While on a road trip, my dog had an engorged tick, so I visited this vet seeking preventive options. I felt my concerns were dismissed by Dr. Murphy and the vet didn't recommend preventive antibiotics. In my opinion, a preventive course would have been safer. I felt my knowledge was disregarded, and I left disappointed. However, when I opted to leave, the vet did not charge me, which I appreciated. The office staff was kind, but overall, this visit did not meet my dogs needs. read more

Lisner is the absolute best. They are incredible human beings who genuinely love animals and treat each patient like their own. I have been taking both of my dogs here since we got them as pups Great Dane mix (7yo) and Bernese (1yr 3mo) and I don't know what we would do without them. When we lost our cocker spaniel a little over a year ago Kristan and Dr. S went above and beyond to make sure she was as comfortable as possible and it meant the world to us. Our Bernese (Muffin) had a health scare at 8mo and I know for certain that without the help of everyone at Lisner, we would have lost her, they went above and beyond in ways I never expected a veterinary office to and I'll forever be grateful, special shout out to Dr. Graye and once again their incredible manager Kristan, I'll never find the words to tell them just how thankful I am to this day. My dogs aren't the biggest fan of "going to the doctor" because of the blood draws etc. but knowing they'll get to see Ericka, Kristan, Dr. G and the rest of the staff at Lisner makes it so much less scary for them, especially Muffin. Even with everything my little Berner has been through she gets so excited to see her people at Lisner. PET OWNER BEWARE!!! Since Dr. Lisner retired, the new practice is a nightmare. The female vet has no people skills and the young male, Dr. Stankiewicz is not very knowledgeable. My 13-year-old cat started having trouble walking, her right eye wasn't blinking, she was losing weight, she was scratching her right ear, and started looking mangy. She weighed almost 8 pounds 2 years ago and now weighs 4.5. I told him I was worried about kidney failure. He said she had hyperthyroidism and ordered medication. $300 plus and nothing about the eye or ears. Said they couldn't get any urine from her but charged for a urinalysis ($75) anyway. Three days later, she goes back again and he says she has an ear infection. I asked him what her ears looked like 3 days earlier and he said he didn't look at her ears. Another $300 plus medication for her ear and some eye sauve in case she scratched her eye. I asked for copies of her medical records. The office manager called wanting to know why I wanted medical records and I said I had no confidence in Dr. Stankiewicz. She did refund the urinalysis. She said it was just a miscommunication. Then she went back for a recheck on the thyroid and still is wobbly, can't blink and not grooming herself. He says he thinks it's an inner ear infection. I read what he wrote in the medical record. It is a template meaning it is prewritten so each note is identical. According to him, she is bright, alert, and responsive; good body condition. Hum, a cat who has lost half her body weight - really? Eyes, clear; pupils normal; nothing about the fact that her right eye isn't blinking. Ears; no redness, no exudate yet she has an "inner ear infection". Then her oral cavity: teeth are free from excessive tartar; gums are pink. Best of all her "gait was normal", another really? According to the medical record, she's in perfect condition. Since this didn't feel right, I called two reputable vet clinics and was able to get in at Union Lake Veterinary Clinic. The vet, Dr. B., asked a lot of questions and noted that the right side of her face was swollen. She took some X-rays and came back in and showed me that my lovely Eliza had an inoperable tumor. She showed me the tumor on the x-ray and said I could go down the radiation therapy route but the outcome would be the same. She said the tumor was causing her eye not to blink, her mouth not to open more than a quarter inch, the blockage in her ear and her wobbly gait. He's probably fine with a cat or dog who only needs a wellness checkup and their shots. I don't know because I will never go back. I would never recommend going there to anyone. read more

My family had been coming to Lisner Animal Hospital since we moved to Michigan. I even still come here after I moved to Rochester Hills. While it can be a bit tricky to get in to and out of the parking lot depending on the time of day, amount of traffic and road construction, it is worth making the turn in. My kitty comes in once a year for her checkup and all of the vets on staff treat my questions with respect along with treating her with the care that she needs. The prices are fairly decent even when you have to put a kitty to sleep. My previous kitty had to be put to sleep and the staff at Lisner Animal Hospital let me stay with him as long as necessary. They even cleaned up the cat carrier without any charges. My current kitty has/had anxiety and the staff had no problems dealing with my questions. They also had no issues renewing the anxiety mediation as long as she needed it. I will continue to being my kitty and any future kitties here. read more

If I could give negative stars I would.... I have been to Lisner a couple times with my dogs I'm new to the area and honestly ... I should have trusted my initial thoughts on how gross and dirty the lobby was not to trust this place but anyway thats on me. I just got my poor dog home after 2 days of horror. I took my lil chihuahua in 2 days ago. I saw Dr Lisner himself. My dog had a Hard bulge on the bottom of her jaw. He said " in my 38 yrs of being a vet this does not look like an infection it's probably cancer" to which I asked are you sure he said basically that because it was hard it was probably not an infection it was probably some thing worse. He suggested I get x-rays and do a biopsy on her jaw. The next day I was feeling very uncomfortable about the whole situation and asked them if there was a blood test that they could do to find out if there was cancer in her blood. They told me NO And there is no such thing as testing dogs blood for cancer. So I felt stuck Between a rock and a hard place because what else am I supposed to do? I'm supposed to trust my vet apparently not. I set the procedure up For 2 days later ( today) Mind you I felt very uncomfortable because I just didn't trust the fact that they Said that they could not test her blood for cancer And I know that it's possible to do that. Anyway, they did the procedure. So she's out of surgery and they said she's doing well and they are sending off a tooth to be biopsies but.... I love how his story has changed.... First the " doctor" says it's cancer then the story changes to well its just an infection and just a few teeth that need to be extracted and now will be $300 more then we quoted you SHAME ON YOU Dr Lisner !!!!!! Seriously?!???? I am grateful it seems she'll be fine but what crack pot DR tells a patient their dog has cancer then says oh wait no it probably isn't WTF !!!! .. So I went in to pick up my dog and wanted to talk to the doctor, he of course had already gone home..... Which I highly doubt. Some nurse came out who is probably the one that did the whole procedure herself and tried to explain herself out of what this imbecile doctor had said. I was furious and had many many questions and could not believe how he had mis diagnosed and told me my dog basically had cancer with no bedside manners. Then the "manager" Who looks like she can't even manage her own weight let alone a veterinary clinic comes in and is yelling at me full blast defending the doctor and blaming me for not having the dogs teeth cleaned... Mind you I had been there prior for check ups on my dog and they had never told me that they had any problems with their teeth otherwise I would've had them cleaned. I was completely appalled this place is run by a bunch of clowns do not go there I wouldn't trust them with a dead animal. My little girl was treated like dollars not a dog. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON THEM !!! I was a basket case for two days thinking that my dog who has been my rock for 10 years had cancer. Dr. Lisner killed my cat. We brought Jylian in for a routine dental cleaning and he returned her to us in a body bag. I hope I can adequately describe the pain, confusion and anger our family felt at the sudden, unnecessary loss of our beloved Tonkinese. We moved to Michigan from out of state. Our two cats mean the world to us and due to proximity and reviews we chose Dr. Lisner to be their new vet. Being protective, when we brought Jylian in for her dental procedure, we made one request. That Dr. Lisner consult with our previous out of state vet regarding dosage of anesthesia because Jylian was small for her 4 years of age. We were assured and told the phone call had been made and everything was a go. I can still hear my husband running through the house looking for me, sobbing that Jylian was dead. Dr. Lisner told my husband about Jylian as he was driving; it's a wonder he made it home safely. I was numb. It was hard to believe this little light, so loving, shoulder riding, always purring wonder of a cat would never look at me with love again. I still can't believe it. We picked up my Mom and drove to Dr. Lisner's office to get Jylian. He said, "Yes, I killed your cat and you can hate me for it if you like, but I can't bring her back." Apparently, Jylian died shortly after being put under the anesthesia cocktail administered by Dr. Lisner. He tried to tell us she may have had an unknown heart condition that led to anesthesia complications, despite the physical exam his office administered to Jylian a few days prior to her dental procedure. Dr. Lisner also told us he talked with Jylian's previous vet. He handed Jylian to us, her small body still warm, zipped in a body bag. My last view of the office was of the receptionist smiling at me. We decided to take our girl to the Diagnostic Center for Population & Animal Health (DCPAH) at Michigan State University for an autopsy. We drove the two hours to Lansing, taking turns cradling Jylian. Even my Mom, who is pretty stoic, had tears running down her face. The hardest part was handing over my Jylian to the pathologist. We were inconsolable. It took roughly 2 months for us to get all the information back. Jylian did not have a heart condition; tests revealed she was healthy. MSU officials, who were the kindest, most caring and accessible we could ask for considering the circumstances, concluded Jylian must have died from a drug reaction from one of the drugs in the anesthesia cocktail Dr. Lisner administered. Further, when we questioned our previous vet, he told us he never received a call from Dr. Lisner or anyone else in his office regarding dosage or type of anesthesia previously used on Jylian. Our former vet was not a proponent of cocktails because he deemed them unpredictable. He never used them on Jylian. In the months since Jylian's death, our older cat has grieved. He initially didn't eat, stayed very close to us and we could hear him crying loudly at night. He really missed her. To make matters worse, we keep getting postcards from Dr. Lisner's office reminding us to bring our cats in for a checkup. I would never trust him again. We have learned from this tragedy. Through pain, we now know what to ask when one of our companions faces anesthesia. We no longer have blind faith in their vets and in this case, unwarranted trust when it comes to their care. We ask a lot more questions now to our very patient new vet, but it still won't bring back our Jylian. May she rest in peace. read more

I have taken my cats and dogs to Dr. Lisner for more than ten years. In all of those years (and all of those pets--two dogs and four cats, to be exact)--my family and I have had nothing but wonderful experiences and exceptional care for our "kids." Several years ago, I relocated to a new city for my job. I took my cat to three veterinarians in my new area, but none even came close to matching the care we received from Dr. Lisner. For the duration of my time away, I drove my cat back to see Dr. Lisner for her annual visit. It might seem crazy, but it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. A weird noise my kitty was making (deemed hairballs by another vet) was actually lung cancer. Dr. Lisner immediately recognized her symptom as a cough, X-rayed and diagnosed her that same day, and started her on a treatment plan. Today, my cat is thriving. I cannot thank Dr. Lisner and his staff enough. My pets and I will be patients for life. read more

There are plenty of good vets, but Dr. Lisner is simply the best. He has seen my pets for over ten years and his treatment, care, and diagnosing skills are unmatched. I moved out of the area a few years ago and had to find a new vet for my beloved cat, Binky. I took her to see this new vet when, at the age of sixteen, she began making odd snorting sounds. I was told it was allergies and was sent on my way. The sounds continued, and her behavior started to change. After another exam, they still weren't able to find a cause. Finally, I made a trip back to the Detroit area and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Lisner. He listened carefully to my account of Binky's symptoms, asked several really good questions, and did an exam. He suspected the real cause of her symptoms almost immediately: lung cancer. Dr. Lisner performed some bloodwork and x-rays. I was a bundle of nerves, but his staff was kind and reassuring. Indeed, it turned out that she had a large tumor in her lung. The noises she had been making were coughs, which he identified right away. That was ten months ago, and I'm delighted to say that--even at her advanced age--Binky is thriving! The medication Dr. Lisner prescribed has kept her symptoms largely at bay, she's eating well, and she's still happy and cuddly. Dr. Lisner diagnosed my cat when others couldn't. But it's more than this one experience. Time after time, pet after pet, year after year, he provides safe, professional, dependable care. He will be my vet for life. read more

Nice staff and vet - no complaints about the people. Office was also immaculately clean. Dr. Lisner seemed like a decent person and veterinarian. Yesterday I took my Dachshund for her yearly shots. Entire appt was $232. They gave her three shots in one day! Including one her previous owner had never given her. She got a horrible reaction to Lepto within 20 minutes but since we were the last appt of the day, we couldn't turn around and come back. Had to take her to the emergency vet in Novi and pay $190 for Benadryl injections, steroids, and Prednisone to take home. They said if we would've waited any longer she wouldn't have been able to breathe and would have died. I called Lisner's office this morning to follow up on what happened and they seemed very apologetic and upset by what happened. But they said they prefer to do 1-2 vaccines at a time, especially on small dogs, unless the owner instructs otherwise. But I did NOT give a reason as to why she should get all her shots the same day. I am very upset by this and decided Daisy will not be back nor will my other dog ever be in the care of this vet clinic. I will be taking them elsewhere in the area. read more

Dr. Lisner has been our vet since 1998, he has covered everything from general check ups to surgery for our dogs. Lisner is patient, kind, compassionate, extremely knowledgeable, and an excellent surgeon. I would trust him with my own life. I have referred several friends to him over the years. His prices may be a little higher; however it's well worth the price. Dr. Lisner would NEVER do any test or procedure that is unnecessary. He is conservative in his approach, but very thorough. His facility uses the latest practices and technologies. I will never take my pets to Lisner Animal Hospital again.and told several people about this. Dr. Anderson was extremely rude to me. I brought in my older cat that was weezing and coughing up mucus for a month. He is better today since he has been on antibiotics but I wanted to make sure he didn't have something else like pneumonia. Dr. Anderson was short-tempered, rude and when I asked her questions about inhalers or something else about what I should do for the cat, her response was "I DONT KNOW" or I told you or " What do you want me to tell you?" as if I was making everything up. She was very strange and shouldn't be working in a vet clinic. I have never been treated so poorly by a vet clinic in my life. I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. I was told to go to Dr Lisner but he was not available. She charged me $62 for nothing. I should have gone back to my former vet Orchard Lake Animal Hospital who are very nice and compassionate. I called Dr. Lisner to discuss what happened and my dissatisfaction with Dr. Anderson and he never returned my call. Unbelievable and so unprofessional. All they want is your money I guess. No regard for animal and customers. Never again. I work for a large rescue group and I warned everyone about this clinic. My cat is still very sick and I will have to go to another vet and pay for another visit. But I will go back to Orchard Lake Animal Hospital who treats you with respect. read more

Dr. Lisner has been my Persian cat's vet since 2009. He is a professional; competent, kind and patient. He basically saved my cat's life by recommending low residue diet when she was loosing tons of weight and constantly had diarrhea due to food allergies. We have been to his office for vaccines, UTI's, dental procedure and upper respiratory infections. No matter how busy he is, he makes time for an emergency visit. He listens carefully, examines and educates me about what are his recommendations . His expertise is not just book knowledge, it is from real experience. I don't know if he knows it, but Dr. Lisner saved my cat's life! About 6 years ago I took my cat in for a regular checkup and Dr. Lisner detected that she had a slight cough (which I hadn't noticed). He was concerned and did an X-ray of her chest and quickly determined that her lungs were filling with fluid. Turns out she has Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). He administered I.V. Lasix and explained what we needed to do for her future care. I always said that I would not be a person who gives medication to a pet, but Dr. Lisner assured me that the meds would cost about 50 cents per day. Fast forward to 2012 and I can't believe our cat is still with us at 17 years old. We have since moved away, and when we took our cat to a new vet in our new hometown and showed him the X-ray Dr. Lisner took, the vet commented "yep, that was one sick kitty!" But Dr. Lisner saved her and we didn't even know she was sick! (He explained that cats are good at hiding these things.) read more
