA! Tour guide was pretty good and gave us some pretty cool haunts to think about. I am not sure what I was wanting more but just left anticipating something else. Guess you can only do so much. All in all I had a good time but I think that it is geared a little bit more towards kids. Decent price of only $12.00/person so wasn't too upset about that at all. read more

If you're a history buff, you may want to skip this ghost tour, only because all the information that is provided by the ghost tour guide is fictitious. If you're looking to only be entertained, go ahead, but the origin of expressions like "dead ringer" being related to buried alive as they claim is incorrect (see http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2014/05/origin-phrase-dead-ringer/), and "saved by the bell" has nothing to do with death or coffins, but boxing, and such stories as the one about an "exploding bishop" who was in a casket and whose remains exploded all over the churchgoers have no basis in truth. In conclusion, take everything at face value, the way you would a joke or a rumor. Unless you want to be proven foolish, don't repeat what you hear as "facts". See this ghost tour as a way of seeing perhaps some sights you may not have otherwise seen at night, safely, while in the company of others and while getting some exercise (unlike other ghost tours that transport you in a hearse or bus, this one is 100% walking so keep that in mind if it's a particularly hot, muggy night). read more
