Update 6/8/2020: Dr Chan's horrible and sloppy unethical dental work continues to cause me harm and pain and money half a decade later. One of her crowns splintered 4 years ago, only a few months after she placed it- requiring extraction. Today I had to get a root canal because another one of her crowns- done less than five years ago- had to removed and replaced because it was causing leakage because it did not cover my tooth properly. The new dentist I work with was shocked at how short it lasted and how bad of a job was done. I still cannot believe all of the ethical breaches she did (doing additional work to begin a partial crown as she was drilling another tooth and without sitting me up to explain) and to this day don't know why a lot of the work she did which are now causing me problems and complications, were necessary. She said I needed so much work in such a short period of time. I was a student at the time, who didn't know better, so she took advantage of me. Everything I've needed to get done after that was because of the bad work she did and not new cavities. Thinking about it makes me shake. I can only hope this can be a cautionary tale for others. ---- Dr Chan is the worst dentist I've seen in my life, and given that I've had a number of dental procedures in both the US and 2 developing countries, that's saying something. Within a years, one crown she placed had fallen out while I was eating and within two years (today), a partial crown she did had also fallen out while eating. These are the unambiguous mishaps as a result of her dentistry which has put me in a bind: I end up having to pay double to get the procedure redone elsewhere because I don't trust her to do anything else to my mouth. That is just the unambiguous part. Another beyond appalling thing occurred when i visited her to do a crown on one tooth. she started doing a procedure on one tooth and then during the procedure when I was under anesthesia, told me she needed to also do a partial crown on another tooth. I was in a daze when she said this so must've nodded and so she began a very painful drilling process on my other tooth- one which we did NOT agree to at the beginning of that session. The professional/ ethical thing to have done would be to at least have me sit up, face to face, explain to me why the other tooth needed a partial crown preferably when I was not under anesthesia. To this day I do not understand why that partial crown was necessary. The one that fell out today was this partial crown. I cannot believe how incompetent this person is and am fuming that I underwent as many procedures with her as I did. If you don't have bad teeth or a history of problems, you're probably in safe hands based on the other reviews. Those procedures don't require skill and risk possible breach of ethics. If you do, spare yourself the physical and psychological pain, possibly unnecessary procedures and time and money and find another dentist. read more

I see both Dr. Chan-Flagg (general dentistry) and Dr. Brooks (orthodontics) and I will never go anywhere else. All of the team are friendly, fair, and work hard to communicate often (it is a general delight to get a call from Jorge to confirm my office appointment and I feel instantly brighter when I get there). As far as the dentistry and orthodontics is concerned, I always feel heard and my concerns treated seriously, including follow-ups and check-ins, and it never feels rushed. Strange to say that I always walk out happy from a dentist appointment, but that is actually true. The cutest therapy pup ever doesn't hurt! But more than that, I feel very fairly treated when I go. During COVID times, Dr. Brooks really went above and beyond the call of duty to keep my orthodontics treatments on track - and when there were billing issues, which there were due to offices being closed and implications to timing, she worked hard to meet me where I was for billing issues or found a way to push with the provider to make exceptions so I wouldn't have to worry about it at all. Times are tough for everyone right now, even for those lucky enough to have a job - and I am sure this office is being hit with the same challenges, trying to keep business afloat. It meant the WORLD to me that Dr Brooks would do what she could for me, and I would love to return the favor at least with a review but definitely with a recommendation to anyone looking in the area for a great place for all manner of treatment. 10/10! read more

Although I loved the office (especially the doggies), we've both now had bad experiences. I have a filling which I'm scared she botched (the tooth is now extremely sensitive). Never liked DDS. In fact my teeth are proof. I went to DDS. Rubenstein in Santa Monica and confirmed my disdain for DDS. They have the worst money hustler ever working for them. She goes as far as asking you to ask your parents for a loan, get a car loan, use credit cards, borrow from friends, etc. Unbelievable. Since I had to see a dentist I tried DDS Lisa Chan-Flagg on my own. No reviews. I just picked her name out from my medical book and hit the jackpot! My expectations of DDS have been by far the worst until I came here. I felt like I was with family and everyone treated/treats me as friend and not just another patient. I don't have anxiety like before and look forward to seeing DDS Lisa. Jorge is great and is on top of his game with insurance answers and Myra is gentle, friendly and amazing. My teeth are beginning to look nicer and this journey has been life changing. Being able to smile again because I finally have a DDS who genuinely cares and does what she can for you -is amazing. My son is now coming here. I totally give her all the stars from someone who NEVER had a good experience with DDS. read more

As it turns out, they give a thorough cleaning, but when it comes to minor preventative procedures like fillings, THEY WILL SCAM YOU!!! Get your teeth cleaned and get out! I recommended this office to my coworkers and what happened, Dr Chan-Flagg recommended that I and all of my coworkers to get crowns. She only made this recommendation after she had already started filing away our teeth for fillings. What are the chances that all of us needed crowns. All seven people in my office who went there needed this minor procedure. People typically get crowns in their middle ages. My office has an average age of 25. What is more frustrating is that she only recommends doing the procedure AFTER she has filed away most of your tooth. In the middle of the getting a filling process, she drops the bad news about needing a filling and then she makes sure your insurance covers it (it did) and starts scraping away at your tooth. It is a very upsetting process. I had never had any major work done, not even one cavity, and she told me she needed to do a filling, which turned into a crown. She is such a SCAM! I REALLY REALLY wish I had got a second opinion. One coworker did, and her new dentist said that she had nearly perfect teeth, while Dr Chan-Flagg said she needed over four fillings.Again, and I cannot stress this enough, I really that I had received a second opinion and hadn't been scared by Dr. Chan-Flagg into doing the procedure right away. If you are given an unusual diagnoses by her, have her stop work IMMEDIATELY and go somewhere else. I feel terrible that I recommended her office to my coworkers :( read more

Have been going to Dr. Chan since 1997. My impression is that she is very good, has all the latest and greatest technology, and has a much more personal touch with her patients than other dentists I have been to. Cool office, great location, wonderful staff, love the therapy dogs. I'm guessing that the reviewer who libelously threw the word "scam" out there doesn't know about all the free dentistry she does for people who can't afford it. Not really something you would expect from someone who is just after your money. Nor all the money and time she gives to the Salvation Army and all the other community service she is involved in. I finally don't dread going to the dentist. The staff is very professional and do a great job. My 1 year old daughter was also seen here and she did great. The cleaning was so gentle but thorough, I didn't feel like my gums were being ravaged during the cleaning as I normally do which is so painful. This is a far drive but worth it, the dentist is ethical and won't try to sell you things you don't need. The Dentists and Staff are very well trained. read more

Dr. Chan was a breath of fresh air--there is no other way to say it. She is first and foremost concerned with patient comfort and satisfaction. I found the Dr here on Yelp and boy is she a god send. She is amazing. She makes you feel comfortable and is extremely personable. She explains every thing to you in layman's terms and doesn't try to use excessive medical speak. Finally, she does amazing work. I called Dr. Chan's office needing to come in for an emergency, due to some major teeth pain, and to my surprise they were able to take me that day and right away. I had a great experience from the front desk staff as well as Dr. Chan. Everyone was very friendly and gave me their full attention while my teeth were in pain. Her office manager Jorge greets you and is super helpful with discussing payment plans and what your insurance will cover in order to make sure you are never overcharged. I purchased a Groupon for a teeth whitening session back in March, and realized that it was about to expire so I quickly called and was able to make an appointment to come in the next day. There was ample amounts of parking (I found it easiest to park in the SM Place lot), and save for a little confusion as to where the exact entrance to the building was, I found the office without a problem. They were able to take me in promptly, and the staff was nothing but friendly and hospitable. Dr. Chan-Flagg had a very warm and outgoing personality, and told some amazing stories from the work she does for the Salvation Army and the community at large. It allowed me to feel very comfortable in a dentist's office that I was a total stranger to :P The dental assistant was very good at explaining each step of the process and why she was doing it. There was even TV to watch and a remote to make it all go by a little faster. She usually has one or two of her therapy dogs in the office, but for a reason I cannot recall they were unable to be there that day :( The only downside I had during the entire process was some of the sensitivity that I experienced. A couple of teeth bothered me at random times for a little bit afterwards, but that went away. The sensitivity continued into the night, but was gone by the morning. And my teeth are plenty pearly and pretty!! I actually gasped aloud at first when I saw the results :D read more

I know this is unusual but I really do not mind going to the dentist any more since going to Dr. Lisa Chan-Flagg. Her office is very beautiful and illuminated with natural light. The natural light and office environment are very relaxing Dr. Chan is very meticulous to the finest detail on her work. Her staff is very helpful and caring. What I find very special is the use of a Golden Retrievers as therapy dogs in her practice. Bailey, Jake, and Nate have become my special friends. Dr. Chan-Flagg rotates the days the dogs work and each one has its own special way of caring. The combination of Dr. Chan-Flagg's excellent dentistry in a great office with a caring therapy dog was something I thought only happened in the movies.
