This is a hard post to write because it is such an odd mix of things. We camped here 3 nights and…read morehad a huge issue with our sites that we reserved. Site 29 is a nightmare to get a camper in. There is a drop off and alot of trees. It is doable but takes a lot of navigation and tree spotters. However we decided not to use it because if someone took the lot across the narrow road it would be a nightmare to get out. So we switched sites. The problem with that was not being able to get ahold of anyone who could switch our sites and the worry of moving and taking a site that is reserved is scary. So we changed our reservations to confirm we could have the sites. That is the ONLY way to do anything if an attendant isn't here. And we only saw one in 3 days for a few hours. Most of the lots are extreme grade so be aware. Also take extra cord and hoses. Not many sites have water or electric within 25 feet from your camper. Some of the electric and hose hookups are running near fire pits or weird places. They are shared also with the camper next to you. We were lucky to be camping with another couple so we could use their fire pit instead of ours which was littered with both hoses and cords. We saw many people come in and laugh about how the site was deceiving online with what you could fit. Especially with all the trees and drop offs. So they switched and I guess one got mad and just left. 33-28 have the steepest dropoffs near the back of the pad. 29 looks long enough to get a camper in but it is tricky with trees and a dropoff before the pad. This is one we originally had. 28 is just weird with a steep dropoff and sometimes water in the creek that you run electric through. 31 & 36 have the fire pit near the electric and water. But 36 is pull through. 3 is pull through and does not share water or electric but is on the corner. It sounds like a lot of complaining so 4 stars? Well it's nice once you find a spot. Bathrooms are clean and everyone camping here is super friendly. We would come back but we are prepared now and know what sites to pick for next trip. So, yes we would come back. But if you would have asked us the 1st night we would have told you we would never come back because it was hard to get it all straightened out. Which is why I am writing this long review. So ya'all know what to be prepared for.

We love this camp ground. It's a hidden gem off of 127 in Frankfort. Just minutes from the capital…read morebuilding and Buffalo Trace Distillery. It's nestled back into nature and right on the Kentucky River of course. We are full timers and have been living here for 4 months and we are going to be sad to leave. The campground is filled with everything you need. There's an awesome common room with tables a fridge stove TV/Cable also A WiFi Cafe (just ask for password) and laundry room. So many things all there for your use. There's also an awesome men's and womens restroom that they just redid the floors in and are now painting! Two showers each is very convenient. If you want a fire pit by your camper just ask! Most people here have their own. You may not be parked on the river. But it's just. Short walk and benches are available for enjoying the views. It's a very short walk to the water from anywhere in the camp. Most of the campers here are share holders and only come for the weekends so during the week it's very quite and relaxing. Many weekends there have been live bands and so many other fun activities going on! Every is usually friendly and polite. Don't forget to wave at your neighbors! Charles, Rus, and another gentleman (sorry I forgot your name) do an amazing job to accommodate you during your stay and work hard to make the campground what it is. Don't forget the office where you'll check in and such has items available for sale from sweets to t shirts.

Campsites were close, but still had ample room to socialize. Grounds were well maintained. Nice, quiet, and peaceful location for a quick stay or extended trip. Would definitely return. Most impressed with all the staff and campers that made us feel like family. Since we were without a truck for 6 days, we were offered rides, food or anything we needed. One long term camper, Chuck offered us his truck for the day! In traveling, you don't always look at the physical amenities a place has to offer, but the personal connection that the "camping family" provides. Thanks Angie, Russ, Chuck, Kelly, Bryan and all. While our truck was delivered back to us, the kitchen slide broke (on our new camper) . Sadly, our long awaited trip to Maine was cancelled as we had to return home. Still waiting for repairs.

Being a lone female traveler, I have always felt safe here. I have been here for a year. The owners are literally the best!!! They closely monitor the premises. The entrance and exit are gated. And there are security cameras all around the park. The park is family owned and the owners live on site. The park is very clean and very well maintained. It's the best little hidden gem in the country on Herrington lake and above the marina and restaurant. There are also several other marinas with restaurants nearby. I would definitely recommend Chimney Rock RV Park, and I would definitely stay here again!

It's absolutely beautiful, and Bardstown is no exception. The downtown area is so cute! It's lined with shops, bars, and restaurants, and it's extremely walkable. It's a great place to visit for a day trip. There's plenty to do, and because it's small, it can all be done in a day or weekend, so you won't feel like you're missing anything. Outside of the downtown area you'll still find lots of fun stuff to experience, like My Old Kentucky Home State Park, multiple museums, historic sites, and of course - distilleries! If you're looking for a fun place to visit, the city of Bardstown is a great one!

This was my favorite campground so far. I know, I say that every time. What I loved so much about…read morethis one was the view of the lake. Some of the sites were literally steps away from Nolin River Lake. The lake itself is small, but don't let that fool you, it's gorgeous. We decided to go here the Monday before the weekend and there were several lakeside spots available, but by the time we pulled the trigger and actually booked, two days later there weren't any lakeside sites available. We still booked site B6, which was about 6 spots uphill, away from the lake. We still had a distant view of the lake, but the sites in between were a bit annoying. People need to learn camping etiquette... don't walk through people's sites as shortcuts, it's rude. That's not really the fault of the campground though, but speaking of rude... the camp host was a grumpy asshole. The wife wasn't so much, but dude needs to go retire... somewhere up north. I ask questions to figure things out... and here's what I found out: cancellations are no penalty within 24 hours, so those spots that weren't available on Wednesday, were suddenly available on Friday. Too bad we were already set up on Thursday night. Again, rude people! There isn't the usual reservation fee, like there is at other campgrounds. This campground is government run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District... what that exactly means or what difference it is from State Parks, I'm not exactly sure. Many of the sites were shaded, mostly by pine trees. There was only one concrete pad though, the rest were gravel. Friday we were one of the only ones there at the campground, so we explored, walked down one of the secluded primitive sites and cast our fishing poles. I also loved that they have a late check out. Not all of the campers took advantage of that, so we were one of the only ones left around noon on Sunday, checkout day. There are several other campgrounds in the area, including Wax and Nolin River State Park campgrounds. We drove around those campgrounds, and they too had gorgeous sites. If you've not been to Nolin River Lake and like to boat or camp, I highly recommend planning a trip to the Cub Run area.

It has electric/water sites and primitive camping sites. On our last day there, Mr Brown actually came to our camp site multiple times to assist us with getting a camping pass for my disabled husband. They went above and beyond to make sure that our stay at the camp ground was nothing less than perfect. I hope to see them back again next year, as we will be returning. Thanks again Mr and Mrs Brown!!!

I used to come to Otter Creek when I was younger and it is such a beautiful area, but it has not…read morebeen well maintained as of recent. I came to hike last weekend and opted for the valley overlook trail. It seemed as though no one had hiked it in weeks with how many cob webs I walked through lol. It was EXTREMELY overgrown to the point that I stopped and considered just going back instead of finishing the loop multiple times. There were a good amount of trees that I had to climb over/under as well. I was wearing leggings and long socks (on me for not wearing a better material, but I got these leaves stuck all over my legs and now have chigger bites everywhere after wading through an overgrown field. Safe to say I won't be back anytime soon.

We also did a partial loop that connected with the forest giant trail. The visitor center and café are well kept and clean. They have really great variety in their offerings. I got the first giant cookie from the café, it is delicious!! Already planning another trip! Looking forward to doing more trails and spending more time exploring these beautiful grounds!

I loved my visit to Bernheim Forest! I can't believe how long it took for me to visit…read more I visited on a sunny, 75 degree, Saturday afternoon. There was a good amount of people but it didn't feel crowded. There first stop was a little gift shop with and information desk, snack bar, and bathrooms. From there the trail to the forest giants was super easy to follow. After walking to the giants, I drove the path to see the Tin Man and canopy walks. I love how accessible all the big attractions were and how beautiful the forests are. It's worth stopping in if you're visiting the area or a local!
