Don't support our nimrod president support places like this. The owner gave me a bit of history...been here since the 30's and not much has probably changed. He said it's seen better days but the back to basics is what is so appealing to me. From the awesome neon sign to the down home feel. The owner made my breakfast and it was awesome (and cheap!). This is the dive to end all dives. Not some freshly erected joint trying to emulate the dive vibe, but the kind of place your great uncle would have gone to to suck down a cheap beer and place some bets on the afternoon games. Oh, I guarantee somebody used to run a sports book out of here back in the day. I don't know when Lisska Bar was in its prime, but I have a feeling it was always a blue collar bar where people drank hard and wobbled home. The eats are cheap. Two people, eggs, meat, potatoes and a bloody mary each came out to less than twenty bucks. It's good stuff. Nothing fancy. Sausage is a smoked polish link split and browned on the grill, ham is a nice thick slice, and bacon is, well, bacon. It's old school food. There's nothing gourmet about it. A cheese burger is exactly that. Ground beef fried on a flat top that has been around for a lifetime and then some, topped with a slice of american cheese. Add fries and you're still short of blowing that finski in your pocket. To say the place has seen better days is an understatement, but I did not that the stuff that matters is clean. My 4 star rating is based solely on rating this place as a dive bar and grill. This is the kind of place you need to visit at least once in your life. It's a rite of passage. read more

This place is just weird and I've only visited once around 5PM on a weekend with a friend. It's worth visiting once for the novelty factor. The interior is a pea green and looks unchanged for decades. It's cash only, none of the bar stools match, there's a menu with $2.00 meatloaf (but the grill area was pristine), the pool table was covered with a large cloth which had an old TV and various National Geographics. Best of all is an old photo of an East Columbus (the name of this neighborhood, which has seen better days) football team. There are no beers on tap (there is no tap) and you can also buy over-the-counter pills and lottery tickets. The big art deco sign alone was enough to pull me in. read more

This is truly like walking back in time. I like many reviewers have driven by this place tons of times. Just wondering what it was like in there. Well 1 week ago I did it. And since then I have been back 3 times. It seems to be mostly regulars by the second time I went in Mark the owner called me by name. I had a bacon cheese burger 2 Jim beams and cokes and a piece of cake and left paying less than $14 bucks. And it was a great burger. Not a gourmet burger but a great old fashion hamburger. Like when I was growing up. They make fresh soups everyday and a special. The carrot cake is wonderful! I can't wait to have something but a burger! A true no frills kind of place. The decor looks straight out of the 60s, and I found the bible stories on the tv a bit off putting. But the service was super friendly, and the beer was cheap. You can have any type of brew you want as long as it's domestic. I also ordered the potatoes off the grill. The potatoes were pretty good, and my $ 6.65 check was nice too. Come one, come all. If you're looking for a tasty bite at long-ago prices, stop at Lisska Bar & Grill. While breakfast is served all day (they close at 7:30 pm), we had lunch since it was already after 2 pm. We asked for cups of chili, but the waitress said she split a bowl between us because it's cheaper that way. Well, honestly, we both felt like we each had a whole bowl! It was flavorful and the onions and green peppers were left quite chunky. The ground beef was kept in larger bites, too. Served with a big basket of crackers, the perfect complement. The husband had the Polish sausage sandwich. It came with thinly sliced onion, dill pickle chips, and a bottle of horseradish in case you want it. The sausage was split lengthwise and grilled until color was added, then was served up on a hamburger bun. The hamburger was quite good. Nothing fancy here, just a tasty burger the way they used to be made back in the day. They did not have tomatoes because they only serve them in season. Hmmm, that's the way it should be, I guess. The onion was sliced into thin rings. I could have used twice as much, but there really was enough for most people. I declined the offer of pickles, not my thing. They carry both Coke and Pepsi, in cans - meaning no free refills. They give you a frosty glass of ice alongside the can, an added bonus. We did not hit up the dessert offerings since we were heading to Resch's Bakery following our visit. The booth behind us took both a slice of apple pie and a piece of carrot cake to go, commenting they never pass up dessert when they stop here, even if they're too full at the moment. If you are looking for a hip, happening, trendy joint, keep on going. If you're looking for an affordable place to fill your belly with good grub, Lisska's is your go to. Lisska's has been a huge supporter of the Saint Thomas Catholic church and the local community for as long as I can remember. The parish men's group meets there the 4th Wednesday of every month and they really cater to the group. Good lord. Like the other reviews suggest, this is OLD. Neighborhood is bad so lock your car good. Bathrooms aren't too great. One thing that really bothered me was no air conditioning in the summer time. The building might be so old they don't even haveit. read more

I love this place. A true neighborhood dive bar. It's been family owned since 1936 and like the area, it's seen better days. It's a beer and shot bar with a great comfort food menu. There are no beers on tap but their cans and bottles are some of the lowest prices you will find and they're served with a cold glass. I think they only have one shot over $2.75 (Ancient Age Bourbon for $3.50). The homemade soups and desserts are amazing. I haven't tried the burgers but every raves about them. I had a bowl of the best homemade vegetable soup, 2 cans of Schlitz (awesome) and a huge slice of homemade coconut cream pie for $9.54. Can't beat this place for an inexpensive meal. Everyone who works here is friendly and welcoming. Most of the patrons are regulars. I wish more people would go to places like this instead of fast food joints and chain restaurants. I've driven by this place countless times and finally made the commitment to stop in for a beer. I think I'm in love... A time-warp experience, to be sure, where Patty's warm demeanour, quick wit, and first-class service take you back to another era before computers and mobiles ruined interpersonal communication. The regulars slumped over the antique bar were funny and accepting, providing yet another element to a truly film-noir experience. Oh, the food? It's as if I walked into a dictionary definition of "greasy spoon", where the chow is low-priced, filling, tasty, and prepared for cowboys, truckers, farmers, test pilots, and Soldiers on leave. In other words, it ain't for tree-hugging, grass-eating, sandal wearers. A final word on the decor as, again, you are entering a time capsule: don't expect video games, high-def TV with cable access, top-shelf mixed drinks, circulating air condition, skinny blondes serving up over-priced libations, and stupid promotions--just enjoy a place where Elvis is still alive and serving up the perfect burger. read more
