Limestone Branch was the last of the craft distilleries we visited during our recent tour of the Bourbon Trail. We were not disappointed. As soon as we walked in, we were meet by Gina's friendship smile and were able to get in immediately for a tasting. Our guide Derrick took us out to show us where they age their Bourbons, and they were the only ones to offer us a cask tasting. At $5, their tasting was the best value of the tour, including the free tastings, and included the opportunity to sample one of two pre-release products, including a gin to be released later this week (I'm not a fan of good, but the first drinker in our party pronounced it excellent). I look forward to trying more of their products in the future, including their 100% malted rye, due out next summer. read more

I would highly recommend making Limestone Branch Distillery one of your stops on the Kentucky bourbon trail. This small distillery has all of the charm. Our tour guide did an amazing job explaining the rich history and process of making their signature bourbon and gin. I brought a group in for the tour and tasting and it was cool to see how each person responded to the different flavors. I enjoyed Minor Case the most while others enjoyed Yellowstone more. We were all surprised by the wonderful flavors in their signature gin. I would also recommend checking out the gift shop. I bought the Drunkin Pumpkin Yellowstone soy candle and it is my new all time favorite! I will be going back soon to get Christmas gifts. Check them out! read more

We had a tour with Blake, and in truth I think he made the tour. It's a small and intimate distillery and the tasting is very interactive. Even as a non-bourbon drinker it was a very enjoyable experience. The bourbon drinkers in the group appreciated the detailed descriptions of all the samples. My best friend and I planned a trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail for her birthday. We did our research and decided to do the KBT passport for the major distilleries. There is, however, also a craft distillery option, and Limestone Branch caught our eye, so they were a must-visit on our adventures. Well, let me just say that Limestone Branch could have been our one and done spot! We had such an awesome experience! From the moment we arrived, a tour was starting and we were invited right in! Stephen, Executive Bourbon Steward, gives one heck of an entertaining AND, more importantly, informative tour. The history in which Limestone Branch is steeped is really quite fascinating. Okay, okay... I know you want to know about the whiskeys. They have something for every palate! Truly! From sugar shines (including a variety of Moon Pie flavors, to name a few, small batch, single barrels - they have it all! Their Precinct No. 6 Small Batch is my favorite and - don't tell Mr. Steve Beam - but it is actually quite reminiscent of Scotch (and a darn good one, to boot!) Of note, though everything we tried was excellent, is Minor's Revenge - which also has a great story behind the name. As a mixed drink, they recommend adding Ale8 (ginger ale). That was quite tasty, too! They also have a pretty nice gift shop. Oh, and how could I forget their distillery dog?! Their products verge on VERY sweet, so if that's not your thing you probably won't enjoy your visit here. However, I thought they at least were taking a very fun risk and approach to moonshine so I really enjoyed our visit. Definitely a good location to add onto your itinerary if you are planning to go to other spots in the area. We didn't do a tour since we were limited on time, but we did a tasting and got to hear a lot of their history. Everyone who works there is SO nice. They made us feel instantly welcome which really made this a 5 star experience. We ended up buying their apple/cinnamon bottle since it is really good. Imagine apple pie in liquid form. Do you love moonpies? Do you love moonshine? Then Limestone Branch is the distillery for you! Currently, it is a very small operation, but I believe that they have plans for expansion. We stopped in for a tour after visiting Maker's Mark. Limestone Branch is only about 10-15 away and 100% worth the trip! When we walked in, we were greeted enthusiastically by the gentleman working. He gave us and the other two visitors a brief tour of their small distilling operation. He was having a great time and the high-energy rubbed off on us! We all had a blast! After the tour, we were treated to a tasting. They have 9 or 10 different things to sample. They have their own small batch bourbon along with their sugar shine. It isn't my favorite, but it is great to add to their selections! My favorite, of course is the MoonPie Moonshine (the vanilla flavor), followed closely by the chocolate MoonPie flavor. They have several fruity favors, as well as their unflavored moonshine, and if you are feeling adventurous or are looking for something to spice up your Bloody Mary...they have a jalapeño flavor! I highly encourage you to pay them a visit! And they are now on the "craft bourbon trail", so you can begin getting your stamps in your bourbon passport. read more

Cool little distillery on the Craft Bourbon Trail. We were the only ones there at the time, so we got a private tour from the two distillers, which was really cool. We also got each four tastes of their different moonshines, which we enjoyed. My favorite were the Jalapeno moonshine and the Cherry moonshine. I loved that it wasn't very sweet, because they use the real fruit and not syrups to make it. If you're in the area, stop by and pay them a visit. read more

If you are checking out Whiskey Row, make sure to give this craft place a try as well! This place was great for so many reasons. We stopped here at a good time, and the guy that was working was willing to give us a back room tour. I don't know if that is normally offered but it was great to learn about how they make their moonshine and sugar shine. The man that was explaining everything to us had great energy and was very engaging. After the unexpected tour, we had our tasting. 4 samples, about half a shot each. The woman doing the tasting for us was great, super friendly and just chatted with my sister and I about stuff and things of all sorts. My sister and I walked out with an ample supply of delicious Moonpie Moonshine (the vanilla and the chocolate are the BEST EVER) and Sugar shine. read more

I've done a dozen brewery tours and quite a few distillery tours. This is one of the very best. Limestone Branch makes moonshine. It was great to see the process and to see a very small scale operation. I never would have thought to see the mash made without heating in oak barrels. The distiller was very generous with his time and we also spent time talking to another very knowledgeable staffer who did a good job of answering questions from three chemists. Not only that, but its a good product. The sugar shine and the slightly aged sugar shine were better than some whiskeys I've had, and had a good and distinctive flavor. The mash is made without heating in oak barrels. I liked learning the history of the owners and all of the heritage and family ties to the Beams. Stopped at this distillery as part of a bachelor party bourbon trail tour. Wow what a great spot! From the moment we arrived the staff here were amazing hosts, beautiful catering laid out for us and some gorgeous cocktails, I got the Kentucky mule (bourbon and ginger ale) and tried the old fashioned. Both amazing! A great history tour from our hilarious guide Stephen F of this small distillery's past having everyone laughing whilst picking up some sweet bourbon knowledge, including a brilliant bourbon tasting! My buddies and I had a guys bourbon weekend in Kentucky. While Limestone Branch was not on our radar in terms of places we wanted to visit, once we drove away, we knew it was our favorite. Gina the visitor center manager, was a wealth of knowledge, a sweetheart and very accommodating. It felt as though we were visiting her home, with how hospitable she was. Derick was amazing as he toured us on the ways in which to make bourbon and he was a rock star. The bourbons were bar none the best we had all throughout Kentucky, and what made it even better was the hospitality. We even got to meet Steve Beam and he was nice enough to take pictures with us and sign our bottles. Limestone is certainly on our hit list when we come back to Kentucky because of Gina, Derick and Steve! It was our last stop on the trail and it was worth the wait. Our favorite bourbon prior to this trip was 2018 Yellowstone Limited Edition. We had purchased 3 bottles of 2016 in error prior to the trip and sent them back to where we purchased them from because we had never tried them. We now wish we had kept them. 2016 is our new favorite. We were happy we could do a $10 tasting without the tour! Veterans are free too, which is a nice touch. We were able to try 5 of their selections. Justin behind the bar wasn't able to tell us much. He couldn't answer any of our questions and I am not sure he wanted to. This is a neat, relatively new, little distillery. I was interested in coming here mainly because they made the moonpie moonshine, which I love. We got there and were the only people there for a good while, so we got a nice long history lesson of bourbon in the area and all the families and co-mingling of all the different distilling families many years ago. Some more people arrived and they took us all to the back to see the stilling area, which was very small. And again, we got a nice detailed history of how bourbon distilling has evolved. Afterwards, we got to taste their bourbon and several of their flavor infused liquors. read more

Of all the distilleries on the Bourbon Trail, this one has the friendliest staff, hands down. It may not be on your radar because it's not one of the "big" distilleries, but this place is worth a stop. The history involved is fascinating, and Stephen gives the most passionate and fun tour/tasting of any of the distilleries. What you'll find here is Yellowstone Bourbon, Precinct 6, Sugar Shine (trust me, try the jalapeno), and Limestone Branch Bourbon. Make sure you pet the distillery dog before you leave. Limestone Branch Distillery was our find of our trip. It was recommended to us when we were at another distillery and we found that they had a tour open the next day. We arrived a bit early and were greeted warmly by the staff. Sam Smith was an awesome brand ambassador for all their products. We were shown the history of their product as well as the process of making their delicious product. The best part was the sampling. So many delicious flavors. We are truely a fan of their products now. We purchased some of their specialty products that you can't get in the store to take home. They took all the standard precautions one would expect with COVID and we felt safe and comfortable. My only suggestion is for them to open an online store. We would like to purchase items we saw in the gift store but didn't have room for. read more
