We stayed here for a few days based on many positive reviews. We were not disappointed. The rooms are a bit small, but nicely remodeled and up to date. The entire facility is very clean and obviously very well maintained. There are 15 total rooms, single and double queens. You can park right outside your door. In front of each room is a nice table and chairs for two - custom made by them. That's a nice touch. It's an easy walk to several nice restaurants, and about a 10 minute walk to Shepplers Mackinac Island ferry service. Access to/from I-75 is just a minute or two away, but this is far enough from the expressway you can't hear much traffic. The rooms have nice TVs, refrigerators (larger than most places) and microwaves. The people here are very friendly. We will certainly make this our go-to place when visiting Mackinaw City in the future. Thank you. read more

The code we were given would not open the room. I tried, my wife tried, our shuttle driver tried. No staff on site after 4pm. No answer on office phone. We had to find another hotel. They are also refusing to refund for a room we couldn't get into!! read more

One story, older motel, reasonably priced, clean and well maintained-but be aware that it is more like cabin-living. I'm not sure the yelpers who gave this motel 5 stars understand the stars system -as this is nice BUT it is NOT a 5-star accommodation. On the positive side, Parking is right outside the room door. It is Conveniently located and quiet even though the main roads are nearby. Rooms are big enough for two queen beds and each has a small microwave and a a dorm-sized refrigerator. Beds are comfortable. However, Carpets are indoor-outdoor and the sink area is separated from the bed area by a curtain. Showers are minimal. Spacious rooms and great hospitality. This motel is on the West side of the highway, so a little jaunt to downtown, but still within walking distance. There is a nice trail behind to walk the pets and an outdoor pool. Our room was very spacious and allowed more room than an average hotel room. It is locally owned, and that is definitely a plus because chances are with a big chain you will get someone who isn't from the area and you just might be disappointed. Our room was clean and quaint. We loved the Vindel! We couldn't make it from the airport to the last ferry in time to go to the island on Thursday night, so we needed a room in Mackinac City. The innkeeper where we were staying on the island recommended another motel, but it wasn't yet open for the season, and that motel recommended this one. Follow that? LOL The woman at the desk booked us into a room on the far other side, since she said a bus would be pulling in at like 2am. She was also very helpful about recommended somewhere to head out for a drink and a snack without getting lost in the heavy fog. Our room was cozy and clean, and the beds were super comfortable. I would definitely recommend the Vindel Motel if you are planning to stay in Mackinac City. read more

The Vindel Motel was a quaint motel situated conveniently to most everything we wanted to do. We could ride or walk to the town, ferry, restaurants and fort. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The tiny toilet was surprising. Do squats before you come! The wifi did not work more than it worked. Most often I could not get connected ... saying it was too slow. We could open our door and see the Friday night fireworks! The staff were very accommodating and friendly. This is a family owned place with the most wonderful owner. I will never forget this place for there good nature, friendliness, and help. I have never experienced friendliness like this from any hotel/motel or lodge I have ever stayed at (I'm from MI but have been to roughly 10-15 countries so I have had my share of lodging experiences. They made a one night hotel stay on our way to Mackinac Island one of the most memorable moments. I would recommend it to every single person who needs a place in or near Mackinac City. Perhaps we expected more based on the great rating. The unit and general property were very clean and well maintained. However, the bathroom is in need of updating, the shower head was marginal at best. Not enough electrical plugs for today's travelers. I love that the Vindel Motel is so conveniently located and reasonably priced. I made my reservation through Hotels.Com but followed up with them to confirm our room and make sure they knew we would be bringing our dog and that we would be arriving late in the evening. The gentleman who answered was incredibly friendly- accommodating for our late arrival, welcoming to the idea of our dog. Once we arrived, we checked in like a breeze and found our room to be absolutely immaculate and spotless in every way. The decor is older but nothing looks worn- you can tell that there is a lot of love and pride that goes into every detail. This motel is within walking distance to downtown and even has a small pool for the summer. We were there in mid April so it wasn't open yet. I highly recommend this motel and can't wait to stay here again! read more

The motel room we stayed in was very neat and tidy and smelled clean as well. The bathroom was spotless. Very impressed with just how immaculate it was. The motel was up-kept and the rooms appear to have been possibly updated, which is a plus. The beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows were as well. It was nice to have a comfortable place to stay on our trip further North. :-) They were pet friendly, which was nice as we were traveling with a puppy. We definitely would recommend and stay here again! If you're looking for a spot to stay, and plan on sightseeing more than staying in the actual motel room, this is a nice place. But honestly even if you want to chill in the room, it's got amenities in the room to relax and read/watch some tv, or hop on the WiFi to browse the web. A mini fridge and microwave are also in the room. It is close enough to drive to the downtown shops and restaurants, no more than ten minutes, probably less. For those who may never have stayed in a motel before, it is no Holiday Inn, it doesn't have all the updated amenities you'd find there, like USB wall plug sockets, a 50" flat screen tv, or a fancy shower. It's a nice place to lay your head and it's clean. Hard working people own and operate it. If you want to stay at the Ritz then stay at the Ritz and don't expect this to live up to some fancy chain expectation. You want a Yoo-P experience then stay here. :-) read more

This motel was OK. The room had a smoke smell that gave us a stuffy nose after being in the room for only 30 minutes. The air conditioner in the room was a little loud and kept come on and off all night and didn't seem to regulate the temperature in the room very well.The room was clean and the owners were nice. We would not stay here again though. read more

This place is fantastic. The woman who checked me in was very welcoming to me and my dog. There's parking right in front of the rooms and the rooms are very clean. AC is cold and it's in a quiet location. I travel across this country and motels like this are the best places to stay. Happier here than I would be in an overrated hotel chain any day! read more

Centrally located so you can walk to the city and shopping areas and also the boat docks for the island. They have a great pool! We wouldn't stay anywhere else in mackinaw city! My wife and I stopped their for one night. It's owned by an older couple---very friendly over the phone (making reservations) and when we arrived. Very clean, simple and tasteful. Everything worked and all was very well maintained. We like a firmer, not saggy, mattress--the one in our room was one of the best beds in any motel or hotel that we've been in--including pricey ones. It's a few blocks out of downtown so very quiet with no bright lights around. Especially for an inexpensive room, it was tops. read more

Decided to stay here based on the reviews and I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED! Checking in to the room was a breeze and the front desk service was AWESOME. I can honestly say this is one of the cleanest rooms I have ever stayed in. Right when I walked in to the room it just smelled CLEAN! And the pool was crystal clear! This place does not disappoint.
