This restaurant was recommended to us by someone at work. I figured, there is not a good, reasonable Italian restaurant in our town, so worth the trip if it's good. The "Italian" decor with the leaning tower of Pisa and large fountain are lots of fun. Cozy alcove seating or room for large parties is available. Service was prompt, by Stephanie. Toasted ravioli was great, salad.was served with house Italian dressing and had small slices of what I asked was house made sausage on top. My husband had gnocchi in Alfredo sauce and I had egg plant parmesan. Delicious! Perfectly prepared. Before we left a very young man came to our table and said thank you for coming, this is my family's restaurant. He said they use his grandma's recipes! I grew up in Rockford, but moved away about 20 years ago. I know this place is a "Rockford staple" but I can't see why. I went here the other night with my in laws. First off it seems the average meal price is about $16-$17. That's fine. However, the parking lot is terrible, you practically have to use the neighboring businesses parking lots to park. Second, the restaurant is crowded. We sat in the leaning tower, which is essentially a circular shaped room designed like the leaning tower of Pisa. It's barely large enough for the table in there and was quite claustrophobic. Even if we weren't there the rest of the restaurant wasn't much better. The ceiling is really low in most places, which lends to the claustrophobic atmosphere. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan. It came with bread, which was the best part of the meal, but it's pretty hard to mess up Italian bread. It also came with a salad, I chose their famous "special" salad. It is basically a garden salad with hard boiled eggs and sausage drenched in Italian dressing. It's nothing special, and pretty soggy. The eggplant itself was flavorless, except for the natural flavor of the eggplant. The breading was a basic bread crumb you can buy at any supermarket, and the eggplant was slightly over cooked. It was drenched in marinara sauce, which again was flavorless. It tasted like canned tomato sauce with nothing extra added. Unlike a traditional Parmesan that comes on a bed of pasta, it came with a side of pasta, which was barely large enough to go with the eggplant. The pasta again was covered in the flavorless tomato sauce. I also ordered an Italian sausage with it, which was a few dollars extra. Again the sausage was a basic mild Italian sausage you can get at any supermarket, nothing special. Everything arrived on separate, very cheap looking plastic plates. For desert you got a scoop of ice cream, again probably a breyers or similar. The scoop was very small and I'm sure a standard ice cream cone comes with more ice cream. My wife ordered a pasta with a garlic sauce. Now if you say it's a garlic sauce you would assume you could taste, or even smell the garlic, which you couldn't. The sauce was essential olive oil, with maybe some garlic in it, but again no flavor, and the pasta was undercooked. Honestly, even their drink came in small glasses. I got a margarita, which was not even served in a margarita glass, just a small cup that would be used for water in most other restaurants. Honestly, for a $50 meal I expect more than that, not to mention the tables all have cheap paper placemats similar to those in a pizza parlor. I'll let the Rockford natives who know no better and think this is a great mid scale restaurant have it. Personally, I felt like I got sub par food, which was worse then many meals I had while in the military at the dining facility. I don't think I'll be back. read more

It was packed when my friend and I decided to eat here, but we were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait for a table! They were able to seat us right away and our waitress was amazing! We ordered the Minestrone and a large cheese and pepperoni pizza. They even gave us bread before our dinner came. The soup was a bit bland but the pizza and the service was excellent. Lino's has been a locally owned Italian restaurant in Rockford Area that has been around for many years. They have grown and expanded to meet the growing customer base. Parking seems to be a very common problem over the weekend and they have tried to address this by buying up surrounding land to put in parking. Reservations are highly recommended if planning a meal over the weekend. Food Quality: Food is very good and ranges include, Pizza and other standard Italian food (Lasagna, Spaghetti, etc.). They also have a very good baked chicken special on Thursday night. They have a "Special Salad" that is always a favorite, which is a Italian salad topped with sliced sausage, hard boiled eggs and other garnishments. The one item that I sometimes have trouble with is that the pizza can be a little on the greasy side for my taste. I think that is more of a personal preference because they do some high volume carry out service. Cleanliness: When I eat in I find that the restaurant is always clean and well maintained. Service: I have always had good service at Lino's. The wait staff is very friendly and always seems to be willing to provide for any special requests for their customers. Atmosphere: The inside of Lion's is designed like a old Italian village where old buildings surround you along with its own leaning tower of pisa. I went to Lino's for the first time with my wife on a date. As we don't get out much and it was highly recommended by word of mouth. The service was amazing which honestly takes a lot for me to say these days. The food tasted like my Italian grandmother hand cooked it herself. I was in heaven. When I told out waitress that it was our first time in she said that was great. A few minutes later the owner came out to meet us introduce him self and tell us how if we ever had any issue he would be happy to fix out himself. Now that's true service and style. You don't see that level of care anymore and it was a breather of fresh air and made the night even more pleasant and special. I have to give credit where credit is due...I have celiac and had reservations to try the Irish Rose tonight because I called in advance to ask if they had gluten free menu they said yes but when we got there not really...so in a pinch we searched and found linos...we called and they were able to get us right in...we were impressed with the intimate seating ..tho my meal wasnt great ..the chef and staff really went out of their way for me even though they were so busy ..I really appreciated their effort ...we will def.come back and try something else.. read more

I will probably sound like a snob saying this, but the only people that I know that actually like this place are from Rockford and have never tasted real Italian food. I lived in Chicago's Litty Italy for years and this was one of my first stops once I moved to Rockford. There is really nothing I like about this place. I have been there more times than I can count because I want to like it since people close to me rave about it. Hate the pizza. Any dish I have gotten with their red sauce tastes like Ragu, their special salad is just lettuce drenched in dressing with egg and sausage in it. Big woop. The only things that I have liked that I have gotten there are the soda, Chicago speak for "pop", an alfredo dish, and their tomato salad. They even ruined the one good thing they had by changing out the tomatoes once tomato prices went up. I even had a chance to eat here for free and passed it up. Too bad I can't give it a no star rating. I am kind of wondering how this place stays in business to be honest with you. It needs to go. read more

We travelled from Tampa to visit our Dad in Rockford with the promise of eating at Lino's. They were extremely busy but our server Destiny was prompt, friendly and fun. Lino's has a very cool authentic Italian atmosphere with multiple rooms and everything was decorated for Christmas which made it even more special. We started with our favorite...their amazing salad tossed with house vinegarette, boiled egg, tomato & sausage slices. In past visits we always ordered pizza but the 3 of us had gnocchi, tortellini & eggplant parmigiana which were all delicious. We ended with complimentary spumoni and a special visit from the owner, Joe, who was wearing a chef apron and obviously working along his staff. Lino's is a must do while in Rockford and we can't wait to come back next year! read more

I have eaten at almost every italian resteraunt in Rockford and out of all of them i find it surprising that this is number 1. I have never eaten at Linos until tonight and it was by far the blandest, basic and most unsatisfying place I have been to. My pizza had no sauce whatsoever, the sauce on our eggplant was runny and overall lacked no unique flavor whatsoever. The food was like something prepared by a 14 year old taking home economics for the first time. I was also surprised to see they had no stuffed pizza and after eating the regular thin I understand why they dont. Perhaps I just came on an off Sunday but for a first impression I am turned off. I went on the recomendation of Yelp, considering it was number 1 and now I question the ability of Yelp to accurately rate food and dining. The most upsetting part was that is was my wife and I's 9 year anniversary and our meal was nothing to remember. read more

I lived in Rockford for many years and I can always remember getting Lino's quite often as the price was very affordable, for a small group on up to a large party. The carryout is the great and always packed with customers getting orders to go. I even knew people that worked there and they absolutely loved the food and the job, so that means a lot as well when an employee has nothing bad to say about the place or management. We celebrated my parents' 60th wedding anniversary at Lino's on Saturday night. We are from the Chicago area and had high expectation. The food, service and value were all outstanding. There were 40 of us and we all had Chicken Lino which was excellent. The pastas and sauce were fabulous, as was the pizza bread and salad. The soup was a bit odd for a minestrone and I would have subbed the baked potato for another vegetable, and switched the spumoni which was just ok. Overall, it exceeded our expectations! This place has great customer service! My wife's lasagna came out a tad cold and they treated us like royalty. The manager came over twice and worked hard to make it right. Service was excellent and pizza was great but my steak was beyond terrible. Ordered it mid rare and it was mid well. Ok. Not gonna complain because I wanted to enjoy my birthday dinner with my family and have to wait for them to re cook it. But it literally was a tasteless,chewy gross hunk of terrible quality meat. Needless to say my dogs got it and they are not picky. My husbands chicken Marsala was very bland and flavorless, nothing to write home about. My last visit was my LAST visit! The Lino's that we grew up with is no more. They can renovate all that they want but if you don't have good service who cares? I stopped in for listen to live music in the bar with a friend and was practically ignored. The bartender was slow and inattentive. It was like watching a sloth! I ordered a special salad for my dinner. When it came it was so drenched with dressing it was sloppy wet. The greens were limp and some were old. The kicker was that I received no silverware and getting her attention to get some got me nowhere. I ended up having to another table for some of their silverware just to EAT! I don't care if I am eating in the bar - you should give silverware to your guests when they order food!! At the end of the night, my tab was over $30 for 2 drinks and a small salad! What the heck are they charging for?? I find the food to be mediocre at best and service even worse. They only thing going for Lino's anymore is the live music.
