Love love love this place! It is very beautiful from the moment you drive in. Be on the lookout for the red fence- it's the entrance from Lily Pons Rd! I decided to go inside the building first and see what exactly this place is. The person I spoke with was so helpful and informative! They gave me a map of the grounds and kind of warned me that the flowers and foliage and stuff wouldn't be as full because of the wind and with the season ending. I think that it is still so so beautiful! There's still some leaves on the trees with yellow and a lot of pops of red. I really enjoyed the art installments! read more

I've been a LillyPons customer for over 15 years and have always been very happy with their products, selection, Customer Service, and advice -- until this time. I needed to replace an old net on one of my ponds so I checked the LilyPons website (where I had purchased the previous net) to be sure what I wanted was available. The website indicated that the net and the size I needed were available. Just to be prudent I tried calling LilyPons four times Thursday morning (June 9) to verify that the net I wanted was in stock. Nobody ever answered the phone. Since the website said the net I wanted was available I decided to make the 30 mile drive (one way) and pick one up. When I arrived I was greeted by a helpful young woman who asked if she could help me. When I told her what I wanted she immediately replied that not only did they not have that size net in stock but that the manufacturer had stopped making it and they would probably not be able to get any more. I left disappointed... When I arrived back home I rechecked the website which still showed the net I wanted was available so on a whim I placed an order fully expecting the order to be canceled. Imagine my surprise when I received both an email and a phone call Friday morning (June 10) stating my order was ready for pick up. I drove back Saturday (June11) and got the net. It was exactly what I had been told was not available, turns out they had plenty in the on-site warehouse. I wish the young woman I had spoken to had called the warehouse or at least notified them when the retail store was out. After spending more than double on gasoline to make two round-trips than their shipping would have cost I think this may be my last trip to LilyPons. I should also point out that when making the size selection online the website indicates a price but when you put the item in your cart the price is $10 higher. read more

This was my go to pond place for 15 plus years.Great products and service worth the drive.My last was very different my advance order was no filled. Staff was sorry but we do know nothing and cant do anything it is just three of us and we do not know anything. Covid has destroyed the customer service part of the business. Richard Koogle has been coaching us about the care and maintenance of our koi since we moved in three years ago. When the water level in our large koi pond dropped endangering our entire koi family, he responded to our call even after Lilypons had closed to troubleshoot our pond equipment remotely. Don't bother! You dont get what you pay for. I drove there, a 2 hour drive from my home. I told my son to pick out any of the lilies they had on site and I would buy it. He picked out an expensive red lily (Perry's Super Red) that had a beautiful flower. (He'd been through a rough patch after being abused by his dad). He picked the I specified which (of the only 2 of that type they had) on my order form. (the one with the flower!) Picked up a basket wrapped all over in newspaper. Got home and unwrapped it and son just about cried, there was no flower, they had given me a different lily plant! I emailed the company to complain. Two weeks later still haven't heard from them. The kicker? My BF ordered two "rizomes" online (which cost substantially less than those you buy in person, $24 versus $51). They sent him two plants and each lily had a flower. Meanwhile I never heard back from anyone at Lilipons, never got any offers to refund me for the bait and switch or do a price adjustment or to sent me the correct lily. read more

Used to love going to Lilypons....ventured there over a week ago to buy some fish and snails for my pond.. Purchased my fish and due to the protocola that have enacted, was told I would need to get in my car and drive around for curbside pick up They said it would take approximately 15 min. Waited in line with other cars 2 1/2 hours to get my fish. Finally, I was given my box with my fish in there....howed them my reciept to make sure it was the correct box....when I got home entirely wrong order with the fish and one less snail.....was not going back after a 2/1 hour wait. Put the fish and snails in my pond....the fish have died along with two fish that I got last year from another hatchery. Needless to say, will not be going back there. read more

We drove 30 miles to visit the gardens. We got there just before 9:00. At 9:00 we expected them to open per the hours stated on their website. We called and got their voice mail. We waited until 9:45 and still closed! Not at all considerate of them. read more

Visit Lilypons today (4/23/22). New management with no knowledge of plants, prices not marked on items for sale and when purchasing fish or snails there are no discounts after quantity 12 as indicated by person at the register. Very disappointing. If you need supplies for your pond I recommend purchasing online. Crossed this place off my list for revisiting. Do not waste your time. No experience or knowledgeable individuals. Brochure/catalog for Lilypons very misleading. read more

I just got a pond cleaning by Richard with Lilypons. As an aside, I have not been involved with or touched our pond at all (left that to the husband to maintain) but after speaking with Richard and getting properly educated on pond maintenance and if done correctly, how easy it can be has motivated me to be (slightly) more involved. His knowledge base not just about keeping up the pond but also which plants or fish to populate the pond was extremely helpful. And I particularly appreciated his explanation about the nitrogen life cycle and how this affects our koi tapped perfectly into my undercover geekdom. We will be using this company from here on out. They also create brand new ponds if you want to start one and they can completely redo/rebuild existing ponds which we might need in a few years. read more

Not worth the drive. Prices seem steep, can't see the fish In the tanks, and really-- save yourself the drive. They've got a large area but there are several garden/nurseries in the wma area who with less space more efficiently show you more options at a better price. We will not be back. read more

Not a "cheap" place, especially with fish and dry goods. Plants are usually very good as well as other items. I've got 3 ponds and don't use them as much as I have in the past but usually make one big annual trip in May out there to "stock up" with plants, maybe some fish (I've always had bad luck with their fish and great luck with Petsmart's $0.25 feeder fish), dry goods and just to fart around out in the country at such a beautiful place. We've also purchased some outdoor furniture from them as well. If you go, take the "scenic" route.....270 is the quickest but there are many other great areas to stop when coming from other directions/routes. I always go out 28 from Potomac...takes a bit longer but much more peaceful. One of those roll down the windows, turn off the cell phone and relax kind of drives........... read more

It's almost like visiting a park or garden here. If you are heading to Harper's Ferry or happen to find yourself in Western Maryland on your way to WVa, come here to see what water and fountains are capable of. The staff here will help you to design your own koi pond, lily pond, or other water feature for your piece of property. We just admired the cool things here and browsed the shop dreaming about the future homes and gardens of our dreams. I would go out of my way to visit this place again. A Frederick County institution since 1917, it's like living history, with lily pads. read more

A combination of bad advice and ignorance lead to the demise of most of the fish in our pond. This ignorance is clearly the result of sloppy or bad training for the staff who are not obviously well acquainted with their work. An initial phone call to the staff resulted in an partial admission of responsibility but no apology. I would not buy a single of grain of fish food from them again. And would strongly advise caution for those using their services in the future. read more

Bait and switch I have a small leak in my 9 ft round fountain/pond. I had Richard from Lilypons come out based on a recommendation from another client. Richard saw my fountain and told me it would be approx $1500 to do the job, and he would take $150 up front for a written proposal to do the job 3 months later as they were so busy. His estimate was in keeping with another estimate and since they were recommended by an associate, I went ahead and paid the $150, 3 weeks later he calls to tell me he is sending a proposal for $4200! $3400 of which is labor. I have annual cleaning by another company which charges less than $500 to drain and scrub my small fountain. We were shocked, if he had thrown out that $4000 figure to begin with, I would have not wasted my $150 to get this BS proposal. He said that $2200 was for stone work to lift and replace over the liner to be installed by his friend's company, mind you, all the flat cut flagstone around my pond I can lift up myself, I am 120 lbs, I can lift up the pieces in 15 min(they are loose as they have been in place 17 years) and replace them, I just need someone to re mortar them, although I may leave them loose and do it myself now or have my landscape crew do it, they laughed at his proposal as well. Run from these guys, I feel like if you live in Potomac, they jack the price because of your zip code. Shame, Shame, Shame. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service I received today. I have been shopping at lilypons for many years but will not return. After driving 35 minutes to the "showroom" to purchase plants and accessories, I returned home to find the plant I had requested (wrapped in wet newspaper) had been substituted without letting me know. I immediately called and left a message which was not returned. The error that was made wasn't a big deal, the way it was handled later was. When I called back, I was asked to take a picture of the plant and was told they rarely make mistakes. Apparently it was one of the types of submerged grasses they sell and they give you whatever they have in stock. This I felt was misleading and should have been mentioned when I specifically purchased the plant by name at the register. A refund was given. Again, not a big deal but the response and customer service by the OWNER was extremely poor. I will not be back. read more

I can not say enough on how helpful and what a great business Lilypons Water Gardens is - I have been having an issue with my 300 Gallon Goldfish Pond leaking where the water level sinks 6 inches every 8 hours - I have been filling it up at all hours of the day and night as finding the leak has been next to impossible. I decided that I would take some pictures and send them to Lilypons to see if they could help. I was contacted by both the owner Margaret and her co-worker Brad and they helped me diagnose the problem and sent me a link to the product on Amazon that I would need to repair it (Aquarium Silicone Sealant). I also told them I was interested in an updated filtering system as the one I had been using had been in use since my Grandfather used it in the 80's - Brad suggested a filtering system that required much less maintenance than the one I was using so I bought it. When it arrived, I saw that the package also included extra adapter parts that I did not pay for but I needed - THAT IS GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I can not say enough on how pleased I am with Lilypons Water Gardens and they have a Life-Long Loyal Customer with me! They have saved me lots of time and trouble in helping me trouble-shoot my leaking issue and cleaning my filter is now a breeze. Visited today. We are purchasing a home that already has an established pond, and we are novices. Staff is very informative and helpful. Everything a pond owner needs from tadpoles, plants to pumps. Helpful website with information from start to maintance of your pond. Also have fountains, outdoor furniture, to bird feeders and everything in between. It took us about 45 minutes (one way) to drive there. We will never do that again. Here is why. We have two small ponds (under 2,000 gallons each). We were interested in adding a lotus to one of the ponds and drove out on a Saturday to see what they might have available. After looking at their plants we went inside to check it out and found that they carried some pond filters with which I was not familiar. I am looking to replace my filters as they require too much effort and time. The filters they carried that were of interest to me are in the $350 to $500 range for the filter alone. After reading what was on the boxes and literature in the store we asked a young lady for some assistance. She was very pleasant but told us up front that she did not have any of the filters we were interested in but would help us as best she could. Given the $100+ price difference I wanted to know what I would get for the extra $100. I'll pay for benefits and features. She was unable to answer some of my questions but assured us that the young man who was working there could answer the questions. We asked if she could request that he assist us once he finished with his current customer. We heard her ask him and his response was something along the lines of "You should be able to handle it and I'm busy." My wife immediately put down everything we had picked up to buy and we informed the clerk that the manners of the young man had just lost a customer. No one should treat a fellow employee in that manner. We were perfectly willing to wait until he was free and she told him that but his response indicated to us that not only did he hold his fellow employee in low regard but that our business was not important. The filters, accessories and a lotus would easily have been over $1,000 in sales. In place of that I am posting this review and suggest that as long as Lily Pons has employees who do not work together and disregard customers then people should go elsewhere. read more

Bought 3/4-5' inch goldfish in June 2015 from Lily Ponds introduced them into an established pond (my error) several weeks later all of my fish were sick (and have now died). Removed two of the recently purchased obviously diseased fish. Lily Ponds was very helpful in providing guidance and treatment (an additional $55 dollar purchase) and refunded my original purchase price for the 3 goldfish I bought ($19). My point in this review is, I was willing to pay a bit more for the fish from a "reputable" seller vs going to a chain pet store for feeder fish but am extremely disappointed and heartbroken. No amount of money can bring back the original fish who got sick as a result of my purchase from Lily Ponds. The original fish were over 15 years old and considered family members and watching them die was an EXTERMELY painful experience. I will not go back and purchase anything there ... :( read more
