I had first visited this office two years ago and was seen by Dr. Weiss.  The entire process, from exam to fitting of my new glasses was flawless.  Times have changed drastically. It started with my new exam, but a different doctor.  The exam, itself, seemed alright.  When my new glasses came in a week later, things went downhill quickly.  I was handed them, asked to look around and then dismissed.  As the afternoon went on, I struggled to focus.  I also discovered several scratches on both lenses.  I called the next day to request to be re-examined, along with having the lenses replaced.  The doctor admitted to bumping up my prescription because of my elevated astigmatism.  A completely new setup was ordered. I was called two weeks later and, again, handed the glasses, asked to look around and dismissed.  I didn't take the time to look at the lenses carefully.  When I got home and went to clean them correctly, I noticed the left lense looked as though it had been cleaned with sand paper.  I've owned my previous pair for two years and they have not a scratch on them. I took them back in, with an attitude.  They said they would address the issue promptly.  Two weeks later, I'm told they are back.  I asked them to inspect the lenses before I wasted time coming back in.  Three hours later, I get a call to inform me that the lab applied the earlier prescription.  I was told I would receive some form of reimbursement.  It never happened. It took another three weeks to get them back, and they were wrapped in foam.  The office assistant informed me that the lab supervisor inspected and wrapped them personally.  As she was the only person in sight, I was handed a set of ill-fitting glasses that drove me crazy. Costco was amazing with the little time it took to fit and adjust them. I cannot recommend Main Street Optometry at all.  As so many reviews have stated, the level of quality and customer service has gone downhilll dramatically.  Warranty withstanding, I will not be returning. read more

As of right now I'm giving this a 1 star review. I prefer to give it 0 stars. My husband went there a couple of years ago and liked it. So we both went last week. First off we weren't told the Dr Weiss wasn't going to be the Dr. We should have been notified and given the option of the other Dr, after all this is a medical visit. This is Covid and I saw the tech Sara in the room behind the reception area with her mask pulled down. I should have left right then and there. When it came to my turn, I asked her to keep it pulled up tight. The eye exam was uneventful the Dr seemed very disinterested. The optician was fine though. But picking up the glasses was horrible. The receptionist handed them to us. We had to ask for them to be fitted. We both said the glasses are wrong. The receptionist said try it but my husbands RX is so wrong he can't see well from one eye and the lenses are size of hideous coke bottles. They are remaking them. As for me every thing is fuzzy. The receptionist said try it. Well today I'm dizzy I can't wear them, I've tried. I've worn glasses for 51 years this is ridiculous. I have no faith or even want to go back to this place but I have to. I'd rather 100% my money back. I've called my insurance company. OBTW they slip in the return policy into the the paperwork after you pay without saying what the return policy is. read more

Making an appointment as a new patient was a breeze, and not having to wait long at the office was great, however, there is no communication within the staff- long story short I tried getting my prescription corrected 3 separate times and still am unable to see clearly after paying $300+ on my glasses! (After insurance) I personally feel this office is a scam, please consider going somewhere else so you do not waste your time, money and energy like I did. read more

This practice was great with Dr. Weiss seeing patients but she no longer is the one who does eye checks. Myself and my two sons go in probably bi-yearly and have checks. This was the second time taking my children in. This most recent visit with Dr. Bergmark was unpleasant. She doesn't make eye contact when speaking to patients, she clicks on the computer with her back to you while you speak or does other things and it's clear she isn't listening. She very much made us feel rushed like she just wanted us over and done with. Both my children remarked that she doesn't give enough time for the patient to adjust between the lens flickering in the test and I fully agree. She will ask "one or two" and will interrupt and say "one or two or are they equal?" Before you can even respond she almost answers for you...we all had to repeatedly say "can you do it again?" My thoughts were heavily concerned during exam that our prescriptions would be incorrect due her speediness. She just doesn't listen...that's the honest way we all three felt and my kids are 12 & 13. Sure enough, when our glasses came in myself and one of my sons knew within seconds something wasn't right. We expressed this and were told we needed to go home and wear the glasses anyway. We were told the Dr. wouldn't allow us to come back for two weeks despite almost instant vertigo feelings. After two weeks we still complained, the glasses made us nauseated and gave us headaches. So we saw Dr. Bergmark again where she repeatedly didn't listen during exam and told us "I'm sure of the prescription but I'll do it again!" She would flick through the test lenses rapidly and then tell us both "yep, just like I already had written...there's no difference!" Yet when we left she DID change the prescriptions for my son and I both. She heavily sells the transitional (progressive) lenses and we felt pressured into them. Ultimately, we wanted it removed though she argued against it and made us feel it was a wrong choice. In the end our prescriptions were changed and new lenses ordered. The receptionist told us this would be "at no cost to you" but it's a lie, they removed the transitional lenses I paid extra for and they kept that fee as payment for correcting my lenses! It's not free, they decrease options you've paid for and keep the money to offset their mistakes. Read the return policy carefully! I was not sent home with any written information on this but was told I was and they quickly emailed me the return policy. They don't tell you or show you it up front! If you hate these glasses you won't get your money back, only a small percentage! When I wanted to just take my faulty glasses and go elsewhere, I was suddenly told "sorry, you can't...the courier already took them." I'd left the office just twenty minutes prior, very odd. I was backed into a corner with no choice but to hope the 2nd try was correct. Today we picked up the corrected lenses and they are suddenly good, phew! Read other reviews on "bumping" prescriptions because I think this was the issue! Others claim the Dr. bumped the prescription strength up beyond what you need and it makes sense for our issues, the fix was a lower strength...the correct one. I spent $1,500.00 for three pairs of glasses and it was nearly two months of hassle, return trips and uncomfortable exams by Dr. Bergmark. We took our corrected lenses today and our prescriptions and won't ever return. The women who size your glasses up front and help you pick them are pleasant and friendly. COVID protocol is being followed. Unfortunately, since Dr. Weiss doesn't do exams and due to the return policy and very expensive in store selection we will never go back to this practice. read more

This was a great experience here. I didn't wait long at all. I got several tests done. I had two extra tests done that were only about $30. Dr. Ciuffreda (?) did the final few tests and gave me all the results I needed to know right then in PLAIN ENGLISH. It was really nice to actually understand what she was saying. She was willing to answer all my questions and explain things in a way I could understand. Basically, she could have given me a light prescription but said my eyes were great and unless they bothered me I didn't need glasses. This was impressive as she could have easily sold me glasses and went the upsell route. I would definitely come back here and let my friends know. read more

I have been a client at this same office for 33 years and have always loved it until Dr. Weiss took over. She is extremely rude and seems a bothered by my questions or problems. My wife and I have been coming to see Dr. Weiss for three years now. She is without a doubt one of the best doctors I have known in a long time. She doesn't make patients feel rushed. She takes time to explain things and put patients at ease. Granted, an eye doctor is probably the lesser of the anxiety doctors out there, but Dr. Weiss definitely keeps patients relaxed. Another thing I like about her is that when the office gets busy, she steps in and works the reception desk. The first time we came in to see her the phone was ringing and the receptionist was in the back getting some paperwork and Dr. Weiss came to the front and answered the office phone. The last time we were there the receptionist was checking in another patient. We could have waited but Dr. Weiss stepped forward and charged our credit card for the visit and set up the follow-up appointment. I have a lot of respect for a doctor that steps in when needed to do the admin work. Sure, she didn't have to but she doesn't like to keep patients waiting unnecessarily and as long as the other patient was just checking in, she figured she would just take care of our checkout so we didn't have to wait. It seems strange to review an optometrist, but I figure I might as well give my feedback to help make other people's decisions more informed. I don't get my eyes checked regularly (I don't wear glasses/contacts), but eye exams are covered by my insurance and I was recently having eye strain issues at work, so I made an appointment. My exam was fairly uneventful (my eyes are in great health), but I did feel like it was a very thorough exam. They took pictures of my retinas, puffed air into my eye, etc. However, the best part of the exam was when I explained about my eye strain at work (I stare at a computer all day) and Dr. Weiss recommended these cool yellow tinted computer glasses. When I tried them on in front of a computer I saw and felt the difference immediately! I've been wearing them for over a year now and they have made a huge difference. (They are called Gunnar Optiks, btw). Overall, my experience was a positive one and I won't hesitate to make my next appointment here. read more

Not only is Dr. Weiss the most intelligent optometrist I've ever been to - she's also the most personable! Like any good eye doctor should be, she is such a pleasure to talk to that I feel very comfortable sharing any concerns or asking any questions. Dr. Weiss makes it a point to remember details of my optical health and personal history, which I appreciate. Her office is well-organized and well-staffed. In particular, an employee named Ari was very patient and helpful with me as I picked out some possible new frames. I have been a patient of Dr. Weiss. I asked if she's still part of this business, they said yes, but comes in only once in a while. I needed prescription glasses filled. Done. They seem to like progressive as they do push it. I've had it before, and I am not a fan of dizziness. I stick with lined bifocals. I got my glasses, started using it, and something is wrong. Line of left bifocal is off, a little too high and it's difficult to focus while working. I returned my glasses, Nov. 30 to be exact. They said give it 5 days..I called almost 2 wks; and I was told it'll be ready, give it time, holidays, repair etc. Frustrating. As of this writing, it is still not ready for pick up. They have to repair it. Nov 30, wasn't that enough time? I told the receptionist it is so difficult to work using old eyeglasses. She understands, but what can she do. Holidays are here and everyone is busy, but one lens to fix, I think it should have been done by now. I never had problems when Dr. Weiss was here. Every time I go to their office, I just see new faces constantly. Not happy and frustrated. I just want my corrected eyeglasses. read more

My insurance assigned me to Dr. Weiss and I'm happy they did. Her staff are incredibly funny and helpful. They throw clearance parties and I just so happen to walk in to pick up my contacts and I was blown away at the goodie selections they had. There's a family vibe in the office, it's pretty neat. Dr. Weiss is a character. She's super laid back but understands what going on and gives you all your options (even when you don't ask...lol). They have state of the art equipment and they take the time to explain what everything is and they, of course, let you know what they're going to do with your eyes. If you need a moment, they make sure to give you all the time you need. I'm giving Dr. Weiss and her staff 5 stars because they know what's up and they super laid back. read more

It seems like a good place to go to. Everyone was friendly at first. Their website advertises late appointments but they do not really have them available until a couple months from now. If you have insurance, you will still have to pay extra to get a contacts prescription, besides your lenses prescription. They also take a while to send you that prescription and schedule any appointments after that. I wish they had more available doctors to help patients sooner or at least refund your money when you are going to see another eye doctor because they are able to see you sooner at lower price. read more

The staff at Main Street Optometry is awesome. They're all super friendly and they make the eye exam and glasses buying process so easy!! I love that they let you make payment arrangements if you can't afford to pay everything all at once. We had the worst experience here for vision therapy and for initial eye exams for my children. During the initial visit Dr. Weiss was impatient and condescending but I thought she must have been having an off day. The vision therapist was a bit flighty but I had high hopes, then left the practice leaving us with Dr. Weiss. Again, I hoped that our experience would improve and was let down further when she literally exclaimed mid therapy session "I'm sorry but you're driving me crazy" and then laughed at my child's inability to get the right answer during the therapy exam. My stepdaughter sees Dawn for vision therapy. She was tested by SDUSD at our request, and qualified for developmental vision therapy. Helping my seven year old stepdaughter to correct some of the developmental issues she has with her vision is going to help her with her reading, writing and coordination. It is absolutely essential that she have this therapy, so we are grateful to be receiving it. She sees Dawn, who is a lovely, friendly lady and mom of 4 --- so she is GREAT with kids. My stepdaughter has behavioral issues, so often times she is difficult to work with. Dawn uses a reward system, and is very acute to the issues my step daughter has to navigate in her world. She has been very good with her. So far we have been thrilled with the results. It is possible to see her progression through the nightly homework that we have committed to providing during the months she is receiving the therapy. We highly recommend Dawn for vision therapy. It will make the world of difference to your child - and yet so many people are unaware of its importance. read more

I just have to make a review due to the lack of the staff's knowledge of eyeglasses. My first time there I had to come back 3 times to have my glasses adjusted and on the 3rd time, the staff melted my arm. There was no reorder for a new frame mentioned. I left and a few days later call my eye doctor and he had Ashley contact me. Ashley ordered two new frames for me to change out the arms which were different lengths. Then I found out she did not work there. I am still living with damaged frame arms which still do not fit right. I would not recommend this office due to the staff and the lack of expertise and professionalism. I asked Dr. Lisa Weiss for a refund but still have not heard back, I asked to have the arms mailed to me so I can take them else. They do not seem to want to repair the damage done. I went to this office for the first time a few weeks ago to get an eye exam to update my RX for my contacts. I figured this office only had one review, but it was a good one so I thought I would give Dr. Weiss a try. I showed up for my appointment, the office had plenty of parking right out front, and right across from the El Cajon Court House, I mean right across the street. There was no battle for parking so that was a plus. The office was nice and cool, AC working great! The receptionist was nice and welcoming. I was asked to remove my contacts in the bathroom and to go with the assistant so she could test my eyes. Of course the battery of tests, the eye air puff thing, color tests etc... the technician was real thorough and I was impressed by her professionalism. She then told me about the Optiscan machine/test that is like the dilation test, but you don't have to get your eyes dilated. So I opted for the test, to have the health of my eye checked, this test is an extra 39 dollars. No problem, the technician, I think her name was Natalie was very clear and non pressuring to me in taking the test. I appreciated that. I was taken into a back room where I then met Dr. Weiss, she was friendly and did her job but she did not seem to listen to me. She asked me the same question three times over the time of my visit and it was clear that she was not really listening to what I had to say. I had given her my answer three times and it was like it went in one ear and out the other.... .Oh well..... she checked my eyes and that is what I paid her to do..... the bedside manor... well....next time I think Ill opt for an Optometrist that actually listens to my responses when they ask me questions. I went here once and will just stick to going to my old family optometry office. The eye doctor herself was fine-informative, no problems. You do not have much of a selection of frames here and the ones in my price range with left me with very limited choices. I thought since this place was in East County that prices would be less than in San Diego but San Diego was actually cheaper. The girl up front kept trying to upsell me which was annoying and just made me feel uncomfortable. Won't return. read more

My husband has been going to Dr. Weiss for several years now. He likes her very much. Our insurance covers frames one year and lenses the next plus an exam a year.I had not needed to go but decided that the drug store reading glasses might be an indication that I needed an eye exam. . Parking, welcoming, and exam were excellent.... very friendly people. They were having a frame trunk sale. Supposedly, nicer frames at a savings. I will be totally honest here and say the last pair of glasses I bought was 20 some years ago. I guess $700 for a pair of prescription sunglasses and my regular glasses is a deal in somebody's world. I could have asked for less expensive and next time I will. There was no hype to buy "expensive." The person helping me was darling. I had no clue what I would look "good" in and she did. However, letting me know what each frame cost, might have made my visit less traumatic when I had to tell my husband what I had charged on our Visa. So, like my husband, next time I will say..."the least expensive frames please." read more

I was really impressed with their punctuality and top line equipment. Staff was very friendly especially with my 3 year old son who was there with me. Once I was checking out frames and ordering I was a little surprised of pricing. I didn't wanna spend to much time looking around and asking prices bc I had my son with me so I really just picked the first ones I saw but even with insurance I paid 287 to get polycarb glare resist and trans lenses. Including 45 co-pay which my husband was under the impression we didn't have one with VSP. This is the first time I've really had to come out of pocket so I wasn't sure what to expect. read more

This place is an absolute SCAM and a joke. We had to complain twice about scratched lenses, were accused of scratching them ourselves when we received them like that, and then were ridiculed by the woman behind desk because she "couldn't see the scratch." They schedule appointments without your consent, charge you for services that you didn't receive. Go to Santee Family, they don't over charge you. read more

Definitely won't be going back. Dr.Weiss was wonderful but they couldn't get my prescription right. I gave it 4 shots and a second opinion and they still couldn't deliver. Great service! I just brought my son here to be evaluated for Vision Therapy for the school district. Lisa and her team were wonderful in making sure that my son and I were completely comfortable with the testing and evaluation that they performed. He's normally very wary of strangers and being touched but they were awesome in being understanding and patient with him until he was settled. I will be back for our other vision needs. read more
