I really wish they had PK-8th grade. The teachers and staff are great. They have such attention to details. Mr. Shannon will give kids compliments on their hair, backpack, shoes. Wow....they notice and really boost the kids self esteem. And they remember the cars of each parents. They really care about the kids. My daughter broke out of her shell and have such a positive experience here. She learned so much and is ahead of her class by leaps and bounds. Lily's Garden is loving, disciplined, and has prepared my child's brain to learn that everyday I say "I love Lily's Garden." The staff, housekeeper, and teachers, everyone is welcoming and hardworking. It includes lunch and my daughter has come a long way in potty training. She still won't potty, but she has all the skills that she could if she wanted to because of Lily's Garden. I feel if we were not moving to San Diego, and we stayed in the program through kindergarten that she would be fluent in Chinese and possibly would skip a grade when she got to elementary school because they make learning fun. My daughter is fifth grade now. And when she talks about Ms Karen, she still feels so hurt. She told me, one time Ms Karen made her stand in the corner of the classroom. She got humiliated and cried. Then Ms Karen pointed her asked the whole class, does she look like a good person? The whole class said NO! And I remember my daughter's hand got a deep scratch one day back from kindergarten, no teacher noticed of that. Then I went to Ms Karen, then she told me my daughter hit the other girl first, then the other girl scratched her. I was fooled by her, and thought it was my daughter's fault. But she didn't mention that the other girl grouped with other girls were teasing my daughter and calling my daughter "mean girl"!!! Can you imagine a 5 year old little girl be labeled with "bad person" " mean girl", be excluded by all other kids, be timed out all the time, be yelled at , be teased, be hated..... But my girl is a good girl. I attach my daughter's fifth grade teacher's comments here to prove that. Ms Karen basically is a bully. She did whatever she wanted to my daughter just because my daughter couldn't express herself clearly at that time! My daughter said she did the same thing to other kids, but my daughter is the major target. I hate myself, I believed the bully instead of my own daughter. The big trauma for my daughter since her 5 years old, and the big trauma for me since one year ago when I knew the truth, will never get away. We will never forget! If I could rate this preschool six stars, I would! Both of my kids attended this preschool. As an educator myself, I strongly believe their first educational experience is everlasting and Lily's Garden sure made an impact on my kids. My son started at the age of 2 1/2 and my daughter started after turning two. Ms. Pam did a beautiful job welcoming both of my kids. She was so patient with all kids and her love for the job shows deeply. My kids acclimated just fine at Lily's Garden and never cried. Lily's Garden became a place where they looked forward to attending daily. Pre-pandemic, since I had to start work early, both of my kids had to be dropped off around 7am. The staff at Lily's Garden is so nurturing and loving. The handoff to Ms. Jean and Ms. Debbie was seamless every morning. Both Ms. Jean and Ms. Debbie helped with feeding them breakfast and caring for them as I whisked away in my car to work. Ms. Jean also does a beautiful job with all the safety protocols ensuring every child gets sent home with an approved adult. All the teachers and staff at Lily's know all the children's names and treat them like one of their own. Ms. Christine has done a great job retaining her teachers and keeping them happy. Both of my kids were picky eaters. At Lily's Garden, they enjoyed the food there and even asked for seconds. It would make my day to know they actually ate and were full from the meals. As a working mother, I was thrilled to not have to worry about packing lunch for my kids. Both of my kids were extremely lucky to have Ms. Lily. Ms. Lily was everyone's grandma at Lily's Garden. She was nurturing and loving, and taught my daughter Mandarin which prepared her for her dual language assessment in Mandarin when she was tested. My son is almost eight and until this day, he still talks about Ms. Lily and misses her along with my daughter. Ms. May was my daughter's teacher too. She went above and beyond as a teacher, and is absolutely one of the best! She was my daughter's second mother. My daughter started reading at the age of four thanks to Ms. May! If this private school taught up to the 8th grade, my children would have continued learning at Lily's Garden. How devastated I was when my last child outgrew Lily's Garden! During the orientation, we were reassured that all protocols were in place to keep her as safe as possible. I love this school!! My two kids have been attending Lilys Garden since June 2014. The quality of the academics at Lilys Garden is well-known throughout the area. My kids' aptitude and confidence in reading, writing, vocabulary, math, and science is now far ahead of the average. More importantly, they have been infused with a love of learning. They wake up each day eager to go learn more. This is an attitude that will stay with them far after they graduate. But the real reason I love and recommend this school is the staff. Every one of the teachers conveys a true love of learning and love of children. I can speak especially highly of my kids' classrooms -- Ms. Aileen, Ms, Debbie, Ms. Yolanda, and Ms. Mae. They successfully walk the fine line between discipline/structure and individual care/personal instruction. I had visited a handful of daycares prior to starting my son at Lily's Garden when he was 2.5 years old and noted that these other daycare facilities were not as clean and tidy (I'm quite OCD). I also understand that good centers fill up fast, so I started making my rounds early. My older sister has had her fair share of poor experiences with various daycares and recommended Lily's Garden for their structured and academically driven curriculum. Lily's Garden did not disappoint. My son started with Ms. Yolanda and Ms. Ivy (pre-school); they were both great with the children and were sometimes strict but was able to keep the environment safe and organized for the children. My son had Ms. Dolly during his second year, and she was very kind and understanding and knew how to discipline the kids. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, my son's time with Ms. Dolly was cut short. My son was enrolled in pre-Kindergarten remote learning via Lily's Garden in the midst of the pandemic and we were so fortunate to get Ms. Wing. Even though remote learning was two hours a day, Ms. Wing did a phenomenal job stepping up to enrich my son's education. She was also able to keep my son highly engaged. As parents are not allowed into the classrooms for in-person learning, due to the pandemic and remote learning, my husband sat through all my son's virtual classes not only because he is a helicopter dad but because most 5-year-olds are computer - illiterate. My husband spoke very highly of Ms. Wing. She was instrumental in my son's education. After finishing pre-K last year, my son could write all 26 letters of the alphabet, sound out each letter and was able to read some high-frequency words. My son finished Kindergarten this year in June and is still enrolled in the Mandarin Dual Language Immersion program through SG School District. Their model is 80/20 for Kindergarteners, in which students in the program learn Mandarin 80% of the time in classroom and the remaining in English. My son has done exceptionally well (both in Mandarin and English). He was ahead in English and Math when he started Kindergarten and I believe this was due to Lily's Garden tailored program and learning. He enjoyed every part of the class, and felt strong collaboration and interaction throughout every session. I felt compelled to update my review after reading a recent negative review about Lily's Garden. I have been a parent at this school for the past 6 years and I would say that I am very familiar with the majority of the teachers as well as many of the families at this school. I would also say that our first child attended 3 other daycare/preschools (we moved from the SF Bay Area), and Lily's Garden is by far the best in terms of the quality of teachers and the teaching. There is a reason why this school has an unusually high number of children whose parents are very successful professionals and business owners. I have never had an experience where I felt any of the staff were being unprofessional or unkind to the children. I truly believe that the staff's main priority are the children's best interest and well being. I remember one time my daughter threw a massive tantrum and was flopping on the floor crying. I recalled that the teacher never yelled at her but brought her outside of the room to calmly explained to her that her behavior was inappropriate. The next time my daughter threw a tantrum, her teacher gave her a time out in another room. My daughter never threw another tantrum and she, to this day, loves that teacher even as she will be ten years old this year. In my earlier years of motherhood, I have seen pre-schools that are run like businesses. There are schools where the second you are late with the tuition, the school will hound you for payment. Some schools go as far as kicking the students out if the tuition is not paid. From my observations, I know for a fact that there are some families that ran into financial difficulties and either could not pay the tuition or were chronically late in paying the tuition. The owners could have easily kicked these children out of school and replaced them with new children, as there is never a shortage of families trying to get into this school. Instead, the owners were very sensitive and supportive to those families and never once threatened to kick their children out of school. The owners bent over backwards to make sure their kids were taken care of. I know of one moving situation where a young mother was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer work because she was undergoing chemotherapy. The mother told the owners that she could no longer afford to keep her child at the school. The owners responded by giving that child free tuition. I think one would be hard-pressed to find a school with owners that are so kind. Of course, nobody would advertise these stories and you would only know about these acts of kindness if you spent a lot time with the families and staff here. read more

Our daughter has been attending Lily's Garden since the summer of 2019. I have only good things to say about Lily's! Pre-covid lunch and snacks were provided, drop off and pick up times were very flexible. My daughter loved her teacher Ms Dolly and always enjoyed going to school. Chinese class and other extracurriculars were available. Tuition is very reasonable. Fast forward to fall of 2020 we did zoom classes with Ms May. Zoom is tough in general, especially for kids, but Ms May made it so fun and educational. She is an amazing teacher and my daughter learned so much! She went from not reading or being able to do math to reading sentences and doing simple math. My daughter went back in person June of 2021 to start Kindergarten in Ms Debbie's class. I was nervous sending her back in person, but the covid precautions were exceptional. We never worried about an outbreak. Masks required and lunch was behind partitions. We only had to pack snacks and water. Tuitions is still very reasonable. Hours were shorter but still very long compared to other schools. I am so sad she is finishing her time at Lily's and starting public school. My daughter also said she will miss Lily's so much! I will be sending my son when he is old enough to attend preschool! read more

Lily's Garden is one of the best investments of my money. The teachers are caring and patient with my children, two boys (ages 4 and 2). The very first time I walked in the door, I was given an extensive tour of the school and the curriculum. I was very impressed that there were separate classrooms for each group of children and that there was good structure for learning. My kids love their teachers, and this is the type of school where students routinely say good morning to each other and to their teachers. The school is clean, and the teachers are always making great effort to keep it that way. Kids learn how to read and write, and by the time my older child was 3 years old, he could already read level 1 and level 2 books with ease. Because this school is so top-notch, remember to enroll early (~1 year in advance). I started both of my kids at age 2, and I signed them up when they turned 1. The tuition is reasonable, and additionally, there are many extra-curriculars you can sign up for. For the tuition, you get excellent instruction in reading, writing, math, science (once a week, I think), and Spanish (also once a week). You can drop off your kids as early as 7 a.m. (although the 1st 60 to 90 minutes is largely free-play), and you can pick up your kids no later than 6 p.m. The school provides one mid-morning snack, lunch, and one mid-afternoon snack. The menu is posted on the office bulletin board so that parents can see what their kids are eating. There are usually two recess times. The kids do get a nap time, on cots, and parents must provide blankets. The school teaches dental hygiene and allots time for kids to brush their teeth. Your children will get 1 to 2 pages of homework on Tues & Thurs after the first 6 months (at least, this is the way it has worked for my kids); one can complete these worksheets in a reasonable amount of time at home. The extra-curricular offerings are phenomenal. For additional fees (for each extra-curricular), the school offers daily Chinese class, art class, and hip hop/dance class. My sons take the Chinese, which is ~1 hr every day (Mandarin is taught). In the first year, the curriculum involves a lot of songs and flash cards, to promote character recognition. In the years thereafter, the romanization is introduced, followed by characters (usually 1 or 2 new characters per week). There is always review of the old characters as well. By the end of the 2nd year in Chinese class, students start to learn phrases and sentences. Simplified Chinese is taught here. Chinese homework is typically Mon/Wed/Fri. Art class is usually once a week, and the price is waaaayyyy more reasonable than any art class you will pay in the community. I took my son to a community art class for a try-out, and at first they thought he was too young & wouldn't take him. However, once they saw what he was capable of, they were very impressed that he was already so far along -- and we owe it all to the fine instruction at Lily's! I have not enrolled my kids in dance, but I have seen the dance class practice. It appears that they learn Chinese dance, and hip hop is apparently new this year. Additionally, the school puts on an annual Christmas program, and all of the kids in the school learn a dance routine in the Fall. Saturday school is offered for ages 5 and up. It appears that Chinese, math, piano, art, and kung fu are currently offered. I cannot comment on what Saturday school is like yet, but I intend on signing my kids up for that when they transition to public school. Finally, the school also offers other services. For an additional fee, some of the teachers can help with toilet training. Math tutoring in mental math is offered for students who can concentrate well, again at an additional but very reasonable cost. I can't say enough about how wonderful the teachers are here; they truly care about the kids and go the extra mile to teach. Yes, the curriculum does sound intense, but there is plenty of time for fun. There are class parties for every major holiday and birthdays, down time in the late afternoon for story time, and Friday afternoon videos. If you are looking for a school that will catapult your kids to the head of the pack for kindergarten or 1st grade, then Lily's is the place. I have enjoyed getting to know the teachers here, as well as the other parents here. My kids feel safe, and they look forward to going to school. The teachers will give frequent updates on how my kids are doing. Whenever I have questions, the teachers spend a lot of time addressing my concerns. The customer service is definitely on par, and everyone always offers warm smiles. I cannot say anything but good things about Lily's Garden; in my mind, there are no cons. I am very happy that I chose Lily's Garden for my two boy, and I highly recommend this preschool to any parent looking for a caring environment with a solid academic curriculum. Initially I have some doubts about placing my daughter in Lily's Garden. My daughter has grown up in a small family like daycare setting where she was always free to move around the room instead of staying at desks and there was no limit to how long she can work on something she has chosen. I was seriously apprehensive about making such a dramatic change for my preschooler, seriously!! My daughter's little friend who attend Lily's Garden had shared with her repeatedly during play dates about how fun this school is. Out of curiosity, we decided to pay Lily's Garden a visit, and ended up staying. I admit that Lily's Garden can be very academic. During preschool, my daughter was learning kindergarten curriculum, during kindergarten, she is learning first grade curriculum. However, the teachers and the owners work very hard on every single student to make sure that learning is fun and that no child is left behind. My daughter receives very individual attention and help every part of the way. She loves school despite the dramatic change in her learning environment. The teachers are very loving and fun to be with. The owners remember every single students and parents, and are always there to address our concerns and make sure that our issues are resolved. My both daughters are going to Lily's Garden. One is in Kindergarten, another in pre-school. Putting them in the Lily's Garden was the best decision we've even made for our kids' education. My kids had been to a half dozen day care/pre schools. They are mom-and-pop and national chain. None of them come even close to the quality of teaching and caring Lily's Garden gave to my children. 1. The teaching quality is much higher than other pre-schools. Other mom mentioned it in these yelp reviews. 2. Both my girls are taking Chinese classes for few months. My older daughter practicing writing Chinese words every day and the younger one can understand a lot of basic Chinese words and sentence. Before Lily's Garden, they have no exposure to Chinese. 3. My older daughter takes art class here. Her paintings are amazing. My family members fight to get her paintings, so they can frame her art. 4. Lily's Garden doesn't let kids get away from bad behaviors. My kids get time-out whenever they do something bad. Yet, they love their teachers. They go out of their way to hug all the teachers when they leave school every day. My husband and I chat with the teachers and owner routinely. You can tell that they love children. They never tell you that but you can feel from how they interact with children. 5. Lily's Garden put two singing/dancing shows at Christmas and Graduation. They are well planed and choreographed. Every kid is in the performance. My kids absolutely love that! 6. Parents are awesome! We met a lot of parents through our kids. All of them are kind, helpful and reasonable. Some of the parents are becoming our friends and we are planning frequent play dates with them. One Monday morning, I was going to park on the street to drop off my kids. The owner came out to tell me not go because Monday morning is the street cleaning and cars parked on the street get parking ticket. He offered to take my daughters into school for me, so I don't have to wait for the parking. This is one of many examples how caring the owners are. If Lily's Garden has 1st grade, I'd let my older daughter to stay here. read more

My wife and I are both working professionals and wanted to make sure that our daughter has a safe, caring learning environment that she would enjoy. We decided to enroll our daughter (who is now 3, but was 2 1/2 at the time she was enrolled) at Lily's Garden after we heard a glowing recommendation from one of our friends. Lily's Garden has met and exceeded our expectations. The staff is wonderful, friendly and caring to everyone. They know every parent and child that walks through the door and greet them. The teachers are also very good and are able to make sure that the students have both an academic and fun experience. My daughter loves her homeroom teachers (as well as her other teachers). It may be helpful to give some insight as to the structure of the program, at least as best as I can articulate it. Every student has a homeroom class with two homeroom teachers. Students rotate throughout different classrooms during the day (and each day has a slightly different schedule), but one homeroom teacher will stay with the homeroom class throughout the day. Your child can also sign up for optional classes (our daughter is signed up for Chinese and Dance class, and she loves both of them). I was also impressed by how organized everything is at Lily's Garden. The facilities are clean and neat. During transitions between classrooms, the children line up in lines and follow their teachers to their next classroom. Lily's Garden also has a Christmas program performed by the children. Each class gives a choreographed dance performance during the program and parents are invited to watch. I have to admit I was very surprised and impressed that such small children could memorize and perform dance routines. I love this school!!!! Even before I had my son, I heard so many good reviews about this place from friends and family that I already knew that the day I have kids, they will go there for sure! My son was not even 3 when he started there and will stay till the end of K. The teachers are very professional and patient. This school is definitely excellent for academics. I am very impressed at how much my son is learning there. He was able to read at age 4. They also have a Chinese class and I am still amazed that he can recite a Confucius poem in Chinese. My daughter attended the kindergarten class at Lily's Garden. She did not attend the preschool. I found the kindergarten program to be exceptional. She entered the school not knowing how to read at all, and not knowing how to do math. The kindergarten curriculum is a first-grade curriculum at any other school. She can read at the first grade level, she can write in complete sentences, and she can do math. When I say math, I am talking about not just addition and subtraction, but actually word problems. As part of the math curriculum, the students are given word problems and then required to write a math problem to express the transaction that is being described. Amazingly, this is just one step short of algebra and something that I was not doing as a kid until around sixth grade. The students and teachers appear to be happy and like and respect each other. There are many extra-curricular activities available. I would recommend the school without hesitation. read more

I am a local physician with two kids. My four year old daughter attends Lily's Garden Preschool and Kindergarden, which I highly recommend to parents who want to offer their children a highly stimulating academic environment in a very supportive setting. The current owners purchased the school in 1992, and since then, the school has undergone major changes. The school's curriculum is very academic, including classes in math, phonics, science, social studies and Spanish. There are additional elective classes in Mandarin, art and dance. The school is divided into three class levels: preschool, pre-K and kindergarten. At the preschool level, the children begin a curriculum with introduction to the previously mentioned subject matter. Starting in the pre-K level, the curriculum is more advanced and the children are tested every 3-4 weeks to ensure that the teachers are adhering to the curriculum and that the childrens are learning appropriately. At the pre-K is also when the children are given simple homework assignments two days a week. At the kindergarten level, the children are tested weekly and given more homework. This may sound somewhat overwhelming, however, it is quite do-able for motivated parents and kids. Some of the children graduating from this school have gone on to skip the first grade and many have done very well in the local public schools. The children have two 30 minute playground breaks. The playground is one of the few certified playgrounds in the area. As a concerned parent, it find it comforting to know that the owners of the school are highly engaged with the teachers and the students and very responsive to parents. As with most good schools, there is a waiting list. I had to wait two years for my daughter to get into the preschool, but I am certainly glad I waited. Excellent school. My daughter was here for three years. The owner, staff, and teachers are caring and patient. I highly recommend it.

My daughter attended this school for two years and had a very positive experience. Its academic curriculum is rigorous without being overwhelming. Its teachers are very qualified, and even more important, very patient and loving, especially Ms. Aileen. As a result, my daughter developed tremendous confidence in reading, writing, and vocabulary. The school also has a very good administrator who constantly kept a watchful eye on all the people going in and out of the school to make sure that all our kids are safe. read more

My daughter enrolled in this school for her Pre-school years, and my son currently attending this preschool. As an educator, I want the best school for my kids. I found out about this Pre-school from my friends. I have to say I am very impressed with their curriculum for Pre-school through 1st Grade. They focus on reading, phonics, math, and science. Their teachers are highly skills. Their instructions have high demand on the students' cognitive level, and rigorous. As our nation transitions to Common Core, Lily's garden have been doing Common Core for many years. They use Singapore teaching strategies to lay the foundation of Mathematical concepts. They ask students to cite evidence from text that they've read. They allotted times for students to explore and learn. They do provide Spanish class and Chinese class. The kids learn different topics on different days. Now, my daughter is attending Kindergarten at our local public school and her reading level is above her grade level (level 4). Also, her math skills is above her grade level. This is the last year that my son will attend Lily's Garden. I highly recommend this establishment to any parents that are looking for a childcare center that integrate a curriculum and being successful with it. Stephen L. (below) saved me from much writing. I've had my two children at Lily's Garden for the past two and a half years and agree with all the points of Stephen's post. My wife and I are both public school teachers and are a bit hypersensitive to educational environments. The school is well organized, facilities properly maintained and stocked, plenty of curriculum materials (they use same full-range of texts as public schools, but a year ahead), teachers are highly trained and all staff demonstrate a caring and kind attitude towards every student. There is a good balance between rigorous academics, fun physical play, and artsy creative expression. Skipping all the technical details of school performance (which they pass with flying colors), I'll move to the most important indicator of a great school; the students are happy, the parents are happy to bring their children, and what makes it all work together, the staff is very happy with what they are accomplishing each year. I'm always thinking about how I would try to improve a situation, but I can't think of anything for Lily's Garden. As the 5 stars indicate, its as good as it gets! read more
