A sweet little motel to stay before going to the island. Our room had a wonderful whirlpool tub where two tall people could comfortably enjoy a nice romantic soak after a long day. This motel also had two hot tubs one inside with an indoor pool and one on an out door deck. There was also a nice little picnic area with a grill. The owners are so sweet and accommodating along with their cute little dog. We can't wait to return. read more

I was looking for a hotel in Mackinac City, and literally scoured every site and hotel in the area online. After a thorough search, I decided to book here. Talk about an excellent decision! The prices here are awesome, and way cheaper then the rest. For a Thursday and Friday night, it only cost us $58 a night after tax. You can book the rooms online through their website or over the phone. You will need to leave a credit card number, but when you go to check in, you can pay cash like we did. I had a few questions, so I booked over the phone. The gal who helped me was super nice, and let me know that check in time is 2PM and check out is 10 AM. Each room comes with a flat screen TV, microwave and small fridge to shove your food in. Unfortunately, there's no in room coffee maker, but they do serve coffee from basically open until close in the lobby area. The lobby area is clean and well kept. It's not huge, but it's a nice little space. It's attached to the large pool and hot tub in the center of the Motel. This place is family owned, so no corporate shenanigans here! Each room has an assigned parking spot. Your spot has a number, so you know where to park, and even though there's no open parking here, it's an easy thing to navigate. Our stay here was extremely nice and pleasant. No screaming children running around, lots of quiet time and we were centrally located in downtown Mackinac. We were able to walk to the ferries and leave our car parked at the hotel, making stuff a little bit easier for us. Also, the pool is wonderful! After a long day of walking the island we were able to relax in the hot tub and the pool for a good soak to relax our muscles. Also, if you give your dirty pool towels to the front desk gal, you can get clean one's for your room. We had maid service that was excellent. She cleaned and restocked our room when we were gone during the day, along with all the usual cleaning stuff such as removing the trash and making the bed for us. Overall, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The price drew me in, but the pleasant experience here will keep me coming back. Not only is it half the price to stay here, but they have a great selection of room sizes for just about anyone's needs. Next time I come up here, I will definitely be staying here! read more

50s- 60s style one floor hotel with parking at your door. This is not a resort with fancy bling and extras, but if you need a comfortable bed in a clean room, this is the place! For the age of the building it was very well maintained. ( I do lots of renovations and look for that kind of thing) Staff was genuinely nice and accommodating. With almost all the other hotels in the area having bad reviews, pictures of stained bedding, bugs and worn down facilities, save yourself time and some money ( room was $99 per night) and just book your stay here! This is a wonderful family owned motel. It is such a cute, small, charming place to stay. Our rooms were just what we needed, and so nice to have a microwave and good size fridge. The rooms were immaculately clean. Not to mention the location. It is the perfect location where we easily walked to downtown Mackinaw and the ferry to the island. Our hosts were so very nice. I cannot say enough how much I recommend this motel. I don't know why anyone would stay anywhere else. I always stayed at the chain hotels, but not anymore. We will be back. Having stayed in this city before in a couple of different places (not being happy with the rooms or the prices), I found this place on Yelp and read the other reviews and decided to book 2 rooms. It is dated and retro, but we were super happy with the cleanliness of the rooms. They had a nice indoor pool that the kids could swim in which was well kept too. Great place for toddlers & preschoolers. We like the option of being able to lay them down, turn on the baby monitor and sit outside relaxing. Something you cant do in a regular hotel. Also the kids enjoy the pool, the put put green, playing in the gazebo and all the statues (deer, swans and all sorts of garden gnomes & frogs) The whole place is very dated but in a cutesy grandmas house kind of way. The bathrooms are super old but very clean. The only complaint I have is the bed. Super lumpy and old mattress. We were quite uncomfortable. Also the fitted sheet on the bed kept popping off. But even with a lumpy bed and bad sheets we still really like it here. Well worth it for the price! read more

Not saying it was a bad place because the price was reasonable, my only issue is they could update a few things! Starting with putting coffee makers in every room,I'm a early riser (way before 6 am) and you have to wait till 8 am when the office opens just to get a cup of coffee. Not Cool! Rooms 101,102&103 have completely no view at all unless you like looking at a wall or into the pool area,I felt like I was in a box with no view at all. and no continential breakfast as far as I could see...I actually didn't stop to look because I was in a rush to get some coffee at Toast a Go-Go. Would I stay here again...not really sure that I would unless I had a view and brought a coffee maker! read more

Let's face it. When choosing a motel, it's all about cleanliness, price and location. This place gets the triple crown. It's right across the street from the chain motels that charge $100 more. I would stay here again. My dad and I went on a camping trip in the upper Peninsula and decided to get a hotel room before making the drove back to Indiana. Decided to stay here it was $70 including all taxes and fees for a clean room with two queen beds, free WiFi, and a short walk to town. This was perfect for us. The motel is retro but maintains the charm of what the city once was. It was more money to stay across the street at the super 8 with only one queen bed. Updated decor! Well, at least the beds had been upgraded at some point during the Johnson Administration. The pillows, however, appeared original to this 1930's -era establishment. The many bed-bugs didn't seem to mind, though, and we got along famously. My wife and I enjoyed the free entertainment of watching their races across the all-too-small bathroom floor. Speaking of the bathroom, don't forget to ask for shampoo upon checking in, because it's not supplied in the room. At least not in ours, which was a little frustrating after they jacked up the price to $90 upon arrival. And, of amenities, there is no coffee in the room, and the lobby isn't stocked with lukewarm "coffee" until 8 am. Fortunately, they are environmentally friendly, providing the smallest and thinnest towels I've ever seen. So, if you'd like an antique mattress, complete with little "friends" to keep you company, and don't mind the lack of shampoo or coffee in a pricey room, come stay here! It's bound to get you to leave early, running for something, anything, remotely modern. read more

Found out about this place in a tourist coupon book so decided to check it out. It appears to be one of the older motels on the street but it is kept up very well and is priced quite well for the area it is in. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Just returning from a 3 day get away. This was our 2nd time of staying at Rainbow in 3 years. We stayed at Best Western Dockside last year and thank God it was only for 1 night at that time. BW staff was rude and they had our reservation all screwed up. We went back to Rainbow this year and glad we did. Location is EXCELLENT (on the main highway going thru town - Rt. 23 I believe it is - Huron St.) and within EASY walking distance of restaurants, lake, trolley tour, shopping and more. They have a very nice indoor pool and hot tub with lots of seating space along with a few pieces of exercise equipment. There's another hot tub outside. Why stay across the street and pay anywhere from $45-75 a night MORE when you can stay at Rainbow for half the price (or more)? My husband and I had a Q bed room for just under $40 a night +tax (our total for 2 nights was $88.26) and this is before Labor Day weekend even! Room wasn't large by any means but for the 2 of us it was just fine with room on both sides of the bed to move around. Plenty of lighting, table and 2 chairs, drawer space and closet. It was clean and had new Serta mattress that gave us excellent nights of sleeping and a nice, pretty, new comforter instead of the drab hotel comforters you see often. Pillows were good. We were on the end but traffic didn't keep us awake. Staff is very friendly, personable and helpful. This is a clean establishment with an obvious pride of ownership. I can personally recommend rooms 114 if you need 2 beds as this is a spacious room with decent sized bathroom and good maneuverability in room. This time we had room 124 which is an end unit (last room in block of 24 rooms) and you park right outside your door. We had nobody on the one side other than the sidewalk and street (which didn't bother us at all noise-wise) and on the other side is their storage room so again, nobody in there so it was quiet, especially at night. There are no coffee pots in the room but coffee is available in their office until 10 pm. We had a fridge that worked really well and kept our freezer packs rock solid and food and beverages nice and cold. Bathroom was small but no big deal. It was clean and shower worked well. A/C unit worked very well. Indoor pool area is nice with lots of seating and plenty of seating outdoors. We enjoyed sitting right outside our room and watching the foot traffic as well as car traffic. OK, so they don't serve breakfast. We took our own muffins and danishes and juice. And right down the street a block away are restaurants serving breakfasts and with coupons used/provided by the hotel and Visitor's Tourism Bureau, breakfast out is a great bargain. If you're going to be spending more than $40 a day for breakfast, then yes, go across the street to the top brand hotels and get your breakfast (because trust me, you're still paying for that breakfast with the price of their rooms!), but otherwise, stay at the Rainbow right across the street (which is also across the street from the lake if you want to be near it) and use the coupons for breakfast or take stuff to have your own in your room and pocket that $40+ per day! I've given this establishment excellent in all areas because even tho our room was small, for the $39.88 I think it was, a night, we got more than our money's worth! We won't stay anywhere else now when we go back to Mackinaw City again. read more
