Black Raven brewing has very special seasonal drinks that I always find here; Festivus is like a magical festival in your mouth obviously (take that as you will) and their Grandfather Raven, that usually only goes in the more expensive bottles, is another canned treat I like to dip into from here; and so the list goes on to impress me. read more

My son and I just visited the store for Father's Day in hopes of finding some delicious bourbons to enjoy. The onsite Manager Rob introduced himself and after telling him what we were looking for based on our pallets, he was gracious enough to take us over to the tasting bar to sample a handful of amazing whiskeys which included some amazing store picks. We grabbed an allocated bottle that I couldn't pass up, and another bottle Rob recommended which ended up being the best bottle of the bunch. This is a tough one. The owner of the store is such a nice, charming man. Most of his employees are great as well...as long as the manager isn't there. He changes the whole mood to tense and dark. Walking into the store, you can instantly tell if the manager (older gentleman...name rhymes with Gob) is present. He makes everyone walk on egg-shells. I feel bad for the regular employees. Their selection of whiskey is pretty good, but he said you must wait over 30 days between premium bottle purchases and that it's "my discretion" if he's going to sell you another one. Obviously the poor guy has some personal life issues he's bringing into work with him and I do hope things improve for him. read more

Pretty impressed with this place, they had what we needed when we couldn't find it anywhere else. For by business partner's fiftieth, we bought him fifty 'airline' bottles of whiskey. Turns out there aren't many places that have a huge selection of airline bottles. When we couldn't come up with fifty different ones, someone recommended Liquor and Liquor to us. They had plenty of unique brands to finish out our fifty bottles and then some. The guy working had lots of info about which ones were good, and was exceptionally cool about making time to help us with what I understand was an obnoxious request. Highly recommended. read more

Whenever I need whisky, brandy or rum for my traditional English Christmas baking, this is where go! The staff here are so incredibly friendly! Jessica was so interested in what I wanted the ingredients for she took the time to look it up on line. We had a lovely chat about Christmas cakes, Dundee cakes, Christmas pudding, and mincemeat. Being active duty, it's really hard to become a "regular" anywhere. I've moved 5 times in the last 8 years. I recently had a son, and wanted to get a 2020 BTAC set for him. I thought sharing it when he turned 21 would be a really cool story, and experience - especially it being a set from his birth year. The last bottle I needed was a Thomas H Handy, which this store informed me they had. However, they refused to sell it to me because, and I quote, "we see 10 hunters in here a day that buy and sell stuff online, so we only save these for our regulars". I just moved here two weeks ago. It's extremely disheartening knowing that the fault of the few becomes the penalty to the many. If you treated everyone like a regular, everyone would become a regular. Now instead of buying that bottle from you for $100 over retail (which is what it was being sold for), I will be forced to buy it online from someone who probably is considered a regular somewhere but still wants to make money. Stores are the driving factor behind the ridiculous prices listed in secondary markets for this exact reason. They make stuff so hard to get, people begin to pay more to those who can actually get it. Although me no longer buying from your store will not hurt your business, I hope others find elsewhere to shop as well. read more

This place is simply the BEST. David does an amazing job with his stores (also owns "proper and ernest" in Woodinville). His staff, lead by Riley and Neil, have yet to steer me wrong. In addition to their sterling recommendations, they're incredibly personable/approachable. I've also learned a great deal thanks to their vast knowledge of spirits, beer, and wine, as well as the industry. The inventory strikes an ideal balance between quality and value. They've got it all...and if it's something off the wall they somehow don't have...they'll go get it! By far the best place for libations I've experienced in the South Puget Sound, and it's not close. I stopped into Liquor & Liquor for the first time yesterday and was really impressed with their selection and friendly, helpful, knowledgable staff. One of the gentlemen spent quite a bit of time educating me on workable rum choices for recreating the elusive 1944 Trader Vic's Mai Tai. He helped guide me toward high quality products with the correct flavor profiles while also considering their price points. The store is clean, well organized, and staffed for attentive customer service. They happened to be hosting a port wine tasting when I visited, and while I didn't partake, it's clear that this wine and spirits business embraces opportunities to educate their customers. I will definitely be returning in the future; pricing is competitive, and I'd much rather support a local business than give my money to big box liquor stores like BevMo or Total Wine & More. read more

Today was my first time going to this liquor store just because of the convenience of it being so close to where I was at and I loved it! There were a lot of staff members working at the time so there was no trouble finding help and all of them were more than happy to assist. I was offered samples of wine with cheese and crackers which was really nice to snack on while I looked around. I was excited when they passed the law allowing bigger selection of liquors and wines into the state, however we have experienced some backfire in the form of taxes. Anyhow these guys have an amazing selection of liquors and mainly single malt. Plus they are knowledgeable of their selection as well, which is something you don't see much in those mega-stores. Friday and Saturday they also holding tastings and help you become more educated on certain brands or liquors. Check them out, you will definitely not be disappointed. read more

I really love Liquor & Liquor and I hope they continue to do well, especially in this crazy-competitive market of alcohol sales (now that it's not a state-run business.) The best thing about this place is the friendly and knowledgable staff. They have a very nice and broad selection of everything from single malt Scotch to vodka to craft beers. I must admit that a larger store such as Total Wine & More has a much much much larger selection. But that is a chain and a little more corporate - if that means anything to you. I am a big single malt Scotch fan and have become somewhat of a collector of Scotch. There are bottles here that you can not find at the aforementioned TW&M so it's worth a stop in. They also have quite a large selection of tiny sample bottles which is nice to try new liquor. read more

I cannot say enough about how knowledgable and friendly the staff is here. My girlfriend had her birthday and I needed something very specific - not only did they happily call their rep and get it for me, but they also went above and beyond and hooked me up with some merch as well. This is really a fantastic place for all of your liquor needs. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They have a great collection of unusual and interesting things. Having lived in Scotland, I thought that I knew a lot about Scotch, but one of the staff members turned me on to Japanese Single Malts. He asked about which Scotches I liked, and said, "In that case you'll probably like this Japanese Single Malt." They fill growlers, and have my favorite beer, Mac n' Jack. The store does not have that sterile look that the old state stores had. I also like supporting a local business, rather than the giant megastores. They also price match local competitors. Not your average liquor store. I stopped in here for the first time this week in hopes of finding a local vodka the Safeway next door doesn't carry. I was pleased with the selection of local spirits, ciders and brews. I found what I came for and also received a helpful recommendation for something to pair with it. The customer service really is on point. After I mentioned that I was buying a gift, they offered to wrap it nicely for me. They also do liquor tastings on certain nights and have beers on tap. On one hand I don't want to tell you about Liquor & Liquor because I want to keep it to myself. On the other, I want this excellent store to get all the business that it can. For reasons beyond me, I have, in the past year or so become something of a whisk(e)y collector. Not a connoisseur by a long shot. But I started pulling on a thread of interesting whiskies and seem to just keep pulling. In the process I've done quite a bit of research on spirits. I guess I've surprised myself. For me this is a strange interest. But I know for a fact that I can walk into L&L right now and take a picture and challenge you to identify the bottles that you would be hard-pressed or unable to find online or anywhere else. There aren't a lot but they are there. I did order a couple things from the UK recently because they can't be gotten in the states but I always try buying at Liquor & Liquor first. Any time I've asked about something they don't have on the shelves they readily check to see if they can get it. I have investigated many liquor stores in the area. I can honestly say that L&L is not just the best store in Tacoma but I haven't yet found a better one in the region. They have a partner store in Woodinville which I haven't visited. But I suspect it is as good. The folks are nice. And informed. I generally come in armed with my research notes and look for specific things. I guess I don't ask a lot of questions. When I do ask I get very good answers and the exchanges I overhear with other customers sound very open and informative. So many liquor stores in the area just have that guy who sits behind the counter and just sort of watches you shop. The folks at L&L are genuinely engaged. I think it's worth noting that if you go to their web site and look over their list of whisk(e)ys it is not always current. By that I mean there is a fair chance that you'll find more in the store than on the online list. So it's worth popping in to have a look. At this writing there is Taiwanese whisky on the shelf that is not on the online list. Taiwanese whisky you say? Look it up. read more
