I've driven past this theater multiple times but it didn't seem particularly enticing to me based on the exterior. But I am SO GLAD I was recently afforded the opportunity to finally check it out when I was granted tickets to a screening/Q&A of Omaha. They only have 1 screen but I loved how it's a great balance between vintage + modern. Usually with the former, you expect uncomfortable seats but I found these to be quite comfortable, with plenty of legroom and good stacking of rows so that your view isn't compromised. The theater itself is spacious AND gorgeous in its own right. May sound silly but I also judge movie experiences considering concession - here, although there are only a couple of operators, they run the lines efficiently and their popcorn is fresh and tasty (even when the butter topping is administered on their end). I could see required street parking being a challenge but I haven't had an issue in the surrounding areas that time, or since. Yes, after this screening I signed up for the Landmark Theatres loyalty program because I knew I'd definitely be back. And already have, for another Q&A (the film Forge). I love that they screen indie films and extend opportunities like this for fairly reasonable prices. read more

Big theatre. Nice seating. We were there to support an indie film called "Forge" from a first time director Jing Ai Ng...and to support our friend who was an actor in the film Raymond Ma.. Concessions was open. Seats surprisingly reclined if you pushed then back, old school. Great ADA seating! No need to do stairs into the main seating area. Lobby was festive. Their staple -- screenings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. People lined up for it outside the theater, as we were leaving the indie private screening. After literally DECADES of driving by the Nuart and seeing people lined up for the midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show we finally made it! I don't go to the movies a lot because all the 1-2 screen theaters I like to patronize have closed and keep closing so any chance I get to see a picture at an independent theater like the Nuart or Aero I'm in! Given that it was past 11pm, we easily found free parking in a city lot a short 2 blocks away which is so rare these days.... both the finding close parking and it being gratis. Getting in was hassle free because we had arrived a bit closer to the start time so the line of people waiting to enter had already subsided. The restrooms were clean and the lines at the fancy concession stand were also short. The concession stand really impressed me. There area all types of snacks and beverages including a good variety of beer and wine. The seats are hit and miss and by that I mean you're either going to love them or hate them because they aren't the traditional reclining seats. They're velvet not vinyl and "sort of" recline. If you're tall you're going to love all the leg room. I would return to the Nuart to watch a movie, but probably not for the Rocky Horror Picture show because while I appreciate that a whole new generation is carrying on the cult following for this quirky film, I much prefer the wittier short call backs of yesteryear to the long drawn out dialogues of the newer generation. PARKING: Parked at a small lot and walked five minutes over. There is street parking but I get too nervous. SEATING: The seating is very funny. It's like a recliner but not fully. You have to keep the weight on it or it'll snap back into the original position but I didn't mind it. I just got scared everytime I leaned back and the seat leaned with me. Very comfy regardless though! SERVICE: There was only one employee and he was very nice! Quick and prompt and helped with all my questions. FOOD/SCREEN: Single screen theater and it's pretty cozy! Lots of seating! The popcorn was standard but popcorn always is amazing during a movie!! Had a small drink and it was from one of those free style machines. Went to the Nuart theater in west LA with my girlfriend and 3 other people from her meetup group to see the rocky horror picture show. Although I have seen it in theaters before this was my first experience with a shadow cast. The Nuart is a fairly small theater, right on Santa Monica Blvd and just a few hundred feet off the 405 freeway. Parking can be challenging, there is some street parking as well as a few pay lots in the area. The the seats manually recline if you slide the seat cushion forward while pressing back on the backrest. The snack bar serves beer and wine along with traditional movie snacks. Which is nice if you want an adult beverage to enjoy while you're watching the movie. The rocky horror cult classic is a must experience in a theater show. read more

Went last night to see a late night showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show with a shadow cast. While I enjoy the movie (I have it on DVD) this is my first time seeing it in a theater along with a shadow cast. It's something to be desired TBH. The theater itself was on a smaller scale than I'm used to and the seats had good cushioning but would rock as opposed to recline without intention. We didn't purchase any concessions but they did have some alcohol available for those who want it. The rest of my group found the event interesting Would we be back? Probably not. This is the 3rd time i am reaching out to you to try and resolve an issue. I am a long-time Landmark patron. I purchased 4 tickets total for the movie, The Teacher in Los Angeles for the Nuart . I bought 2 tickets for the April 18, 7:00 PM show and 2 for the April 19, 7:00 PM show. I tried returning the two tickets for the April 19 show, but the website gave me an error message, and the return never went through. Nor did I get a refund, so I gave my tickets to my friend, but your usher told her that the tickets have been refunded. Which is not accurate, as I have not received a refund. We love love the Nuart Theater. It is now owned by Landmark. The entire movie house has been remolded, but keeping the great neon on the outside. It is a one screen theater, thank goodness and it is so comfortable. They show art films, Indie films, older films and they are famous for their 11:00 pm showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show which is the most fun you will ever have at a theater. The audience dances and sings the songs, people dress up as their favorite character and they have a cast of actors who are on the aisles and the stage acting out the parts and just saying the most funny things. Some people go there a lot. This was our first time and we had so much fun. Do not take children unless you don't mind dirty language and sexual jokes. I took my grandson and he loved it. He is old enough to know what he is not allowed to repeat and he was welcomed by everyone. The people that go are super nice. The theater itself has a lovely lobby, great snacks and really nice staff. The place is very clean and as I said remolded. The seats are so comfortable. All new and there is a nice rise between rows so you can see. They have a great choice of movies so go there and have fun. Parking is on the street or there is a lot near by. I have time to write a review for The Nuart. I love all theaters really and Nuart is just one of those theaters that etch a memory. I've seen Julia Ducournau's Raw, Human Centipede 2, Wet Hot American Summer, Enter The Void, and others. Every one of those screenings have visuals in my mind I can play over and over. Wonderful times. I want to talk about my most RECENT experience. Opening weekend, Saturday night for GDT's FRANKENSTEIN 35mm. Packed house. Amazing popcorn. Good vibes. No bullshit. Great customer service! But let's talk about seats D1, and D2....my seats. That are directly under a fucking air conditioning vent. I'm a dude and normally I can take SOME cold weather but my god I haven't put my arms in my shirt in a long time. For its 2 and half hour running time that cold ass air was blasting right at me. Has this been anyone else's experience? Have people complained about this? This is in no way knocking the theater but my god I'll never ever forget watching that beautiful film and being tortured by 60 degree fan weather coming down onto me That being said...I'm watching WAKE UP DEAD MAN there this weekend and I am NOT sitting in that fucking section no way. read more

4+ and old school movie theater that usually plays art house films that you typically can't see at a lot of other places, which is really great. I lived in the area for so long and I can't believe this was my first time ever coming to this theater. The folks here are super friendly and organized. I think there's only one theater in this entire building, but they do choose some really interesting films. I came here to watch "Farewell My Concubine". The seats in the theater are a little uncomfortable. They slide and recline when you don't want them to slide a little bit. It's not a huge big deal though. Oh, and I'm not sure if I was hungry that day or what, but I really loved the popcorn here. It tasted really delicious that day. Really fresh and the salty buttery flavors came through. Definitely a fun place to watch films and a great neighborhood to grab food before or after. I would recommend, especially if they were screening a film that you were interested, which I would assume wouldn't be playing at a lot of other places. read more

Really wanted to see Problemista, but it was a very limited release and had come out a while ago. However, Nuart was still playing it so I grabbed tickets (~$16 bought in-person). The theater is so cute from the outside and just as cute on the inside! Definitely a great theater for cinephiles as all the movies that were advertised to be showing soon at the theater are i die flicks. The movie attendant who helped us buy tickets and was also doing concessions was very nice. Theater itself was big and spacious and very clean, and the chairs are comfy! Not a modern reclining chair, but still reclines (when you lay back instead of when you push a button). I had a great experience and will come again! note: we parked across the street where it was free because it was Sunday - as far as I know, there's no parking lot specifically for the theater. read more

The screen looked fine, but I wish it were a bit bigger for a theater of it's size. I thought the sound quality in the theater was okay. I have been frequenting this movie theater for years because they specialize in art-house, independent, foreign and cult film! We need more theater like this in Los Angeles (aren't we suppose to love movies in this city?) with one screen and an interesting selection of movies. I have been here to midnight shows (always a good experience) and also in the afternoon/evening times. They have updated it at some point. I never had an issue here with the screen, the sound or the seating. The audience is mostly OK, but even here you'll find rude people from time to time who leave a lot of trash after the movie ends. Can't you pick up after yoursleves, folks, did you grow up with servants or what? Parking - leave early to hunt for a spot on the streets around, that would be my #1 tip. Whether buying tickets online or walking up, visiting the Nuart is an absolute pilgrimage every film lover should undertake and experience. I've been visiting the theatre on and off for 20 years. There is nothing more exhilarating than checking out these fantastic film grounds to enjoy the latest and/or the great genres of filmmaking. I've seen documentaries, foreign films, midnight movies and the most innovative, independent cinema here. Honestly when visiting, it's an entertaining, exciting experience and I feel truly blessed every time going. This is a small theater with a single screen. It's an older theater but looks like it's been renovated. They had a pretty extensive concession stand. Definitely get the popcorn! Don't know what they do to make it so special compared to other regular franchise theaters, but their popcorn was extra tasty...buttery, salty, crunchy, delicious! Sat in the back and still had an unobstructed view of the screen. The seats recline a little but the chairs aren't very comfortable, definitely noticeably so if you're watching a longer movie. Otherwise, it's a nice and simple no-frills art house theater playing some of good indie films, foreign movies, and older classics. read more

This place should always be full! Highly recommend!! I went here on a whim to see a movie I knew nothing about, and it was a great experience! $16 ticket, there's food, drinks (including alcoholic). The place is clean, it also has a lounge in the front. The staff tonight was very polite and diligent. The theatre was pristine, and clean. There was a viewing that had just let out, the staff went in, and it was ready pretty quick they were out and it was ready. I liked the vibe and everything about it. Theater is friendly which is pretty easy to do because I feel a lot of the patrons are regulars and there often isn't a lot of us. They've remodeled which is nice as well. It's a little out of the way for me but they often are showing features that aren't available elsewhere. read more

I came to this theatre for a show and was pleasantly surprised. The seats were very comfortable. I liked that they were talk so you could not see if someone was sitting in front of you. I felt like there was privacy. I was also impressed with the concession stands! They had lots of snack options and drink options (alcoholic beverages too). They also have various events (Rocky Horror Picture Show every week; Q & A). Personally, I saw the Oscar nominated shorts here. THEATER: Only one theater but it's large. The seats are surprisingly comfortable with ample leg room. CONCESSIONS: Great. They serve booze (with lots of options incl. craft beer and White Claw). Various snacks for sale. They also have an awesome food menu with vegan options. My expectations were rather low but I was pleasantly surprised by the Beyond Meat vegan sausage hot dog. It was delicious (Beyond sausages always are) however they added an amazing pretzel bun which took it to the next level. They also have a ton of condiments to choose from. It was terrific. I always go to 11:59pm show so we never have trouble with parking...everyone is always super nice, there's a cute little lobby...bathrooms are clean!! Food!!! that's my favorite part! Only theater where I find Veggie Dogs! So that's a super plus!!! Popcorn is delicious!!! They also serve beer & wine!! So that's another huge plus. OK so... I think this place has undergone some changes since I was last there and it's better than ever. The concessions now include some substantial food (mozzarella sticks, empanadas, mac & cheese bites and more!) and they have beer and wine available(!!). Also the seats seem new... updated with cup holders and not the older outdated mushy seats I remember. Went to a documentary screening that included a Q&A and the staff was excellent at handling the questions from a packed house. This one screen little gem has always boasted an outstanding selection of indie films and now you can get yourself an adult beverage and some real food while watching arty flicks. There's a stench arising from the seats. A pretty large single theater, even so -- the outside box office is closed and forces you to buy tickets at the concession. But that places you in front of, face to face, with high-end snacks, in particular, designer chocolate and ice cream sandwiches...priced competitively. This is a plus. It's the only artsy-fartsy movie house in town showing Nyphomaniac, Vol 1. Wish it didn't, as I definitely won't be seeing Vol 2. read more

The Nuart is a Landmark chain theater, so they get great films, IMO. I was there to see the Captain, a German World War Two film, with an interesting Q and A with the director. Located on busy Santa Monica Blvd near the 405, parking is best in the city owned lots south of SM Blvd. Otherwise it's street metered parking, which can be tough. Uber or Lyft would be ideal. This place seats maybe 400 people with reasonably comfortable old faux leather seats. The flooring is concrete with no carpeting but I guess that makes it easier to clean up after a rowdy Rocky Horror Picture Show midnight screening! LOL. I found the staff to be both friendly and helpful. They let somebody in while they were still closed to use the restroom. There is one bench that seats 3 in front of the theater, otherwise you have to stand while waiting to get in. Prices are about average for LA tickets. I used MoviePass, which has online ticketing for the Nuart. You can reserve your ticket the same day as the show on your smartphone! read more

It's not a huge mega plex type of theater but the seats are comfortable and there is a LOT of leg space in between your seat and the people in front of you.
