My wife googled "best burger place in Nelson" and this restaurant came up as the too recommended. We were both starving so we ordered wings as appetizers. I ordered a traditional beef dip and my wife had a Jackson's loaded burger. The beef was amazing and it was served on a ciabatta bun with a horseradish dip that didn't tingle in your mouth. My wife's lodes burger was also great and had quiet a distinct taste on its meat which I liked. I rated 4/5 due to one minor detail as we sis have to wait about 20 minutes for our server to arrive even though there was only one person at the bar and no one else at the restaurant read more

Yes, the name makes you giggle. Housed in an old mercantile building of some sort, there is a great outdoor space for warmer days. The inside is rustic with stone walls and really nicely turned out. On cold days, it would be a great place to hang out. We sat out and I enjoyed a steak sandwich which was recommended by our server - it did not disappoint! Great service and cute menu, but the garlic shrimp pasta was so sweet (and had slivered almonds?) I couldn't eat it... really strange dish wish mediocre prawns :-( sad... I've been here twice now and the food is basically pub food. Very FAST service, appies and food all came at once! Come here for American style pub food but stick to the wings, chicken ceaser salad, things like that... never got to try the dessert but it looked awesome. read more

First off, I found the name of this place to be very amusing. I stumbled upon this place while trying to find another restaurant in town. I grabbed a seat at the bar and had to talk to the bartender before I got any service. I ordered the steak sandwich with a side salad as suggested by the bartender. This turned out to be amazing. The steak was juicy and cooked to perfection. It was topped with mushrooms and sauteed onions. Portion was generous and the salad came with the dressing on the side. We were visiting Nelson as a group of 6 over the August long weekend. We had been out all day and didn't have a clue where we would go for dinner, but it was getting late and on a Sunday night in Nelson it's pretty quiet. We were happy when we found Jackson's Hole, and were seated at their outside patio straight away. We truly appreciated Chris's attention to detail and personal touch to his service, he was very friendly and conversational and we all appreciated his sense of humour. He made our dining experience so much fun. But that's not all: the food was actually really yummy! We thought, since it was almost closing time when we arrived for our late dinner, that the kitchen may not cook us quality meals. But we were super impressed by the tastiness of our meals, the portions were quite large, and we all ate with gusto. I had the Carbonara which is known as a favourite on their menu, and I would definitely order that dish again! Delicious! Great place for a couple of rounds of drinks too! We stopped here for lunch while riding our bikes through town. This place is awesome! The rustic original walls and floor from the 1800's and hard wood bar and cabinets. It's everything a bar ahould be! The best part was the food! Started with calamari that waa the best I've ever had. I asked what the server would recommend for a meal and I wasn't let down with her knowledge of the menu. She recommended about 3-4 different dishes. I had the club house sandwich. It was served on chabata bread with a grilled chicken breast, bacon, cheese, greens and bbq sauce. It was fantastic! The service was great too! New to town we were looking for a family restaurant and came here by chance. The food was delicious, the service great and the ambiance excellent. We left very satisfied. The one low note was the kids fish and chip had a small piece of fish. Our boy gobbled it up and wanted more, which we asked for and they provided at no charge. After touring the town the next day and scouting for a new dinner location we didn't find anything that would compete with their reasonable prices and great food. If it's not broke, don't fix it we said and went back again for an equally enjoyable meal. read more

My wife and I joined some friends at Jackson's Hole for drinks having just completed the Nelson Triathlon. We sat outside on the deck with a slightly standoffish server taking our drinks order. Despite the moderately unfriendly nature of the service most of the drinks arrived ok, apart from one which was brought over incorrectly. However, the promised glasses of water failed to arrive, the excuse given being that 'It's super busy inside'. It wasn't; unless their usual clientele usually only number in the tens. The remainder of our visit was uneventful apart from two of our group almost being decapitated by a rogue sun shade, picked up mercilessly by a strong gust of wind from the table next to us. The servers made short work of removing the remaining shades on the patio, either to avoid lawsuits or having to mop up body parts or both. Despite the so so service we somehow ended up here for dinner too. We arrived shortly after 7:15pm and the restaurant population was somewhat average, various empty tables and the bar / restaurant next door was not too busy either. We ordered drinks, which arrives promptly, other than one glass of wine which failed to materialise for 20 minutes despite much prompting to various servers and another drink which arrived incorrectly made. Service was glacially slow, giving me the title for this review. Earlier that day I completed a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride and a 10km run through the hills of Nelson in less time than it took for us to have a meal here. In fact, I had completed the swim and bike in the time it took for our food to arrive. The food itself was standard pub fare really. Horrifically overpriced by global standards, as much of the food from over aspiring restaurants in BC seems to be. I try to choose meal options to suit the venue, in the hope that they will be more acquainted with its preparation. Jackson's Hole seemed to be a ribs and chicken kind of place, so that's what I ordered. The menu should really have called it 'Kate Moss Ribs and Chicken', both seemed to have been scythed from the 'party yourself slim' supermodel. The ribs clung desperately together using a thin fabric of gristle whilst the breast lay almost apologetically on top, using a congealed blanket of sauce to cover it's under endowed size. The accompanying vegetables tried to gain popularity by standing close to the ribs and chicken, it's 'unattractive friends'. The bed of rice, on the other hand, was ok. This bleak ensemble of protein and carbs set me back an overwhelming $21. Shocking. Multiple apologies throughout the evening of 'Really sorry, we're just so busy' would have been better suited to a venue with more than a handful of other people in it. My wife's Enchilada was fairly terrible. Plastic tasting and soulless. Our friends seemed to fare a little better than us with comments ranging from 'Nice' to 'Too sickly' for their Ginger Beef bowl. When the bill arrived we had been overcharged by a couple of dollars due to an incorrect drink being rung through. read more

I went here with my parents who have had good meals at this restaurant before. This meal was not good though; there was an unopened mussel in the dish of mussels, the fish tacos were terrible, and then they brought my mother a salad without dressing on it, and when she asked for dressing they brought it - but then they charged us extra for it! Last time I checked when you order a salad the dressing should be included. If you have to eat here order the yam fries - they were pretty good. But all in all this place was over priced for food that's mediocre at best. read more

I have eaten here twice on two separate trips to Nelson, both times have been enjoyable positive experiences. The food is fresh and a little inventive while staying comfortably familiar. I was most impressed by the House salad that accompanied my meals. Often a House salad is a basic uninspired mix of greens. Overall a good experience. We sat in the front booth and had a great view up Lake of the snow capped mountains. Our server was a little spacey but she was pregnant so all is forgiven there! I had the classic hamburger which was good, I had to add a little ketchup for flavor. The fries were excellent! My husband had the steak sandwich and surprised to find it was entire piece of steak on a piece of bread (open faced). The flavor was good and all the food was enjoyable. Over the course of a week long roadtrip, we ate at a lot of restaurants. We had heard over and over that Nelson was the town to visit, and when we searched Yelp for pubs in the area, this one came up. Unfortunately, it was some of the worst service I've had in ages. It took the server forever to take our order, and then once we had drinks, it took forever again to get her to come back for our food. The food itself was pretty good - the spinach salad in particular was amazing. But the fact we had gone there to spend an evening, and then ended up leaving frustrated because we couldn't get the server to return to get us more drinks (she even took our plates, saw our empty glasses, and left without asking if we'd like another). It was a poor start to an otherwise cool little town. The bonus to Jackson's is that it's open later than other places in the area.
