I gave my insurance information during my first visit, had a one on one meeting with Dr Satvat to review all cost prior to moving forward with treatment. Was told 2x my insurance would cover root canal and xrays leaving me with a balance of $1000 for a porcelain crown. IN THE MIDDLE of my treatment, the Dr comes in while on the phone telling me my insurance isn't covering the procedure. Mouth numb, laying there, I am perplexed why she is telling me this after they've had my insurance info for 3 months and I have not received any insurance non-approval notifications. This happened a second time and when you confront them with the inappropriateness of this, the Dr blamed me and had the audacity to call me unprofessional. I am a patient. I am paying out of pocket. I asked for all the cost details UP FRONT so there were no surprises. This Dr office put me through this me 2x. In the middle of treatment, approached me with a bill! In addition, they will lie (shocking) to cover their ass, for example, accusing me of seeing another dentist for the same tooth which is untrue, I only saw my regular dentist for my annual cleaning, and they lied telling me that they submitted the procedures to my insurance before the treatment and THEY DID NOT. I called the insurance company asap and they said nothing came in. After the Dr yelling at me to leave the office they stop me and ask me to continue the treatment, now asking for $2000 out of pocket. WTF? When complained to Cosmetic Dentistry Grants, they will not help you. I went to my regular dentist (nonholistic) and the office explained the scam going on here. In the next couple days I was able to get a hold of the insurance company who said that they absolutely DO cover my daughters dental work. They also charged the insurance company for work they did not do. I was deceived into opening the line of credit which I am still having difficulty removing from my credit report after many disputes. Do not recommend. I just had the most bizarre dental appointment of my life. I had my appointment booked as a new patient for a cleaning for over 3 weeks. Arrived early, filled out a lot of paperwork, then waited. 30 minutes after my appointment time, they called me back to a cubicle. I had the most UNCOMFORTABLE set of x-rays taken EVER. X-rays aren't usually comfortable, they're mostly just annoying, but these were actually painful. The contraptions I had jammed under my tongue and had to bite down on repeatedly were absurd. A doctor then came in to look at the x-rays and "recommend treatment." She said I needed FOUR "deep cleanings" because the cleanings are separated by quadrant of the mouth. The admin informed me these were not fully covered by insurance and would in total have cost me over $200. I thought "fine" because I was already there, but then the admin said, "I don't think the doctor will have time for that today, can you come back next week?" What?? I made this appointment specifically for a cleaning. The doctor also said I needed ELEVEN FILLINGS. I have never had a cavity or needed fillings in my entire life and now suddenly I need ELEVEN fillings?? The admin then showed me that my insurance doesn't cover these recommended fillings and I would need to pay out of pocket over $4,000 for these treatments. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning and will go elsewhere for a second opinion on these alleged issues with my teeth. UPDATE: I checked my insurance policy and a) cleanings are completely covered by my insurance, and b) the fillings they said I needed are also mostly covered by my insurance, so now I'm even more unclear as to why they projected a completely out of pocket cost of over $4K. read more

I visited Dr. Satvat today for a major cavity work. I was told by several other Dentists to prepare myself for a root canal and there is no other way to save the tooth. The cavity was deeply rooted and at a short distance to the nerve. Let me say this first before going in to details that Dr. Satvat told me otherwise and assured me she will do everything she can to prevent me from having to get a root canal done. Dr. Satvat made me feel super comfortable and she walked me through the whole procedure and checked on me every 2-3 minutes to make sure I'm okay and have no pain while she was working on my tooth and was super gentle. She is a true definition of a competent Dentist. Dr. Satvat I can't thank you enough for everything that you have done for me. The doctor then ground my tooth down but did NOT put a temporary crown on, leaving my ground tooth exposed and very sensitive to cold. They also promised a cleaning which they were too distracted and busy to perform. Upon exiting to pay, the receptionist now tries to charge me 970.00. Telling me the 490 was a mistake, for different insurance. Madness. I refused to pay these crooks and told them I'd have someone else make my crown. They are now trying to make me pay the 970.00 even though I Made it clear immediately and in writing that I didn't want them to make the crown. They call themselves holistic. Right. They are two bit crooks. Do not use this practice! The dentist I found after had to clean up the shoddy work they did and was surprised to see no temporary crown put on as well. IT IS MY PUBLIC DUTY TO WARN YOU ALL NOT TO GO TO BRIGHTLEAF DENTAL FOR ORAL HEALTHCARE SERVICES!!!!!! Seriously, don't do it!!!!! THIS PLACE DESERVES A NEGATIVE STAR RATING!!!! Here is my experience was this pitiful excuse of a "dental practice" : Up until this year, I had not seen a dentist in over five years. My primary goal of treatment was to get my teeth cleaned up and fixed in preparation for aligner treatment. I began treatment with Brightleaf Dental in May 2022. Their team began the actual work in July 2022. They recommended deep cleaning treatment and two crowns (about $4,000 of work in total after insurance). The cleanings and two crowns were completed by mid-August 2022. AND THEN THINGS WENT DRASTICALLY DOWNHILL. On Saturday, 9/24/2022, one of the crowns fell out--a mere 5 weeks after it had been placed on my tooth!!!!! On Monday, 9/26/2022, I called to request an urgent appointment and they were able to fit me in on Tuesday, 9/27/2022. When I arrived for my appointment, Sonia (the receptionist) informed me the dentist who did my crowns is no longer at the practice (Dr. Nazila Satvat)---very suspicious!!! They had me see a new dentist who refused to put the crown back on (Dr. Sarah Larbi). Dr. Larbi opted to remove the tooth and do a bone graft with the intent to fill the gap in my mouth with an implant at a later date. When I arrived for my appointment on 10/11/2022 to get my stitches removed, Dr. Larbi informed me I am not a candidate for an implant and suggested we close the gap in my mouth via aligner treatment!!!! In other words, she made the decision to remove my tooth without being certain an implant could be placed because it would bring in more money for the practice than simply reattaching my crown. To top that off, I ended up acquiring an infection on my tongue which was very painful and impacted my speech for several days!!!! When I reasonably requested a refund for the crown that fell off after FIVE WEEKS, they completely gaslighted me!!!!! Sonia alleged that CareCredit (who I used to finance my treatment) would likely not approve a refund, "because the procedure had already been done." I contacted CareCredit to confirm the criteria for the crown refund and they unfortunately told me the office needed to release the funds back onto my card. Of course this hasn't happened yet!!!! Surprise!!!! Regarding the same issue, Dr. Larbi informed me a refund was uncalled for as, "sometimes in medicine, even though it's frustrating, the body doesn't react how we think it will." When I inquired about having the cost of the bone graft covered due to it being a corrective procedure for the faulty crown, Sonia stated that I had to pay the $730 so Dr. Larbi will get paid!!!! It's not a hair salon, it's a dental practice!!!! As a result of their negligence, I am being held financially accountable for SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS EXTRA for the following items: the crown that fell off ($1075), unusable aligner impressions ($350), the bone graft ($730), AND all of the other work that needs to be done to fix the gap in my mouth (at least $3000). This was the strangest dental visit of my life. I cannot recommend this office at all. I came in for a filling removal and replacement and the dentist and her assistant both told me I needed a deep cleaning (even though I had just had my teeth cleaned and also take very good daily care of them to begin with) and then was told I had to have a crown put in as they couldn't simply replace the filling. The price was going to be through the roof and they tried to have me do both procedures that day. I declined and instead went to my dentist who told me he could replace that filling and that I in no way, shape, or form needed a crown put on. In fact, he said it would be irresponsible for him to suggest that I needed one as it could do more damage to my tooth than simply replacing the filling as I had requested. He also pointed out that I did NOT need a deep cleaning and my teeth looked great. I had the filling replaced six months ago for about a tenth of the price and of course, it's doing great. I got my wisdom tooth taken out which took like two hours and when I first arrived they said that it would be an easy process and I would be relaxed. Instead I had the most traumatizing experience of my life. Even though I went through a dental grant program where they pay for half your work,I had insurance. It was my fault for not checking to see that my insurance like covers 80 percent. I went to another dentist who by the way took my other wisdom tooth out in literally under five minutes and I had no pain, there was no prodding and pulling and changing instruments in my mouth and neither did the dentist tell me that my anxiety was making them feel stressed. Yes that is what Dr. Satvat said to me. She said that my anxiety was making her feel stressed and that I needed to calm down. Not only did it take her two hours to take out one wisdom tooth, but she also tried to get out the other one and could not after she sent a long time pulling on that one. I should have said something and not just sat there and let her do all this. And they checked my insurance and you thing they would have told me that my responsibility was only $70.00 (because that is all I paid this current dentist to take out my other wisdom tooth in less than (5 minutes). Yes 5 minutes!!!! Oh, did I also mention that the office forgot to call in the antibiotics??? I asked them before I left to call in my prescription because I could not talk or move my mouth after that horrible ordeal. Which I didn't heal until three weeks later. She said she couldn't understand why I had pain on the side that she did not extract... well it was because you were pulling trying to see which side you could extract. I paid $ 300 plus dollars to be in pain for almost a month. When my insurance covered it. I wish they would have been honest and told me about the 20% that I only had to pay for my wisdom tooth removal. I am so glad that I found a specialist who was honest and removed my wisdom tooth in less than (5 ) minutes and he made me feel comfortable and did say that I was making his stressed because of my anxiety. I would not recommend this office and I would not recommend the dental grant program either if you already have insurance. You want someone who is compassionate and honest. If they had of told me, you know what you don't need to use the dental grant program, you have great insurance, and I would have appreciated that honesty. It wasn't like I was getting major work done. Like I said I should have been more proactive and asked questions on the difference. I overpaid for my wisdom tooth and then suffered in excruciating pain afterwards. However, God blessed me with meeting another honest dentist who removed my wisdom tooth in (5) minutes and only had to pay my 20% copay from my insurance. When I wanted to switch to a holistic dentist, I chose Dr. Brightleaf. I initially went in for a regular cleaning, but had a hunch my previous dentist was merely mediocre in his assessment of my dental health. I was right. Two of my very old amalgam fillings were decaying and my gums were very inflamed, on the brink of gum disease. Dr. Brightleaf plotted out a home care program for me to deal with my gums -- success! Once they were healthier, another cavity revealed itself. I wanted to put it off, just to save money, but it started bugging me and I scooted right in and had it fixed. Yes, dental work is expensive in the short term. But the long-term costs of going to a mediocre practitioner and not catching problems in their early stages is exponential. Reading some of the other reviews... Yeah, the exam rooms could be more private. Fair enough. Perhaps Dr. Brightleaf comes off a bit brusk on first blush, but she softened over the course of my visits and explained anything I asked her to. I have written reviews about Dr. Brightleaf's office before and I have found yet another thing to mention. I have observed that hygienists tend to come and go in dental offices for a lot of valid reasons not reflecting on the office or the hygienist. Because of this, over the years, I have experienced the services of many hygienists. The ones I have encountered in Dr. Brightleaf's office have consistently been excellent. Having said that, I was pretty much blown away with the level of excellence I received at my appointment yesterday. The hygienist, Theresa, was pleasant and friendly, which, to me, is part of having a relaxed appointment. However, more than that, I learned a great deal that I had not heard before about taking care of my teeth. The breadth and depth of Theresa's information had me feeling I was in the hands of someone who really knew what she was doing, and knew how to address my issues of extreme root exposure. On top of that, Theresa also provided a very good balance of information and encouragement, so when I walked out of the appointment, I was feeling positive about being able to keep my teeth for a long time. While this is the type of experience I have come to expect from Dr. Brightleaf's staff, I felt Theresa was outstanding and a particularly good fit in Dr. Brightleaf's office. And before I conclude, I want to add that Dr. Brightleaf's front office staff, Ruth and Amanda, always contribute to my visit being pleasant, even fun.
