We didn't even receive an email notifying us - I happened to see the status change on the AirBnB app. When we asked in a message why it was displaying as canceled, Jason replied: "The booking was cancelled by Airbnb. You may reach out to them directly for your refund." I called the property and was told although our booking was confirmed, another customer booked it after we did, they gave the reservation to the later customer, and there was no undoing it. The whole experience was unacceptable. For future customers' benefit: AirBnB automatically refunds canceled reservations within 10 days. There is no need to contact them before.

The staff have always been really nice and personable and go out of their way to make sure you're settled in well. The hotel offers a complimentary cocktail at check-in at the bar (and it's actually good!). The rooms are very spacious and recently remodeled - so they look great too. I like it being a short walk from King street and the other hot spots - it's in a quiet corner but you're not far from anything. A great pilates studio is on the same street. I've never used the hotel's parking lot because there is plenty of parking behind and around the hotel - it's far enough from the tourist section that not many people are in this corner crowding the parking. As some reviews have commented, the breakfast is nothing to write home about and will be gone in a flash, but this isn't a deal breaker for me. There's also a market across the street. I was also told that "this area does not flood" because the hotel is "inland" - fair warning, during flash flooding and hard rain, a river forms around the hotel and in their parking lot. If rain is coming, I recommend parking on Washington Street on the elevated side, or finding one of the multi-level lots to protect your car. But regardless, love the Ansonborough and strongly recommend!

The home of one of South Carolina's early governors, this place hosted presidents (George Washington) and other historical figures throughout its history. The home is updated but retains that old, original feel. We were greeted by a very friendly concierge in the lobby of the home and educated on the amenities, services and events of the Inn. Our room was in the Carriage House. It was large, up dated, large shower and VERY comfortable and firm bed. We brought our dog - who was welcomed by Inn for a small fee. Parking is also available at a convenient lot in the rear of the property. Safe and secure parking lot. The Inn offers afternoon tea at 4 pm and complimentary sherry, port and brandy from 6:30 to 11:00. We enjoyed afternoon tea after some exploring around town. Iced tea and lemonade as well as delicious treats including macaroons were served in the ballroom on second floor. We sat outside on the iron porch overlooking Broad Street. Views from the porch are wonderful. The following morning, we ordered our complimentary breakfast to be served to us on that same porch. We had Eggs Benedict, bacon, fruit, and a delicious biscuit with fruit. Spectacular. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Pots of coffee were also served with the meal. The next morning at breakfast, we were approached by a woman (presumably the owner) who didn't greet us or ask how our stay was, but instead interrogated us about whether we were even guests. When we confirmed we were staying in the Magnolia Room, her tone immediately became sharp as she informed us--quite sternly--that children are not allowed and that our stay violated fire codes. She implied that we had deliberately misrepresented our booking, which was both surprising and upsetting given our honest misunderstanding. After rechecking our reservation, I saw no mention of an adults-only policy anywhere on the third-party site. The only reference appeared deep in a follow-up email attachment from the inn itself--something easy to miss. While the room itself was clean and nicely decorated, the bed slanted and was uncomfortably soft. More importantly, the unwelcoming and confrontational tone from the owner completely overshadowed what could have been a pleasant stay. This property may suit adults traveling without children, but families--or really anyone expecting warm hospitality--should be aware of how confrontational the owner can be.
