The campground is small but charming, nestled between Calistoga and Saint Helena -- a true hidden gem. We've driven by this park so many times on our way to Calistoga. Finally got to check it out and experience it. It's surrounded trees and the soothing sounds of a creek , offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby towns. Trails and even a swimming pool that's open on the weekends. The park is well-maintained, with clean bathrooms and a great atmosphere. It was our first time using the rooftop tent, and this spot couldn't have been more ideal. We're already planning to come back and explore more of the park!

Bothe-Napa is a California State park right outside of St. Helena ($10 day entry) with fern covered…read morehiking paths and a nice campground, with campsites, cabins and yurts to rent, but also, unfortunately with prolific amounts of poison oak everywhere. The hike though the redwoods (Redwood Trail and Richie Canyon) is well shaded and requires that you traverse a bubbling, active creek with wet stones to do the entire loop. The creek was still active in early summer, with small waterfalls and slippery stones in the creek bed. Fine for a regular hiker with great balance (and water shoes), but difficult for those with physical limitations or who can't afford a fall on slippery surfaces. It's a beautiful setting here, but with so much poison oak right off the path, and past experience with the rough side of poison oak, we opted to tread carefully. Come early in the day for a cooler hike, and try to stick to the trail so that you don't accidentally rub up on potential dangers, and leave this park with more than you'd intended.

Whatevs, let's make the most out of it. I looked up trails in the area and found this place. To reach the southern trailhead, we entered Oak Shores Park, turned left and followed signs to the northern-most parking lot at Coyote Knolls. The trailhead was by the bulletin board which has a map of the trail. We were one of the only cars in the lot, but the water in the lake is still pretty low, even with all of the rain this past winter. This trail was listed as a 2.6 mile hike (5.2 out and back) and I would classify it as easy to moderate. Just a path along (what should be) the lake. Lots of oak trees, wildflowers and groves. But the water is really low, which is kind of a bummer. Plus, when I go hiking, I like to go see a waterfall or the ocean...not just grass and trees. I guess it would have been different if the lake did not look like a bathtub mid-drain, but oh well. Also, although they say there is a spot to picnic on the trail, all we saw were some very splintery-looking old picnic tables that we didn't let the kids get on. We ate our snacks standing up in what I imagine was at one point the lake bed. We ended up getting to about 2.5 miles in and decided to turn back to conserve energy for the little ones. At the end of the trail was just another parking lot from what we were told by the other party we saw out there yesterday. All in all, I don't think we will be making the drive out here to do this trail again. If you are in the area it might be something to work in, but I don't know about making a special trip.

It was about $14 each to enter, which was a little pricey for what we saw. You are able to do the entire space under an hour if you so wish. The people who work here are kind. There is a gift shop with both gifts and drinks. There were rudimentary women and mens restrooms. And plenty of free parking out front. You can check out the petrified woods up close. They also have a lot of informational plaques around.

It's about a mile total around the inner loop + the out and back for some additional scenery. It is a little hilly but not too bad, my 65 year old mother was able to walk the entirety of the loop. The petrified wood is pretty cool along with all of the lava stone and ash. The trees are pretty huge. It was $14 which I thought was a little steep for how much (or little) there was to see, but I don't regret going.

We decided to hike up the more intense trail and it was so worth it. There were quite a few others hiking as well and most people seem to respect it. Picking up their trash and making sure to leave it as it was before setting up their picnic spot. Net time I'm going to make sure to bring my on picnic. This time I only brought snacks and water to sustain me while hiking. I'm so blessed to live in an area that provides this wonderful piece of Mother Nature.

He knows the geography of this lake very well due to his frequent visits. He took us to all his regular spots. We hit the water at 7 am. It was overcast, water was clam like glass, no people around. Fishing was good, caught many by shore. The trouts were huge and hard fighters. So were the small mouth bass. Majority of our catches were large mouth bass. Note worthy was that I caught my largest fish ever. Cousin also caught his largest bass, 8.2 lbs. He released it cuz big lake fish tends to have tough meat. By 10am, the crowds arrived, lots of speed boats, also the winds blew away the clouds and created waves and splashes. I had a great successful fishing day.

Feels like you're in your lane that keeps going and going as you enjoy the beautiful marshes and water around you. Lots of cute ducks and some kayakers on the water, as well as some people on the edges of the trail. Will definitely make this trail one of my regulars for the holiday season.

In the center of Yountville, there's a pocket park located in between the French Laundry and…read moreBouchon. The park was named after Martha Van De Leur who served as teacher and principal at Yountville and Salvador Elementary Schools for 50 years. There's a plaque on a rock in the park describing the history of this park. It is a tranquil park with tall trees, a fountain in the middle with many pieces of art in it as it is part of the Yountville Art Walk. There are benches and two picnic tables in the park, where we've enjoyed picnic lunches and foods from the nearby bakeries in between our wine tastings. A nice park to chill, relax and enjoy the tranquility and artwork while in Yountville.
