The Liquor Outlet is plan A. Nearly always less expensive than Wegmans, Total Wine, and Gary's, and with a deep selection of spirits, wines, and beers to rival any other store. As a whiskey person, I especially like the extensive selection of store picks and single barrel selections. They've got your Maker's Mark Private Selection and your WhistlePig single barrel, stacked deep in the back right corner and with tasting notes. As a red wine person, I love that they carry Ridge Wine's Three Valleys, Geyserville, and occasionally their other zins, for way less than direct from the vineyard. I called to ask a simple question: whether they ship wine to other states. I said, "Hello, I was wondering if you ship wine to other states?" The woman who answered responded, "No, we do not," and then followed it with a sarcastic-sounding, "Nope." Her tone came across as dismissive, cold, and as though my question was an inconvenience. There was no courtesy, no apology, and no attempt to be helpful. It was a very disappointing first impression. As a potential customer, I expected basic politeness, even if the answer was no. Instead, I felt like I was being brushed off. Customer service matters, and this interaction was enough to make me decide not to do business with them. It doesn't matter if they have the best wine in the world--even if they handed me a bottle wrapped in gold for free, I still wouldn't support a business that treats people that way. read more

The selection is comparable to a kid at a toy store. Not only did I enjoy seeing the different brands carried, what sets this place apart is the trip I took to "the vault". Not only did I find an affordable vodka but was taken away reading the different ways of distilling all the bourbons, wines etc. (that I myself can't afford,) but had a quick dream about a day with them if I could. This was my first time to my local liquor outlet. I may have had a different experience if I were browsing all the liquors, but I'm a beer guy, and I was not impressed. They had a large NJ display of local beers, but they were practically all in cans. Wegmans has bottles. Wegmans also has a much larger variety of all beers, local or otherwise, and finally they have better prices. I'd love to support my local place, but let's face it, after browsing here for a half hour and not finding the right one, I went to Wegmans and found exactly what I wanted within 2 minutes, and for a couple dollars less than most of what Liquor Outlet has. I hate directly comparing two places, so I'll throw in Shop Rite also having a better selection as well. Combine that with one-stop food and beer shopping at the other places, and my first time here is probably going to end up being my last time. read more

What an amazing selection. Was passing through on my way back home and mentioned to the clerk I was looking for whiskey I can't find at the ABC stores we have in Virginia. He proceeded to point me in the direction of an entire wall of barrel picks and an alcove of high end bottles all priced better than I've ever seen in the wild. As soon as I walked into the door Weyerbacher beer was sampling beers and giving away beer glasses to anyone who purchased two six packs/four packs of any of the beers that they were sampling. So you know I ended up with a brand spankin new beer glass. When I walked into the beer isle I actually said out loud, "OH. MY, GOD!" and the store clerk who was stocking the shelves looked over and while nodding said, "First time?" I must have spend twenty minutes just staring at the different types of beer and trying to figure out what type of beer I was going to get. I ended up gerting a couple of rare imports along with the two packs of Weyerbacher beer that I sampled. ... and then I found out that there's another two isles of beer! ::head explodes:: Also, they have the largest selection of cider that I've ever seen, like a good five to six feet of isle. It might not sound like much, but when's the last time you've seen that many different types of cider? I didn't bother taking a deep look into the wine and liquor, but from the look of it, they have a pretty gpod selection of that too! Liquor Outlet is my absolute favorite liquor store in Morris County, I have not found any other place that equals their good selection and low cost. For the beer people: three long aisles of warm beer by the six, twelve or the case, including an entire wall of special bottles and unusual craft beers. Plus another 21 (that's twenty-one) coolers with cold sixes and individual bottles! To be sure there are so many craft beers in the U.S. now that no retailer can stock everything, or even half of everything, but they're trying hard here. For the wine people: four long aisles of wines from all over the world. Every day 20% discount on a case of regular-price bottles. For the liquor people: one entire wall is covered floor to ceiling with every imaginable spirit and cordial. I get into a bit of a brain freeze trying to pick something here :) Free beer and wine tastings every Friday and Saturday afternoons too. Holy crap on a stick - this is the 2nd largest beer selection I've ever seen in one place, with amazing prices. As a devotee of belgian beer, IPA, Lambics and many many other varietals, this place was insane. Allagash, Great Divide, Lindenmans, Victory, River Horse, Cricket Hill, Troegs, Rochefort . . . the list keeps going and going and going. Easily 700-800 different beer options at your perusal at good to great prices. Wine selection is good, and liquor is decent (great prices there too) but 3.5 aisles of beer including the wall of amazingness (see photo) makes this place a beer mecca in my mind. If you love good, hard to find beer and live within a 30-mile radius, this is worth a pilgrimage. read more

A great selection of craft beer, and very knowledgeable wine enthusiasts. I drove here from Morristown and it was worth the drive. So I recently moved into the Boonton area less than a year ago, and this is the closest liquor store to me. Rarely is the closest option the best one, but in this case I got lucky. REAL lucky, let me tell you a little bit about this place. As for liquor, they have one of the most impressive collections of whisk(e)ys - and every other kind of booze. Far better (and bigger) selection than the other big names in the area (Wine Library, Gary's, etc), and awesome prices as well. For beer, they're clearly the best retail shop I've been to in NJ, they have all the domestic options, but also an incredible selection of craft brews (including some hard to find gems). The part that brings them over the top here is their stock of sixtels. You can peruse their walk-in fridge which normally has 50-100 craft sixtels you can buy on the spot! Awesome for your home kegerator! This is all great, but what was most impressive to me is their wine. They may not have the sheer VOLUME that some of the larger stores have, but they have to best SELECTION for sure. Just like with liquor and beer, they get some hard-to-find great stuff on the shelves, but the people are so knowledgeable. One time I went with my cousin to grab a few bottles myself while he was restocking his cellar, and Greg led us around recommending and describing various wines within our price range - for nearly an hour! My cousin ended up buying far more wine than he'd originally intended to as it was just such a good experience. So yeah. This one's worth going out of your way to get to! While I'm sure this is a good wine store, and I know it's a decent liquor store, it is a great beer store. I went here after seeing it on the way to Bevacqua's Reservior Tavern. I found out the Tavern was closed on Sundays the hard way and thus wandered over here, as it was hard not to notice the big building when driving by. It was a good consolation prize. They have a small selection of bottles available by the single, with some stuff actually worth checking out. They have 2 aisles worth of cases of various basic and more rare beers, as well as a very good selection of craft 6 packs (Dogfish Head, Anchor, Victory, etc.). Everything is at warehouse prices, so this is a good place to stock up. Where they really shine though, is the aisle full of 750ml bottles. Their selection is pretty staggering. It's about 3/5 American and 2/5 imported bottles. I can't comment much about the foreign stuff as I don't know nearly about much, but I saw rare brews from bigger brands like Chimay and Lindeman's represented. The American side I can comment on, and it is awesome. All the usual suspects like Dogfish Head, Southern Tier, Allagash, and The Bruery, as well as more rare stuff like Ballast Point, Avery, and even the Lost Abbey. That's right, this is the only place I've been able to find beer from the Lost Abbey here in the NY Metro area. The staff as others have commented includes a few big beer guys, and they are very worth talking to--especially if you don't know your way around. The wine-style tags labeling the various different styles help quite a bit though, showing a beer's rating on Beer Advocate, the staff's opinion based on a few metric, and a general description as well. The prices are also very low except for a few brands like Dogfish Head (still lower than average). If you live by here and love beer, this is a must visit. Even for me an hour and change away, it is still worth a trip now and again to stock up. Go! read more

This store has a huge variety of everything you could want: wine, beer -- including a large selection of small and large single bottles -- ciders, all sorts of spirits. The Scotch and rum selections caught my eye, in particular. The prices are good, too. I make a point of visiting the Liquor Outlet every time I'm back east visiting my family for the holidays. (I buy my dad the same hard-to-find single malt every year.) The staff appear helpful, though I've never asked them for help. All of the large single bottles of beer come with descriptions that note the IBU and SRM of each beer, which is useful. There's a huge parking lot, and it's right off the freeway. Sometimes I'm here so often I worry I'll send the wrong impression but I I really try my hardest not to shop anywhere else. The selection available is huge from wine, to beer, etc etc. Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about specialty/craft beers but I do know I like them a whole lot more than your average mainstream product. They have tons to choose from--a whole wall of extra special beers. In terms of your more traditional Buds, and Millers they have all that....they also have PBR in bottles or cans which is great when you need to get your drink on and keep to you budget. Recently I've started avoiding gluten in my diet so it's super helpful that they have gluten free beer here as well---and not too bad (red bridge ok new grist better). I def could go either way on the staff. The manager has been super helpful with me in the past but he can come off a little intimidating, most of the guys that work the floor are decently friendly and know when to leave you alone. The cashiers, I don't know, I realize ringing people up is pretty mundane but sometimes they're downright rude---other times they just get you in and get you out which I'm fine with. Honestly even if they were always rude I would probably still come here because the price and selection is the best around in my opinion. read more

Not only are there literally hundreds of rare, craft, and micro brews to choose from (both singles and packs), but there are several beer guys there who really know their stuff. This comes in handy when you're staring at the wall of glory that shelves more beers than Homer Simpson can dream of. Under normal times I like to support small business. Unfortunately during these challnging times it is hard to get through on the phone to place an order and forget same day. With the very limited hours and change in hours twice in the past 2-3 weeks I decided short term to go back to shopping at the local Parsippany Shoprite as it is much less painful. Hopefully when there is some normalcy I can get back to shopping here but it has become too much of a hassle here now as the website isn't the greatest, the hours are extremely limited and getting through on the phone is a challenge. The incredible selection of craft beers is among the best in the state. It would be impossible as a beer fan to come here and not find something to your liking. If you are a beer aficionado this is must stop. Wine selection is very good but not spectacular. Prices good to average and same with the selection of the hard stuff. Small humidor is stocked with cigars and they are always fresh, though a bit pricy. Staff is hit and miss. Some are very knowledgeable and some have no clue what they are selling. In a place such as this I think the staff should be thoroughly schooled in beer, wine and spirits and be able to discuss the product if you have questions. Some of the staff is very helpful and some seemed too occupied with doing whatever they are doing to assist you. Overall a great place to stock up, but docking it a star for the staff and unspectacular prices. read more
