After decades of loving Nunzios, we were very disappointed for the first time when we ordered pizza under the new management. My lifelong favorite pizza has the sweetest sauce , nothing at all like the pizza I love. Been going to Nunzios for at least 30 years. Ate there recently under the new ownership. Pizza was not the same as it used to be. Cheese tasted sour, hardly any sauce, and the crust tasted like a stale cracker. The new owner came out to the bar from the kitchen to refill a pop, never looked up or acknowledged any patrons. Great way to treat your customers. At first I thought he was the dishwasher the way he was dressed and was shocked to find out he was the owner. They swear they are not changing anything. They may not be changing any of the recipes, but they are changing where they are getting the ingredients. Not sure if we will ever go back. I do wish Nunzio and his family a fantastic retirement. I've picked up pizza from here a few times now cause my friends really like it. Service for pick up is quick. I've only eaten inside once and it's nice. As far as the pizza goes, it's pretty solid. Was a bit expensive in my opinion though. Got the meat lovers and added some garlic and basil and was $36. Irrespective of price, it was pretty good. Always very good food. Doesn't matter if we get pizza or if we get pasta dinners. You just can't go wrong with anything here. I enjoy going here to eat because it's always quiet and the service is amazing. My husband likes to get takeout mostly though and it's just as good. They are always friendly when he goes to pick up and he says if Nunzio is there he always says hi. That's a great way to greet customers I believe. Terrible. Ate there the other night. Iced tea was weak brown water and no free refills! What? $3 each glass!! Salad is just lettuce like from a bag. Can't get exchange for Italian salad. Pasta and sauce were ok. One meatball $1.75 and it's little!. Food comes very slow. Waitress was good. On the menu I noticed the fish fry. Is $25!!! And no specials for fish on Friday night. Got served the wrong cut of steak, then was told I was wrong. I definitely can tell the difference between a New York strip and a ribeye. Offered nothing to make it right. We dined here yesterday, Sunday . One of the worse experiences to date. The service was mediocre. The food was cheap and the taste was awful. Service- I asked for cream with my coffee, she forgot the cream. It was almost impossible to get an extra cup of coffee. Food-My $20 stuffed shrimp spaghetti , the spaghetti had no taste...parm would have helped. 6 small shrimp covered in a tasty stuffing. My wife's $32 14oz New York Strip was soft mushy...too aged, is a kind way of putting it ? The Au gratin potatoes were hash browns in a dark yellow cheese sauce-terrible flavor. My salad was 99% lettuce with a sprinkling of dressing, and, one hair sized carrot slice. The calamari was so thicky over-breaded and tasteless...with a few rings, cooked well. $73 later and a $12 tip , my plans are not to return...someone there is getting rich.... read more

Don't order the lasagna! We went to Nunzio's last night to celebrate my birthday. Our exchange student daughter ordered the lasagna at our recommendation. We felt so bad we recommended it to her. It used to be good, however, it has changed it a very bad way. The lasagna was plated in a large bowl when it used to come on a plate. This would be fine other than the fact the bowl was filled to the top with pasta sauce. When the bowl was brought to the table it looked like a bowl of sauce, the lasagna was not even visible. The amount of sauce was ridiculous and gross. It was like an underwater island of lasagna in a sea of red sauce. There was no way you would even fish out what was not consumed to bring it home. She picked at it a little bit, trying to fish for the lasagna but ended up eating our pizza instead. Very disappointing. I wanted to sent it back but my husband and exchange daughter didn't want to create a fuss. She only ate a few bites and said it was like a bad lasagna soup. Finally getting around to write this review. Went there for dinner with my wife. Got seated right away. Brought bread and ordered right away, Steak Sinatra MR & a filet M. Soup for me, salad for my wife. Came right out and was happy so far. Then things took a turn. Almost an hour later, our steaks arrived. Waitress did not check on us for 45 minutes and when she did, she asked how we liked our food! 5 minutes later our food arrived. Mine was well done and my wife's was blue rare. I waved down the waitress and said they were cooked wrong and I would like to speak to the manager. After waiting 10 minutes, I ate a few bites of my overdone steak and gave the couple of less dry pieces to my wife. I flagged down the waitress and asked why the manager never came. She then said she did, but I was busy eating so everything must have been OK. After an hour and 30 minutes I was starving so I took a bite. Screw this place. The only reason I payed the bill was because I had a gift card and never wanted to go back. With customer service and food this bad, how are they busy. Friends have almost as bad stories, but people keep going. Not me. read more

Fabulous place!!!! Service is top notch and the food is, well perfect! I think among our party of eight we tried most of the appetizers. We had trouble deciding so we ordered extras. Octopus, mussels, calamari, soup, salad....all wonderful. One of the few places that makes Osso Buco the right way. The meatballs were excellent and my chicken dish was just amazing. Didi waited on us and we never wanted for a single thing. Our plates were cleared, glasses were constantly filled and she returned with whatever we asked for in seconds. Truly exceptional service and not that I care because you can throw good food at me but it was a welcomed and pleasant surprise that added to the quality of the place as a whole. I never even got to try the food, the guy on the phone was AWFUL! I placed an order through Uber eats and called to tell them what pastas I would like with the half and half, I hung up and I got a notification Uber had canceled my order (definitely not their fault) I called to ask if the order had been cancelled because I still wanted my food and an angry man got on the phone and super aggressively said "no one paid for this food I'm not gonna make it unless you pay for it and come get it yourself." They did not want my business. I telephoned their main number (815) 633-5000 at 8:29pm on a Tuesday. Their website, nunzios.com, advertises that they are open until 9pm on a Tuesday. The woman that answered the phone responded to my request to place a carry out order by saying: "We're closed!" I again asked if I could place a carry out order, she responded "We closed at 8:30, it is now 8:31." I asked why the website stated a 9pm closing time, and she responded by hanging up. read more

Another classic Rockford Loves Park Italian restaurant. Their thick crust cheese and sausage pizza is by FAR THE BEST TASTING PIZZA IN THIS AREA. Yes all caps because it's that good. High quality mozzarella cheese and lots of it. It stretches like good cheese should. Their pizza sauce has a slight kick to it and a great Italian red sauce taste. The dough is just the right texture. Not too doughy and not too crunchy. Their pasta sauce is in my option the second best red sauce in the area. Only to Joe's Casa DiAmichi's (aka Marias Cafe). Their steak Sinatra and pasta is also very good although it's usually their pizza for me. I would highly recommend Nunzios and not that place on State street with the runny pasta sauce. read more

There were multiple big parties the day we came, so I was impressed with the service. Our waitress always checked in with us and made sure we were good. The food took a long time to come out, so I was happy we ordered appetizers. I enjoyed the coconut shrimp as it was juicy. I would recommend ordering their coconut shrimp for appetizers. I ordered the chicken parmigiana with alfredo sauce for the pasta instead of red sauce. I was quite shocked at how the it looked when it first came to the table, but I didn't care since I was starving. I was quite disappointed when I started eating as the sauce had a weird texture. The chicken parmigiana wasn't satisfying in my mouth. It didn't taste fresh either in my mouth, and this was quite a disappointment as I had waited for quite awhile for my food to come out. read more

We ordered pizza, the Marghurita and The Hawaiian pizzas. These were fantastic. The toppings were extremely generous and their sauce flavor beats all pizzas I've had here in this area so far. The service was fast accurate and although outrageously busy, there was still time for the staff to be friendly. We have a new favorite pizza. I would recommend everyone go to Nunzio's. read more

Me, my husband and one of our good friends had dinner here on a Friday. I wish I could remember our waitresses name because she was amazing. I had the chicken parmigiana which was just okay, mediocre. My husband had the steak Sinatra something they are famous for and he enjoyed it very much. He said it was cooked perfectly. Our friend had the 14oz ribeye, he also said it was cooked perfectly. We also got the calamari appetizer, the calamari was good and NOT chewy! We also received the usual bread & butter, side salads & soup. It seemed like so much food before our entrees came so we could barely finish our food. It made for good leftovers though! Stopped in for dinner on a Monday night at 5pm. It was my 1st time here. We ordered cheese sticks for an appetizer. They came out quickly & very delicious. Full of gooey cheese & a tasty crunchy coating. Could have used alittle more marinara for dipping but thats just me being very picky. Ordered an XL sausage & pepperoni pizza. Again, super delicious! From bad to worse! We were seated in a small room with 6 other people. After taking off our jackets 3 of us put our jackets back on because it was so cold. Four of the other people were eating with there jackets on. Everything looked good on their plates when we walked in. My wife orders the two pork chop Sinatra. I ordered the 14 oz. New York Sinatra on the advice from the waitress. After finishing our plate of pasta and salad that came with it. We were waiting for the main coarse when the waitress came in and said that they made a mistake on my wife's meal. They only made one pork chop for her. She said that they would bring everything out and start cooking another one. My wife said that one was ok and really didn't want the second one. When I saw her chops and my steak smothered in "bread crumbs Sinatra I was shocked. Where's the steak. When I pulled away what was literally over a cup of crumbs I realized that they had cut my steak into about 4 chunks. Every drop of juice in the steak was absorbed by the crumbs. When I tried to cut off my first piece of meat it had silver skin or white gristle running through the middle of my steak from one end to the other. I tried to fillet the meat off this silver membrane when I finally gave up and talked to the waitress when she returned I voiced my complaint about my steak. I also told her that I shouldn't have to pay for the second piece of pork that she was bringing out in a doggy bag. She took my plate and went to talk to her manager. She came back and said she was removing the second piece of pork but wasn't doing anything about my steak. I asked to talk to the manager. He said that he wasn't doing anything with the steak because I had ate 80% of it. First of all my steak was very small and there was 3 chunks and some pieces of silver skin left on my plate. You could see the silver white line going right down the middle of this meat. Personally I don't even think it was a New York strip steak. Too narrow and gristly in the middle. I said that's unfortunate that you are willing to lose 4 customers over a bad piece of meat. I went back to my table and wrote "ask the manager for your tip" on the bill and I walked away. Stopped here with my daughters because someone I know raves about the "Sinatra Steak". First off, I love steak, 2nd I love cutting my own steak, 3rd I love toppings on my steak but love to see my steak without toppings smothering it completely...when this "Sinatra Steak" arrived to the table it was completely covered with bread crumbs, completely. I had sautéed mushrooms which was fine because I always top it with mushrooms. When I went to cut the steak, a piece fell off as I put the knife in line to cut, as I began to examine the rest of the steak i see that it was completely sliced up !!! I was not happy about that at all, the excitement for me is to actually cut the steak and see the juices flow, I didn't get that. I felt like a kid eating pre-cut steak slices. Then I ate a piece, my mouth was full of bread crumbs with me trying to Taste the actual steak. It was a tug of war in my mouth between the two, It felt like I was just eating a box of bread crumbs I was not happy. I ended up taking all the bread crumbs off, made my plate look messy. The steak itself was cooked to perfection. I love dipping my steak in its juices along with the juices from the mushrooms but I didn't get that because it was absorbed by all the bread crumbs. My daughter ordered the same exact meal and was unhappy as well. She stated that it wasn't worth what we paid. Much agreed. I've always heard associates rave about Mostaccioli never had It till eating it here and probably never will again. It was just basic sauce over noodles. Absolutely no flavor to it at all. When we arrived the lady that seated us seemed unfriendly, never even gave us menus, even our waitress was surprised to find that out. Don't think I will be returning. This place gets 5 stars all the way!! This Sinatra Steak is enough to earn this place one of the top places to eat in Rockford. Probably one of the best steaks I've had...ever! It is definitely unique, it is garlicky but the cut is amazing and full of juice and tastes a lot like Brazilian steakhouse picanha. Family friendly, mom/pop (not a hole in the wall and it is NOT a dump, unless you're a snooty bastard). Very good service. Food order comes out a little unorthodox... Pasta served before the salad then the main meal is served. With that being said the portions are enorMANormous! Rockford is full of excellent choices for Italian food. This place is definitely at the top of my list to include some Chicago eateries to stop by when in town. Enjoy the pics. read more
