We walked in here with no expectations on a Friday evening and were welcomed warmly by the owner who introduced us to their house specials and popular dishes, helping to recommend ones that our younger toddler would likely enjoy. This girl loved the beef noodle soup so much that she almost single handedly ate the entire portion herself (with some help from myself). We also got the si gua, which was another recommendation from the staff, and this was a huge portion that was so flavorful, sweet and savory and lightly garlicky, it was the perfect accompaniment to the rice. My husband and toddler also loved the sausage, another popular dish here. At the end of our meal, the chef brought out a small plate of fresh cherry tomatoes with an umami powder sprinkled on top. Wow - this was a banger in our mouths. We were told that the restaurant sources many of their ingredients from their own organic farm, including where the si gua and these juicy and sweet cherry tomatoes are from. I mean you could taste the difference in the quality of these ingredients! They were indeed so fresh and flavorful. Thank you for such a hearty meal - we have just added another restaurant to our weekly rotation, and will for sure be back! read more

Tried this location because it was in walking distance from the hotel. It was definitely not my favorite food. The service was very nice and I do believe that was the owner that was super kind and very friendly to me while I was there. Their prices are very reasonable, but let's get into the food. I started with the crab Rangoon and I didn't like them. Not only did they lack in flavor, but they also seemed a bit oily. Next, I had fried chicken wings and they were just OK. They were fried too hard and I don't know how long the chicken had been sitting. I also had a shrimp spring roll and it was mostly vegetables and very little shrimp and again it tasted a little oily. For my main entree I had the happy family, which was supposed to be one of the chef's specialties and it was really lacking in flavor. I did not like the taste of the meat that was Inside... not the chicken, nor the shrimp or the beef. The best part of the entrée was the vegetables. This was disappointing. Gave it a few tries since there aren't many good chinese options in the area but they just kept getting worse. Probably one of the biggest issues I had besides the terrible smell inside was how over-sauced the food was. The broccoli was soaked in sauce and oil to the point where it almost inedible. We got some take out on our way back to CT and enjoyed the food a few hours later. They held up so well and portion was very generous given the affordable prices. We also got a bag 1.25lb of frozen Taiwanese sausage to take home. Our 4 dishes with the frozen sausage came out to be around $55. We also got a pint of rice. Not sure if this is typically included or which dish it came with. We ordered off the Taiwanese menu. We tried the Taiwanese styled bamboo with pork strips. It has a very clean flavor and the bamboo was super fresh tasting (not canned). The flies' head dish which has bean curd was not as spicy as the version in Flushing's Beigang restaurant. It was very saucy and spilled when I took it out of the bag so be careful. This dish is perfect when enjoyed with rice. The chicken roll was flavorful and the sauce it came with was garlicky and very Taiwanese. It was very meaty and yummy. The Taiwanese sausage fried rice was filled with the sausage. They did not skimp! All in all, wish we live closer so we can enjoy authentic Taiwanese food more often. read more

While attending several events at the Hyatt across the street, I have somehow never made it to Lin's Palace. Interior is very interesting, decorated with various vases, ships, and art. I was seated quickly, and the restaurant was semi-busy during my visit. Appears to be BYOB, but I would check before bringing a bottle. Menu was extensive as expected from a Chinese restaurant, but be aware this is not a sushi place, none is on the menu. Ordered the Combination Platter Chicken with Chinese vegetables. Came with various options for sides, I went with the Pork Fried Rice, no soup, and the egg roll. Soda is served in cans. Food was average, but the portion size was good, and it arrived quickly. Egg roll seemed to be mostly vegetables. Why I gave Lin's a higher rating was for one unique thing: Watching who I could only guess was Mr. Lin work the room. Checked on every table and chatted with the people, multiple times. Other employees also did it too in-between Lin's visits. It was a fun and interesting sight to see. Overall, for the experience it was cool. Food was ok, but perhaps a tad too expensive for any basic Chinese food orders. read more

We've been on the hunt for Taiwanese pork chops and were excited to spot this place on Yelp while at a nearby soccer game. Lin's palace is everything you want it to be. No fuss, authentic, a family business. The indoor decor is reflective of Mr. Lin's passions - fishing. And the food is also. The Taiwanese sausage is everything - they make thousands of pounds of it every year which is sold to nearby restaurants and companies. The plate is served with fresh garlic. This is a must order. Also ordered: the fried pork (yummy), the chicken roll (yes!), the fried eggplant (clouds of puffy eggplant), fried squid (great seasoning), scallion pancake, braised beef and rice, sausage fried rice, three cup chicken (great). Everything was wonderful. On the weekends, families crowd in for authentic Taiwanese food and have been for 40 years. In reading past reviews, I can't say I would come here for American Chinese food... but why would you? Do yourself a favor and order off the Taiwanese menu. read more

I remember coming here with my mom as a kid and decided to stop by on a quiet Monday evening with my husband. The place is pretty much a hole in the wall and looks like it hasn't changed a bit since I last visited all those years ago. The place was empty and had a slight unappealing smell. Though the smell was offputting, I was willing to power through it in hopes of reviving some memories of good food. The staff was friendly and suggested sticking to the first few pages of the menu for the most authentic dishes. We ended up ordering scallion pancakes, Taiwanese sausage, beef noodle soup, and shredded beef with green pepper. All of it was delicious! The scallion pancakes were crispy on the outside and served with a familiar, sweet and salty sauce. The Taiwanese sausage was served with what seemed like the equivalent of an entire bulb of garlic, just like what you'd get at the nightmarket. The beef in the noodle soup was very tender and the soup was flavorful and not too salty. Lastly, the shredded beef with green pepper was intense but to my request, not terribly spicy. Went here 2nd time on Mother's Day because of stinky tofu/ Taiwanese food craving. It was just as good as the first time. We enjoyed the beef noodles soup, pork over rice, fried intestines, a choy. The oyster pancake isn't for us tho but I'm sure my friends would like it (ordered to try bc so many pics of it from others online). The staff was super nice and previous visit we even chatted with the owner. The restaurant is very old style. Overall of course I will be back for more Taiwanese food. read more

The owner of Lin's Palace was super friendly! He took an already pleasant dinner experience and kicked it up quite nicely. The owner told us that he grows the green beans they serve himself, along with other vegetables. To illustrate his point, he offered us a free cucumber side served with a spicy sauce. Very tasty! We ended up ordering the green beans with cooked garlic and shrimp. It was a terrific dish, full of flavor. For my entree I ordered the Taiwanese sausage with raw garlic I saw many Yelpers recommend. Those Yelpers were on the money! Get f for yourself! As for our other foods, the pork bun was what you would expect, nothing special. Meanwhile the stuffed pepper was just ok. Lin's is a fixture on Speedwell Avenue, so when I was at an event across the street, I thought to pop in. I'm really glad I did. Their food is excellent. They have two menus, a typical American Chinese restaurant menu, and a specialty Taiwanese menu. Both are very good. During this pandemic, we wanted to support Lin's so we called in an order of steamed dumplings, lemon chicken and cold noodles from the Chinese menu and the special garlic and sausage chicken from the Taiwan menu. The dumplings were the weakest link. They tasted like a freezer and had no cohesion. The lemon chicken and garlic rice with sausage were delicious. And the cold noodles were superlative. Absolutely outstanding. Thank you previous reviewer who mentioned how they are not gummy peanut butter-covered, but a light soy flavored linguine -size noodle, with cabbage.We will definitely be ordering that again. I was pleased to see a sign asking people to come in to pickup to wear a mask. I trust the staff is taking all needed precautions during this pandemic, if they want me to, as well. I was staying across the street at the Hyatt hotel and happened to find this restaurant on yelp that served authentic Chinese food. Much to my delight, it was a Taiwanese restaurant which is my favorite Asian cuisine. Walked in and was greeted immediately as well as seated. I believe it was a family business since everyone was laid back and not dressed in work clothing which adds a nice touch. The waiter(s) were very nice and patient (if you needed time to order, but I already knew what I wanted since I checked online.) While you ate, of course the waiter would come by to ask how everything is/fill your water. I got the tea so there was no need for a refill, but I saw the customer in the next table have his refilled. The food was very good and very well portioned. Although the pricing for the oyster pancake was higher than expected, I still got it regardless to try. Overall service was great and I would recommend this place to anyone that either lives in this town or happens to pass by. read more

Finally made my way back here to take my dad out for a birthday dinner. Time for a more thorough review though - it's so hard to find authentic Taiwanese food here, even in Flushing and Chinatown. Same amazing food I remember. The owners are from Taiwan and were happily chatting away with my parents in Taiwanese. They grow a lot of the vegetables for their vegetable dishes in their garden and you can definitely tell by taste and texture. The 3 cup chicken is very good, but only order if you can handle a lot of little bones. Sponge gourd/Chinese okra (shi gua) was fantastic, the seeds were so tender instead of being hard and rough like you sometimes get. The owner proudly told me they had just picked it that morning. Also get the whole steamed fish with scallion and ginger. The husband who owns the place used to work on a fishing boat - he definitely knows his fish and you can tell by the delicious subtle fragrance from the sea bass. I also love the Spanish mackerel stew (sorry, rough translation), a dish my dad grew up eating in Tainan. The owners are really friendly people, they also gave us some of their homemade Chinese pickles to try and it was delicious. If you want to have real Taiwanese food, check this place out! More than half of the dishes that we ordered were basically not good, completely flavorless, used the wrong ingredient or just poorly executed. Example they used the wrong noodle type to make lo mein. They used white flour noodles meant for spicy beef noodle soup. read more

The chicken with brocolli was a little spicy but they had the ratio of chix to brox right. Also mu shu pork was tasty. Oh my goodness I love this place! It reminds me of home style traditional Taiwanese Chinese food. The kind you will find in Taipei or Yan Min San Taiwan. Don't be fooled by the menu, some of the listed items do not look authentic BUT they serve and will recommend a ton of seasonal fresh seafood or veggie dishes. We ordered the traditional Taiwanese sausage rice. This sausage is hand made and like the tradition, tastes a bit sweet. My 5 year old finicky son loved it. We also ordered the chicken roll which came crisp, wasn't heavily oily and flavorful. Their oyster on a half shell with black beans was really fresh, no complains there. They recommended this seasonal clam with a red vinegar wine marinade and the last time I tasted this dish was in a dish in my uncles house in Taipei. And WOW THE SERVICE WAS WONDERFUL. They gave us a sample of their raw blue crab that was soaked in rice wine. Oh wowwww. This is a Shanghainese dish but oh so oh so delicious. Think fresh sweet raw blue crab. I would have ordered the side dish myself but at this point I was stuffed. They also gave us free hot sauce that was amazing. It was freshly sautéed with green peppers, tiny shrimp, and some type of pickled vegetables. I was scarfing it down whole the day afterwards. My dad knew the owner and used to bring us here whenever my grandmother visited from Taiwan. The last time I was there was 27 years ago. Not much has changed. Ambiance: decorated with Chinese paintings, sculptures and pottery. Tables are casually bare. Food: we ordered the following dishes: the oyster pancakes - was ok. It's covered in too much sauce, which was on the bland side. Toto fish thick soup - excellent! It had the right amount of black vinegar and thickness. Taiwanese cabbage - excellent. It was very fresh and not greasy. Stinky tofu - good. the fried bean curd itself was not fermented so there was no stink. The pickled cabbage accompanying the tofu was good, but should have been spicy. (They brought out their housemade chilli sauce, it was so good with the tofu.) Sliced pork with taiwanese bamboo - decent. It wasn't what I had expected, I thought it'd be sauteed in soy sauce. I ate it but I don't think I would order it again.
