The nurses were so nice and very friendly. I also thought the same of the doctors there too. So when my husband said he was going there I told him that it's great there. My husband is there for a totally different illness. We almost lost him due to a C.O.P.D. Exasperation. He was in ICU for 2 weeks and thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Reading Hospital he is here with us. So I know they will do what is good for him and send him home to us good as new.

It wasn't recognized by the ambulance crew or the ER. Only the CT scan revealed the extent of my atypical stroke. The doctors pumped 3% saline directly to the site of the infarction for 10 days. Not .3%... 3%. The marvelous Rehab therapists are the best; the acute care doctor that treated me is pretty great too. Therapists have a continuous stream of pitiful stroke patients... but manage to make every patient feel like they are the first stroke patient that they have ever treated. Thousands of people have been in Rehab before me, many with more knowledge about the methods and value of therapy than I will ever have... but the therapists never let on. God bless them. Without their persistent encouragement I wouldn't be typing this, walking to the kitchen for a drink of water and sitting in the bath tub like a Christian to take a bath. Without the antiedema therapy I'd have a hole in the back of my head or I'd be gone.

The facility's decor is from the 80's but in good repair. As you enter the facility, we were greeted by receptionist Antonette, very friendly. I am still impressed that there was never a nursing home smell, no urine smell to the entire facility. The staff, RN's, LPN'S and nurse's aides to patient ratio was very low, well staffed. The staff worked as a team and had a good attitude. Call bells were consistently answered quickly, usually under 2 minutes, so much faster than in the hospital. The nurses really paid attention to the patients' expressed and unexpressed needs. I was very impressed with their assessment skills and compassion not just for my aunt, but also for the other patients. The patients were kept clean, neat, appropriately clothed and moved, and alarmed against falls. Patients were tolieted and had frequent changes of disposable underwear. Also the nursing staff called the family consistently in real time when changes in medication or doctor's appointments were made, really great communication. The physical therapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, and social worker worked well with my aunt, they appropriately challenged her and treated her as an individual. To this day, I am still impressed with what my aunt and her family experienced in 2016 at this very good snf.

I have a friend who is staying at this facility for over a year waiting to go to a nursing home…read more She was in bed at 11:30 am because they were short staffed. I struggle to give a 1 star. I would never recommend this place to ANYONE! My mom had no choice but…read morego here (due to Medicare/Medicaid low grade options). She needed PT help. Transfer of information DIDN'T happen between the staff from the 2 hospitals. I called the NIGHT my mom was placed in the facility and spoke to the 2nd shift Supervisor AND "Lpn Tammy" to discuss information about my mother's condition: mom is blind in her LEFT EYE & I went over every medication with Tammy. (The next day, I found out Tammy never entered the very important medical information into the computer). My mother fell out of bed first day, and the facility took her to the ER -because her pupils were not reacting. (AGAIN-I told the facility my mother was blind in her LEFT EYE!) This unnecessary EMS call and ambulance trip AND the waste of resources and time SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED -if the staff were better trained to LISTEN and report information correctly. If Medicare is charged 1 cent for any of that cost, it's Medicare fraud. My mom fell out of bed the next night. Mom was at the facility for 12 days and was never bathed. (I have photos and evidence). When my mom was discharged, she had severe water retention in her lower legs and serious cellulitis's that was pussy, bleeding and painful. She had a small rash above her butt and redness in the creases of any fat. Her face was swollen, and her eyes were red. My mom was sent home is 1 pair of socks during a snowstorm due to the severe water retention. (Her shoes didn't fit). The neglect and poor care my mom received haunted her for over a week. My mother had a very different behavior that took us a week to settle. She cried a lot and yelled at night. She constantly asked if she was allowed to do "things." My husband and myself are her caregivers. It was exhausting caring for all the extra confusion and fears. PLEASE: TRUST ME-ANY OTHER PLACE is better! DO NOT SEND A LOVED ONE TO THIS FACILITY! I cannot find 1 nice thing to say. My mom came back worse.

Overall our experience should've been two stars but there were some very attentive staff members…read morethat provided exceptional care. My elderly mother was admitted on a Friday afternoon, which seemed like a burden to the male nurse who did intake (incompletely and incorrectly, which caused problems with insurance down the road). He was not welcoming, at times rude, and seemed frankly unhappy to be working at the facility. The following day on Saturday, the doctor came to see mom and I asked him about bloodwork results. When responding, he felt like he had to show me the long list of patients he had to monitor, so no, he had not yet time to review the bloodwork. Sheesh. Not only did he have an ego, but he gave me no confidence that he would be looking out for mom nor any of the other patients at the facility. After I called him out on that, he eventually provided me with bloodwork results. Later that day, the day RN assigned to mom ignored her requests for her inhaler after her PT session because that was "respiratory's responsibility." Another nurse overheard me asking for it again, and she told mom's nurse that respiratory was not there because it's the weekend. The nurse apologized and finally gave mom her inhaler after we waited almost 3 hours. That's a long time for someone with breathing problems. The PT and OT teams were great. They treated mom with the utmost care and respect. Most of the concerns were with the medical staff. I'm disappointed that a few bad apples ruined our experience. Encompass at Mechanicsburg would be a good place to go if you are not elderly and do not have a lot of medical issues. Encompass, please do better for the next elderly person. For others thinking about going there, just be prepared to be your own advocate.

The wrong medications, ALL the time. Would they change them - Hell No. Because if they change the medication, they see that as an admission that they were using the wrong medication - SO, keeping using the Wrong One. Proof - I ordered and received the 1,000+ Medical Report after discharge to see what they were actually using. BTW, the bogus list of meds that they provide upon release bares no resemblence to what's listed in the actual Medical Record. And the bogus list included less than half the meds actually used. The same approach for dispensing the wrong dosage for the meds. Better yet, how about NO dosage? At times, NO appropriate medication was used. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worse pain; I was a 10 multiple times after an 8 level fusion surgery. Proof - If you PASS OUT and fall on the floor from pain, after suggesting suicide, that's a 10, period, no subjectivity involved. None. BTW, they get some of the employees to buy into the above approach, particularly the temp contract workers - they'll do anything to stay on the payroll!! And of course, Management knows that! Stay informed, And, stay away.

My son was there for 13 months and aside from the therapists, a few good nurses and a couple aides,…read morehis care was deplorable. Administration does a terrible job with communication, the food is barely edible. It took so long to get my son's diet correct (months) and when they finally did, it was cold with absolutely no taste whatsoever. I walked in to him being fed in a reclining position! He was dropped from his lift 3 times, his peg tube was yanked out during a night time changing! I was later told no incident reports were filed for these things!!! One day he had his roommate's clothes on, and his roommate had his on, as well as being in my son's custom wheelchair!! The mistake was very visible as they were completely different sized men, and both looked strange in what they were wearing. Complaints go unanswered for days weeks and months. The building itself is so poorly maintained, and absolutely filthy. I kept a bottle of Pine-Sol spray so that I could spray my son's bathroom down when I visited, so that I was able to use the faucets to wash him. Often times his roommates feces would be on the toilet the wall and the sink. The soap dispenser was broken for six weeks before I finally got administration to put a new one in. Safe to say, no one was washing their hands, but me! Often times, the same washbasin was used on all four roommates head to toe. I complained about this several times, absolutely horrified at how unsanitary and grotesque it was, and yet it took weeks and several complaints, before it was rectified! My son's clothes were mixed in with the community clothing, although there were signs everywhere saying that I did his laundry, subsequently, half of his clothing went missing, which was expensive. It is a revolving door of staff that spoke very little English, so it was very frustrating for many of the residents as the staff had no idea what they were saying, so naturally couldn't attend to their needs. Literally, call bells went unanswered for over an hour sometimes, while staff were on their phones. My son was fearful of his safety and well being. The final straw was an extremely dangerous situation that could have caused serious harm, or much worse, had I not walked in when I did! BEWARE!!!!
