I decided to try this spot when I was trying to kill some time before an event I was going to in the area. Usually the first thing I try at every Chinese restaurant is sweet and sour chicken with fried rice - I like to start with a basic order. Honestly it was pretty good. It had good crisp to it and the sweet and sour sauce was pretty good too. The pork fried rice wasn't my favorite. But it was decent. The staff was very busy, yet they were still friendly and helpful. Their card readers go down sometime, so next time I come in I will make sure to bring cash just in case. I ended up having to trust them with my card number, which made me uneasy, but when I saw the correct charge on my bank statement later that evening I felt better. I've reviewed this place again and again, but I've been coming here for well over 20 years now. I can't remember honestly because I've been in FP for 30 years so I honestly can't remember how long I've been coming here. If you're looking for the fancy Chinese, this is not the spot. You can't even eat here anymore as I think they took that away after Covid and I do miss coming here for lunch because it was nice to sit in the back and it was pretty inexpensive. The family is very nice and always remembers my dad and I I have a great memories of coming here or ordering takeout for my family and eating it at home. I've been all over the country, but I love the soare ribs here.(i them well done) I get the general tsaos or usually sesame chicken, but I get it white meat. Not great. This is our local Chinese restaurant but the food does not impress. Mei Fun had so little flavor the noodles were bright white. Wonton soup was average in flavor. Egg foo young has too much liquid in the container, I don't know if it is condensation or oil but it is not pleasant. Ordered 80 dollars worth of food for family tonight. Absolutely the worst Chinese food on the planet. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE or you will be burnt: 1) the general Tao's is just sweet and sour fried chicken with some thin brown sauce on bottom. I called the place and the manager told me it's because their breading is so fluffy it looks like there isn't sauce. Seriously? It's absolutely horrendous 2) the fried rice is not white rice fried in a wok with sauce sauce. It's Spanish yellow rice with no sauce sauce and no flavor and is absolutely embarrassing. 3) the chicken and broccoli had NO SAUCE. Completely flavorless...once again the manager told me on phone that it's because they don't use traditional sauce it's just some oil that should be on bottom. Well it wasent. 4) wonton meat tastes like some exotic meat you can place name on and makes you gag. 5) crab Rangoons are defrosted in a microwave and not even refried. I've had some bad Chinese food growing up in NJ but this place is the absolute worst of all time. If you're looking for gourmet Chinese food, then this isn't the place. It's a solid Chinese food takeout experience. The wonton soup was OK. It came with the thinner hard noodles as opposed to the wider variety that I typically enjoy. I also ordered shrimp with steamed mixed vegetables and the order came just as I requested. I have to agree with Linda S., I ordered last night and it was not enjoyable at all. I wonder if they're under new ownership, since they were closed for many weeks prior to reopening a week ago or so? The boneless spare ribs were really burned, I'm not sure how they even allowed them to leave the restaurant. They used to be quite good, but the burnt taste lingered in your mouth, so even the lucky pieces that escaped the inferno were ruined as well. I ordered the steamed dumplings that used to be pretty decent as well, only this time were filled with a cat food like consistency of pork and ginger. They were definitely different that I remembered and now, I will never forget them for a different reason all together. I would not recommend these for the future. Lastly, I ordered broccoli in brown sauce (think chicken and broccoli without chicken), and this too was a miss. The sauce tasted overly salty (I know, it's always salty), and the broccoli had many pieces of stems, instead of the tops. It was not horrible, but noticeably different than when I had ordered in the past. All in all it wasn't a horrific experience, but I don't think I'll reorder from Hunan Wok anytime soon. Hate to give them one star but after only being able to take a couple of bites, I had to. Only my opinion. I ordered the general tao dinner combination (Battered deep fried chicken pieces covered in a thick sauce). First turn off was the type of chicken pieces they use. Stringy and unbreakable. Second, the chicken was too salty. Their rice on the other hand was a little undercooked and was the opposite of salty-bland. Lastly, I always gobble up fried egg rolls in an instant, but I couldn't finish theirs. The wrapper was semi raw and doughy and the inside filling a bit dry. Decent take-out Chinese food. Super fast and always fresh. I love the ability to order online from their website. It's incredibly convenient and one can set the time to pick up the food (within reason of course). Solid place. I usually only order chicken and broccoli from Chinese food places. So here's my assessment. The chicken is fresh and delicious(not chickeny and chewy), the broccoli is cooked perfectly al dente, the sauce is sweet and savory and not greasy like some other places, and the rice is perfect. Yum! My family recently started ordering takeout from Hunan Wok. We've found that though the prices are comparable to other Chinese restaurants in the area, the portions are incredibly generous. Usually we order 3 dishes to split amongst 3 of us and we'll have enough leftovers for 1 of us to eat for lunch the next day. However, with these huge portions, we end up with enough for all of us to enjoy for a second meal. I particularly like the shredded beef with garlic sauce. It comes with lots of vegetables (the crunchy celery and water chestnuts being my favorite) and the sauce is thick and perfect for drizzling over rice. That was nice as it was about 10:30 when I got there and they were just getting ready to close. They took my order and I was able to get food. The food was quick to be made and it was very tasty. My food was ready in a timely fashion, the price was right and the woman behind the counter was friendly. Was looking for a place nearby the office and saw the line building up inside so figured this had to be worthy of a stop-in. I went with the Dragon and Phoenix dish, basically General Tso's Chicken and Shrimp with some added veggies. Overall the dish was good but I think they went a little heavy on the peas and I would toss the tomatoes as well. Pretty good dish, and there was plenty of it, just lose one scoop of the peas and all of the tomato and I'd love this all the time. The Broccoli was spot on btw. This Chinese takeout is in a little strip mall on Ridgedale Avenue southbound. I had the roast pork egg foo young combination. I thought it was just mediocre. There were tough bits of pork in the egg foo young and they use the dreaded yellow fried rice. I am giving this otherwise standard Chinese takeout place a solid 3 stars. Here's why. They have a nice variety, the prices are good and the food is nicely prepared. In addition, they will prepare their food without oil, which is something I like since I dislike greasy Chinese food. I prefer my food cooked in broth and this venue does this very well. There are better Chinese restaurants on Route 46 in Parsippany, but this place does a great job. I highly recommend the bean sprouts and chicken cooked in the broth. Delicious. read more
