Logistics: - They're open till 6pm! - Little Sunshine is split into 3 classes based on age/readiness: Class A (3.5-5yo), Class B (3-4yo), and Class C (2-3yo). Classrooms have the appropriate mandated headcount (usually at least 2 teachers, plus admin staff who drop in as needed). - There's an optional lunch program. - Tuition is reasonable - parents can pay monthly or by number of expected days for upcoming month, and there are discounts for siblings. - They use the Brightwheel app to provide real-time updates, photos, and to communicate with parents throughout the day - Their Mandarin program is awesome (and no additional $$$). As a plus, there is also some Spanish taught in Class B and C (depending on teacher availability). - No nuts policy (helpful, because my son is allergic to peanuts). - Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your beliefs), the school is "Christian," which means the kids learn Bible songs (we're not Christian) and say a short grace at lunchtime. I for some reason wasn't aware of this until my son came home saying that his favorite song was "Jesus Loves Me." Outside of this, religion does not feature too heavily in the curriculum. Background: My son, who is about to turn 4yo, started here in May'24 in Class C at 2.5yo, moved to Class B at 3yo years, and then just "graduated" to Class A. Each of the three classes have wonderful teachers who are committed to teaching the kids and helping them grow at their own pace. In terms of curriculum, there's arts and crafts, physical play (playground outside), outside exploration (gardening, etc.), and classroom learning (counting, reading, singing, etc.). School supplies are included in tuition, and the teachers and administrators host fun events (i.e. a Mother's Day tea/breakfast, Easter egg hunts, Halloween Trick-or-Treat, Christmas celebration, or annual graduation) where the kids have activities or perform for the parents. The teachers seem to really drive the classroom curriculum, and they are all so skilled at thinking of creative activities for the kids. The only negatives are related to the administrators and management - they exhibit occasional off-putting behavior, and my impression is that they're somewhat disorganized in their communication with parents and cohesiveness with the teachers. A couple of examples: 1. The day that my son was to start daycare here, Director Sandy was wholly unprepared. We had been in communication the week prior and even had messaged the Friday prior to confirm that we were going to do drop-off for the first day of school and pay tuition via check. At drop-off, my son was screaming/bawling (because of course, it's his first day, and he was only 2.5yo). Sandy asked us if we can start the following week instead, because they apparently had another new student starting that day and "it would be hard." When I told her that was not possible, because we had work and other commitments, Sandy's reply to me was "I'm just thinking what's best for the kids." I was quite unhappy with this statement. Luckily, Denise was there and said that they would honor our agreement. But to even have this conversation was just ridiculously frustrating and tainted my initial impression of Little Sunshine and the Director. 2. When Bennett turned 3, he was held back for a month and a half in Class C. We wanted to move him to Class B alongside his friend whose birthday was the following month, but we were told that our son wasn't "ready". This was surprising to us, because he seemed ready academically and emotionally. Our understanding was that a transition would be easier if he didn't have to do it alone. After much back-and-forth with the teachers and admins, he moved to Class B a month after his friend moved. I suspect that the actual reason was that they didn't have space for an additional student in Class B (his friends' parents had asked about graduating to Class B two months earlier), and they had to wait until there was a space before they could move him. 3. Little Sunshine was closing for their annual teacher development day, which is awesome. What was not awesome was telling parents 7 business days before it was scheduled to occur, which is insufficient notice for parents to find other care arrangements for when school was closed. Enough parents were upset about this short notice and contacted Little Sunshine about it, so they moved it to the following week so that we could have a two week notice. My comment was that if this were an annual event, they would be more organized and have it scheduled/communicated earlier. Overall: The Little Sunshine community is strong - we all want the best for our kids, and I really believe that it is the best in the area. It's not merely a daycare - it's a preschool where the kids learn so much and make friends. My son loves going to school so much now and gets so excited at drop-off that he occasionally forgets to give me a goodbye hug and kiss! read more

The review is based off the tour I had. I was initially drawn to this preschool because of their bilingual program, which led me to schedule a tour. The manager was very nice and friendly, providing detailed information before we toured the classrooms. However, during our conversation outside the classrooms, the director unexpectedly came out from one of the rooms and poured water from her thermos onto the floor--without introducing herself. I found this quite awkward. Even if someone is used to doing this elsewhere, it's not appropriate to do it in front of prospective parents. There were three classrooms, but they were not the cleanest and seemed generally disorganized. I also noticed that the teachers allowed the children to watch TV before naptime, which I am honestly not a fan of. At the end of the tour, the director finally came out to introduce herself, and something awkward happened. I was holding two pamphlets--one originally given to me and one to my husband. The director took one pamphlet from me and began giving me more information, then spoke to the manager in Mandarin about why I was given two pamphlets instead of one. (I understood perfectly well, though she probably thought I wouldn't.) She then took one pamphlet away from me. One pamphlet is just a piece of paper--so taking one away felt unnecessary. I found this both weird and funny. It's odd to behave this way in front of parents. How much does a pamphlet really cost? To me, this behavior seemed rude and frugal. No matter how great the teachers are (which the director kept emphasizing), at such a young age, I want my child to learn respect and politeness first--academic skills come after. Little things matter. If the director herself struggles to exhibit proper manners, it's a definite no for me. read more

The Little sunshine has been our kids home away from home. We love the little sunshine when we sent our first boy here for a year before he started kindergarten. We saw an improvement in his social, art, writing and Chinese. Our second has now started Little sunshine with class C and we love it. I've been brainstorming for about three months to find the right words to describe what I feel is the impact that this pre-school has had to my 2-year-old daughter. It feels like a disservice to say that this place is a hidden gem, because that doesn't fully capture the essence of Little Sunshine Preschool. One would expect that things with higher cost provide higher value, but the anomaly here is the high value that this place offers compared to the relative average child care cost in Los Angeles. I remember the first day that my wife and I met Director He; mind you, that I read all of the Yelp reviews prior to booking the appointment. Other Yelp reviewers used adjectives like "gracious", "supportive", and "caring." While the initial meeting was informative and many details were exchanged, the one thing that I sensed right away was that every staff member knew effective classroom management. I've not had any issues here, which reinforces my idea that, "They know what they are doing." The Mandarin immersion program here (as part of their program and not an add-on $$) is amazing. Actually, it is a superbly advantageous curriculum especially with a lot of Mandarin Dual Language Immersion programs in the elementary schools within the city. Not even three months have gone by in Class C, and my daughter is singing Chinese songs like Ni Wawa (Mud Doll), Yueliang daibiao wode xin (The Moon Represents My Heart), etc while I am driving her to her extracurriculars. She knows how to address all the family members in Chinese, which surprised me. Through the Brightwheels app, I see them practice counting uno a diez, naming parts of the face in Mandarin, and singing. The one memorable thing here, is that each student has their 3rd Birthday in Class C celebrated; their parent(s) bring lunch and/or cake for the entire class, and the staff here really put in the effort to make them special occasions. I once had to pick up my daughter early, I remember seeing the toddlers all sitting in a table eating cake with a huge grin on their face; Class C is a lot of fun. I think to summarize, the effective classroom management of the staff is the gold standard here. The Mandarin and Spanish lessons are efficacious. read more

My daughter has been in Little Sunshine since she was 2.5, and she will be graduating from this school this summer. She started as a non-English speaker to now a multi-lingual speaker. The school taught her English, Chinese, and Spanish. The school is her second home. Teachers have good relationship with parents, and very accommodating. My daughter has great development both academically and emotionally, and the teachers prepare her for kindergarten this upcoming school year. I also love the apps they are using, so that I can get pictures and videos of her daily activities at school. I also share the apps with her grandparents, so that they can see her all the time. read more

I have mixed emotions about this school and it's taken me a long time to decide to write a review. I am still giving a 5-star for the Mandarin immersion program at this school. All of the mandarin immersions teachers and assistants along with the director are so gracious. They were all very kind and patient. I have mixed emotions about the lead teacher because I read great reviews about Mr. Bo, but it seems as though he recently left the school. Our hopes of a lead teacher is one with patience, but energetic. Without going into details, the lead teacher's energy/vibes weren't exactly in line with our expectations. However, what didn't work for us doesn't mean it won't work for another family. Take a tour and meet the teachers and asks lots of questions to make sure your child will mesh. I must reiterate that the Mandarin immersion program/teachers here are amazing. It was such a difficult decision to part ways, but we do what's best for our children. Children in the Covid era need extra time and guidance. They are not perfect right out of the box. They didn't learn to sit still and listen to a teacher the entire day. Rather than alert parents what concerning issues, it would be great for a lead teacher to say..."yada yada lost focus but yada yada I tried this method as a solution." It felt like every couple days we were pulled aside like we the parents were bad kids. We want solutions and want to know what teachers are trying rather than just complaining. Mind you our child is pretty well behaved. Social but never disruptive. Price: pretty good deal considering your child will be learning an entirely new language. If your family cannot qualify for public preschool, then this program is a great deal. Parking: small parking lot, but there's also street parking Lunch: affordable Would I send my child there again if I had to do it again? Absolutely. However, I'd send my kiddo there beginning class A as infant/toddler, so by graduation into class C we wouldn't have to worry about basics like sitting still and listening to instructions. That way in class C, the lead teacher wouldn't need to work hard on teaching basics. It'll just be about babysitting and focusing on Mandarin immersion. Overall, a great program and a great option. You can't put a price on a second language. read more

Big changes since Mr Bo left as the school director. Everything was so great and then covid came in 2020. We pulled our children from school with all the intention to return. Mr Bo was so gracious and understanding. We tried to return in 2021 but unfortunately Mr Bo left and the new administrators were not as communicative with us. They kept pushing back our "assessment/test meeting" (3 times, once with my husband and twice with me). At this point we decided to search for another daycare. Therefore I had to remove 2 stars. My daughter went to Little Sunshine for about 1 year + . Due to Covid she didn't get to interact with many kids therefore she was always very shy and quite but Little sunshine made her feel right at home. She started in class B with Ms. Catherine and Ms. Olivia, whom she loved very much. Then was transferred to Class A with Ms. Vivian, Ms. Denise and Ms. Candice and grew lots of love for them as well. She learned English, Spanish and Chinese! She really enjoyed the activities they did. Teachers were easy to communicate with in all classes. I loved their app! My son has been in Little Sunshine for more than 2 years. He really enjoys staying here every day. The school provides bilingual education, and they provide Spanish class as well. My son can now speak both English and Chinese fluently, and also can speak some Spanish. They use an App to post photos and videos of the kids, which helps us to know my son's everyday's progress. We can see my son's happy face while he is learning knowledge during different activities and games. The teachers are very nice and willing to spend time to talk to us about my son's behavior. They offer one on one meeting opportunity with the teacher as well. It became an online meeting during the Covid. And it started to have the option to be online/ in person this year. The teachers are very accommodating. We had to send my son to the school very early one day. We talked to the teacher, and they were able to accommodate the early arrival. read more

I was hesitant at the beginning, but little sunshine has given me many surprises : 1. Very organize 2. It has an application called bright wheel which you can pay and get the receipt right away to claim dependent tax. Teachers/admins help to take a picture or a video every day. You can communicate very well through the application. 3. It has a free Chinese program and my daughter who is in Class A already knows how to speak at least 20 Chinese words and sing 2 Chinese songs. By the way, Lily garden or Alpha Shen would charge you. 4. The teachers are very well communicative and listen to your suggestions to the kid to work together. It didn't take long for her to get adjusted to preshool (her first one that she's ever attended), but I know that every kid is different for this part. They have a variety of lessons and crafts, including Chinese, which is beneficial if you want her to learn a little Chinese too. My child loves this school. She has attended this school for more than a year now. In the beginning, she had a little problem adopting, but the teachers were very patient and kept her accompanied most of the day. Now, my little one loves her school life very much. My family and my boy love this preschool. My son was a very shy and timid 4 yo boy when entering Little Sunshine a year ago (we kept him at home before that due to COVID). He was so shy and even afraid dealing with toddlers younger than himself at that time. Only after a few months, we saw tremedous changes in him, slowly he has turned into a confident and independent young boy. The teachers are very loving and caring, and yet are very firm when teaching the kids to obey rules. There were two events i remembered vividly, one was during the 2nd week my boy was crying non-stop (he was struggling to adapt to new environment), and teacher Vivian successfully helped him to transition himself to be ready in just a few days by showing him that he was no longer the younger boys that yell and cry like toddler because he can already use his words. Another event was my boy acccidently peed in his pant, and he wasn't ashamed or upset about it when i picked him up after school. This was surprising as he is a very sensitive boy. I believe this had to do with how the teachers have dealt with this incident, i.e. teachers must have been using very tender and kind words and ways rather than rebuking him. I think all the teachers are very loving, emphatehetic, patient and encouraging. The communication with class teacher and admin is excellent, and the pictures posted daily keep me informed (and entertained) of my son's progress and learning. The Mandarin and Spanich lessons are certainly bonus. My son comes home with big small smile on his face and also has been more well behaved and definitely more sociable since attending the preschool. I called and visited probably a dozen schools (including Bell Tower School and many highly rated ones) before I finally picked this one for my 2 year old daughter. We've been there since Nov 2018 and so far I'm loving it. I love it for a few reasons. 1) it is very strong in English-Chinese immersion early on and Chinese is probably spoken 70 % of the time when they are in 2-3 year class. A lot of the teachers are native Chinese speakers; and I truly believe language is best learnt when kids are young and learnt from native speakers. Chinese is such a hard language to master and learning to speak and write in Chinese is so much harder than learning English and Spanish. The teachers here are definitely helping my child speaking Chinese more fluently. 2) they separate kids with different age groups so older kids with better understanding of things don't get stuck with 2 year olds; 3) they use an app to update me regarding what my child is doing through out the day and I get a few pictures of my child in action as well; 4) they have a very affordable price. I strongly recommend this school because of its language strength. If you want your child to be bilingual in English and Chinese, this is the school to go! read more

My child is 2.5 years old and has been attending for 6 months. We chose Little Sunshine because I want my child to grow up bilingual in Chinese and English. I found that very few schools have bilingual capabilities that are also safe and teach emotional intelligence. Their model is play-based, which I wanted. The teachers know my son very well and know his personality and habits. They also help with potty training, which is wonderful. The food is a mix of western food, Chinese food and processed snacks. My child has been going here for a year now and is doing great! The Teachers did an amazing job making her feel welcome when she first started at the age of 3. She has since learned to sing and count in Chinese and her writing and cutting skills have improved. Teacher Denise, Olivia and Carol have made a major impact on our daughters everyday routine when we are not able to be with her. She loves going to school and looks forward to it daily. She recently had to move up to the bigger kids class and Teacher Bo (admin) accommodated her by implementing a half day schedule to slowly transition her. The Admin is very open about what is going on with any new policies or any new geographical situations that may arise. The app is my favorite as we get updates on what she had for lunch, how long her nap is and pics/ video of her playing or learning. I would recommend this preschool to friends and family. read more

Little Sunshine Preschool has been a wonderful place for my son. He started when he was only two years old. In past two and half years, I see the teachers being very patient and friendly, helping my son learning new things, and taking care of him when he needs something. I see improvements in my son and think he is well prepared for kindergarten. I also see improvement of this preschool after Teacher Bo Bo join the team. Our two kids attend Little Sunshine; one of them has just graduated over the summer and my younger one just started in the pre-K class ( Class A ). My younger one actually started in Class C, the toddler class. All the teachers and staff are supportive and caring to my kids. The school also provided great emotional and social skills and quality education. Class C had a lot of fun things and activities for my son; they helped my son potty train. Class B practiced fine motor skills and introduced music instruments & dance, and even taught Mandarin. Class A taught the kids writing and reading skills, social interaction between peers, and independence. Class A also taught Spanish. The school has helped my older son transition to kindergarten. My family and I love the school and my boys love their teachers. The staff and the teachers responded to our questions and concerns promptly. The school uses an app where the teachers would provide daily updates on the kids. The school has provided my husband and I, especially me, the trust we needed to be able to go to work and knowing that our kids are in good hands. read more

My daughter has been attending this preschool for a year. She has learned a lot ranging from social skills, English words, basic maths, and Chinese (Mandarin). The teachers there are very friendly and they do care about the students! Our child has been going here for about 2 years now, and it has been a very good experience over all. We like that the school is bilingual in English and Chinese, as our child would never have had the opportunity to learn Chinese at home, but now can speak, understand, and write it surprisingly well!
