    Inside the cave.
    Willow L.

This makes a great day-trip. Not a hugely touristy area, which is nice. Decent gift shop for those who like gift shops. There are actually two caves you go through. First is the larger, then the smaller. The guide gives a lot of general cave information as well as information specific to that cave. Lots of history and unique facts about cave formations. The caves are lit, but dimly and only in the area your group is in. Lights are turned off after each section, otherwise algae can grow. It's not for those unsteady on their feet. There are some stairs, and they're uneven in height and width. Handrails are in place, but don't rely too heavily on them. You may have to duck a few times to get through. One section, which is optional, you have to shimmy through side-ways. Larger people wouldn't be able to get through. This cave doesn't have large, magnificent rooms, although a couple of spots were more open and fairly impressive. This would be a good tour for older kids, it's not too long but certainly interesting. Younger kids, not so much. I'd recommend planning to be there about 2 hours. The actual cave tours last about an hour total.

Approximately the amount of rocks you get from mining.

We went to Lincoln Caverns when we were on vacation in Pennsylvania. We went on a tour that was about one hour. The guide was very knowledgeable about the caverns and did not seem to be in a rush when we got there. The whole facility is very clean and well maintained. There are two options for kids. You could just do a tour of the caverns or you could add panning for gems for $5. We chose to pan for gems. We were happy that we did. It is a good experience and you get a lot more gems than you expect.

Located in Centre County, PA (which apparently has over 130 caves!), this unique tour takes you through a beautiful limestone cavern entirely by boat. The cave tour lasts about 45 minutes and costs $25 per person. They also offer a wildlife tour by bus, but we only had time for the cave portion. Be aware there's a fairly large staircase you'll need to go down to reach the cave entrance. Something to keep in mind if anyone in your group has mobility issues. Each boat holds around 22 people, but we visited on a quiet Monday afternoon and only had 8 in our group, which made it feel more personal. Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable, engaging, and had a sense of humor. He encouraged questions and had thoughtful answers for everything we threw at him. At the end of the cave, you actually exit into a small lake, take a brief spin around, and then head back through the cave to where you started, very cool and peaceful. There's also a gift shop on-site that sells snacks, drinks, and the usual souvenirs. Tours typically depart every 30 to 60 minutes depending on how busy they are, so timing is pretty flexible. All in all, it's a fun, unique experience that's well worth the stop!

I'm docking a star for one very specific reason -- they advertised a Halloween costume contest with every train departure and then... just didn't do it. Like, poof. Gone. No announcement, no explanation, no spooky spirit. Just me in a full Halloween costume wondering what in the Great Pumpkin was going on. Let me back up. I had to cancel my original trip a few weeks before because of a family emergency. Their staff was super helpful, issued me a gift card, and made rebooking easy. Total gold stars for that. I ended up rebooking on the last day of the Pumpkin Patch Express, and even splurged for seats in the caboose (because who doesn't want to pretend they're in a vintage movie for a day?). It was $65.32 for two adults, and honestly worth it for the unique view alone. The Orbisonia Station was clean, festive, and well-run. Fall décor everywhere, the kind of stuff Pinterest dreams are made of. The train ride? Perfectly timed -- long enough to enjoy the scenery, short enough that I didn't start questioning my life choices or wishing for snacks. When we arrived at the pumpkin patch, it was like stepping into autumn heaven: games, bounce house, mini-golf, food trucks, firepits, and plenty of pumpkins. The whole setup was great -- even the port-a-johns were clean (which is the real fall miracle here, let's be honest). We hit the food trucks first (pro tip!) and scored seats in the sunshine next to a firepit. I devoured my lunch, soaked up the view, and might've gotten a little competitive playing mini-golf -- nailed the final hole in one and absolutely celebrated like I'd just won the Masters. Now... back to that nonexistent costume contest. Picture me: all decked out, fully committed, ready to strut my spooky self for glory. I walk up to the counter, big smile, ready to ask where the contest will be -- and a rather grumpy man behind the desk hits me with a "Yeah, we're not doing that anymore." No apology, no explanation, no nothing. Just crushed dreams and a ticket in hand. Sir. I have read your Facebook event posts. All. Of. Them. You promised me a costume contest. You got me excited. And you're telling me this now? On the platform? In my Halloween costume? I'll admit it -- I was bummed. Like, "eat extra candy corn later to cope" bummed. But I wore my costume proudly anyway (as did my adventure buddy and a few other brave souls), made my own fun, and still had a great time. Though I definitely whined about it the entire train ride back. My poor adventure companion earned a medal that day. So yeah, East Broad Top -- the train, the views, the pumpkin patch setup -- all awesome. But if you're going to advertise something, please follow through. Some of us plan our entire fall outfit strategy around these things, okay? Still, I can't stay too mad. I had a blast, the caboose ride was a dream, and it's a memory I'll be laughing about for a long time. Just...maybe next year, they can keep their event promises or update their marketing so folks know what to expect? Less ghosting on the costume contest and more ghost costumes, deal?

Each year, I try to find something unique vs just a thing that he wouldn't use. It's an easy drive from DC, and the town of Frostburg is so adorable. We have two 5 year olds, and the staff was very friendly and explained how the tour would be structured. My kids just loved pushing the pedals and seeing the scenery pass by. For this first outing, I ended up booking one of the shorter tours, going with the Woodcock Hollow Express. It was the perfect option, especially with younger kids. It was entertaining enough, without them getting bored. It's one way, and man, our car went fast! I sat in the back, while my partner sat in the front of the car. It takes coordination on braking, which he clearly needed some work with! But we did manage to slow down before hitting the other guests riding in front of us. Once you reach the end of the track, the tour has a bus waiting, which will transport you back to the train station. The driver gave us some great tips and history as we rode the 15-20 minute ride back. Overall, a fantastic experience. I would totally do it again and try one of their other longer tours, especially as our kids get older.

We went on a Saturday..got there around 3pm and left at 5pm. We barely ran into anyone while exploring..which was great. 2hrs was obviously not enough time. It's dark and there isn't power..so using the iPad to check out is a pain for them. They give you the rules and what not to do..where to stay out of..and they let you explore all on your own. We literally had so much fun. Make sure to bring plenty of flashlights and warm clothes if you're going during that winter season like we did. There are tunles that run from building to building..awesome! The chapel is incredible, the cell housing areas are just as cool..just so many things..the prison barber school..the cobbler shop. So many nooks and crannies. We learned theyll have overnight explorations in the spring/summer/fall in 2023. There will be a hydroponics building as well. The place is just spectacular, and the drive to keep this place open for people to come see history and not let it wither away is amazing. Thank you! Truly appreciate places like this. Please don't leave trash and break things here and ruin it for people who have an appreciation for places like this.

I was very happy with my son in law's recommendation. My son in law recommended the value pack of tickets and it was well worth the price. I believe it was 62.50 per person. That entitled us to the battlefield tour in an air conditioned bus, and visits to three other tours-museums. I thought the price was great. Paul Bausermann was our tour guide and in a word- PHENOMENAL!! He was likable, entertaining, engaging, incredibly smart, had a great sense of humor and his timing was impeccable. I don't think anyone could hold a candle to his enthusiasm, vigor, and story telling. I learned so much about cannons, the battle, and those who fought. So many interesting facts- interesting that The Military Academy used to have seniors spend three weeks on the battlefield in order to graduate. Now they don't- what a stupid decision on their part!! Unfortunately I can't recall the name of our bus driver but he was excellent too! He did walk with a crutch and looked ultra professional in uniform- thank you!! He had been a driver for I think he said 50 years or so starting in the 1970's. They made a great team!!! As someone in the safety department, I appreciated his very safe driving! It's not easy maneuvering a bus that size into parking areas or along the road, but he made it seem pretty easy. I highly recommend this touring company. They are wonderful. I especially appreciate the abundant FREE parking!! It is nothing like the mess we have in Jim Thorpe, the money grab, congestion and parking nightmares in Jim Thorpe thankfully are not the case in lovely Gettysburg. I would definitely go on another tour with this company. They don't ask for tips but please do tip if you enjoyed the tour- I tipped both and they really appreciated it. These guides are highly trained and specialized and insanely knowledgeable- we had excellent discussion and so much in depth learning about the battlefield as we trotted along. The carriage is Victorian style and very comfortable- and ours was pulled by two gorgeous Percheron mares, Kate and Trina - sisters!! They were so beautiful and so sweet! Sarah and Bogey (sp??) were our our drivers and they were so great to the horses and very skilled at handling anything that came up. Our guide was Chris and he was just incredible- I'd be shocked if there was anything he didn't know about Gettysburg lol!! Even his ancestors were part of the battle! Not only did he provide tons of info about the ins and outs of the battle, but he also dropped fun little pearls of trivia along the way - things like how the shapes of certain monument bases have different meanings and how the "avenues" were put in for tourists lol!! The guides have to pass a rigorous learning/testing regime to even be able to do the tours so you know they know their stuff! The tour is totally fun - but also treated with the utmost respect for the gravity of the subject - so many lives lost - such a tragic and heavy piece of history. I strongly urge anyone to take a guided tour on your visit - interacting with such knowledgeable guides really helps get a better understanding of the battle and the core issues etc. The tour starts in town at the Gettysburg Heritage Center - very easy to find and plenty of parking. They pick you up in the carriage right out front and off you go! The tour lasts around 2 hours and they let you interact with the horses afterwards if you want! Can't recommend it enough!!
