Thank You Lionsgate for these extraordinary movies that you produce, I for one can really appreciate the hard work that goes into making a film. Now this: During storytelling in John Wick 3 when John goes to Morocco to ask Sofia for help, we are introduced to her two guardian dogs. These two dogs are wearing designer clothing, as well as Sofia. Not one time was there a reference to the dog clothes that they are protective armor. John could have guessed this about the body armor, but what about the movie going audience having the same insights of what it is we are seeing? Next: While John and Sofia are facing Berrada up on a rooftop there in Morocco, we see the two dogs at Sofia's side watching Berrada. John is off to Sofia's left side just behind her a short distance away listening in, he's at the ready but remains unarmed. Berrada wants one of Sofia's dogs and she tells him no. Berrada removes a weapon and shoots the dog on her right side which then falls to the ground. The other dog remains still at Sofia's side. Sofia bends down to her injured animal and finds the bullet that knocked her dog to the ground wedged in the now disclosed bullet proof clothing that the dog is wearing. We audience can accept this as something that's not too important to the movie plot but here's the problem with the way it played out: This is when Sofia says to John "he shot my dog". This is a pivotal point for Sofia, and so she then has to fight her way out of there, for a dog. This war of John's was over his dog and now Sofia gets it more than ever before. The fallen dog should have been left to die there on that rooftop, but, no dog is left behind which would only complicate matters for Sofia. So the dog lives. The story could have continued on with just the remaining dog instead of keeping both dogs throughout the show. Matter of fact, for such a violent movie as it already is, a head shot to the one dog would have been better story telling in my opinion. How Derek or the other writers discussed this scene, we may never know. Next: So Sofia pulls out the hidden gun from the fallen dog's body armor clothing and shoots Berrada. All of a sudden, the fallen dog that was at Berrada's groins while the other dog stayed still. Okay, I get it. The dog was angry that Berrada shot it, but shouldn't this groin mauling have been done by the other dog for retribution reasons? Yes. These dogs are not robots like the Adjudicator presented herself as being. Next: Here we still are not completely clear of what we are seeing with the dog mauling Berrada. Derek and the writers group left out this very important piece of storytelling information for the seamless threading of continuity. We needed to see the fallen dog either dead or getting up on it's feet and not just magically appearing in the scene as it was edited. Sofia needed a brief time of emotions, a single tear perhaps to convey to us her loss of a friend or the feelings that now brings her into John's war. Another suggestion would be for the other dog to do the groin mauling. We aren't sure what is going on with the dog or are there still two dogs? Later on in this scene, we see now, for the very first time since the one dog was shot by Berrada, that there are again two dogs fighting for Sofia. One dog was enough had the other dog been actually killed. Two dogs or one isn't going to make the story any better, so why not just let the one dog die and the only one become a lost soul just like Sofia and John are with the one remaining sidekick of Sofia's? In my views of this movie scene, it's still reeling and so here's my reason for writing. Please be more considerate of us film goers with these finite storytelling details as this one was to see and wrestle with until the end of the show. Being that this was the starting point for Sofia, and for her reintroduction in Wick 4, something very important was missed here during this scene and for the story itself, but fret not, it will soon be all forgotten about as all movies of this genre do for movie goers. Who's approving these manuscripts is my question? Are there not readers involved in the process of script development? All the best Derek and Lionsgate's John Wick series of films.
