I loved the Linwood's features and the cottages looked absolutely perfect for what we had envisioned for our special day. After inquiring about renting two of their guest houses for wedding preparation and lodging, I received a very snooty email from Linda, not sure of her actual title at the Linwood, clearly asking me to rethink my visit with them due to their restrictions. As "nice" as this may seem of her to do, when I am ready and willing to drop $2600 on a weeks lodging, you would think they could make some accommodations and not be so brash with their response, especially a "I'm not sure what you had in mind for the wedding party to be doing," response. Be warned. If you want to reserve this for a family gathering, wedding party, etc., you are only allowed 4 guests per guest house (rooms probably less), and the grounds (pool, gardens) are only for the guests that are actually staying in the guest houses. Apparently, she assumed there would be rooms full of people getting ready and creating a disturbance on their property. While I understand that B&B's are typically quaint, quiet and relaxing, I nor my wedding party (of 8 - which would have met their requirements) would have disturbed any of the guests staying in the B&B and would have made an effort to remain quiet and unnoticed. Sorry Linda, not only did you lose out on booking your cottages for the week, but you lost out on any future business from our family and others from the Charleston area.

If you are looking for a classic boutique experience with all the comforts of home this is the place! Linwood is clean, bright and nestled inside a lovely garden just outside of the excitement of Main Street. The views from the windows show a mature, well maintained grounds with paths that lead around corners to unexpected sculptures or a bench. The pool is well maintained with a bathroom/changing area just off to the side. The owners are friendly and hospitable without hovering. I was able to comfortably push my stroller and take my toddler for a walk right into the heart of Summerville's Main Street. The shops and restaurants have much to offer in the way of entertainment. I even visited the local art gallery. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely B&B to anyone. The hospitality is exceptional and I couldn't have hoped for a better location.

The hall is warm and inviting, decorated in a very "Halls" like way of dark wood. The catering is provided by Halls and my understanding was there is quite a selection depending upon the budget. I came here for a Medical University of South Carolina Christmas party and it was wonderful and festive. There were three stations. The first was the beef sirloin carvery, with salads, bread rolls, accompanying sauces and a chef carving and serving the beef. The second station was a shrimp and grits table with cornbread muffins. The last table had two different kinds of flatbread. One with chicken and the other with a Neapolitan vegetable flatbread. Although the number of choices was limited - well, relatively for a party, having fewer choices but great ones is far more appealing. All the food was mouth-watering. The portions were small at the carving station, however you could ask for more or go back as many times as you wish. The other stations were self serve. There were two separate bar setups and it was a full bar menu. The wonderful staff even made me an alcohol free "fruity" which was delicious! The seating was a mixture of round tables and farmhouse style long tables, which gives the place a great non-uniform look. There is a second floor with smaller round tables and sofas to make it a more intimate setting. Quite a few chose to bring their desserts here. The desserts consisted of trays of miniature sweet treats; brownies and iced cookies, mini lemon pies and more. I'd definite say that this place is a win! I noticed some meeting places as well with transparent walls good for community gatherings. Some notable places I've seen are The Sanctuary, DandiLion wax studio, and the Charleston Wellness Studio. Upon reading another Yelp review I loved they offer a venue space as well which would be great for showers or weddings perhaps! Something to look into. Another wonderful addition to the Schoolhouse is the picturesque garden next door. Enjoyed the flowers and greenery before embarking on my next task. Very peaceful space.

At any rate, we were looking for a spot to hold our mom's 70th birthday surprise party. We were struggling with finding availability on a Saturday afternoon - church reception halls were booked, other venues were booked, and then other venues just wanted to charge too much for a birthday party (charging us Charleston wedding prices!!). The Schoolhouse actually did not come up in our search, but was recommended to my sister. My sister immediately contacted the Schoolhouse to check availability. They have a couple different rooms that are rentable, depending on size. We didn't need anything too big, so we were able to rent out the Music Room. Small room good for 30-40 people. They supply the chairs/tables with the rental. On the day of, Heather was there to meet us, and gave me her number in case we had any questions. I will say, the only issue was that there was another group that had a function going on in the next room and they had come in and taken one of our tables. So we had to take it back! Not a big issue, since Heather took charge, but it just seems like people don't understand that multiple events can go on. That is the biggest issue that I see with this space, is that people don't understand that multiple events can go on. Obviously, if you are the one renting it, then you know it, but your guests do not. So as we were setting up, we had the doors open so that we could bring stuff in from the cars. Well there were some random people that just walked into and through our room. Do you not see us setting up? Then eventually two people came in and were on the floor giving massages (what in the world??) - not sure if they were tenants or from the other party. Again, do you not see us setting up? We told them we had this space reserved, and they were willing to leave. Then I guess the party next door did not bring enough supplies, coming in and asking us for cups. No, we bought these for our party. I wouldn't say this is a fault to the event center, but a fault to guests/other people renting, to give other people common courtesy. We did end up closing all doors once we got everything inside from all of the cars, and had no other issues. My only suggestion would be to maybe have signs in place by the rental facility showing that "this room is privately reserved today, please do not enter". During the actual party with the room filled, it did get very warm. It was at least a cool night so that we opened the door to the outside to let cool air in. I'm not sure if we knew how to adjust the temperature or if we could adjust it, but that was our means of just letting the building be and letting cool air in. Also, there is ample parking in front and in back of the building. So your guests do not have to worry about having to park and walk or to pay for parking. Overall, I would definitely recommend this space for a party - reasonably priced, with a great setup on how much space you actually need.

Getting to Sullivan's Island was a breeze with a quick Uber. Everything about this stay exceeded my expectations. If I come back to Charleston, I would definitely stay here again.
