Very nice experience from Debbie at the front desk to Tania, who gave me the most thorough eye exam I have had. This company runs a lovely business. Great assortment of glasses and they were both helpful in my choosing the perfect pair. Not inexpensive but with my insurance, Alignment, it was acceptable. I recommend this company highly. I can't comment on Spektacles for their eye exams as I still go somewhere else...but I am considering making the change to Spektacles just based on my initial experience shopping there! I specifically went to Spektacles a few months ago because they are one of the few stores that carries Masunaga glasses (a japanese company that fabricates all their glasses from raw materials entirely within their factory). Well, the Masunaga glasses didn't fit my flat face too well, but overall, Spektacles carries a top notch collection of glasses and I was really pleased with their selection. They have the best brands which are curated very stylishly and tastefully.... not gaudy crap like my current eyecare provider--who keep trying to push those weird, artsy Elton John style glasses on me, which I absolutely hate! Seriously, if you are in the market for some frames, check this store out. **note: the frames that appealed to me were a bit hipsterish and I thought the selection was great, but I did overhear an older customer say the glasses were too nerdy looking for him! read more

I had a great experience at Spektacles. The shop is beautiful and the selection is great. I visited the store specifically to see their selection of Moscot eyewear, but they carry a wide variety of brands. Elizabeth was incredible in helping me to select frames, I really valued her honesty in choosing a frame that was suited for my face. Dr. Kim is extremely personable and knowledgable. Deciding on frames can be a daunting decision, but they both made it very fun and straightforward. Everything from selecting frames to dealing with insurance was a breeze. Buyer beware: they do not accept returns or exchanges under any circumstances. We've all purchased a dress, shoes, or....glasses we thought we loved and when we get them home, have buyers remorse. It is always nice to buy from company's who honor a 30-60-90 day return policy, to safeguard us when this occasionally happens. Not in this case. They chose to lose a long term patient/client by refusing to budge on their "policy". Now I own a pair of $485 glasses I don't like. Very disappointing. A short term loss for me, a long term loss for them. read more

I love Spektacles (outside my phone auto-correcting the name constantly as I type this review). I have been looking for a good eye doctor for a while in San Diego and finally found one. Stoked. The doctors and staff and Spektacles are flat out awesome. Everyone is personable, smart and organized. I can't recall the last time I had an appointment that went more smoothly. From scheduling, friendly reminder call, to showing up and just walking in to my appointment. Awesome. On top of the eye exam experience, Spektacles has to have one of the best selections of contemporary glasses around. I am used to a store that is 70% styles that are way out of my age group, whereas here most of the glasses on the shelf I would actually wear. I easily found 5 pairs I loved, the hard part was picking one. They also carry a bunch of sunglasses I like and ultimately ended up purchasing. Finally the logistics of having an appointment, getting a prescription, filling a prescription and getting glasses. Again, awesome. Insurance went smooth, getting the glasses went smooth. I got exactly what I wanted. Exactly. I love that. At the end of the day, Spektacles is one of those businesses that has everything dialed in and the result is an awesome customer experience. I plan on getting my glasses here for a long time. read more

The location of this office is great! It's in the Seaside market plaza and next to my favorite acai bowl place. I saw Dr. Kim for my check up and exam. I love the selection of frames for glasses and the office design is unique. This time I got fitted for contacts and a new pair of glasses. Everyone there was helpful. Spektacles is a top notch Optometry and eye wear office. I have been seeing Dr. K for three years now. Everyone who i have referred has been impressed with her knowledge and experience. This review is soley based on customer service I received over the telephone here. I called to make an appointment after looking up providers who apparently take Blue View Insurance. They were listed as an approved provider, so I called to make an appointment. The woman on the phone was very rude with me and kept asking for my social security number over and over, which made me feel uncomfortable. After about 10 minutes she informed me they do not take my insurance and she could not explain why they were listed as an approved provider. That did not irritate me nearly as much though when I accidentally had called them the next day in error (instead of calling the other place I had found that took my insurance). The woman was so rude with me on the phone and snarled at me saying, "no doctors are in today, so I don't know why you think you'd have an appointment". Anyway, glad I dodged that bullet. Looked like a cute place, but unfortunately their customer service needs an upgrade. read more

My husband and I both had our eyes examined at Spektacles in Cardiff.. We are first time customers at this facility. First impression - very friendly staff. At first visit very friendly. I had a trouble seeing with the lens when I first received them and when I called I received resistance but I did receive an apology for the misunderstanding. When I went back to the facility the doctor reexamined me and they ordered replacement lens and that was a much better improvement, so I was pleased that they honored their word. I was very uncomfortable with their response, my feedback to them would be to be more accepting to honest feedback. Overtime, I am not pleased with my eyeglasses as I'm not able to drive at night and over a period of a few months, there is a film that is very distracting to see through. I decided to get another exam only 6 months later with another optometrist who was able to correct my vision accurately. I would never use this company again. I originally ranked this company a 1-star but gave them a higher rating after they replaced my lenses.... however, having another prescription only 6 months later that has corrected my vision accurately, I have revised my assessment to reflect a more accurate view of my experience. Too pricey for not receiving the value. read more

These guys are fabulous. Friendly, professional staff. No guilt trips (even though I was WAY overdue for new contacts and declined to have my eyes dilated). They take Saturday appointments and insurance. Dr. Kaczanowski is great - she explained everything well and really knows her stuff. They have all the newer equipment - no more puffs of air! Even though they're fairly new there were no organizational issues - I had an appointment and didn't have to wait at all, they had my contacts in stock... in short they had none of the problems I'm used to dealing with at LensCrafters. Love this place! The staff and doctors are super nice and they helped me find my first pair of Oliver Peoples glasses that I am obsessed with! What brought me in was their awesome selection of glasses and sunglasses. I think we all have our difficulties finding the right frame for your face and here I had a couple choices that I was interested in, which is usually pretty rare for me. Came here to check out their sunglasses. Walked up to the place, and a lady saw me, walked up to the door, and closed and locked it right as I reached for the door handle. She then seemed to feel bad about it, so she opened the door and said, "are you picking up?" I said no, I just came to look at your sunglasses. She then said, "sorry, we're all leaving early today," and she closed and locked the door. It was 1pm. Their website said they were open until 5pm, as did the sign in their window. She was unapologetic and rude.... clearly uninterested in my business. I just broke my sunglasses and am ready to purchase a replacement pair, and I am willing to spend up to $300. (I had my last pair for over ten years.) I also would have been happy to write them a positive review, here and on Google. Instead, here's my negative review. Your employees' rudeness lost a potential sale and resulted in these negative reviews. Nice! read more

I work with beach cities lock and key and believed that I had a piece of metal in my eye from cutting a key. Michelle Kim seems like a very nice and thorough optometrist. The staff scheduled me quick and looked in my eyes and let me know nothing was in it. And checked for a couple other things and said my eyes were ok. Years ago I did have a small sliver of metal in my eye that had to be removed. Fair price too Recommend them. read more

I was shopping with my family and walked by Spektacles. I walked in and made an appointment with the friendly receptionist. I saw Dr. Kim, who was very kind and skilled (I have a stigmatism) in doing my eye exam. They have a nice selection of frames and I got a new and modern pair of glasses (overdue from my old and out of fashion glasses). They took my insurance and my wife bought a pair of sunglasses. I went in to see Dr. Kim for a contact lens fitting and exam. I called first to verify that they took my insurance and find out what the co-pay would be. I was told that it would be about $20 - $30. When I sat down for my exam, the doctor told me that the contact lens exam and fitting would be $250. I was surprised that the co-pay was that high and asked the doctor about it - she said it was because it was my first contact lens prescription. I paid the fee but when I got home I called my insurance company. They said the co-payment for that service was supposed to be $60 not $250. They looked at my account and said that she had not even added the contact exam to my claim. She had only added the eye exam. The eye exam co-pay was a separate $20 charge. My insurance company contacted the office and spoke to Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim told them that she thought she was only going to receive $60 for the exam and that was why she charged me more than my co-pay! I asked the insurance company if as an in-network provider she was contracted with them to charge me whatever the co-payment was on the covered services and they said yes. The insurance company worked with her office to make sure that I got a refund for the amount that I was charged beyond my co-pay but I will never use this eye doctor again. Her behavior was unethical and unprofessional. I will be contacting the California Optometry Board about this incident. read more

One of the best business/customer service trips I have had in years. I met with Dr. Kim who was friendly, thorough and professional. Location is convenient right next to Seaside Market. This was my first eye exam in years, but from what I could tell the equipment seemed very current if not brand new (I was told they just opened in December 2011). As far as price range I am going to say moderate, only because my insurance covered the lot of it, and as far as the glasses prices I saw, they looked on par to what I would imagine is industry standard. Oh, not to forget, the lady who works in the front was also extremely helpful and professional. I really had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone. read more

Even though I was on a referral through my wife (who had an incredible experience - and continues to), I still went through my mental checklist and happily scored each area with a perfect 5/5 stars! From being greeted by Elizabeth and having her show me a variety of different frames, her product knowledge, her very customer-centric demeanor through the excellent eye exam from Tania to the final step with fitting my new (and beautiful) Moscot glasses, the entire experience was solid and I would never hesitate to recommend this business to others. 5 stars!! why? 1) STAFF - they are friendly and knowledgeable. it was easy to book an appointment, they answered my insurance related questions and everything was processed smoothly 2) EXAM - I was walked through every test, felt comfortable and even learned things about my eyes that I didn't know after years of eye exams. the Dr. is personable, relatable and very knowledgable 3) GLASSES/FRAMES - they have the best selection of glasses here, especially if you're looking for high quality frames. the staff helped me decide which glasses to purchase, which i loved! Bottom line, they are really helpful - they know what looks good for your face shape and they can sense what you like/dislike and eliminate styles within minutes. Picking out glasses can be tough, and you want to make a good decision! Spektacles makes it easy, and at the end of the day you'll walk out with a great exam and a pair of glasses you'll love.
