We had an excellent lunch today. We split the chicken club and fries and it was super tasty! The waitress talked us into Cajun chicken, so glad she did. The beers were ice cold and my IPA was reasonably priced at $6 but the Mic Ultra also being priced at $6 seemed pricy. They split the meal for us at no extra charge. My experiences at this restaurant have always been positive. I can tell it is well liked by the locals based on how busy it is every time I go. Staff is friendly and the food is yummy. Here's what I ordered: 1. Blackened Cajun chicken with mixed greens and mashed potato: the chicken breasts were very juicy and the Cajun spice was on point! I thought the spice was a bit too salty and spicy for me so I was very glad I got the mashed potato to balance out the strong flavour. 2. Quesadilla with chicken: This was probably my fifth time ordering and I still enjoy it every single time! Excellent food and service!! Our waitress EMILY was the best!!!!! I ordered the classic pizza but substituted the onions for tomatoes. Was so good! On my last visit, I spent about $200. The food was so so. The service was slow. It took an hour to get our meal and the little children didn't get their desert until about 90 minutes. It was busy when we arrived but many of the delays occurred when the dining room was virtually empty. Normally I like this restaurant but not this last time. read more

Have traveled through Castlegar on many occasions. On our most recent visit, we stayed at the Super 8 Hotel. We had a few drinks in our room and called to get a cab so that we could head downtown to get Chinese food. However this Monday there were no Cabs operating? Anyhow, we ended up eating at the conveniently located Black Rooster grill in the Hotel. We had eaten here previously and while our experience wasn't bad, we had decided that we would try something else out on our next visit. We had a few appys to share and then a main course each. The appys were ok at best. I had the meatloaf Mac n cheese. It was tasteless and not as cheesy as it should have been. Pretty bland. My friend had the haddock. Seemed like the crust was an afterthought as it wasn't fully crisped or cooked. It was not a good dish all around. read more

I often take my parents here when they come to town. The food has always been excellently prepared. I recommend the dry salt and pepper ribs for starters. I absolutely love the green curry bowl, such wonderful flavour. Comfortable atmosphere. The staff was friendly. Food was ok at best, somewhat typical bar food. The last 3 times we've been the service was horrible. Waited 20 minutes just to order drinks, the restaurant wasn't even busy, there were maybe 3 other tables. The last time we were there (and it is the last time I go) I noticed that they include 15% gratuity on your bill! Maybe it's the exhaustion from being on the road, but the Black Rooster was everything I wanted it to be. I had a "Got the Blues" burger and sad I was not after wards. Blue cheese and caramelized to perfection onions on an actual hamburger. None of those from a box, frozen patties here. But the details of the service is what really sells me on this place. The Black Rooster shares the lot with the Super 8 hotel. I ordered my meal for pick up from my hotel room. I arrived expecting the styrofoam special, but instead the bartender asked if I wanted my meal on a room service plate. Hello, take out on a real plate...yes please. Whatever arrangement has been made with the hotel regarding dishes, please keep it. Furthermore, the same bartender invited me to a beverage as my meal wasn't quite ready when I got there, instead of leaving me to twiddle my thumbs waiting. Had I not been alone on my trip, the Black Rooster surely would have an equally fab experience as the decor is chic, inviting and perfect for date night. read more

My wife and I had dinner at the Black Rooster on Sunday, July 20th while passing through on vacation. There is both a bar side and a restaurant side so you have your choice of noise/activity level. We sat on the restaurant side which was nice and quiet. Our dinners were very good. I had the Seafood Fettuccini while my wife had Haddock I believe. The true star of the evening however was our server. When we got up to leave, we asked her name. Unfortunately, neither of us wrote her name down but I believe it was Kay. Hopefully, she'll see this and reply to my post if it's incorrect. She's a young lady. And her manager/boss needs to know that she is a real keeper and is exactly the kind of server that a restaurant like this should have. She gave us the best service, was always attentive without hovering, and was just so nice and was always smiling. Thanks for making our evening so enjoyable! read more

Nothing wrong with this place. I had a burger and it was more dry than I like in a burger and the toppings were alright...fresh at least. The burger was thick but not juicy. I wouldn't put it up to win any awards or nothing....Caesar salad was alright too but how can you screw that up? read more
