However, we loved that dog very much and couldn't stand to put him down. We wanted to give him another chance at life. We contacted the Humane Society and they took in our beloved puppy. After working with him for awhile, we was put up for adoption. Not sure if and when he got adopted but just knowing that they were able to work with him brought relief and joy to my husband and I. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! MY granddaughter and I went to do a meet and treat with a 12 wk old kitten…read morethat I was approved to adopt. After arriving and speaking with a staff member my granddaughter and I spent an hour falling in love with this little gal. Before leaving we were going to pay her adoption fee and ask a few more questions only to be told that the kitten wouldn't be a good fit and doesn't get along with other cats. Which clearly stated on her page that she was good with other cats! After listening to there reasons that she wouldn't be a good fit I told them that my granddaughter and I had already fallin in love with her and I was willing to give her a try and to work with her if needed to only be totally discouraged to even do that. I don't understand how when we first arrived we were not told this information immediately so we didn't spend an hr with her becoming totally attached and in love with her. They could of also called me prior to the visit but didn't! I specifically told the gal that I was looking for a playmate for the cat that I already have right when we arrived! The least they could of done was be willing to let us give her a try instead of discouraging us in every way possible! They said the choice was mine but every time I said I would still take her they went on and on about it just wasn't going to work! So clearly the choice wasn't mine! My 10 yr old granddaughter was in tears all the way home and I'm SO DISAPPOINTED UPSET AND HEART BROKEN I don't even want to adopt another kitten at this point! Such and awful experience!

What a fun store. While the Central Wisconsin Country Store carries the typical pet food and toys,…read morethey also have cute lawn and garden items and even some animals. The day I was there they had a couple of adoptable cats from a nearby pet shelter and some baby chickens. I couldn't decide which was cuter. Surprisingly, if you come here expecting to see the usual grocery-store brands of pet food, you might be pleasantly surprised to see they also carry some of the natural or organic brands as well. This is truly a farm store at heart, catering to the community with its range of goods. Besides food for birds, squirrels, ducks, cats, dogs, and fish, they also have food for horses. Outside a specialty store, CWCStore had a really large selection of bird feeders, but only one that was squirrel-proof. That's surprising considering most back yard bird feeder owners typically have to deal with the squirrel population looking for an easy lunch. Overall, this is a nice store and I wish it wasn't so far away from me because I'd enjoy visiting more often.

In my opinion they make the adoption process too cumbersome and unfair. My last experience we were basically promised a dog but then were later denied after meeting all the requirements. Any pet we would adopt would have an extremely good life with us. We decided to adopt a pet from a breeder so we didn't have to go through all the senseless scrutiny. Also, I am not going to donate money any longer. And yes, I know people readers are going to be upset because they're doing good work i'm trying to screen out bad adoptions, etc.... what my experiences they are doing a poor job at screening and we're not going to deal with it any longer.

Leaving cats outside to find their way home will not help them find their way home, will not help their very worried owners find them, stop them from getting into fights, get injured, hit by vehicles, poisoned, keep them warm/cool/ dry, fed, watered, etc. The "shelter" wouldn't be so full if they would promote helping cats rather than leaving them to die a slow death outside, scared and alone. Compassion and help is better than doing nothing. Bob Barker used to say it every single day, "Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered." This shelter needs to embrace that and help people get their pets fixed so there won't be a bunch of intact cats running around making more kittens. Instead, they block anyone who posts these suggestions. One of their greatest advocates...and they block on FB because of criticism that they know darn well is correct!!! They can't handle the truth!
