I have always been happy with the results. I should have written this review a long time ago but at the time I was too emotional. I've never experienced such unprofessionalism from a doctor or office. (And I worked in the medical field) What's the saying everyone is nice when things are easy. True colors come out when things get a little tough. I went to Dr. Breuner because of pain in the ball of my foot. Turned out, I had a fracture from all the tennis I play. Simple enough, wear a walking boot for a few weeks to let it heel and it started getting better. Dr Breuner was great and everything seemed straight forward. However, I was worried about transitioning from the walking boot to regular shoes because Dr Breuner told me these types of fractures don't heel well due to the lack of blood supply. I only had 2 months until I was supposed to hike a 5 day Inca trail to Machu Pichu. I had no time for a relapse. To transition, she put me in bilateral rigid orthotics. All of a sudden, things got worse. Worse off then before. I could barely stand or walk. When I told her she curtly explained I just needed to get used to them and stop compensating. I asked her why my left foot which didn't have a fracture was just as bad as the right foot? I had developed bilateral plantar fasciitis and was spiraling the wrong way. Instead of helping me problem solve, Dr Breuner became defensive with every question I had. I felt I was hitting a dead end and more importantly running out of time. I now had only 1 month till my hike. And I could not walk! I decided to seek out a second opinion. To help the process along, I asked Dr Breuner's office for my medical records, chart notes and x-rays. No sense in repeating it all. I was very honest in telling them when they asked that it was for a second opinion. Their demeanor immediately changed. When I left her office that day, my instructions were to follow up in a week. However to my surprise, when I called to schedule, the office told me she had discharged me as a patient. I was completely confused and dumb-founded. Asking for ones medical records should not be a reason to throw a patient out. Needless to say, I was pissed. Mostly because I wanted to go on my hike. And secondly, because I wanted a professional who would dialogue and discuss treatment options with me. She provided none of that. Instead she took the cowardly way out and discharged me without my knowledge. All said and done, through dialogue with the second doctor the treatment Dr Breuner gave me wasn't wrong just not right for me. My feet got worse with rigid orthotics. I needed flexible orthotics. Once I understood that, iced my feet literally 10 times a day, and went to a masseuse my plantar fasciitis went away enough that I completed the inca trail to machu pichu. So be warned if you question Dr Breuner or ask for your medical records. You too may be treated unprofessionally and discharged unexpectedly. Janet Lau read more

I saw Dr Breuner for Plantar Fasciitis and the first visit seemed promising. However, I gradually began to get this feeling that she was inclined to prescribe remedies and prescriptions to milk my insurance. It felt awkward because she does come across as rather nice. I found it also odd that she prescribed a an expensive food supplement called Limbrel 500 which does nothing to help acute pain. Once prescribed, the distributor incessantly called me to try to arrange for refills (which I declined). I ended my visits and instead made the long drive to Stanford for treatment. They recommended rest, taping, a night splint and typical anti-inflammatory medication. I recovered in two weeks. read more

This poor review is not meant to be a reflection of Dr. Breuner's medical skills or bedside manner but rather a reflection of the billing procedures her office employs. Dr. Breuner was fantastic in providing me the care I needed, so in that respect she deserves 5 stars. I found her very kind and knowledgeable and would recommend her to my closest friends. However, my recommendation would be preceded by a warning to beware of how the office visit, medications dispensed, and labs requested are billed. Below is the reason for my warning: When I arrived for my recent visit I was asked to pay my copay of $20, which I did. When I asked if there were any other charges I was told that there wouldn't be. I asked this question again before leaving and I was informed there would be no additional charges. About three weeks later I received a bill from Dr. Breuner's office for $20 for a small bottle of medical treatment I was given during the office visit. When I received the small bottle I was given the impression that it was a sample, not a medication I would be billed $20 for. At no point did anyone inform me that the medication I had been given would cost me $20. If someone had, I would have first requested a sample to assess its effectiveness or at least a less expensive option. About a week later I received another bill, but this one was from ValleyCare Health System for $150 for lab work Dr. Breuner had requested on my behalf. While I knew I would be getting a bill for lab work, I never expected it to be this high. The reason for the high charge was due to ValleyCare's labs being out-of-network for me. In Dr. Breuner's defense, I can't fault her for not knowing my unique insurance arrangements. Ultimately I accept full responsibility for the charge since I failed to be savvy enough to inquire about the lab company that would be used on my behalf. However I am deeply disappointed Dr. Breuner doesn't have a policy in place to always ask her patients what lab company would be best to use. This is an essential question all doctors should always ask before ordering lab work given how expensive out-of-network lab services can be. If she had asked me such a question she would have saved me over $100. My recent experience at Dr. Breuner's office is representative of the major problem our healthcare system faces today: lack of billing transparency. Patients are rarely told how much their treatments are going to cost, can't easily compare prices and performance across clinics, and have very little recourse when over billed (unless they are willing to deal with a major credit stain for seven years.) Despite the good medical care I received from Dr. Breuner, the financial surprises that resulted from my visit to her office have left me frustrated and eager to look elsewhere for future medical care. read more

Went to Dr. Lisa Breuner in Pleasanton. I had the nail growing into my foot. She fixed my foot problem without causing any pain. I was amazed as I heard from others that it should have been painful. My daughter saw Dr. Breuner, many years ago for plantar warts. We have been seeing her primary care doctor for them for months. Dr. Bruener treated them in the office and in a couple of weeks they were completely cleared up. We were very impressed with her skills and efficiency. It is funny how things become part of the family lore, Dr. Breuner became part of the family lore -as in go to the right person, an expert. I recently found myself having foot pain, and decided to see the expert, Dr. Breuner. I'm glad I did, I've had this irritating pain for a while and in less than a week I am pain free. I have not had any physical therapy, but I am going to go because it was recommended, and I don't want my pain to return. I like the doctor and her expertise. I like the office staff. If I had one recommendation it would be to invest in digital x-rays, I would prefer to have a lower dose of radiation that digital x-rays provide. read more

I went to see dr breuner for my big toe pain multiple times and she could not understand the problem. Her excuse was since my big toe is bigger than the thumb, thats why it hurts. I was like 'what the hell'. What kind of podiatrist would she be if she cant find the cause of so much I was going through. She did not try anything neither referred me to any other doctor. As a patient of record, I expect to be seen by the doctor if I am in pain.; Her office staff however, refuse to schedule appointments even when you tell them you are in pain. The first time it happened, I asked what I should do. I was told to go to the emergency! This was during normal business hours.No offer that they would try to fit me in! If for every foot problem, I should go to the emergency, why do I have a Podiatrist? I brought this to the doctor's attention the next time I saw her, and she agreed with me saying that she would have a talk with the office manager. She assured me that this was a one time event and would not happen again. The next time I called with pain, the front desk asked for my name. I assume they had flagged me because, when I told her I was in pain, she told me to go to emergency! As soon as I opened my mouth to argue, she told me to wait on the line for the office manager and put me on hold. After a 20 minute wait, I gave up. You have to be able to trust your doctor.This is not the way to treat your patients. Her office staff is rude and incompetent. Dr Breuner herself is caring and wonderful. But I have to ask why she doesn't audit and review her office staff. They have free rein to do anything and be rude to anyone read more

I have personally been seeing Dr. Breuner for about 15-20 years or so. I do have to say that I'm really picky in choosing my health care team. As an X-ray technologist I'm really careful about choosing a Dr. not just for myself and those close to me. Six of my family members also see her from my recommendations. That includes my daughter, husband, and my parents. I would not send my loved ones to her if I had any doubts about her skill. She has always always been right on her diagnosis and treatment every time. My daughter was really struggling with her ankles and 4 weeks after we followed her treatment plan she is back to walking and biking again thanks to her. Thank you Dr. Mills and staff for being so great at your job. If I trust her with my loved ones then I can recommend her to all of you as well. She is not just a phenomenal physician but also a very caring person as well. I can't say enough about how happy I am with the care of her and her awesome staff as well. I have known Dr. Breuner's work now for over 15 years. Not only have I had the pleasure of experiencing her top notch care, but I have been referring my own patients to her as well. Lisa is not a Podiatrist who is going to come right at you with surgery as the only option. She will sit, listen and come up with a list of options that you can be comfortable with. Although I my Chiropractic clinic is in Orinda, my patients do not hesistate going to Pleasanton for consultations. I was seen by Dr. Breuner for a sprained ankle. She was completely ineffective in treating me. I had to request every test, image, treatment, apparatus and referral. 4 months in, I learned from a competent doctor that I should have been off the ankle and wearing a walking boot from the beginning. I have been going to Doctor Breuner for about 4 years. I have found her office appointments rather open and easy to get. Her staff has always been pleasant and I have had no billing issues. Her bedside manner is very personal and pleasant. I am very thankful she sees military patients as Tricare does not compensate the best. Foot docs get a bad rap, but I have her knowledge exceptionally helpful and spot on. Since receiving the custom fit orthotic insoles, my foot and back have significantly diminished to the point where I no longer regularly take any pain medications. Orthotic insoles in combination of better quality shoewear have greatly improved my health. While I could have went cheap with off the shelf insoles, the prescription and design she provides has gone far and above what I expected. I have been going to this office for years due to major foot troubles and have been very impressed and grateful for the care I have received. Dr Breuner has been very helpful in getting to the root of the problems that my general drs should have caught and treated. You don't find drs willing to go the extra mile and take the time to make sure the patient is cared for properly anymore. She is not one who talks surgery as the "do all, end all" solution. In fact, I have never gone under knife the whole time I have been going, which I appreciate. I have never had any negative dealings with the staff in 12+yrs. They know me by first name and greet me upon my arrival. Most of the staff are long time employees, which I think is a good reflection upon the business. As to the other complaints about the billing, yes, it can be annoying dealing with a third party billing. Well, that is the wave of the future-check Obamacare requirements now and you will see why all drs are being forced to go this route. Seriously, it is the patient's responsibility to know what labs are on your plan. It is very time consuming to find all this out, lots of wasted time on the phone and computer as sometimes even the drs are not up on insurances . But we have no choice these days, and it is only going to get worse. The days of easy payments are over. read more

I had been to Dr Breuner quite a long time ago but remembered how gentle she was. I recently injured my big toe and the nail and knew exactly who to call. Dr Breuner's staff was friendly,and courteous. I was really upset about going to my appointment because I just knew she would have to give me a shot and remove my toenail. WELL, I went to my appointment and I was so relieved that all she needed to do at the time was trim the nails back. I felt NO PAIN, NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. I read another negative review on this site about her staff and I agree whole heartily. Lazy, comes to mind. I have never gone to a doctor who doesn't do their own medical billing. Oh, they'll accept Medicare, but if you have a secondary insurance, you're on your own. Obviously, they don't need my business. read more

I saw Dr. Lisa Breuner last year after suffering from Plantar Fasciitis for a few months. I did not know much about this problem when I visited her. She informed me of the problem I had and sold me expensive custom made Orthotics, night boot, and anti-inflammatory compound cream. She also paid attention to unrelated issues like removing small harmless callus (for $120). I kept walking on my feet and I got worse and worse every day. Finally after a few months, I went to another Podiatrist and he gave me anti-inflammatory medications, some stretches, recommended icing and robbing my feet on a golf ball and firm instruction for not excessive standing and walking on my feet. I got better in a few weeks and in couple of months, the problem went away. I give Dr. Breuner 1 star because she only showed interest to those aspects of my problem that could bring revenue to her. She was very short in providing instructions or explanation. She did not advise me of not excessive walking or standing. She did not recommended simple stretches or icing or Physical therapy. She could easily treat my minor Plantar Fasciitis with one visit, but instead she brought me many times to her office and sold me expensive stuff. I do not recommend Dr. Lisa Breuner to anyone. read more

Dr Breuner is great. I'm on my feet all day, moving around probably 5-10 miles per day, then I run (ultra distance) too. Been to 7 or so other Podiatrists having orthodics from them all. Dr Breuner has made my orthodics (the best ever) for 11 years or so now, she helps with my neuromas also. As a Dr treating a patient with horrible feet, she never says "you got to stop running" she just helps me to do so as comfortably as possible. Her staff is very friendly and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes in the waiting room for my appt.
