The other salon had bleached my entire hair (picture 1), even though I had made it clear that I wanted shadow roots (darker roots). I had booked another appointment after this one at that same salon, to fix the dye job, but the stylist cancelled on me the morning of the appointment. Luckily, I called Hair Cuttery right after they opened, and they were not only able to make an appointment for the consultation and for the fixing of it that same day, but they were also able to add on a hair cut. They also were able to get me in an hour before the time of the consultation, which was great, as I had wanted my hair fixed asap. The end result was exactly what I wanted, and I am incredibly happy with it (pictures 2 and 4). Please excuse the random bump in my hair and the frizz; I had taken the photos right after the gym. The stylists had also mentioned that after a few days/washes, my hair will get lighter. Services: Blowouts, Haircut, Balayage Stylist: Aracely did my hair, and Natalie helped a lot as well. They did an excellent job of matching the shadow roots to my natural hair color, which is what I had wanted.

He has a deposit charge which you can Zelle or cashap conveniently to him prior to your visit. The deposit will be taken off your total charge for the braids for the appointment. When I finally arrived for my appointment Sunday was able to get me braided up right away! His braiding technique was so wonderful! It was soft and smooth and worked efficiently. He had me in and very quickly with my crochet style! The salon he has is really nice and open concept and the vibe was great. Very comfortable and down to earth. His mother greeted my daughter and I when we first arrived with a beautiful smile and welcome which really made us feel at home and like family. His mom laid out my daughter's individual braids spectacularly! They were so beautiful and neat! Their pricing is reasonable and the quality of their work is superb! If you want great looking braids that look good and won't take too long to style, please do yourself a favor and visit Sunday and his mom! My crochet braids feel like I don't even have braids in my hair so light and fluffy most importantly no headache or anything from tight braiding. A few weeks ago, I came across the salon name "Se Mo Hair" while browsing Yelp for a new AA stylist based in the NW burbs. I found a thread with a list of salons meeting this criteria. Several are no longer in business & I had a "been there, done there" experience with two of them then I read an unfamiliar name (Se' Mo Hair) so I googled it & came across stellar reviews though surprisingly none on Yelp. I then called & spoke to Sheri who was so polite, professional & welcoming over the phone & even more so in person. During my first appointment, Sheri gave it to me straight (my hair is damaged & very dry). I knew about the dry part but was surprised to hear about the damaged part. I mean, I knew I had **some** breakage that I was trying to grow out. Mind you, I've had a steady stylist for a few years now & the dryness was a consistent concern while the breakage was just mentioned in July. Ugh! Sheri suggested a wonderful new regimen for my hair & while I was ready to get a relaxer touch-up, Sheri's knowledge, expertise & suggestions convinced me to go another way. She knows her stuff & on so many different levels of hair care. I consider myself well versed in the area of skin & hair maintenance but she dispelled myths that I believed to be true. I'm 35 & this is the longest I've ever gone sans relaxer (4 months) & I don't plan on returning. I couldn't believe how bouncy, shiny, smooth & straight Sheri was able to get my hair without using chemicals, intense heat or overly saturated products. My hair has never looked so healthy, bouncy & shiny - I'm amazed by my results & it's only been a few weeks. Suffering from PCOS, I lost a lot of hair in 07 & it's been a love/hate relationship with my hair every since but I am starting to LOVE my hair again & can't wait to see what else Sheri has in store for me. I showed the owner pictures and videos of the exact style I wanted--Bora Bora braids with human hair, full and neat. We discussed the size, fullness, and agreed on the price. She told me she would be out of town but referred me to her other location in Bolingbrook and reassured me that the stylist there would take good care of me. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. The braider did not speak English and seemed completely unaware of the style I had already arranged with the owner. Even after showing her the pictures and the messages between me and the owner, she still gave me Boho braids instead of Bora Bora braids. Instead of making the style full with more strands left out on each braid, she made the leave-out thick and uneven. It was not the look I wanted. I even texted the owner while in the chair to say I wasn't happy. The next day I received a text asking me to come back to have it redone, but I couldn't--I was flying out. For the entire trip my hair shed badly, leaving hair everywhere, even in my food. By the time I returned home, the braids looked so poor that I took them down in less than a month, despite spending about $500 total for the human hair and the style. I've never paid that much for a braid style only to remove it so quickly. When I reached out afterward, I asked if she would redo my hair with a discount on a future style (which would have been about $250). I asked for a $50 discount, but she refused and countered with $20-$30. Considering how much I spent on the first style and how short of a time I was able to keep the braids in, I didn't feel that was sufficient. On top of that, when I had the braids taken down at her shop, I was charged another $100. As a small business owner myself, I rarely leave negative reviews, but I left this shop feeling like I wasn't valued as a customer and that it was more about the money than the service. The owner came highly recommended, but the stylist she referred me to was not experienced in the style I requested, and I ended up disappointed during a trip I had looked forward to for so many months. Sadly, I cannot recommend MOUNA African Braids.
