The two ladies are getting up there in age , so we thought the best way to see this city was by taking the trolley tour. The tour cost twenty dollars a person and lasts about one hour. Our guide was very informative about the history of this famous city. We drove by all the important historical homes and markers, while avoiding having to get in and out of the car , numerous times and having to do tons of walking. Parking can be an issue here. The city is also full of lots of hills. So this quick tour was right up our alley by saving us tons of walking and time while getting a more thorough understanding of this city. I highly recommend this tour for people trying to get the Galena experience without doing a ton of walking, searching for parking, and doing a bunch of in and out of cars.

The tour goes by all the tourist attractions - at a slow pace - through Main St and up the hill to the west of downtown. Then it crosses the river and goes east of downtown as well. There are several short stops - not to get off - but where the driver explains the significance of what we were seeing. The tour enables us to easily figure out what to see and do and where things are.

We got there right at 6, parking directly behind the DeSoto house where the website said we would be meeting -- but there was no bus in sight. We started running around trying to find it, even went to their store, only to find the door locked and no one around. About 20 minutes later, my mom called to explain that we had arrived on time but no one was there. The lady on the phone said they had waited 20 minutes for us, looked for us, and then left. But if she had really been waiting, we would have seen her -- and definitely would have seen the bus! When my mom asked if we could move to the 7 p.m. tour instead, the lady said no because she "can't just give up the empty seats," and she wasn't very kind about it either. Eventually, she texted us later saying we could join the 7:30 p.m. tour for free. We decided to wait at a nearby restaurant and have a drink before the tour. We left around 7:12 to find the bus, got on, and they departed at 7:20. (10 minutes early) Our tour guide, Emily, was great -- she was super sweet and friendly. The driver (maybe the boss?) didn't seem as welcoming; she never spoke to us once and only talked during the investigation at the haunted house they own.

If I had been more proactive, I would have avoided spending time and money on this tour. My family of 6 was over $200... definitely not worth the money. After the tour, I sat down to write/read the reviews. Each negative review repeatedly said the same thing, so I decided not to repeat what has already been said. Apparently, these negative reviews have not made any difference because nothing has changed. I guess I just don't understand how a company can be satisfied knowing so many customers are dissatisfied.

So, we called around 10:30 and no one picked up. And when we left a voice-mail, they called us back saying that they called last night, which they didn't. That they told us the itinerary, which they didn't. The tour was supposed to start at 11, but they started at 10 and they had already started without us. On the website it says it starts at 11 on Sundays. Did I miss something? I am extremely disappointed. I really wish that they actually called us ahead of time and left a voicemail and informed us that it was canceled or that they decided to take another group, so that we had alternative plans for this weekend. We are disappointed that we missed out on other potential outings due to the lack of communication. We were really looking forward to the tour honestly. Instead, we feel like they are gaslighting us to believe that we are in the wrong by saying we never picked up and that we would've gone on the tour had we answered. Trust me, we would've picked up had we received a call. If we received an apology for the lack of communication, I would gladly rescind this review. It's a shame how they choose to approach their customers. I'm sure it would've been very fun to go, but based on my experience, I can't recommend.

If you haven't visited Galena, it feels like you walked into the past with brick buildings, wide side walks, and not a single franchise in site. We signed up for the basic package, a tour through old-town Galena. The ride starts at the historic post office. Fun fact, it's the oldest running post office in the Country. Anyway... I had a great time, the driver was very friendly and told us things about the horse and the town. And to add to the historic feeling, they have Clydesdale's! Clyde was the driver that night. It was something fun and new to try, and I'm really glad that I did! :) Please note, the carriage services runs through May through November and cash is only accepted. I highly recommend making an appointment in advance.

Devin was an outstanding host--knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about Galena's food scene. The ugly sweater theme added so much energy and laughter, and Devin leaned into it in a way that made everyone feel relaxed and included. What really made the experience special was the atmosphere. We went with great friends, had a blast together, and also met wonderful new people along the way. It felt less like a "tour" and more like a festive day out with friends--old and new. I've been on food tours where they give you a few bites of something - not here, this was a super generous amount of food. Everything in this tour is connected to honey somehow. Classic things you know your'e going to like (honey lemonade yes please!), but unique things I wouldn't have tried on my own too. Everything was delicious. There was a full wine tasting at one of the stops, with I think 5-6 different wine/alcohol samples and a super educational explanation by the owner. And it finished with a honey tasting led by Dry Creek Beekeeping. That was really fun - I never thought honey could taste so different! And of course a glass of mead. And last but definitely not least, Devin the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable both about food and the history of Galena. It was part history tour, part food tour, and he was an awesome guide in both. He had such a natural way in front of the group, and was nice to chat with along the way too.
