Went there to meet up with family. Ordered food & was sorely disappointed. . . Dry Rub Chicken Wings were great but Greek Pizza needed lots of help.. hardly any sign of toppings, tasteless, mostly crust for a princely sum of $28 for a Small/Med. Person who shared pizza with me agreed. Someone else across from me ordered a Wrap & said that too was tasteless, only ate half. There was even a comment about the yam fries being tasteless as well. If you are going to charge high prices for food, you should make it tasty & a good bang for the buck. This was absolutely terrible eats. I won' t be back anytime soon. As comparable on my last visit to area, I had a LARGE Greek Pizza vs your Small/Med, from Boston Pizza & it was loaded & I mean loaded with Greek toppings for around $30.. and it was to die for delicious. There is no excuse for poor food, get a better cook or train the one you have better or you will loose customers that come for eats vs just the beer. Waitress was Nice though. read more

Lovely day to eat outside. This is a true pub. Lots of beer stains for decoration, great wood work and nice people. The coleslaw was just purple cabbage with some sort of sauce in it, but it really had no flavor. The fish tacos and fish and chips were very good. Washed down with a nice cold beer. Love this area and would definitely recommend topping by for a quick bite or slow down and enjoy a drink outside. read more

Stopped here for lunch on a road trip and found the place very quiet... suspiciously quiet, but... went for it anyway. We asked for suggestions and he really got into it, quite appreciated. We finally decided and order the pull pork tacos and the house smoked brisket dip sandwich. They were both very tasty and the meat was specially tender. Couldn't enjoy any of the drinks (they have a long and appealing beers menu) because of the road... maybe next time! read more

We sat down and were told that they were understaffed and it would be a long wait for food. We had a drink and waited to order. It was a total of just over 3 hours to get food. The food was good but it was the most expensive place I have ever eaten. The servers were polite and professional, but I will never eat or drink there again, the bill was outrageous. read more

Drove by some sad grungy looking places in Castlegar that we considered only because we were getting hangry. yelp to the rescue! Right across the river in Robson we found this place. So glad we did! Okay, so strictly speaking, I should only give the BBQ a 4 at best. I'm pretty sure in Texas it's illegal to call this brisket BBQ. But I can't judge Canadian BBQ by Texas standards. It's just not fair. And at least this meat is smoked, not just roasted and tossed in sauce. Plus the flavour is very good. Fries very well seasoned, cornbread moist and flavoursome. If I add two bonus stars for being the only appetizing option we drove by, I'd have to give this place six stars. Plus a bonus star for cleanliness. so happy we crossed the river from our hotel in Castlegar to come here! it was super close, and totally worth it! Lots of great local beers to choose from, and a nice seat on the patio with a great view. The jerk chicken was really good, and I tried a few bites of Jimmy's poutine which was pretty good too, and I don't even like poutine. Service was ok - we asked what beer was available and she told us to go inside and read the board. that's fine, but I'm used to having servers give a few suggestions...no big deal though! read more

What a find! Across the Columbia River from Castlegar, in the settlement of Robson, the Lion's Head is a pub that comes complete with TVs, a pool table, and large patio area. There is really nothing in Robson, a few houses and commercial structures with roots in the Big Bend Goldrush and Doukhobor influx of the late 1800s, so the Lion's Head is a coup for the area. It's no ordinary pub though. They smoke their own meats to create juicy pulled pork and hickory-infused brisket, AND they feature eight taps of BC craft beer at all times. From Crannog Ales to Fernie Brewing, the Lion's Head is dedicated to promoting beer (and ingredients) from the Kootenays. I was very happy with my pulled pork sandwich. It was lightly tossed in the pub's house BBQ sauce, contained crisp coleslaw, and was engirdled by a soft ciabatta bun. My buddy and I also ordered a side of fried pickles to go with our pork and ale, and they were served with an addictively zesty aioli. I only gave this historic pub three stars because the interior is open and rigid looking. Most of the seating consists of wooden benches, tables, and chairs...there are few nooks and cozy crannies. Having said this, I rarely consider the comfort level of my posterior when deconstructing a pulled pork sarnie and guzzling a pint of carefully brewed Crannog pale ale. read more

Yesterday, we had a great hike up on the Robson Bluffs and showed up very thirsty and very hungry. We (4 of us) found a table, it wasn't busy at all, sat down and waited, and waited, and waited. In over 10 minutes not one of the staff acknowledged our existence, let alone gave us menus or took a drink order (did I mention we were VERY THIRSTY). After waiting far too long to be reasonable by any measure we left. We went to the Black Rooster in Castlegar and in far less time than it took us to decide to leave the Lions Head we had drinks and appetizers. Very disappointing. read more

Love this place! Some of the best food in town! They smoke their own meat for some juicy tender goodness. they have pool, Tv beer (and plenty of it), and a friendly atmosphere. Not to mention it's got a beautiful patio to enjoy some of BCs finest scenery. I will definitely be coming back to this place again and again. We went there in late Fall on our pass through Castlegar on a Saturday afternoon. Service was not very good. Only one employee working and she seemed more interested in talking and serving a scruffy guy in pyjamas at the bar than helping us. We ordered a few items including a burger and ribs. Our expectations were pretty high as the server said everything was smoked in house. The ribs were tough and not fall off the bone and were $28... way too much money for what we got. The burger again was very expensive... it was local beef apparently, but I couldn't tell. read more

We visited Castlegar for the first time today. I was lucky enough to stumble across the reviews for this pub, and can definitely say that I do not regret stopping by. Gone here several times. Good food, but better company. The only reason I return is because of the servers. The ladies who work there are beautiful, bubbly characters who are sadly overworked. On busy nights they barely have a chance to talk to customers, (which sucks for me) yet you can count on the male owner to be sitting with a beer. I can almost guarantee that I will find the male owner drinking every time I go there for a meal, that it is now a betting game between my buddies. Countless times I have had to wait a half hour or so just to get served because the ladies are so busy. So I just sit there and watch him drink and enjoy himself, wishing I could do the same as I am a paying customer...... It is sad to see an owner who drinks the stock in front of the customers, when he should clearly be taking orders or doing something to help the busy staff, including his wife?!... Either way, a paying customer who has to sit and wait for service while the owner drinks? There is something wrong with that picture, and he should be embarrassed of his reputation read more
