Yeah, probably shouldn't have been driving. Or taking pictures. :)

Ha! Never thought I'd be reviewing a rest area but here goes. Despite 45 mph winds, snow and a long walk in heels (no I wasn't really prepared for this), I made a stop at this monument of President Abraham Lincoln's head. This spot marks the top of the summit 11 miles east of Laramie, which is the HIGHEST point on I-80 in the country. Lincoln's head was built by Wyoming's Parks Commission to honor Lincoln's 150th birthday. It was sculpted by Robert Russin, a University of Wyoming art professor and a Lincoln fan (When he died in 2007, his ashes were interred in the hollow monument). It originally stood at Sherman Summit, 8,878 feet above sea level, the highest point along the old coast-to-coast Lincoln Highway. When I-80 was completed in 1969, the head was moved here. The bronze head weighs over two tons and is 13.5 feet tall. It's perched atop a 30-foot granite pedestal. The monument commemorates the Lincoln Highway, America's first transcontinental automobile road. I wish the weather would have been nicer. There was so much snow and ice and it was so cold, I almost didn't push through. But it's a nice oddity to add to my belt of oddities. :) It's a nice rest stop at least, great place to stretch if you need to.

Excellent rest area with ample parking, sitting areas and picnic tables. Was worth stopping to see the Lincoln monument.

The hotel is nice inside with a dining area, seating area, and small market. Of course, the hotel practices social distance and follows other Covid-19 safeguards. Masks are required at all times when on property. This hotel is conveniently located near many restaurants and shops. There's a car dealership across the street and on days that I was too tired to drive anywhere for a meal, I found so many cool places to eat in the neighboring parking lot within walking distance. I had a standard room and it was clean and modern-looking. I had no complaints about it. Due to Covid, they don't offer daily housekeeping. If you want service, you have to request it. There is a restaurant inside the hotel and it serves breakfast and dinner. Everything is cook-to-order now due to Covid of course. I like to get the omelettes. They were very tasty and the hash browns were crispy and not soggy like some restaurants. Dinner here is really, really good. I had dinner 3 times this week because of the snowy weather. I ordered the steak on one night, and the shrimp pasta twice. If you happen to be here during the week that they serve beef minestrone soup, do yourself a favor and order it. OMG, it was so yummy. The Creme brûlée and flourless chocolate cake were awesome. If you are in town, stay here.
