A&J Bistro offers very fast service with impressively professional and efficient waitstaff. Everything moves quickly here, which makes it a great spot if you're looking for a well-paced meal. If you're planning to order the pan-fried soup dumplings, just know they typically arrive last. That's not a bad thing as they make them fresh to order, which explains the delay. One dish I personally didn't enjoy was the bean curd veggie delight. It had an odd, lingering flavor possibly from canned ingredients or a strong herb or spice. I couldn't quite place it, but it reminded me of Chinese five spice or something similar. That same flavor seemed to show up faintly in the fried chicken too, which made it a bit less enjoyable for me. On the other hand, the beef noodle soup was solid. The broth was comforting, and the beef was tender. The spicy wonton soup was just okay--nothing particularly memorable. Overall, A&J Bistro delivers quick service and a decent range of dishes. Not everything was to my taste, but there are definitely some highlights. I'd rate it a 4 out of 5.

IFKYK- it's really hard to find good Taiwanese food in NYC. So when visiting friends in Jersey I'm glad this place exists!! I lived in socal for ten years and loved the A&J in Irvine- the menu looks about the same with a few adds and minuses and the food tastes very similar but I think Irvine is slightly better. I love the seaweed sprout vinegar salad, and the cucumbers are very good as well. Pig ears also solid. I got the pork chop rice which was delicious! Can't wait to come back. Thank goodness it's here!

A & J Bistro continues to be a great destination for Szechuan food. OK, it's really the only destination for Szechuan food in the area, but it's still very good. Keep in mind though, it is strictly a Szechuan food restaurant, and that's really all that's on the menu. Don't come looking for egg rolls or sweet and sour pork. One of the dishes I keep returning for is the Niu Ro Niu Jin Mian (1100 on the menu). In English that's Spicy Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup. I recommend ordering the soup with hand cut noodles. It is spicy, but not scary spicy, and loaded with flavor. The service is quick and friendly, even if there is a bit of a language barrier if you don't speak Chinese. You can always point to what you want on the menu. The interior isn't fancy, but it's clean and efficient. On a cold, winter day A & J Bistro is a great destination to warm your stomach and your soul.

Every time I stop here I order the Vegetable Steamed Veggie Dumplings. They're always delicious- especially the sauce they serve with them. I always get my dumplings to go, but they get really full on weekends and the atmosphere is buzzing.

What a treat to find this gem in central Jersey. Love how authentic the dishes are and so reasonably priced. My personal favorite is the pancake with beef and the sliced beef & tripe in spicy sauce. I noticed too late that they also have freshly made youtiao, which are kind of like Chinese churros :) It can get pretty busy on weekends, so be prepared to wait if you get here during prime lunch time. Service is quick and prompt, no frills.

Food: fried chicken with wide noodles soup, fried chicken with rice, cucumbers. Service: basic, as expected. I was on the search for A&J Restaurant like the one in Cupertino and Irvine. This was pretty close and satisfied the craving!

Casual Taiwanese restaurant. The beef noodle soup was very good. Tried the cucumber salad, scallion pancake and pan fried buns. All were good. Boba was also good. May be wait on weekends.

As someone who grew up in SoCal around some of the best Taiwanese food (including the A&J in Irvine, which I'm still unsure if they're related..), the beef noodle soup here is as good as any I've had. This is not confirmed, but the wide noodles here feel like they're hand pulled. Broth is on point. Beef is cooked well. Definitely a gem here in North New Jersey!

Little Taiwanese restaurant with a pretty big menu. My Taiwanese coworker comes here a lot even they don't live close by. I enjoy their little dishes like scallion pancake, pan fried pork buns, big pancake with sliced beef, pan fried pork dumplings, braised pork on rice. I thought the noodles were Just ok. If you are adventurous they have stuff like pig ears and intestines (not my cup of tea), their spicy as stuff is good too. Overall a good place that should have something for everyone.

Not bad for pretty well priced taiwanese food. I got the beef spicy noodle soup which was not spicy at all and probably could have been more flavorful, but I liked the chewy noodles. Also got the Chinese style fried pork chop (kinda like donkatsu) which was tasty. Xiaolongbao were not the best in terms of taste and a lot of them had broken and all the soup leaked out before we even tried to pick them up. They forgot to bring us the herbal jelly at first but it was probably the highlight of the meal. I don't think I would crave this or come to East Hanover for it but would consider coming back if I'm in the area again.

Spicy Beef and Tendon Soup with wide hand-pulled noodles. Perfect for a cold weather.

Restaurant was about 1/3 full. You don't come here for the ambiance, you come for the consistently good Chinese food. Really the only decent Chinese food within a 20 minute drive of South Orange. This time went with the hot and sour soup (always delicious), scallion pancakes, spicy smashed cucumbers, wontons in chili oil, Mongolian beef, and string beans in garlic sauce. About $94 (not including tip) for all of it. We ate about half and will be able to have a full second dinner with the leftovers. Can't recommend this spot enough.

Didn't get a chance to try it out until yesterday and man, we were missing out. The yunnan rice noodle soups are so good, and different, from the more commonly found Asian noodles; ramen, udon, pho, etc. Not going to say that it's better than the others but it's absolutely fantastic that there's another option now when you just want a warm, comforting noodle soup. Especially since winter is coming. The setup is more akin to a food court than a restaurant so the small seating area is shared with Kam Man and all the tableware/utensils are plastic and disposable. There's a door to the outside basically right there though so unless you're seated to either side of it you get blasted w/cold air every time someone enters or exits. For my first visit I went with their "pickled pepper soup rice noodle w/beef stew" (A8) and it was very good. The soup was flavorful and the noodles were perfect; fresh & not mushy at all. And digging through the bowl was like going on a treasure hunt for lil' yummy morsels: a quail egg here, some wood ear there, a random piece of thinly sliced ham, good stuff. However, for those of you w/nut allergies, they do add roasted peanuts to some of their dishes so you'll probably want to tell them to not add them to your food. The only minor neg with the dish was that the beef brisket was a tad tougher than I'd like. But if brisket isn't your thing, they also have the same dish but with "beef roll" (A7) which I found to be an odd translation for basically thinly sliced beef. I was so enamored w/this noodle soup that I brought my wife the very next day. I went with the same soup base but w/fish fillet (A9) this time and it was just as good as the first time. I will definitely have to come more often to try out their other offerings. I also noticed that they have rice based dishes as well in case you get tired of noodles. So anyway, I'll definitely be visiting a lot more and I really hope they stick around longer than the previous eateries at this location. And while it would be nice (if not really feasible) to get your food in 10 seconds as their name implies, so far their food has definitely been worth the wait.

There was also a variety of really sweet bubble tea with popping boba and ice cream. Dinner included 2 types of crab, crab legs, and cooked oysters. The meat on the pork belly was too hard to bite though. When I went, the fish was left out for a while so the meat was hard, but then later when it ran out, they brought out a new cooked fish which had soft meat.
