They have a great collection of everything from rare stones to ancient fossils. Their art mixed with these rare objects is quite exquisite. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. Also... they are willing to make "deals"! You may be able to shave off a few 100 bucks on your 100,000 dinosaur leg or cave bear skull. Don't overlook the smaller trinkets and vases. Lionshead jeweler, fossils, and minerals. There are very few stores that touch me as much as this place. I can name three, this being one of my top three! Fossils and minerals are and have always been museum quality. They also have some very unique pieces of jewelry. Amad and I became friends when I walked into his store the first time that was in 2013. It's always a pleasure to see him, work with him and to see the new creations that are in his store and on display. My Girlfriend and I had just returned from the top of Lionshead peak. We were walking through Lionshead village and noticed how dead it was. It was the weekend before the winter season so it was understandable. I passed by the window and saw a Mammoth Leg Fossil in the window. I did not know what sort of store this was but knowing my son loves dinosaurs, I had to check it out. Once inside I realized it was a fossil/gem/fine jeweler store. We were greeted by Gina and were welcomed but not pestered. We meandered our way through the store looking at all the curios before getting to the jewelry section. I paused at an even bigger Mammoth leg fossil that was from shoulder to foot. That was when Gina engaged us. We struck up a conversation about the area and exchanged where we were from. There was no pressure to buy anything! Which was nice. Mind you, Vail is a pretty bougie area that is a playground for the more well off population. It was obvious we were from out of town and just looking. DO NOT LET THIS REVIEW FOOL YOU! there are plenty of things (fossils, gems, minerals, jewelry) that a person of lessor means (like my blue-collar self) can easily afford. While we were browsing, a gentleman walked in and said he was looking for something for his wife. Gina had helped him quickly and he was in and out within 5 minutes, I heard his bill had come to $16K. Shortly after, I asked Gina it retrieve a snowflake necklace that was $125. It was exquisite and she treated me with the same amount of respect as the guy who just spent money on what for some people could be a new car! Like I said, we were never pressured to buy anything. We may have talked for about 45 minutes or so. We spoke about some Native American Jewelry my mom owned (I inherited) that was very similar to that which was in the store. Gave a lot of back story and spoke about its worth. We continued talking to her about the area and it was just the most pleasant and romantic experience. When we get back to Vail again, I will be sure to make another trip to this amazing location! read more

Amazing store to browse so many cool rocks and fossils. It is kind of like a museum! I was looking for sterling silver jewelry. It's not all displayed in one place so you have to look around in multiple cases. I found a beautiful charoite ring at a reasonable price but it was so tarnished and dirty I basically said to the sales guy that I would only buy it if he cleaned it for me. He gladly obliged and shined it up real nice for me. I was surprised so that such a nice store would let the jewelry in their display cases get so tarnished. Seems odd. Overall though, very cool store and I am super happy with my Charoite ring- my favorite souvenir from Vail! read more

Jewelry doesn't really float my boat. I don't wear it, and the only person I really buy it for realizes that my taste in jewelry (among other things) leaves much to be desired, and will thankfully just tell me what she wants. So jewelry stores hold virtually nothing for me. Except Lionshead Jewelers. This is a surprisingly large store filled with a few glass cases of your standard gold, silver, diamonds, etc., and a much wider selection of all sorts of amazing geodes, fossils, wood carvings, meteorites and more. Nature's jewelry, if you will. (And nature's a way better designer than Kay.) I must admit that there's little to no chance that I'll be in a position to purchase any of the awesome stuff in here in the next decade or so, but if I had a gigantic mansion I would totally stock up on Lionshead stuff. I'm also not sure who goes on a ski trip and decides to buy a sheet of meteor for five figures, but I think I'd like to be friends with that guy. His ski house is probably dope too. Interesting store more focused on fossils, large crystals, meteorites than jewelry. I was fascinated by what seemed to be a large number of museum quality pieces in the store but the only downside for me is I have no way to gauge if the pricing is anywhere in the realm of fair for these items. I also wondered to myself how secure these items could be shipped (if that was even an option). I never asked about shipping because I did not come close enough to wanting to make a purchase. I think the bottom line is this store is worth a visit no matter your intent on purchasing just to see the things they have for sale. read more

This store is filled with one of a kind pieces and beautiful things I never knew I wanted to own. We stopped by three times during our most recent trip to Vail, spent more than an hour onsite, and had time permitted, we could have spent much more time exploring. The owner provided plenty of personalized attention, including some education on the history and origin of the fossils, stones, and gems on display. His passion was infectious and we wound up buying a beautiful ammonite fossil we will proudly display. read more

A letter I sent to their website today: Attention Manager of Lionshead Jewelers, I visited your store today in hopes of finding a gift for my mother. I was visiting from out of town (I live in Northern California) and was excited to see a place that might carry the unique something I was looking for. My mother had been searching for the right amber pendant (with insects) for years and I had thought I found the right store with the perfect selection. From the looks of it, you probably had what I was looking for, but as soon as I asked the lady working today (tall, dark hair) which pendants exactly had insects, she took a look at me and my boyfriend, smiled and said "yes, some of the necklaces do have insects, but we don't have the time to look through them all to find which ones." Now let me make perfectly clear that besides myself and my boyfriend, there was maybe one other customer in that area of the store. Your worker was NOT busy and, with the least amount of respect I had ever been approached with in my "shopping life", made extremely clear to me--words, body language and all--that she had no interest in selling to me even though I had done absolutely nothing out of the ordinary besides ask her about your selection. I was so offended, I rushed out of the store without taking another look. I realize looks may be deceiving, and that in this retail industry, it can be very tiring to go through the work, pull things off the shelf and try to sell someone who may not ultimately buy. However, your employee was severely mistaken in my situation. I am young, but for the right piece, I was ready to pay upwards of $2000 on the spot for something I liked. I do not know whether your employee's treatment of customers is typical of your store, but I hardly think prematurely profiling and screening your would-be clients is good for business. Vail is such a beautiful, welcoming town, that I was flabbergasted that I was not equally welcome in your store today. I do not know when I would next be returning to Vail, but your employee really put a damper on my day, and I sadly cannot say that I would ever recommend your store. I hope that you will work on upholding a store-wide principle of respect towards your future customers. And should your employees feel like screening your customers is a must, let them know that the most wealthy are often NOT decked out in designer clothing. Lions head jewelers is quite a spectacular place. It is practically a museum with all of its fossils, and even a prehistoric bear skeleton. I do have one significant complaint however, I was in lionshead jewelers for 45 minutes, and while the sales associate acknowledged and assisted every male that came into the store after me, he neither greeted me nor took the time to tell me about any of the fossils, for me or another woman in the store, as he did the other male customers. This behavior was quite insulting, it is unlikely I will be back. read more

I went to Lionshead Jewelers the fist time with my family, and had a great time. The sales persons are very professional and educated. We got tour with my family, my kids could hold a meteorite and it was fun. I got for my kids a little meteorite, and a great ammonite for our living room. Because of the meteorite and its story, the kids will remember the great store in VAIL, with museum quality fossils!I I highly recommend to stop by to see what they have and ask the friendly sales persons any questions!
