He accepted this mess graciously and I paid him $700 for his services. This was on February 15th. Since then, I have followed up with him several times over a span of several weeks, with a CC to his assistant, and have either received assurance that my taxes would be completed prior to the due date or simply no response at all.  I took a leap by trusting someone that I came across on the internet with good reviews but as I sit here filled with anxiety, I'm realizing that was a huge error in judgement.  Learn from my mistake and don't simply trust the good reviews. Do your homework and maybe stick with the larger corporations where you know the work will get done. UPDATE based on John's response: The dates provided by John are correct, however, they do not excuse an Accountant hired to complete taxes prior to the April 18th deadline failing to file said taxes. John, check your emails and you will see that all information, including the information you asked for most recently, was absolutely completed and uploaded to Dropbox. The fact that you are accepting no blame for not responding to multiple requests from a client in addition to not filing taxes by the due date is appalling considering that it's exactly what you were hired for. Regardless to any amount of refund, you didn't alert me to this until April 21st, three days after taxes were due and I had already told you that I was taking my services elsewhere. As mentioned in my final email to you, I strongly advise assessing your workload prior to accepting new clients. You knew exactly what you were agreeing to 2 months prior to the tax deadline and assured me that my taxes would be filed. Lastly, for anyone who has read this far. I am attaching a copy of John's list of excuses as to why the taxes weren't filed on time.

The initial conversation went very well. Kyle came across as knowledgeable, professional, and confident. He took the time to discuss my brother's tax situation, explained a clear game plan, requested the necessary documents, and assured him that he would take care of the work. Based on those conversations, there was every reason to believe the tax returns were moving forward. Then the communication changed. I personally saw the text conversations where Kyle repeatedly made commitments such as, "I'll call you today," "I'll get your returns 100% completed tomorrow," and "Tomorrow I'll e-file your returns." After those commitments were made, my brother spent weeks sending follow-up texts and making phone calls simply trying to get updates, with little to no response. If there were legitimate IRS, documentation, or compliance concerns preventing the returns from being completed, that would have been understandable. A CPA should absolutely follow professional standards and should not file anything that does not meet those requirements. However, that was not what was communicated throughout this process. What I witnessed was a breakdown in communication, missed commitments, and a client repeatedly trying to get answers. According to my brother's experience, the refund was only issued after he stated that he would involve local law enforcement due to the lack of communication and inability to get a response. While I acknowledge that the refund was eventually provided, it does not erase the weeks of unanswered messages, missed commitments, and frustration that led up to that point. What concerns me further is that after reading other Yelp reviews, including reviews going back approximately nine months, I noticed similar concerns raised by other customers. Several reviews describe a similar pattern: a strong initial consultation, confidence that a plan was in place, payment and submission of information, followed by difficulty getting timely communication afterward. I can only speak to my family's experience, but seeing similar accounts from other customers was concerning and reinforced why I felt it was important to share what I personally witnessed. Anyone considering this firm should take the time to read both the customer reviews and the business responses and make their own informed decision. I was told to return with identification to file my return via mail, which I did. A while later I accessed the H&R Block website, and found wrong information on my return. I called H&R Block and was told that they had no way to access records, and that the IRS won't even look at my return until later in the year. Basically I have was dumped, with no advise, help, or remedies for the issue. What I'm trying to determine is whether someone is using my identity or it was a simple error by H&R Block, another taxpayer or the IRS. I'll not be using H&R Block in the future.
