I have been to Finleys a handful of times in my life. I typically go there to drink and forget about my harsh reality of being an incompetent moron. Despite the venue always being ear rattling and underwhelming I can't not mention how the beer gives me and my friends the shits every time. Maybe it's just my problem maybe I shouldn't drink beer. read more

We haven't been back for breakfast since last Summer. We went with out of town company. I ordered avacado toast - just plain avocado toast as I can't have eggs. What arrived was 1 piece of toast with a nearly transparent layer of what was clearly guacamole. We questioned the server as to if this was what it was supposed to be and she said she didn't know as she worked the later shift and was filling in. She did not offer to investigate further and just sort of shrugged. We were so stunned that I just ate the soggy piece of toast and moved on. They still charged me $11.95. To be fair, everyone else's breakfast was fine. We should have talked to a manager. It just put me off. read more

We have enjoyed going to Finley's for a number of years, for date nights, with our kids (early evening), various community fundraisers, local bands and talent nights. We appreciate this local, family-owned business with good community connections. Their menu is excellent - a step up for average pub fare, and we have rarely had any issues with the quality. I love the beetroot burger, quinoa salad and the buttermilk chicken sandwich. My vegetarian kids appreciate that the poutine has a veggie gravy! Service has sometimes been a little hit-and-miss, but staffing is an issue for most places now. We ordered take-out regularly during Covid restrictions and service was always great, plus the food stood up pretty well. Looking forward to the expanded patio area! read more

The two stars are for the food. The atmosphere and music and all are fine, but I guess because so many are regulars and there for beer they somehow get away with tiny portions of mediocre food? The deep fried pickles were good, but pickles are cheap, so for 10$ could maybe be generous? Literally only 5 or 6 pieces. Most horrible was the "spinach and artichoke dip with bread"...for about 14$ we got less than half a cup of thick salty stuff with a cooked spinach leaf and a piece of artichoke buried in it, hidden on top by pre-grated from a bag style cheese, sitting on a small plate surrounded by a handful of cheap corn chips. Seriously. Anyone not dead drunk is going to notice there's no caring in that food, not for flavour, texture, or that one is reasonably well fed enough to want to bring friends back again. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite on our way through to Ainsworth. Friendly staff, felt very welcome. They were quick to get us drinks and take our food order. Food didn't take long at all and was good quality. Would recommend as a great lunch or dinner spot if you're in Nelson BC! read more

This is the second time I have been here and the first was not something I was impressed with, but today.....whole other story! The staff were amazing (Caitlyn and Michelle) Sorry, guessing on the spelling of the names! They greeted me right away, were amazing with the prompt service (One asked my for a beer refill, when the other was already on top of it and was on it's way over!). They also have a good selection of Craft beers. They were friendly and attentive and I appreciated it. The food was next, and I had the Duck Bahn Mi....a Vietnamese style sandwich that was delicious! Presentation was nice to. I look forward to my next work trip to visit this place again! read more

Not a bad covered patio, with a great view. Indulged in some drinks. The draft beer was warm. Yuck! They have a poutine menu, the pull pork poutine was awesome. As for the service, extremely lacking. It seemed both of the servers we had were coming down from a weekend at Shambala. There was maybe 10-12 people in the bar, and it seemed like it was chaos. To sum up our service experience. We ask our server for the bill. We waited 20 minutes, and nothing. We went inside to pay and our service asks 'are you ready to go?' I couldn't believe it, 20 minutes ago I asked for the bill and now she asks me that. Wow. If your traveling through and want to go to a bar with real service, go to Mikes Place. read more

Lively pub with good food and a great selection of beer on tap. When busy, service takes time but you can go the bar and just get a drink. Not tons of seating when patio is not open (i.e. winter). Kids allowed at supper time which makes it family friendly. Try the chicken burger, wow! read more

Super Bowl night, Finley's was well staffed, busy, and friendly! Every other night, the sad place was POORLY staffed, unfriendly, and very xenophobic. I strongly recommend looking for other places to recreate. 2 stars earned ONLY from the anomalous one night of international welcome. Otherwise, yuck. read more

Awesome patio. Really good food. The patio has a great view of the lake and is heated. They offer upscale pub food and lovely local micro brew on tap. Reasonably priced. Good choice for a causal, satisfying upscale pub experience. read more

A man in an overcoat greeted us. We thought he was mistaking us for his friends so we moved past him. He called us back and told us where the open seats were (oh...he's the host!!) We strolled back to the lounge seats but we were not followed by any servers. We sat there wondering if we were supposed to order at the bar. My husband finally went and asked the very Irish bartender. She'd be with us shortly, he said. She was...but seemed distracted. She came back to bring us just napkins, not waters and napkins or silverwear and napkins. Just napkins. She took our order on a different trip to our table. The onion rings and beer were good. From the outside this place looked good, the patio hangs off the back of the building with what should be a great view of the lake and mountains. The clap board out front makes mention of a Best Burger in Nelson award and I admit the Havarti and Basil burger sounded good. The patio was a major disappointment for me as it is semi-enclosed but allows for smoking. Haven gotten used to eating without the smell of cigarette smoke this drove me inside. The inside is more Bar than Grill and has no ambiance at all. The burger was tasty but rather ruinned for me by being undercooked. About a third of the burger was still red and uneatable. One plus was the quality of salad, a rather simple spinach salad with goat cheese, but tasty and fresh. The beer was however good, featuring Newcastle Brown Ale on tap always a pleasure to find. All in all if you just want to have a few pints and sit on the patio, and smoke does not bother you, go here. If you want to eat however there are better options. Not relevant to my review but for note, the server took 15% off of the burger for the under cooking. read more

I will never go back. After spending a decent amount of money (dinner, drinks, dessert) we were getting ready to pay and my kid got up from the table to dance on the empty dance floor. To be clear she was not being loud, just dancing. Quickly a wait staff came over to inform me that kids are allowed but only sitting at tables and she would have to sit. Right away I went to get our coats and before I had the chance to dress my kid for the cold outside the wait staff came back again, (my kid was not sitting, but we were clearly getting ready to leave) And she still felt compelled to come back and again tell me we now had to leave because she was not sitting at the table. The food we had today was nice. One person felt her fish tacos were too spicy, but everyone else thought they were good, as were the several other items we ordered. Having said that, worst service ever. I had to serve us our own water, got up and asked the bartender for another round, after waiting 15 minutes with empty glasses with the server not coming back, and he literally refused to get us the drinks! Had to get up to get our own silverware, and had a drink request entirely missed while our server visited with another table for a looooong time, There were three tables in the entire place and no one at the bar. BRUTAL service...and I still gave a small tip, which I regret. I know the owners and like the food but was so pissed about how we were treated this afternoon that I doubt I'll go back. We were very happy with our stop-in to Finleys. A table on the rail on the back porch was available. Great view. And no one was smoking so that was great. Friendly staff. When we said we were celebrating our anniversary (#45!) the manager gave us our first drinks on the house! We were just looking for an appy so just tried the onion rings. They were hot and crispy with not too much coating. We finished them off! Rain forced us indoors and it is true that the atmosphere is more bar than grill. It was not a crowded evening so we watched the end of a NBA game on the TV. Overall a great spot. read more

Terrible service. Staying over night in Nelson we walked around a while looking for a place to eat. We chose here. The place was nearly empty. Long story short. The experience was a regrettable one. When I asked for ice water and got a glass of water without ice. No big deal I ask for a glass of ice and pour it into my water. The service was relatively slow considering the lack of people in the place. We ordered food that was fine. Nothing special. It was interesting seeing my dry ribs come on a bed of fries. The fries were good and I couldn't finish either so I was going to take them to go. As we sat looking finished and ready for our check we got nothing. Our waitresses lack of interest in us is starting to wear on me now. After about ten minutes I just took my bowl up to the bar to get a to go box. Clearly annoyed at this point. I was given an oversized box for my small order by our waitress and i put it into the box. Then as I was getting my card out to pay I dropped the box on the floor. Luckily my waitress cleaned them up and threw them out for me. Then proceeded with the payment. Not a discount, not an apology, nothing. I am still seriously annoyed at this experience. The service we received on this visit was one of the worst I've had. Lack of interest in us as customers left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

good food, especially the tapas bar. Servers need a little more training, you can feel invisible, if they walk by without acknowlegment, a simple I will be right with you goes a long way. As a lunch/beer downtown, the last couple visits the server just drops a menu and glass of water and leaves, elsewhere they will say can I get you something to drink. Then you are happy. This little mistake costs them sales, more beer would be drunk, and creates that frustration of extending the wait unnecessarily.
